The objective of this study is to examine the influenceof life-stories narrative intervention programs on the optimistic approach towards life of adolescents with learning disabilities (LD) and attention deficitdisorders (ADHD). Changes in the optimistic approach towards life of adolescents with LD and ADHD who took part in an intervention program were compared pre-and post-program and to ordinary high school graduates who did not participate in the program. The findingsindicate a significantimprovement in the level of optimism pre- and post- intervention program. In addition, higher levels of optimistic approach towards life in the general index and relating to graduates’ level of optimism in situations of uncertainties were reported among graduates with LD and ADHD, compared with regular high school graduates. No differences were found in other aspects of the questionnaires. Results call for further research on additional protective variables, and on the effectiveness of the intervention program in both special education and regular high schools.

The objective of the article is to present a group intervention program in the narrative approach with parents of adolescents who suffer from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). For this purpose, the article will review the characteristic difficulties of parents of adolescents who have ADHD, the principles of the narrative approach, and the contribution of the group in work in this approach. On this basis, the initial intervention program, which addresses unique components intended to answer the difficulties and content worlds of this population of parents, will be presented. This article will express the parents’ strengths and the difficulties that they face and the group processes that influenced the change in the perceptions and behaviors of parents of adolescents with ADHD. These contents were learned from the pilot group of the research study. Five parents, primarily mothers, of children aged twelve to fourteen who suffer from ADHD participated in the group. The article will address one of the significant difficulties that arose in the encounters with the parents, the behavior of the adolescent who has ADHD regarding the religious identity and behavior appropriate for the values upon which he was educated. The contribution of the research study lies in that it offers parents support and ways of coping with the stress and emotional load that accompanies their coping with the adolescent who has ADHD.

African family life in South Africa’s post-apartheid context is shaped by the socio-political history of the country. Despite various attempts to address the remnants of poverty, unequal distribution of resources and the lack of livelihood services still exist. African families from resource poor areas of townships in South Africa are still faced with poverty and deprivation. Black African women, often with minimum schooling, suffer the most from these scourges. This article aims to explore the everyday life narratives of precarity at various levels and the manner in which women from Mangaung Township in Bloemfontein cope with this. They talk about the fragile relationships within the family, about the gendered dynamics of the household, and about the importance of support networks.

The aim of this series of articles is to identify and characterize the main linguistic and structural features of medical case reports in the field of psychiatry and psychology. The series is divided into to two parts: theoretical and empirical. The main purpose of the first part is to present the theoretical background of the discourse of psychiatry and psychology, including the characteristics of case reports of these disciplines and instructions for authors for preparing this type of text, as well as the narrative approach, case conceptualization etc. The second part is an empirical one. The main research question is whether the case reports of psychiatry and psychology are typical representatives of the microgenre or whether they are different with respect to particular levels of the texts. The present authors focus on the structure of case reports and their rhetorical character – the way of presenting particular information and its linguistic representation. The psychiatric and psychological case reports will be compared with the case reports from clinical and surgical disciplines, for instance cardiology or otorhinolaryngology. The study presents both differences and similarities between the two types of case reports, which are illustrated with representative examples from the research material.

The research aimed to check if the construction of narrative identity by adolescents at risk of maladjustment contributes to their adaptive social functioning. It also aimed to identify factors related to identity on which the adjustment of adolescents at risk of social maladjustment depends. A natural experiment was conducted in Poland among youths from sociotherapy centres (n = 60, aged 18–20 years, 33 women and 27 men). A group of graduates at these centres (n = 31, aged 21–24 years, 17 women and 14 men) was included in the exploratory study and compared with the group of students in terms of maladjustment, ego-resiliency, and identity. The experiment shows that the construction of a narrative identity through a life story interview contributes to better social adaptation, which means a lower risk of maladjustment. The diffuse-avoidant identity style predisposes to maladjustment, whereas ego-resiliency is associated with a higher level of adjustment. Thus the narrative interview method can find application in the therapy of adolescents at risk of maladjustment.

Micro-enterprises and self-employed individuals have been hit particularly hard by the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, but few studies have tackled the issue. This paper is based on four in-depth case studies of self-employed people from different sectors who have been greatly affected by measures taken to control the pandemic. By capturing shifts in the perception of institutional and economic pressures, as well as precarity after the outbreak of COVID-19, we gained profound insight into crisis management among entrepreneurs working in niche or marginalized fields of business. We found parallels in their biographies and attitudes, but their perceptions of the COVID-19 pandemic differ. We observed paradoxes and hybrid logic, as well as different ways of coping with the crisis. Having a “plan B” helped in some cases, while all of them benefitted from the solidarity of networks and communities.

