The scientific aim of the paper is the characteristics of various types of nanoparticles, their physical and chemical parameters. In the article authors give examples of various nanoparticles used in reservoir engineering and EOR methods. The results of laboratory measurements of the impact of nanoparticles on the change of reservoir parameters and the increase of oil recovery of sandstones and carbonates are presented. In the article have been shown the possibilities of using nanotechnology, including the achievements of different authors. It presents a general literature review of modern research methodologies of nanoparticles in the global oil industry.

In this study, tin oxide (SnO₂) nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrothermal method in the presence of hydrazine and ammonia by adding surfactant for 12 h in a Teflon autoclave at 100°C reaction temperature. Tin(II) chloride hydrate as an inorganic precursor, hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), and tetrapropyl ammonium bromide (TPAB) as cationic, and sodium dodecyl sulfonate (SDS) as anionic surfactants were used. The results showed that the size and shape of nanoparticles depended on the surfactant types. The nanoparticles sizes between 17.5 and 19.7 nm were obtained by changing types of surfactants. Synthesized tin oxide nanoparticles were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.

Opis:
A technology for producing gold films on the surface of fabric materials has been developed, which provides for preliminary wetting of the fabric product with aqueous solutions of gold (III) chloride. In this case, a sorption layer of gold chloride is formed on the surface of fabric materials. Then, when drying these products under sunlight, physicochemical and photochemical processes occur, leading initially to the formation of monovalent gold chlorides, which, having semiconductor properties, provide the release of elemental gold. After washing of by-products on the surface of the material remains an ultra-thin film of gold, which has a sufficiently strong grip on the base. Since the proposed technology does not require special equipment it can be used to apply functional films of gold on various products of technical, household and medical purposes.

In the present study silver nanoparticles were obtained using the ability of chitosan to form chelate compounds with metal ions and taking advantage of its reducing properties. The reduction process was conducted at the temperature 60°C or applying γ radiation from 60Co cobalt source. A preliminary characteristic which allows us to realize the size of formed silver nanoparticles was made on the basis of the measurements of UV absorption and dynamic light dispersion.

Opis:
Obtaining of metallic nanoparticles by plasma-erosion electrical discharges in liquid mediums for biological application. The process of electrical discharge in the water of the plasma discharge channel was investigated and its diagnostics was performed. The specific features of the energy redistribution were shown, together with the physical model of the dispersed phase. The biological functionality of the metal nanoparticles and the prospects for their use in biotechnology were found.
Uzyskiwanie nanocząstek metali poprzez wyładowania elektryczne w zakresie erozji plazmy w środowisku wodnym w zastosowaniach biologicznych. Przeprowadzono badania wyładowań elektrycznych w środowisku wodnym w celu uzyskania nanocząstek metali. Określono specyficzne cechy redystrybucji energii oraz przedstawiono fizyczny model fazy rozproszonej. Określono funkcjonalność biologiczną nanocząsteczek metali oraz perspektywy ich wykorzystania w biotechnologii.

Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance (LSPR) mediated electromagnetic field enhancement play a vital role in enhancing the performance of bio-molecular sensors, photovoltaic cells and Raman spectroscopy (e.g., in SERS) etc., to name only a few. It is now well established that the field amplification factor (mode squared field) ~106 for spherical shaped plasmonic nanoparticle dimers is significantly higher than the amplification factor of a monomer which is ~103. In this work, a theoretical and semi-analytical approach based on multipole spectral expansion is used to investigate the electric field enhancement in the gap region of spherical nanoparticle dimers of Al, Rh, Ag, and Au. The dimer exhibit rich spectra compared to its isolated counterpart. For example, in contrast to a monomer, the dimer spectra consists of multiple resonant peaks which can be fine tuned by varying particle size and/or inter-particle separation. Moreover, the enhancement in dimer is several orders higher than that in monomers. Rich spectral features in dimer spectra arise from the interaction between particle plasmons of constituent NPs and their hybridization, which results in the splitting of plasmonic energy levels. We carry out, systematic investigation of these systems to quantify the effect of particle size, interparticle separation and metal type (Al, Ag, Au, Rh) on electric field enhancement.

