This article describes main presumptions about the motive, its mechanics and classification. It also presents the way the motive influences on committing a crime. How difficult it is unequivocally to define what the main reason of committing such a horrible crime was. Moreover, there are characterizations of people who committed crimes and are serving a sentence at the moment. Having taken them as an example I tried to show how it works that a man who is actuated by emotions and not only them can take somebody’s life.

L’articolo tratta il motivo della dimenticanza dei protagonisti maschili del "Pentamerone" di Giambattista Basile. Questa raccolta barocca di fiabe, dalla forte valenza letteraria, riprende più volte gli archetipi della dimenticanza, presenti nelle fiabe popolari, essendo nello stesso tempo costruita intorno a uno di loro, il che fa di tale oblio maschile la chiave di interpretazione del libro intero. La perdita della persona amata e il tentativo di ristabilire la memoria dell’accaduto sono due elementi che giustificano e uniscono la costruzione del "Pentamerone", facendole da cornice. L’opera di Basile è il miglior esempio di come il motivo della dimenticanza – dando spunto all’intreccio generale e provocando l’interdipendenza delle storie raccontate – ne organizza l’insieme.

The article is an attempt of analysis of Włodzimierz Tetmajer’s chosen works concerning the harvest. I am also describing images of the harvest on the Polish village of Kamionka, being in surroundings of Chełm, which I remembered from the childhood. The article includes reflections on the human body in the landscape as a main subject of Sylvia Plath's poetry. The landscape and nature are real but distorted by subjective vision of poet's psyche. And the body is determined by this environment. Sometimes we can see two types of anatomy: human and natural. In Plath's poetry there is also seen the influence of the philosopher R. E. Emerson, who wrote that the human and the nature are in ideal unity. The landscape around person who speaks in Sylvia Plath's poems merges with her body. Nature seems to be the extension of the body. Element of the nature penetrate human organs. Sometimes the landscape in Sylvia Plath's poems is very unpleas-antforthe human body, isfull of cold stones, thorns and poisonous fume. The flowers and the trees in Plath's poetry usually are person if icated. Red flowers such as poppies or tulips are alive, their rich color is compare with wounds. In Poem fora B/rt/iday there is shown the relationship between nature and human body. The metaphors there are similar to imaging in the poetry of Theodor Roethke. Special subject in Plath's poetry is water landscape. Water is the border that lyrical subject of poems can't across. In such a environment person can't move. Water in this poetry is usually dark and scary.

In his article Wallenrod’s Garden and the Mystery of Wajdelota the author analyses the role of the motif of garden in Adam Mickiewicz’s epic poem Konrad Wallenrod. The conventionality of the use of the term ‘garden’ is emphasized by pointing to the fact that there were some changes introduced to the order of the valley near the Neman River, which were conducive to his amorous meetings with his Ladylove. The manner in which the picture of ‘the garden’ is outlined in the poem is confronted by the author with the classical and romantic gardening styles. It is stressed that the poet distances himself from the two schools, which results from, among other things, the emphasis on the beauty of the valley, a garden created by Nature herself. The motif of the garden played an important role in Konrad’s last conversation with Aldona, when the main hero of the poem tried in vain to persuade his wife to escape to Lithuania. He tempted her with a mirage of regained happiness, appealed to their mutual memories, in which this old and still existing garden, a witness of their love, occupied the central place. While analyzing the strategy of insistence used by Wallenrod in this situation, the author of the article referred to the conception of memory proposed by a German researcher, Jan Assmann. In the last part of the essay the character of the relationship between Wallenrod and Halban is considered along with the attempt to unravel the mystery hidden in the words “my son!”, which the old Lithuanian bard, the patron of Konrad’s spy mission, used in their last conversation.

The interrelationship between literature and cinema is usually reduced merely to the connection between a book and its screen adaptation. Thus, a great many of the viewers of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining would analyze its relation and fidelity to Stephen King’s novel. The reasoning presented in this essay stands in opposition to this tendency because various minor details of a movie may refer to other literary texts as well. In addition, a link to other works of art is often more meaningful and relevant than a reference to a book which was the basis of an adaptation. Therefore, it can be demonstrated that Kubrick alludes to Johann Wolfgang’s Faust in a variety of ways in The Shining. The comparison of the movie’s protagonist with the eponymous character of the play makes it easier to comprehend the cinematic character’s complex personality. This explains the content of The Shining even though the plot is based upon another literary text.

In the interview which appeared after the premiere of The Shining, Kubrick said that the fantastic qualities of reality in his movies are “treated in a very […] ordinary way”. He indicated that uncanny events are also depicted in this way in Jorge Luis Borges’ writings. The comparison made by Kubrick should not be disregarded since the labyrinth motif, which does not appear in Stephen King’s book that has been adapted for the screen, is an important theme in Borges’ works as well as in The Shining. The Garden of Forking Paths, which was also written by this Argentinian writer, not only explores the above-mentioned motif, but also describes the conception of time which can be found in The Shining and in the last scene of Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Borges’ literary works might be helpful in comprehending Kubrick’s notion of the fourth dimension. The coexistence of different times in The Shining, in turn, refers to the theological idea of eternity. This conception corresponds to the main character’s nature – especially his desires, aspirations and anxieties. The established perspective provides an opportunity to exemplify what Kubrick meant by showing the fantastic qualities of reality “in a simple, non-baroque style”.