This is a review of Anthony Stavrianakis’ book Leaving. A Narrative of Assisted Suicide (University of California Press, 2019). Medically-assisted suicide still raises many issues and controversies of various types: ethical, legal, organizational and institutional. The situation varies greatly between countries, and depends on health care policies and socially recognised values. However, the overriding question is as follows: under what conditions should this form of death be allowed? Among the arguments that are well known, recognized and now tame, Stavrianakis’ research brings new light and perspective. The author goes deeper and searches for the real motives driving people to choose this manner of death. He sees the nuances and recounts the difficulties. In this article, I highlight aspects of Stavrianakis’ work that I find relevant and crucial for the issues considered.

Artykuł jest poświęcony refleksji nad twórczymi momentami organizacji przedsiębiorczej. Tekst ukazuje możliwości wykorzystania historiografii przedsiębiorczości jako uprawnionego programu badawczego i praktycznego, który pozwala na holistyczne poznanie procesów tworzenia nowych organizacji w ich naturalnym kontekście. W części teoretycznej przybliżamy ideę przedsiębiorczości jako twórczości, uzupełniając ją o rozważania na temat funkcji opowieści przedsiębiorczych w dociekaniu naukowym i praktyce przedsiębiorczości. Następnie przedstawiamy wyniki analiz historii wielkopolskich przedsiębiorców o początkach organizacji. Uzyskany w ten sposób kompleksowy obraz działań przedsiębiorczych, każe nam sformułować postulat o unikatowej i istotnej roli, jaką tego typu badania odgrywają zarówno w refleksji naukowej, jak i w twórczym działaniu przedsiębiorczym.
The text is dedicated to a reflection on creative moments of the entrepreneurial organization. It presents the practical and theoretical possibilities that a historiographic approach to organization theory can offer, enabling a holistic understanding of the creation of an enterprise in its natural context. In the theoretical part we approach the idea of entrepreneurship as creativity, supplementing it with a reflection on the function of entrepreneurial stories in science and practice of entrepreneurship.Then, we portray the results of an ethnographic study of local entrepreneurship in Wielkopolska, focusing on the creation narratives. Thus obtained a comprehensive picture of entrepreneurial activities, leads us to formulate the postulate of a unique and important role that this type of research plays both in the scientific reflection, as well as in creative entrepreneurial activity.

Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje wyniki badań z zakresu psychologii klinicznej zrealizowane z wykorzystaniem perspektywy oraz metodologii narracyjnej. Zdrowie psychiczne w ujęciu narracyjnym definiowane jest jako zdolność do tworzenia życiowej opowieści spełniającej określone kryteria formalne (Stemplewska-Żakowicz, Zalewski, 2010). Głównym celem badań było scharakteryzowanie – z perspektywy psychologii narracyjnej – autonarracji tworzonych przez osoby z diagnozą schizofrenii paranoidalnej oraz uchwycenie tzw. zdrowych/ adaptacyjnych wskaźników narracji autobiograficznych (beneficial life stories indicators). W badaniu wzięło udział 9 pacjentów z rozpoznaniem schizofrenii paranoidalnej w fazie remisji. Narracje autobiograficzne osób badanych pozyskane zostały w odpowiedzi na bodziec narracyjny: „Proszę o opowiedzenie mi historii swojego życia”, rozpoczynający wywiad na temat historii życia (The Life Story Interview) autorstwa Dana P. McAdamsa (1985, 2006). Rekonstrukcja strategii tworzenia opowieści o własnym życiu przez osoby badane pozwoliła określić stopień przystawalności narracji autobiograficznych osób chorych na schizofrenię do kryteriów sprzyjających zdrowiu narracji. Wyniki badań ujawniły także wewnętrzne zróżnicowanie historii życia pacjentów w obrębie całej grupy. Przytoczone w artykule kryteria oraz ich konceptualizacja w odniesieniu do opowieści o życiu konstruowanych przez pacjentów psychiatrycznych może stanowić podstawę teoretyczną dla różnicowania autonarracji charakterystycznych dla prawidłowego funkcjonowania jednostki. Wskaźniki te pełnią również potencjalnie rolę wskazówek dla klinicystów, psychiatrów oraz psychoterapeutów pracujących z pacjentami psychotycznymi. Ponadto identyfikacja zakłóceń bądź deficytów występujących na poziomie narracji autobiograficznych umożliwia wgląd w fenomenologię choroby z punktu widzenia osoby jej doświadczającej, co zaś wzbogaca psychologiczne strategie wyjaśniania zjawisk psychicznych zachodzących w osobach badanych o kategorię ich rozumienia.
This article presents the results of original research conducted for the purposes of a thesis in the field of clinical psychology and psychiatry using perspective and narrative methodology. Mental health in the narrative perspective is defined as the ability to create a life story that meets certain formal criteria (Stemplewska-Żakowicz, Zalewski, 2010). The main research question of the study concerned the differences between life stories of people with diagnosed schizophrenia and the stories of healthy people – in relation to the so-called ‘healthy/adaptive’ autobiographical narratives (beneficial life stories indicators). The study group included 9 patients with the diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia, patients of the Psychiatric-Rehabilitation Ward of Clinical Hospital in Krakow. Autobiographical narratives of the subjects were obtained in response to a narrative stimulus: “Please tell me the story of your life”, starting the interview about the life story (The Life Story Interview) by Dan P. McAdams (1985, 2006). The reconstruction of the strategy of creating a story about one’s own life by the subjects allowed to determine the degree to which the autobiographical narratives of people suffering from schizophrenia are compatible with the criteria that favour the health of the narrative. The results of the study also revealed the internal diversity of the patients’ life histories within the whole group. The criteria referred to in the article and their conceptualisation in relation to life stories constructed by psychiatric patients may constitute a theoretical basis for differentiating auto- narrations characteristic for proper functioning of an individual. These indicators also potentially serve as guidelines for clinicians, psychiatrists, and psychotherapists working with psychotic patients. Moreover, identification of disturbances or deficits occurring at the level of autobiographical narrations enables insight into the phenomenology of the disease from the perspective of the person experiencing it. This in turn enriches psychological strategies of explaining psychological phenomena that take place in the examined individuals with a category of their understanding.