A filter system is presented which allows the reduction of the concentration of ultrafine particles in vehicle cabins to very low levels. The original ventilation system is switched to the recirculation mode and all cabin intake air is supplied via a retro fitted filter system. Tests with a variety of different vehicles (from passenger cars to coaches) show the efficiency of the system. Number concentration of particles inside and outside a car, the nanoparticle filtration system, fllter-efficiency: transmission for the new filter and for the filter loaded to apressure drop of 2.9 mbar, setup of the filter with integrated prefilter for course particles and blower, prototype of the filter system, main filter, prefilter and blower are included the system operated by an external control box, containing the drive electronics for the blower and displays for filter pressure drop and time meter, filter pressure drop as function of operating time in a highly polluted road tunnel, a possible solution to mount the filter system, particle concentration inside and outside the car (passenger car), concentration drops to very low levels, particle concentration inside and outside a passenger car with the filter turned on, two nanocleaner filter systems mounted in a school bus, filter system for buses installed in the luggage compartment are presented in the paper.

Antibiotics are used for postsurgical wound healing purposes but unfortunately, resistance against them demands some alternatives for quick recovery. Sepsis of wounds is a challenge for medical as well as veterinary professionals. Nanoparticles have significant advantages in wound treatment and drug resistance reversal. This study was conducted to appreciate emerging alternates of antibiotics like zinc oxide nanoparticles and plant extracts in topical application. Zinc oxide is considered a good wound healer and its nanoparticles are easy to access. So, the efficacies of zinc oxide nanoparticles and sweet flag plant extract ointments were tested to compare modern and traditional therapeutics as sweet flag is considered a pure medicinal plant. Rabbits were selected for this study due to the healing properties of their skin. Wounds were inflicted on the thoracolumbar region and treated for 29 days post-surgically daily with normal saline and the ointment of zinc oxide nanoparticles and sweet flag extract ointment, prepared in a hydrophilic solvent. Wound shrinkage was observed daily and histopathological analysis was made and results were compared. Zinc oxide nanoparticles ointment showed the most satisfactory results for every parameter included in the study. No side effects of its topical application were observed. Healing was normal without any complications. The preparations of zinc oxide nanoparticles may help in the era of antibiotic resistance as topical drugs in the future.

HNIW (2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazaisowurtzitane) is a family member of high-energy density cage nitramines which have so many versatile applications. In this paper, HNIW nanoparticles were prepared by the oil in water microemulsion route. The effects of various experimental parameters on this reaction were investigated using the Taguchi method. The effects of different variables: organic phase, water/organic phase (W1/W2), organic phase/ propanol (W3/W4) and HNIW weight percent, on the particle size of the HNIW were investigated at three distinct levels. Optimal conditions for obtaining HNIW nanoparticles were determined. Performing the process under the optimal conditions proposed by the Taguchi method leads to the production of HNIW nanoparticles with an average size of about 80 nm. The HNIW nanoparticles were characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD).

Nanotechnology is an emerging field of science widely exploited in agriculture in recent years. In this investigation, application of nanotechnology in agriculture via application of some nano-particles (nano-iron and nano-silicon) have been investigated in seed priming of dragonhead. Seeds were subjected to prehydration treatments by factor nano-silicon dioxide as; (S1) 0 mM or distilled water, (S2) 1 mM concentration and (S3) 2 mM concentration and and factor nano-iron oxide as; (F1) 0 Mm or distilled water, (F2) 1 mM concentration and (F3) 2 mM concentration. Germination percent, root fresh weight, shoot fresh weight, root length, shoot length, dry weight of the seed residue, root dry weight and shoot dry weight were measured. Analysis of variance showed significant variation for the main effect of nano-silicon dioxide as well as nanoiron dioxide in root length and dry weight of the seed residue. The interaction effect of nano-silicon × nanoiron priming treatments were significant in all of the measured traits except germination percentage and root fresh weight. The highest germination percentage was recorded in S2-F3, S3-F1 and S3-F3 while the root fresh weight was high in S2-F3 and treatments S1-F1 following to S2-F3 and S3-F2 produced the highest shoot fresh weight. Also, S2-F3 has the highest root length (16.1 cm) and the highest shoot length (18.4 cm). The best treatment combination suitable for obtaining of high values of germination characteristics of dragonhead was identified as S2-F3 (1 mM nano-silicon dioxide plus 2 mM nano-iron dioxide).