The most superior aim of each biznes organisation is increasing the company profits through its regular development,effectiveness and preserving the competiting position on the market. Success achievement is conditioned with the amount of the possessed financial capital and equally with the value of the human capital. The most essential duty of each manager isa skillfull extraction of the worker’s most useful features which are the best for the whole organisation. It can be done through appropriate motivation which leads to several efficient actions. The motivating system in a general meaning is a set of instruments and managment tools, therefore the criterion of taking these tools into consideration resolves about the effectiveness of the motivating infuence on each workers’ attitude.

Animals for Sacrifice(on Ivan Shmelev’s Novel The Sun of the Dead) The article analyzes the most tragic work of Ivan Shmelev about time at the end of the Civil War in Russia, about the “epic” The Sun of the Dead. The tragedy of the story that is in its title gradually grows and intensifies in accordance with the dynamics of the plot action, realized in the motives of survival-dying and impending apocalypse. In the picture of the dying world, animals have an exclusive role, they are destined to be the first to go for sacrifice, whether they are birds (peacock, eagle, hawk, pigeons, etc.) or domestic animals (horse, cow, dog, cat). In the development of their characters, a special function is performed by zoonyms that allow each of them to be personified and to emphasize the value of the life of any being.
Zwierzęta składane w ofierze(na podstawie noweli Iwana Szmielowa Słońce umarłych) Artykuł zawiera analizę najtragiczniejszego dzieła Iwana Szmielowa – „epopei” Słońce umarłych, opisującego ostatnie chwile wojny domowej w Rosji. Tragizm opowieści, wybrzmiewający w tytule, narasta stopniowo i nasila się wraz z rozwojem akcji, realizując się w motywach przetrwania-umierania oraz zbliżającej się apokalipsy. W obrazie ginącego świata zwierzęta odgrywają wyjątkową rolę, są pierwszymi stworzeniami, które składane są w ofierze – niezależnie od tego, czy są to ptaki (paw, orły, jastrząb, gołębie itp.), czy zwierzęta domowe (koń, krowa, pies, kot). W zrozumieniu ich losów szczególną funkcję pełnią zoonimy, które pozwalają na personifikację każdego ze zwierząt i podkreślają wartość życia wszystkich stworzeń.

W części teoretycznej artykułu – na podstawie krytycznej analizy literatury przedmiotu – przedstawiono istotę i podstawowe klasyfikacje motywów internacjonalizacji (umiędzynarodowienia) działalności przedsiębiorstwa. Zwrócono uwagę na pogląd, zgodnie z którym przedsiębiorstwo poprzez internacjonalizację dąży do osiągnięcia określonego nadrzędnego celu w postaci zwiększenia sprzedaży i zysku oraz wartości firmy. Wspomnieć trzeba, że w praktyce zazwyczaj mamy do czynienia z wielością celów (np. zdobycie nowych rynków lub utrzymanie bądź zbudowanie pozycji konkurencyjnej). Jednocześnie wskazano na istnienie różnorodnych klasyfikacji motywów szczegółowych, wśród których można wymienić podział na bodźce wewnętrzne i zewnętrzne oraz aktywne i reaktywne. Bez względu na przyjętą klasyfikację można przyjąć, że poszczególne motywy stanowią ważny element kształtowania strategii rozwoju i budowania przewagi konkurencyjnej przedsiębiorstwa w międzynarodowym otoczeniu. O ile zagadnienie motywów internacjonalizacji przedsiębiorstwa jest wyczerpująco opisane w aspekcie teoretycznym w literaturze przedmiotu z zakresu zarządzania międzynarodowego, to niewiele jest aktualnych i kompleksowych opracowań przedstawiających rolę i znaczenie poszczególnych motywów w procesie internacjonalizacji polskich przedsiębiorstw na podstawie badań empirycznych. Powyższa luka badawcza zostaje wypełniona w części empirycznej artykułu. Przedstawiono w niej wyniki własnych badań, mających na celu identyfikację i charakterystykę motywów internacjonalizacji polskich przedsiębiorstw produkcyjnych. W badaniach wykorzystano metodę ankiety pocztowej. W wyniku badań stwierdzono dominujące znaczenie motywów rynkowych i instytucjonalno-systemowych w procesie internacjonalizacji ankietowanych przedsiębiorstw. W dalszej kolejności znalazły się motywy zasobowe i kosztowe. Zidentyfikowane motywy internacjonalizacji mają charakter komplementarny, istnieją pomiędzy nimi sprzężenia zwrotne wzmacniające skłonność do umiędzynarodowienia działalności przedsiębiorstwa.
Based on a critical analysis of the literature, the theoretical part of the paper presents the essence and basic classifications of the motives for internationalisation of a company’s activity. Attention is drawn to the opinion that companies use internationalisation as a tool for achieving a specific overriding goal meaning an increase in sales and profit and in the company value. It should be noted, however, that in practice there is usually a multiplicity of goals (e.g. winning new markets, maintaining or building a competitive position, etc.). At the same time, it is indicated that there are different classifications of detailed motives including internal and external stimuli, as well as active and reactive ones. Regardless of the adopted classification, it may be assumed that individual motives are an important element of shaping the company’s strategy for growth and gaining the competitive edge in the international environment. While the issue of motives for a company’s internationalisation is exhaustively described in the theoretical aspect in the literature on international management, there are very few up-to-date and comprehensive empirical studies on the role and importance of individual motives in the process of internationalisation of Polish companies. This research gap is filled in the empirical part of the paper, which presents the results of own empirical studies aiming to identify and characterise the motives for internationalisation of Polish production companies. The research was conducted using the postal survey method. The results point to the dominant significance of market and institutional/systemic motives in the process of internationalisation of the surveyed companies. Resource and cost motives come next. The identified motives for internationalisation have a complementary nature. Mutual feedback exists among them enhancing the tendency to internationalise the company’s activity.
