Opis:
The determination of effective mechanical properties of multi-layer composite is presented in this paper. Computations based on finite element method predicting properties of inhomogeneous materials require solving huge tasks. More effective is Mori-Tanaka approach, typical for micromechanics problems. For regularly distributed fibers closed-forms for effective composite material properties are possible to derive. The results of homogenization are used in strength analysis of the composite pressure vessel.

In this work, stress analysis of a polymeric cylinder’s cylindrical shell reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is investigated. The cylinder is subjected to mechanical and thermal loadings. All the equivalent mechanical and thermal properties of nano-composite cylinder are obtained using Mori-Tanaka model. Based on equilibrium, the governing equation is derived. Using an exact solution, the stresses and radial displacement distributions in the structure are calculated. The effects of CNTs volume percent on the stresses and radial displacement for internal and external pressure cylinder are the main discussion of this study. Numerical results indicate that with increasing CNTs volume percent, the stresses decrease. However, this shows the important effect of nanotechnology in stress reduction of cylinder which may be useful in sensors and actuators.

The combining ability effects of five silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) strains and their 20 F₁'s including reciprocals were analysed in a 5x5 diallel cross for seven silk yield attributes, viz. effective rate of rearing (ERR), a measure of survival, cocoon yield, cocoon weight, shell weight, raw silk percentage, silk filament length/cocoon and silk reelability. Higher values of specific combining ability (SCA) than the corresponding general combining ability (GCA) for all the attributes except ERR and cocoon yield are indicative of non-additive gene action. The parental strain JC2P was the best general combiner for all the attributes, except cocoon yield. The highest general combining ability effect for cocoon yield was shown by N4. The highest desirable or positive SCA effects resulted from N4 × SH2 (all the attributes except shell weight), JC2P × 14M (all the attributes except cocoon weight and shell weight), 14M × SH2 (all the attributes except ERR), N4 × SPJ1 (all the attributes except shell weight and raw silk percentage). Only one reciprocal, namely SPJ1 × N4, showed positive effects for all the attributes except silk reelability. The improvement of cocoon yield through mass selection followed by intermating and the use of the parental strain JC2P in future cross breeding are discussed.

In this paper the numerical simulations of microcellular injection molding process for polymer composite with glass fiber for variable content of pores were carried out. In order to evaluate the strength of the three-phase composite structure (polypropylene PP as a matrix, 20% wt. of glass fiber GF and 1-9 % vol. of the pores) a microstructural analysis was performed and strength calculations were conducted using the Mori-Tanaka homogenization model. The analyzed product (the base of industrial mop) was subjected to the loading in Ansys 14.5 commercial code, considering the impact of pores content on its mechanical properties. Furthermore, the paper presents the visualization of calculated composite microstructure for variable pores contents.
W pracy przeprowadzono symulacje numeryczne procesu wtryskiwania z mikroporowaniem wypraski z kompozytu polimerowego z włóknem szklanym dla zmiennej zawartości objętościowej porów. W celu oceny wytrzymałościowej trójfazowej struktury kompozytu (matryca polipropylenowa PP, 20% wag. włókien szklanych WS oraz 1-9% obj. porów) wykonano analizę mikrostrukturalną oraz przeprowadzono obliczenia wytrzymałościowe z użyciem modelu homogenizacji Mori-Tanaka. Analizowany wytwór (element mopa przemysłowego) poddano symulacji obciążenia w programie Ansys 14.5, określając wpływ zmiennego stopnia porowania na jego właściwości wytrzymałościowe. Ponadto w pracy przedstawiono wizualizację prognozowanej mikrostruktury dla kompozycji przy zmiennym stopniu porowatości kompozytu.

Serpins are a broadly distributed family of protease inhibitors. In this study, the gene encoding Bombyx mori serpin-2 (Bmserpin-2) was cloned and expressed in E. coli. The Bmserpin-2 cDNA contains a 1125 bp open reading frame (ORF). The deduced protein has 374 amino-acid residues, contains a conserved SERPIN domain and shares extensive homology with other invertebrate serpins. RT-PCR analysis showed that Bmserpin-2 was expressed in all developmental stages of B. mori larvae and various larval tissues. Subcellular localization analysis indicated that Bmserpin-2 protein was located in the cytoplasm. Interestingly, real-time quantitative PCR revealed that the expression of Bmserpin-2 in the midgut of susceptible B. mori strain 306 significantly increased at 72 hours post inoculation (hpi) when infected with BmNPV. However, there was no significant increase of the Bmserpin-2 expression in resistant strain NB infected with BmNPV. Thus, our data indicates that Bmserpin-2 may be involved in B. mori antiviral response.