In the study SEM, EDS, TEM and UV-vis analysis were used to investigate the biosorption, bioaccumulation and bioprecipitation/bioreduction of silver by freshwater green alga Parachlorella kessleri and to shed light on the reasons of biological silver nanoparticle production. When dead biomass of P. kessleri was used for silver removal, majority of silver (75%) was removed within 2 min. Biosorption was probably the main mechanisms responsible for Ag+ ions removal from aqueous solutions. However, when behaviour of living biomass in the presence of silver ions was studied, the decrease of silver concentration was slower (68% within 24 hours) with subsequent increase of silver concentration in the solution and extracellular formation of silver nanoparticles. The formed AgNPs exhibited a lower toxicity against tested organisms. Algal cells probably used the formation of nanoparticles combined with rapid biosorption as detoxification mechanisms against silver toxicity. Bioaccumulation inside the cells played only a minor role in the detoxification process.
W badaniu wykorzystano analizę SEM, EDS, TEM i UV-vis do zbadania biosorpcji, bioakumulacji i bioprecypitacji/bioredukcji srebra przez słodkowodną zieloną algę Parachlorella kessleri i rzucenia światła na przyczyny biologicznej produkcji nanocząstek srebra. Gdy do usunięcia srebra użyto martwej biomasy P. kessleri, większość srebra (75%) usunięto w ciągu 2 minut. Biosorpcja była prawdopodobnie głównym mechanizmem odpowiedzialnym za usuwanie jonów Ag+ z roztworów wodnych. Jednakże, gdy badano zachowanie żywej biomasy w obecności jonów srebra, spadek stężenia srebra był wolniejszy (68% w ciągu 24 godzin) z późniejszym wzrostem stężenia srebra w roztworze i zewnątrzkomórkowym tworzeniem nanocząstek srebra. Utworzone AgNP wykazywały mniejszą toksyczność wobec badanych organizmów. Komórki glonów prawdopodobnie wykorzystywały tworzenie nanocząstek połączonych z szybką biosorpcją jako mechanizmów detoksykacji przeciwko toksyczności srebra. Bioakumulacja wewnątrz komórek odgrywała tylko niewielką rolę w procesie detoksykacji.

Silver nanoparticles have been deposited on glass and polyethylene substrate by Chemical Bath Deposition (CBD) technique and Chemical rolling method. A comparative study has shown that Chemical bath technique is superior compared to rolling technique for uniform deposition of silver nanoparticles on glass substrate. Crystallography investigation of these materials is done by X-ray diffraction (XRD) which reveals that average grain size is in nano region. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) is used for topography study of these prepared nanostructures. Optical properties of the synthesized materials are studied by UV-VIS in detail to check their potential for next era industrial revolution.

Iron oxide nanoparticles were incorporated to form composite microspheres of SiO2 and Fe2O3 for magnetic separation of the particles after adsorption or photochemical decomposition. Economic material, sodium silicate, was purified by ion exchange to prepare aqueous silicic acid solution, followed by mixing with iron oxide nanoparticles. Resulting aqueous dispersion was emulsified, and composite microspheres of SiO2 and Fe2O3 was formed from the emulsion droplets as micro-reactors during heating. Removal of methylene blue using the composite microspheres was performed by batch adsorption process. Synthesis of composite microspheres of silica containing Fe2O3 and TiO2 nanoparticles was also possible, the particles could be separated using magnets efficiently after removal of organic dye.

Opis:
Rapid synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) by pulsed electrodeposition was investigated in the non-aqueous electrolyte, 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazoliumbis(trifluoro- methanesulfonyl)imide ([EMIM]TFSI) with gold trichloride (AuCl3). To aid the dissolution of AuCl3, 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium chloride ([EMIM]Cl) was used as a supporting electrolyte in [EMIM]TFSI. Cyclicvoltammetry experiments revealed a cathodic reaction corresponding to the reduction of gold at −0.4 V vs. Pt-QRE. To confirmthe electrodeposition process, potentiostatic electrodeposition of gold in the non-aqueous electrolyte was conducted at −0.4 V for 1 h at room temperature. To synthesize AuNPs, pulsed electrodeposition was conducted with controlled duty factor, pulse duration, and overpotential. The composition, particle-size distribution, and morphology of the AuNPs were confirmed by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The electrodeposited AuNPs were uniformly distributed on the platinum electrode surface without any impurities arising from the non-aqueous electrolyte. The size distribution of AuNPs could be also controlled by the electrodeposition conditions.

