Opis:
Provanna marshallisp. nov. is described from Early to Middle Miocene−age fossil hydrocarbon seep localities in the East Coast Basin, North Island, New Zealand, adding to 18 modern and three fossil species of the genus described. Modern species are well represented at hydrothermal vent sites as well as at hydrocarbon seeps and on other organic substrates in the deep sea, including sunken wood and whale falls. Described fossil Provanna species have been almost exclusively reported from hydrocarbon seep deposits, with a few reports of suspected fossil specimens of the genus from other chemosynthetic environments such as sunken wood and large vertebrate (whale and plesiosaurid) carcasses, and the oldest occurrences are dated to the Middle Cenomanian (early Late Cretaceous). The New Zealand fossil species is the most variable species of the genus described to date, and its shell microstructure is reported and found to be comparable to the fossil species Provanna antiqua and some modern species of the genus.

Opis:
Beach litter in Small Island should become a special attention issue in Indonesia. This study was carried out to provide a comprehensive dataset including calculating the quantity of beach macro-litter, determine types and concentration of debris present by materials categories, and examine the actual coast cleanliness using Clean Coast Index (CCI). Total of six beaches along the South and North of Ternate Island in September 2018 and March 2019. All surveys performed based on the guideline NOAA Marine Debris Program. All areas in sampling sites will covering used transect 100 m × 10 m as a sampling unit with two replication transects at every location. All sampled will categorize into seven groups including polymers/plastics, rubber, cloths/fabric, paper/cardboard, processed wood, metals, and glass. Overall, there are 3332 items of beach macro-litter found in all surveyed beaches. Polymers/plastics (2040 items, 61.2%) became the highest number of items, followed by glass (403 items, 12.1%), and metals (296 items, 8.9%). During the survey, the highest number of beach litter found on St.1 (1128 items) while the lowest discovered on St.3 (324 items). The abundance (items/m2) found on all beaches range from 0.04 items/m2 to 0.23 items/m2. Meanwhile, CCI on all beaches in very clean to clean category.

Opis:
The symbolism of axis mundi constitutes an integral part of cultural and religious systems across the world. Such symbolism appears clearly and precisely in all forms of religious life. As it is stressed by Eliade, many a time, axis mundi is an intersection of three varied ontological zones (the interior of the Earth, the surface of the Earth, and the Heaven) and creates a contact place of man with sacrum. The axis mundi symbolism, analysed here as a part of literary studies, is reflected also in two important novels by Julius Verne (Adventures of Captain Hatteras, 1864-65 ; An Arctic Mystery, 1897) dedicated to the polar regions. In both novels, such sites (the north-ern and southern poles) become a literary image of axis mundi, while the hypothesis finds its confirmation in the nature of psychological experiences of the heroes cast in the polar regions. The symbolic and religious study of such experiences leads to the conclusion that in both the analysed cases they may be understood as an experience of a contact with sacrum.

Opis:
We investigate for the first time the species composition and community structure of lobose thecamoebians (Arcellinida) inhabiting an unpopulated and pristine island from the southeastern Pacific. Results revealed low alpha diversity and a high proportion of cosmopolitan species. One genus, four species and two subspecies were identified for the first time for southwestern South America. Further, four morphotypes were not identifi ed to species level, and one could not be identifi ed to species or genera level. They are probably endemics of this poorly studied and remote zone. These results were consistent with the moderate endemicity hypothesis of microbial biogeography. We hypothesized that the low diversity of species recorded on the island is due to selective colonization-extinction dynamics, processes that determines the low species richness of insular macro-organisms. However, this hypothesis needs to be evaluated in the future. Statistical analysis showed that testate amoebae were distributed in two discrete communities in the island. The first consisted of organisms inhabiting habitats located within a forest and the second by organisms inhabiting habitats located outside the forest. The suggested primary factor differentiating these both communities was the availability of appropriate habitat for the different species of testate amoebae.