Artykuł prezentuje możliwy sposób metodologicznego połączenia perspektyw biograficznych w strategii badawczej oraz wskazuje potencjał poznawczy tego połączenia. Jest zaproszeniem do refleksji nad dwoma odmiennymi spojrzeniami na świat polskich seniorów-imigrantów w Szwecji z perspektywy badacza oraz perspektywy fotografa. To próba połączenia świata nauki ze światem sztuki. Artykuł wskazuje na możliwość wykorzystania portretów/zdjęć badanych osób do pogłębienia badań biograficznych. W artykule zaprezentowana jest propozycja modelu biografii koherentnej jako rezultat połączenia biografii z narracji (usłyszana od badanych) z biografią z fotografii (stworzona przez odbiorców fotografii – „wyczytana” ze zdjęcia). Jest to pewnego rodzaju eksperyment badawczy, który nie jest procesem zakończonym. Analizowany materiał badawczy pochodzi z badań przeprowadzonych wśród polskich seniorów-imigrantów w Szwecji.
The aim of the article is to present the methodological possibility of combining the biographical perspectives in the research strategy and to show its cognitive results. It is an invitation to drawing a reflection on the two different views of the world of Polish senior immigrants’ in Sweden – the outlook of a researcher and a photographer. It is a trial of join the world of science with the world of art. The article presents the possibility of using the photos/portraits of researched people to deepen the research and to show the meaning of photography in biographical approach. The paper proposes a model of coherent biography as a result of combination of the biography of narration (heard from the narration) with biography of photo (life history of researched people “read”/created from the portraits by addressees of the portraits). The analyzed data came from research done among a group of Polish senior immigrants in Sweden.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie autorskiej koncepcji międzyprzedmiotowych programów kształcenia „SOFT CLIL”. Programy te wykorzystują myślenie narracyjne, podejście dialogowe oraz metody aktywizujące w odniesieniu do życia codziennego uczniów oraz ich implementacji przez nauczycieli anglistów na I oraz II etapie edukacyjnym w Polsce. W artykule zaprezentowano badania, w których wykorzystano dane z raportów nauczycieli, dotyczących wdrożenia programów nauczania „SOFT CLIL” w szkołach podstawowych. Zebrane dane pozwoliły wnioskować na temat praktyki nauczycielskiej związanej z wykorzystaniem owych materiałów dydaktycznych. Niniejszy artykuł pokazuje, iż programy „SOFT CLIL” stanowią ważne wsparcie w nauczaniu i uczeniu się języka angielskiego w szkołach podstawowych. Dzięki zastosowaniu omawianego podejścia w kształceniu, również w trakcie zajęć prowadzonych zdalnie, zaobserwowano większe zaangażowanie uczniów, co potwierdziły raporty zebrane od nauczycieli. Co istotne, wdrożenia, tychże programów kształcenia, miały istotny wpływ na (re)organizację pracy nauczycieli, zmieniając optykę patrzenia na sposób przygotowania się do zajęć oraz ich przeprowadzania.
The aim of this article is to present author's concept of cross-curricular "SOFT CLIL" curricula using narrative thinking, dialogic approach and activation methods in relation to students' everyday life and their implementation by English languege teachers at lower and upper primary education in Poland. The paper presents research using data from teachers' reports on the implementation of "SOFT CLIL" teaching programmes. The collected data made it possible to draw conclusions about the teaching practice related to the use of the above mentioned teaching materials. This article shows that "SOFT CLIL" programmes support the teaching and learning of English in the primary schools. Thanks to the application of this educational approach, a higher level of students' engagement has been observed also during remotely delivered classes, as confirmed in the reports collected from the teachers. What is important, the implementation of these educational programmes had a significant impact on the (re)organisation of teachers' work by changing theway they perceive how to prepare for and conduct classes, which led to a variety of reflections in the teachers' final reports.

