Opis:
A coated nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium (NPK) fertilizer was prepared via crosslinking chitosan and alginate using citric acid. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), particle size analysis, and zeta potential measurement showed the successful crosslinking, appropriate size, and colloidal stability of the coated NPK fertilizer. The encapsulation capability of the crosslinked chitosan/alginate (Chi/Alg) was studied using fluorescence spectroscopy and NPK analysis. The release behavior studies under various pH conditions showed that Chi/Alg NPK conformed to the standards of controlled release fertilizer with a maximum release rate of 40% for 30 days. The investigation of the release mechanism using Korsemeyer-Peppas mathematical model showed that the release of nutrients is governed by both coating material relaxation and diffusion process.

Opis:
Herein, the effect of applying different rates of inorganic fertilizer (NPK 20:10:10) and organic fertilizer (neem seed) and their combinations on plant nutrient concentration and yield of okra was studied under field conditions at two locations within the University of Calabar Teaching and Research Farm. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Eleven treatments were applied. These were comprised of a control (no amendment), sole NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer and neem–based organic fertilizer applied at two rates (100 and 120 kg N/ha), combinations of 60 kg N/ha NPK+ 60 kg N/ha Neem, 50 kg N/ha NPK+ 50 kg N/ha Neem, 90 kg N/ha NPK + 30 kg N/ha Neem,25 kg N/ha NPK+ 75 kg N/ha Neem, 30 kg N/ha NPK + 90 kg N/ha Neem and 25 kg N/ha NPK+ 75 kg N/ha Neem. Amongst the two rates (100 and 120 kg N/ha) of sole application of either NPK or Neem-based organic fertilizer, the 120 kg N/ha recorded the highest number of fruits set and okra fresh fruit yield. The combination of 60 NPK + 60 Neem kg N/ha increased the yield (8.43 t/ha) and yield components of okra, while the 90 NPK + 30 Neem kg N/ha and 30 NPK + 90 Neem kg N/ha increased nutrient concentration in the okra plant. Thus, for sole application, the 120 kg N/ha application of either nutrient source is appropriate, but for optimum yield of okra in the tropical rainforest zone of Nigeria, the combination of both organic and inorganic fertilizer especially at 60 kg N/ha of each nutrient source, is recommended.

Opis:
Influence of mineral fertilizer on the growth of maize (Zea mays L.) and soil fertility improvement for food security, environmental development and sustainable agriculture were studied. Five treatments viz: 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 kg of NPK (15:15:15) mineral fertilizer per hectare (kg ha-1) were used in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replicates. These treatments were applied once to five week-old seedlings of Zea mays (L.) using ring method. The effects of these treatments on plant height (PH) and number of leaves (NOL) were monitored weekly. Soil samples were taken and analyzed in the laboratory, before and after cropping. The study showed that NPK (15:15:15) mineral fertilizer increased plant height, number of leaves and nutrient (N, P,K, Ca, Na, Mg, Organic matter, Cation Exchange Capacity and pH) content of the soil. The highest (p = 0.05) plant height and number of leaves were obtained from NPK treatment at 20 kg ha-1 which stands significantly (p < 0.05) different over the control. At p < 0.05, there were significant difference among treatments. The use of NPK mineral fertilizer at an application rate between 15 and 20 kg NPK (15:15:15) ha-1 seems effective, responsive and productive for maximum growth of maize (Zea mays L.), for soil fertility improvement, food security, environmental development and for sustainable agricultural production.