Opis:
Lizardite slime coating is one of significant factors in the deterioration of the floatability of sulphide minerals. In this study, a nanoparticle cationic polystyrene-co-poly(n-butylacrylate)(PS-PBNH) collector was introduced to eliminate the negative impact of lizardite slimes in pyrite flotation. Microflotation results demonstrated that lizardite slims did not affect the recovery of pyrite in the presence of PS-PBNH. Good flotation separation of pyrite from lizardite was achieved when the nanoparticle PS-PBNH collector was used. The results from adsorption study indicated that PS-PBNH exhibited a significant adsorption on the pyrite surface in the presence of lizardite slimes. Sedimentation tests showed that hetero-aggregation occurred between lizardite slimes and pyrite, whereas the introduction of PS-PBNH collector resulted in a heterogeneous dispersion between them. Zeta potential measurements suggested that PS-PBNH collector interacted with pyrite surface, and the PS-PBNH adsorption changed the surface charge of pyrite from negative to be positive. As a result, the interaction of pyrite with lizardite shifted from electrostatic attraction to electrostatic repulsion, as supported by the DLVO calculations. These results indicated PS-PBNH can be used as a potential collector for pyrite flotation in pyrite/lizardite slimes system without the need for a depressant.

Opis:
A special group of hybrid assisted processes termed media-assisted processes which apply liquid media with special additives in the form of nanoparticles supplied to the cutting zone is overviewed. Special attention is paid to minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) technique with the use of nanofluids. In this review paper some important thermal and tribological effects resulting from the applications of various nanoparticles are outlined and compared. The MQL-nano cutting fluid mechanisms (rolling and ploughing) are described. In particular, some important quantitative effects concerning thermal and tribological behaviour of the cutting process as well as surface quality are presented.

The effect of six SiO2 nanosized concentrations (0, 5, 20, 40, 60 and 80 mg L-1) and three seed prechilling treatments (control, seed prechilling before nano SiO2 treatments, treatments of seed with nano SiO2 before prechilling) on germination and seedling growth of tall wheatgrass (Agropyron elongatum L.) were studied. Results indicated that application of SiO2 nanoparticles significantly increased seed germination of tall wheatgrass from 58 percent in control group to 86.3 and 85.7 percent in 40 and 60 mg L-1, respectively. Applying SiO2 nanoparticles increased dry weight of shoot, root and seedling of tall wheatgrass. Increasing concentration of nanoparticle from 0 up to 40 mg L-1 increased seedling weight around 49 percent compared to the control, nevertheless decreased under 60 and 80 mg L-1 treatments. In conclusion, seed prechilling in combination with SiO2 nanoparticles largely broke the seed dormancy for A. elongatum.

An attractive possibility of green nanotechnology is to use microorganisms in the synthesis of silver nanoparticles. Recently, the biosynthesis especially from fungi has emerged as a novel method for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles. Nanoparticles are considered as building blocks of Nanotechnology. In the present work we have screened fungi for the extracellular production of silver nanoparticles. Aspergillus sps, Rhizopus sps, Fusarium sp. and Penicillium sp. were the isolates screened and subjected to silver nanoparticles production. Of the tested isolates, the fungus Aspergillus sp. showed maximum absorbance at 416 nm which is an indication of Silver nanoparticles production. Further characterization was made by TEM which revealed the shape to be spherical and size ranged between 20-55 nm, EDS showed the presence of elemental silver at 3kev, FTIR spectrum showed the different functional groups, XRD spectrum showed the crystalline nature of the particles and AFM revealed three dimensional structures of the nanoparticles. Of all kinds of nanoparticles silver nanoparticles show great promise in terms of biomedical applications as they exhibit different biomedical activities.

Przedstawiono klasyczną teorię filtracji nanocząstek aerozolowych w filtrach włókninowych, bazującą na średniej średnicy włókna. Dokonano uogólnienia tej teorii formułując nowy model penetracji nanoaerozoli przez rzeczywiste, polidyspersyjne filtry, który uwzględnia pełny rozkład średnic włókien oraz segregację przepływu w niehomogenicznym filtrze. Znaleziono rozwiązanie tego modelu dla powszechnie spotykanego dla filtrów włókninowych logarytmiczno-normalnego rozkładu średnic włókien.
Classical theory of aerosol nanoparticle filtration in fibrous filters, based on a mean fiber diameter, was outlined. This theory was generalized by formulating a new model of nanoaerosol penetration through real, polydisperse filters that accounts for full fiber diameter distribution and flow segregation in an inhomogeneous filter. The model was solved in the commonly met case of log-normal fiber diameter distribution in fibrous filters.

