Opis:
Today Croats can be found living in many parts of the world. The process of Slavic migrations started in the 7th. Diasporas can be found in Austria, Slovakia, Romania, Czech Republic (Moravia and nowadays Prague), Serbia, Italy, even across the oceans in the USA, South America, RSA and Australia. The Croatian minority in Molise is the smallest Croatian minority in the world. Croatian is spoken there by about 2000 to 2400 people in three isolated mountain communities. They settled in villages, Kruč, Mundimitr and Filić possibly between the 14th and 15th century. Several Turkish invasions took place during this period, so Croats were forced to hide from the Sultan’s armies and they found refuge on the Apennine Peninsula. The country of Croatia, occupied with its battle against the infidels, has forgotten about its fellow countrymen, who had been living in the region of Molis, for a long time. In every day Croatian speech one can hear multiple loan-words. A particular problem can occur when writing some names of dishes which have been passed down but orally only. Molisan-Croatian cuisine and culinary names are part of Croatian cuisine that was created during the time of the Croatian Diaspora.

Opis:
Following the proposal in Seiler and Heine, possession is defined in terms of relationship between two entities, called possessor and possessed. Linguistic possession can be of different types: permanent, physical, inalienable, abstract, etc. In Italian and Croatian, possession is expressed by adjectives, pronouns, and prepositional phrases. In Croatian, it can be expressed also by morphological cases. In Italian, possession is rendered with possessive adjectives and pronouns (mia sorella) and the complement of possessive specification (la sorella di Mira). In Croatian, it is expressed equally (moja sestra); with the dative of the personal pronouns (sestra mi); with the possessive adjectives (posvojni pridjev; Mirina sestra); with the double genitive (sestra mojega oca); with the complement of possessive specification in the substandard varieties (sestra od Mire). The contribution investigates the ways to express possession in Molise Croatian, a štokavo-ikavo variety in use in the linguistic island of the Croatian minority in Italy, in Molise, from a contact-linguistics and contrastive perspective. As at all linguistic levels, when indicating ownership, Molise Croatian has conservative, Croatian, and innovative uses and forms, derived from contact with Italian and the Abruzzo-Molisan variety. In Molise Croatian, one can express ownership by using possessive pronouns (posvojne zamjenice/pridjevi; moja sestra); the dative of personal pronouns (sestra mi); the possessive adjective (posvojni pridjev; sestra Mirina); the complement of possessive specification (sestra do Mire); the double genitive (sestra mojoga oca). The main objective of this corpus-based research is to analyse and describe the influence of Italian and of the Abruzzo-Molisan variety on the morphosyntax and the distribution of possessives in Molise Croatian.

Opis:
This article discusses plurilingualism in the dialect comedies of Molisan playwright Antonio Angelone. After a brief biographical sketch of the author, the rich, expressive, and authentic dialect spoken by his protagonists from the peasant class is analysed. Furthermore, essential details and examples pertaining to Angelone’s keen awareness of the challenges of writing in dialect are provided. The most fundamental part of this essay focuses on the plurilingual aspects that—certainly not extraneous to literary production in Italy—fully manifest themselves in Angelone’s comedies; this occurs through characters created by a playwright who excels at highlighting how important it is to employ linguistic varieties adapted to the circumstances and needs of the protagonists to make the theatrical experience more authentic and more credible for the reader/viewer. Along with the dialect or dialects, there are examples of Standard Italian, popular Italian, and italiese, or the language of North-American Italians, in the repertoire of the protagonists, pronounced by characters who belong to different generations, who are from different social classes, and who come from different geographical areas.
