Opis:
Model predictive control (MPC) algorithms brought increase of the control system performance in many applications thanks to relatively easily solving issues that are hard to solve without these algorithms. The paper is focused on investigating how to further improve the control system performance using a trajectory of parameters weighting predicted control errors in the performance function of the optimization problem. Different shapes of trajectories are proposed and their influence on control systems is tested. Additionally, experiments checking the influence of disturbances and of modeling uncertainty on control system performance are conducted. The case studies were done in control systems of three control plants: a linear non-minimumphase plant, a nonlinear polymerization reactor and a nonlinear thin film evaporator. Three types of MPC algorithms were used during research: linear DMC, nonlinear DMC with successive linearization (NDMC–SL), nonlinear DMC with nonlinear prediction and linearization (NDMC–NPL). Results of conducted experiments are presented in greater detail for the control system of the polymerization reactor, whereas for the other two control systems only the most interesting results are presented, for the sake of brevity. The experiments in the control system of the linear plant were done as preliminary experiments with the modified optimization problem. In the case of control system of the thin film evaporator the researched mechanisms were used in the control system of a MIMO plant showing possibilities of improving the control system performance.

Opis:
The paper presents a method of how the nonlinear boundary condition [1] may be applied in nonlinear problems of electromagnetic field theory. It is introduced for problems with nonlinear conductivity. An analytical procedure has been constructed, which seeks to reduce calculations related with the nonlinear region. In order to verify the proposed solutions, two problems have been formulated: one of linear and the other of cylindrical symmetry. These have been additionally solved by the authors’ modification of the perturbation method that has been described in previous papers [7, 8, 10]. The electromagnetic field distribution obtained thereby has served as a referential result since it can obtain very accurate solutions [10]. Relative errors of electric and magnetic field strength are introduced to verify the results.

Opis:
Price stability has been one of the key mandates that apex monetary authorities strive to achieve globally. While most developed economies have achieved single digit inflation rates, most developing economies, especially African countries still experience alarming double-digit inflation rates. This paper therefore examined the dynamics of inflation in sixteen African countries. We employed the fractional persistence framework with linear trend and non-linear specifications based on Chebyshev's polynomial in time. The results indicated nonlinear time trend in inflation for most of the countries. With the exception of Burkina Faso, which exhibited plausibility of naturally reverting to its mean level, the majority of the selected African countries would require stronger interventions to revert their observed inflationary levels to their mean levels.

In this paper we consider important classes of one dimensional environments, bending stiffness of which can be neglected. It is impossible to apply approximate analytical method of solution of mathematical models of dynamic processes. So justification of existence and uniqueness of solutions, carried out a qualitative their evaluation, based on numerical analysis are considering in this paper. Also the features of dynamic processes of some of examined class of systems are analyzed. Methods of qualitative study of oscillations for restricted and unrestricted bodies under the influence of the resistance forces, described in this paper are based on the general principles of the theory of nonlinear boundary value problems – Galerkin method and the method of monotonicity. Scientific novelty consists in generalization these methods of studying for nonlinear problems at new classes of oscillating systems, justification of solution correctness for specified mathematical models that have practical application in real engineering vibration systems.

Generalization of Linear Rosenstark Method of Feedback Amplifier Analysis to Nonlinear One This paper deals with an extension of the Rosenstark’s linear model of an amplifier to a nonlinear one for the purpose of performing nonlinear distortion analysis. Contrary to an approach using phasors, our method uses the Volterra series. Relying upon the linear model mentioned above, we define first a set of the so-called amplifier’s constitutive equations in an operator form. Then, we expand operators using the Volterra series truncated to the first three components. This leads to getting two representations in the time domain, called in-network and input-output type descriptions of an amplifier. Afterwards, both of these representations are transferred into the multi-frequency domains. Their usefulness in calculations of any nonlinear distortion measure as, for example, harmonic, intermodulation, and/or cross-modulation distortion is demonstrated. Moreover, we show that they allow a simple calculation of the so-called nonlinear transfer functions in any topology as, for example, of cascade and feedback structures and their combinations occurring in single-, two-, nd three-stage amplifiers. Examples of such calculations are given. Finally in this paper, we comment on usage of such notions as nonlinear signals, intermodulation nonlinearity, and on identification of transfer function poles and zeros lying on the frequency axis with related real-valued frequencies.