Opis:
W doświadczeniu modelowym na gruncie popiołowym badano rekultywacyjną efektywność kompostów wyprodukowanych ze zmieszanych odpadów komunalnych (Radiowo i ZUSOK), kompostów z odpadów zieleni miejskiej (Complex), masy roślinnej trawników osiedlowych (roślinny) i komunalnego osadu ściekowego oraz nawozu mineralnego (NPK – bez nawożenia organicznego). Doświadczenie zapoczątkowano w roku 2005 i kontynuowano do końca roku 2013. Plony roślin zbierano i analizowano w latach 2005, 2006 i 2011–2012. Sumaryczne plony suchej masy roślin (w latach 2005–2013) były największe w wariancie Complex, następnie w wariantach Radiowo i roślinnym, a najmniejsze w wariancie ZUSOK.
Reclamation efficiency of composts produced from the mixture of municipal waste (Radiowo and ZUSOK), urban green waste composts (Complex), housing estate lawn mowing waste (plants) and sewage sludge, as well as mineral fertilizer (NPK – without the use of any organic fertilizer), was assessed in a model experiment on an ash soil. The experiment was launched in 2005 and continued until the end of 2013. Crops were collected and subjected to the analysis in 2005, 2006 and between 2011 and 2012. In the period between 2007 and 2010 no agrotechnical treatments were carried out, with the experiment being limited to mere observation of the natural (spontaneous) succession of plants. Reclamation doses of composts and sewage sludge were measured quantitatively, therefore they differed in the content of dry matter as well as in the contents of organic substances and minerals in the dry matter. The largest aggregated dry matter yield of plants (2005–2013) was reported in the Complex variant, and similarly, in the Radiowo and plant variants, whereas the ZUSOK variant reported the lowest aggregated dry matter field of plants. The yield-forming efficiency of NPK fertilizer was lower than in the case of compost and sludge variants. However, the field-forming efficiency of sewage sludge was lower than its fertilization potential as it was unstable and difficult to mix with the experimental soil. The results showed the yield-forming potential of plants on the experimental coal combustion waste deposits fertilized with composts and sewage sludge as well as the examples of the sites where sewage sludge could be used for the biological reclamation of landfills and spoil tips.

Opis:
This study was conducted during the two winter seasons (2018/2019&2019/2020) to investigate the effect of NPK and compost fertilizers on the Camelina sativa plant under Egyptian ecology. The fertilizer levels of NPK were 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%, recommended doses, whereas compost was applied at 6, 8 and 10 m3/fed to investigate the effect of these fertilizers and the interaction of both chemical and organic fertilizers on the vegetative growth, oil yield and oil components percentage, especially Linolenic acid (ω-3). The obtained results indicated that the application of 100% NPK as well as 10 m3 of compost produced the highest mean values of all vegetative characteristics compared to unfertilized plants at both samples in the two growing seasons and the other treatments. On the other hand, the results showed that all NPK treatments, i.e. 25, 50, 75, and 100% NPK significantly increased seed yield (g/plant) as compared to control, the mean values were 3.06, 4.70, 9.09 and 10.20 g/plant compared to 1.84 g/plant, respectively, for the 1st season and 3.11, 4.48, 9.27 & 10.27 g/plant comparing to 1.80 of control for the 2nd season. Compost treatments significantly increased the seed yield; the mean values were 5.10, 5.72, 5.88 and 6.42 g/plant in the 1st season and 5.09, 5.73, 5.99 and 6.32 g/plant in the 2nd season for fertilization with 0, 6, 8 and 10 m3/Fed., respectively. The maximum mean values were obtained by compost at 10 m3/fed. The interaction treatment between 100% NPK and 10 m3/fed showed the maximum mean value of seed yield which recorded 10.51 and 10.78 g/plant for the 1st and 2nd seasons, respectively. In contrast, the lowest values of seed yield were obtained from unfertilized plant which recorded 1.09 and 1.04 g/plant for the 1st and 2nd seasons, respectively. The promising effect of NPK fertilizer on fixed oil % and yield was evident with NPK 100%, 52.53% and 52.83% fixed oil, whereas yield was 408.63 and 413.68 l/fed.), followed by 75% NPK which produced fixed oil percentage and yield 46.82, 46.77% as well as 207.29 and 208.06 l/fed for the first and second season, respectively, compared with other treatments and control. The highest fixed oil percentages and yield (l/fed) were recorded with NPK at 100% and compost at 10 m3/fed during both seasons.

Opis:
Cereal grains have been a primary source of nourishment for humans for thousands of years. Agronomic inputs such as fertilizers, pesticides, water and modern seeds have a major impact on the level of cereal crops. However, yield, to a greater extent, depends on the dose of applied NPK mineral fertilization. The aim of the article is to determine the consumption level of NPK mineral fertilizers and cereal yield and their tendency to change over time, taking correlation into account. Analysis was performed on a global level. The material for analysis was statistical data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations database for the years 2002-2017. As a result of the conducted analyzes, it was confirmed that mineral fertilization is the main factor of production that determines the food security of the world’s growing human population. However, the consumption of this factor of production is greatly varied in the world. It should also be emphasized that, both on a global scale and for most continents, there are clear trends reflecting a correlation in the increase in the use of NPK mineral fertilizers, including nitrogen fertilizers, and cereal yield level.