Recently, there are various methods to incorporate additional properties into silkworm silk, during its production in the silk gland itself. These advanced properties involve additional mechanical strength, colour, ultraviolet resistance, etc. and it is utilized for a wide range of applications. The property which focused in this study is the colour, an important quality attribute of silk. Effect of neutral red, a vital dye used as dietary supplement and its nutritional effects on Bombyx mori (B. mori) along with the colour manipulating efficiency on the larvae were observed. The colour change noticed from larval to cocoon stage confirms its efficiency to get into the silk gland of the animal crossing through the integument and haemolymph. The results of the observed nutritional parameters confirms that the selected dye in the selected concentration is suitable to produce colour cocoons without disturbing the nutritional traits such as ingesta, digesta, approximate digestibility percentage, growth rate, efficiency conversion rate, etc. of the larva. The findings elucidates that more vital dyes may use for the production of colour silk without causing any harm to the silkworm physiology. As the dye has no harmful effect in the dietary parameters, which plays a major role in the growth of the larva and production of silk, it is assumed that it may not affect the economical and biochemical parameters also. However, it has to be confirmed by further analyses.

A great feeling of spirituality comes out from her texts. From 1999 to 2012 she wrote three texts about three different pictural works : La Raie by Chardin (french painter), L’Ordre du monde by Sujata Bajaj (indian artist) and L’Usage des jours by Guillaume Bardet (french designer). Trough her texts appears her literary and spiritual evolution. Literature proved to be a spiritual ritual, like a memento mori, but also an real prayer, an hymn in praise of the « living life ».

Pinellia ternata agglutinin (PTA) is highly homologous to many other monocot mannose-binding lectins which reportedly possess antitumor activities. Its production in silkworm cells has great application potential because the baculovirus expression system can produce post-translationally modified proteins at low cost. In the current study, the pta gene was cloned and expressed in silkworm cells, and the expressed protein was analyzed using a hemagglutination assay. A preliminary in vitro study on its anti-proliferative activity was performed. The results show that the recombinant PTA with an apparent molecular mass of 29 kDa can hemagglutinate rabbit erythrocytes and this activity can be inhibited by D-mannan at a low concentration. In addition, the recombinant hemagglutinin exhibited a dose-dependent anti-proliferative activity on hepatoma cells. The results of the current study suggest that PTA and other important bioactive proteins could be produced by silkworm bioreactor for biomedicine research and application.

In 1919 Sigmund Freud raised the interest in the uncanny by claiming in his essay "Das Unheimliche" that something can be familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. Since the emergence of the concept in the 20th century, many scholars have presented their own definition of the uncanny. The concept originates from the German unheimlich but the meaning reaches far beyond its dictionary definition. As Masschelein suggests, the word itself "is untranslatable qua form and content" (Masschelein 2011, 7) and as long as the uncanny cannot be understood literally, the ambiguity of the term can lead to a multitude of interpretations. The aim of this paper is to explore how the perception of the uncanny has been changing through the years in connection with the Freudian definition. The paper offers an overview of various interpretations of the concept starting from 1906 until today. The juxtaposition of the most significant views on the uncanny shows how the concept has gradually formed a basis for various fields of study such as literature and art. The paper presents future perspectives of the uncanny where it no longer refers only to the motif of the double or supernatural elements but it also tackles the problems of body transformations and politics.

Bombyx mori. L. (CSR2XCSR4) is a bivolitne crossbreed that produces high quantity of silk. The weights of worms and glands are directly related to the yield of silk, higher larval weights leads to higher silk production. In the present study, quantitative parameters of 5th instar and pupal stages of silkworm larvae were observed. The analysis of quantitative estimation showed that the maximum weights and lengths of silk gland and silk worm were recorded on 7th day of 5th instar larval stage. The day dependent variation in protein concentration was observed in total silk gland 5th instar larval and pupal stages.