Opis:
Based on the author’s existential narrative approach, this paper presents some seman - tic axes and individual ways of encoding existential experiences. The author proves that individuals take two narrative approaches to their life. They either focus their attention on themselves or on the events occurring in their life and their achievements. Different versions of biographical texts, which reflect the subject’s basic purposes, meanings, senses and values depend on the selected position and semantic encod - ing (the narrative actions code, hermeneutical code, code of culture, semantic code, symbolic code). In the first case, the subject’s personal life is described with the use of such concepts as ‘Myself as a narrative system’, ‘Myself as a life-creating system’, ‘Myself as a micro-cultural system’, ‘Myself as a semantic system’ and ‘Myself as a symbolic system’. In the second case, the following concepts are used: ‘My life as a chain of significant events’, ‘My life as an awareness of authenticity’, ‘My life as a self-presentation’, ‘My life as a self-personification’ or ‘My life as a creation of individual mythology’
W ramach podejścia do narracji egzystencjalnej w artykule opisane są osie semantyczne i indywidualne sposoby kodowania doświadczeń egzystencjalnych. Wykazano, że w sto - sunku do swojego życia człowiek może mieć dwie pozycje narracji: pierwsza skupia jego uwagę na sobie i swoim wewnętrznym „Ja”; druga – na wydarzeniach z drogi życiowej człowieka, jego celów życiowych itd. („Życie”). W zależności od pozycji zajmowanej przez człowieka kodowanie tekstu w opisach własnego życia ( kod działania, kod hermeneutyczny, kod kultury, kod semantyczny, kod symboliczny) może tworzyć różne wersje biografii, które odzwierciedlają cele, znaczenie i wartość osoby badanej. W pierwszej sytuacji rzeczywistość życia osoby opisuje się przez użycie pojęć „Ja jako system narracji”, „Ja jako kreatywność życia”, „Ja jako system mikrokultury”, „Ja jako system semantyczny” i „Ja jako system symboliczny”; w drugiej – za pomocą pojęć „Moje życie jako łańcuch wydarzeń”, „Moje życie jako stworzenie autentyczności”, „Moje życie jako prezentacja siebie”, „Moje życie jako stworzenie indywidualnej mitologii” itd.

The purpose of the article is to present party elites’ narratives about electoral defeat in order to identify characteristics of the narratives which may inhibit or facilitate party change. The opening sections explain theoretical approach and methodology adopted for the research. The next paragraphs reconstruct and compare narratives of four Polish political parties, which experienced electoral defeat in 2011 and 2015 parliamentary elections, and give a psychological explanation for their emergence. As a result, four narrative strategies were identified of which only one seems to have potential to facilitate party change. Its distinctive feature is internalization of blame, whereas the others reveal tendency to denial or personalize and externalize blame.
Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie narracji elit politycznych na temat porażki wyborczej w celu zidentyfikowania cech mogących sprzyjać zmianom w partii lub utrudniać je. We wstępnych częściach artykułu zaprezentowane zostały teoretyczne podstawy rozważań oraz przyjęta metodologia. W kolejnych częściach zrekonstruowano i porównano narracje czterech polskich partii politycznych, które doświadczyły porażki wyborczej w wyborach 2011 i 2015 roku, próbując wyjaśnić zaistnienie tychże narracji w kategoriach psychologicznych. W rezultacie zidentyfikowane zostają cztery strategie narracyjne, z których tylko jedna jawi się jako sprzyjająca zmianie w partii. Jej cechą wyróżniającą jest internalizacji winy, podczas gdy pozostałe ujawniają tendencje do zaprzeczenia winie bądź do personalizowania i eksternalizowania winy za porażkę.

This paper aims to recount a shared experience of some psychology students – an intellectual adventure of exploring one’s own approach towards human relations and nature on the way to becoming a psychotherapist. To become practitioners, the students need to choose a certain psychotherapeutic training based on one of the main psychotherapeutic theoretical approaches. The following are mentioned in this paper: psychoanalysis, cognitivebehavioral therapy, humanistic/existential and the postmodern narrative approach. Exploring the assumptions underlying different modalities and practices is also considered here to be an ethical challenge. It is reckoned that the choice of a specific psychotherapeutical practice bound to a theory shapes the identity of the therapist and the patients, forms the language and behaviour through which the future therapist will express his own Self and influence the Other. Referring to postmodern inspirations, the author speaks in favour of making an endless effort of recognizing the assumptions underlying different practices – as the only way for not taking a potentially violent and impervious attitude in the relationship between the therapist and the patient.