When an earthquake occurs, the structure will enter into a nonlinear stage; therefore, new approaches based on nonlinear analysis are needed to flourish with the purpose of more realistic investigations on seismic behavior and destruction mechanism of structures. According to the modern philosophy, “Performance-based Earthquake Engineering” is formed in which simple nonlinear static analyses are mostly used in order to determine the structure’s behavior in nonlinear stage. This method assumes that the structure response is only controlled by the main mode and the shape of this mode will remain the same, while it enters the nonlinear stage. Both of these assumptions are approximations, especially in high buildings, which have a long period. It seems that constant load pattern used in these methods cannot consider all of the effects properly. In this paper, an attempt was made to study the accuracy of these methods in comparison to nonlinear dynamic analysis, by considering various load patterns existing in FEMA, also load patterns proportional to higher modes in nonlinear static method, and employing an approximative method of MPA modal analysis, study the accuracy of these methods in comparison to nonlinear dynamic analysis. For this purpose, three steel frames of 4, 8, and 12-stories with steel shear wall have been studied.

The task of electroacoustic devices is a transmission of audio signals. The transmitted signal should be distorted as little as possible. Nonlinear distortions are the distortions depending on signal level. The types of nonlinear distortions as well as their measures are presented in the paper. The weakest device in an electroacoustic chain is a loudspeaker. It causes the greatest degradation of the signal. It is usually the most nonlinear part of the electroacoustic system. The nonlinearities in loudspeakers are described in details. Other types of nonlinear distortions as transient intermodulation in power amplifiers and distortions caused by the A/C sampling are also presented.

This report presents principal optical properties of semiconducting large-sized nanocrystalline (LSNC) material with thickness within 10-50 nm range. A quantitative parameter for description of the LSNC state is introduced. Influence of the surrounding polymer matrices on the properties of the LSNC is shown. Role of the surrounding polymer matrix background in the manifestation of material optoelectronic properties is studied. Superposition of long-range ordering with the localized nano-quantized effects is analyzed within a framework of different one-electron band energy approaches. Manifestation of the LSNC nonlinear optical (NLO) properties will be presented separately. It is clearly demonstrated that appropriate choice of LSNC geometry parameters together with proper modification of chemical composition could enhance the key NLO parameters.

Electrohysterography is a method for measuring of bioelectrical potentials generated by a contracting uterus. It is used for monitoring of uterine activities mainly during a pregnancy and for prediction of an upcoming pretermlabour. However, there is still unknown the best method of EHG analysis which gives clinically useful information about a uterine activity. To achieve this goal we propose to use information about nonlinear associations between EHG signals registered from an uterine fundus and an uterine cervix. The h² index was applied to identify these relationships. The obtained results reveal that there exists a nonlinear correlation between biopotentials generated from two parts of a pregnant uterus. Moreover, this correlation seems to be higher as a labour is upcoming. It suggests a possibility of using the h² index for prediction of an upcoming labour based on EHG signals.

The most interesting motion of the ship is rolling. This is because the rolling amplitudes are much bigger than amplitudes of other degrees of freedom and under resonance conditions, which can exceed 40º. In such a case, when the maximum of the righting arm curve is placed at relatively small angles, the roll equation reveals a strongly nonlinear character and bistability areas as well as an area of unstable solutions of the roll equation occurs. Together with the appearance of the above-mentioned areas, amplitude jumps are possible. In the study, the case of strongly nonlinear rolling is analysed. For the purpose of numerical simulations, the 1DOF mathematical model of rolling with damping dependent on amplitude and frequency is used. The article presents the roll spectrum including the bistability areas and the area of unstable solutions for one loading condition of the offshore support vessel. It is demonstrated that for strongly nonlinear rolling, rolling with two different amplitudes for the same value of excitation is possible. It is also shown that transitions (jumps) between these amplitudes are possible too. A few scenarios of jumps of the rolling amplitude within the region of unstable solutions of the rolling equation are presented. The presented rolling scenarios show that under some circumstances rolling can be observed as chaotic.