Przedstawiono wyniki badań doświadczalnych filtracji siedmiu rodzajów nanocząstek aerozolowych w rzeczywistych, polidyspersyjnych filtrach włókninowych. Wykazano, że zaproponowany model przepływu częściowo segregowanego, zastosowany wraz z logarytmiczno-logistyczną interpolacją stopnia segregacji, jest w stanie bardzo precyzyjnie opisać penetrację nanoaerozoli, w przeciwieństwie do klasycznej teorii filtracji dla dowolnie dobranej średniej zastępczej średnicy włókna.
Results of experimental study of seven kinds of aerosol nanoparticle filtration in real, polydisperse fibrous filters were presented. It was shown that the proposed partially segregated flow model used in line with log-logistic interpolation of the segregation intensity is capable of very precisely describing nanoaerosol penetration, contrary to the classical filtration theory applied to any mean equivalent fiber diameter.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań nad syntezą ultra drobnokrystalicznych zawiesin bromku srebra, uzyskiwanych w postaci stężonych zoli stabilizowanych nadmiarem jonów bromkowych oraz żelatyną. Zbadano wpływ szybkości dozowania substratów do mieszaniny dyspersyjnej na wielkość powstających kryształów bromku srebra. Oszacowano również zmiany wielkości kryształów w czasie przechowywania zawiesin w formie żelu, w obniżonej temperaturze. Właściwości granulometryczne badano metodą turbidymetryczną dokonując pomiaru zmętnienia w czasie procesu krystalizacji oraz metodą stężeniową.
This work present the results of research in ultra-fine crystals suspension of silver bromide crystals, which were received as high concentration sols stabilized by excess of bromide ions and gelatin. Relation between dosing rate of reactants to dispersion system and size of obtained silver bromide crystals was investigated. Alterations of crystals size during storing time as gel in decreased temperature, was estimated. Particle size distributions were examined by turbidity measurements using direct turbidity measurement technique in real time of crystallization process and by concentration method.

Since plant responses to selenium nanoparticles (nSe) had not been clarified, this study was carried out to evaluate the effects of nSe (10 and 100 μM) on photosynthesis performance, ion homeostasis, antioxidant system, and phenylpropanoids in strawberry exposed to salt stress. Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectroscopy analyses indicated that foliar-applied nSe can be taken up by leaves and trans-located to roots. Salinity led to an increase in Na concentration and reductions in Ca and K contents which were relieved by the nSe applications. Moreover, the nSe treatment at 10 μM alleviated the NaCl-induced lesion to PSII functioning, contributing to improvement in water-splitting complex (Fv /Fo ) under salinity. The exposure to nSe at a concentration of 100 μM exhibited a moderate stress, determined by the increases in hydrogen peroxide (H 2O2) and lipid peroxidation rate (membrane integrity index). The nSe10 treatment increased catalase activity and phenylpropanoid derivatives contents (salicylic acid, catechin, and caffeic acid) and decreased the content of oxidants under salinity condition. Consequently, nSe utilization at a suitable dose can be an effective method to alleviate signs of salt stress via improvements in photosynthesis, ion hemostasis, photosynthesis performance, salicylic acid (a vital signaling defensive hormone), and antioxidant machinery.

Interaction of hierarchical nanoporous carbons(HNCs) with chicken embryo red blood cells (RBC.The purpose of this study was to characterize toxicity of hierarchical nanoporous carbons (HNCs) on chicken embryo red blood cells (RBC). RBC are a perfect model to adapt the hemolysis assay in evaluation of the in vitro blood compatibility of nanoparticles. The samples of blood were treated with different concentration of HNCs (10 µg/ml, 50 µg/ml and 100 µg/ml). Hemolysis assay showed that the hemolytic activity depends on the dose of HNCs. The microscope observations have shown a difference in morphology between treated and untreated RBC: changes in cell membrane shape and the occurrence of pathological erythrocytes forms.
Interakcjahierarchicznych nanoporowatych nanocząstek węglowych(HNCs)z czerwonymi krwinkami zarodka kury. Celem tego badania było określenie toksyczności hierarchicznych nanoporowatych nanocząstek węglowych(HNCs) wobec krwinek czerwonych, pozyskanych z zarodka kury (RBC). RBC są idealnym modelem do oceny testu hemolizy w badaniach zgodności nanoczątek w warunkach in vitro. Do próbek krwi zarodka kurzego zostały dodane HNCs w różnych stężeniach (10 µg/ml, 50 µg/ml i 100 µg/ml). Test hemolizy wykazał, że aktywność hemolityczna zależy od dawki HNCs. Podczas obserwacji mikroskopowych zobserwowano różnice w morfologii pomiędzy traktowanymi HNCs, a nietraktowanymi RBC. Stwierdzono zmianę kształtu błony komórkowej krwinek i występowanie patologicznych form erytrocytów.
