    The purpose of this article is to draw the reader’s attention to the research problems of military leadership that are identified at the lowest levels of command in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland. The authors presented cases of soldiers who present various attitudes in the context of understanding the role of a military leader, as well as ambiguously perceived competencies in this area, including their self-assessment. The problem of a systemic approach to the formation of leadership competencies in military education units is addressed, and the dangers of low levels of commander traits, aptitudes, and competencies are highlighted. The final conclusions inspire the reader to gain knowledge and undertake interdisciplinary research on military leadership.

    Artykuł dotyczy oceny klimatu akustycznego wokół lotniska wojskowego Poznań-Krzesiny. Badania przeprowadzono w dwóch etapach. Pierwszy z nich polegał na pomiarach i analizie poziomu hałasu w wyznaczonych punktach pomiarowych pod ścieżką odlotową z progu pasa RWY30. Druga część badań skupiła się na ocenie poziomu percepcji okolicznych mieszkańców za pomocą badań kwestionariuszowych. W końcowej części artykułu sprecyzowano wnioski z pomiarów dokonanych obiema metodami badawczymi.
    Article concerns the assessment of the acoustic climate around the military airport Poznan-Krzesiny. The research was conducted in two stages. The first one was based on the measurement and analysis of noise levels measured at designated points under the path departing from the runway threshold RWY30. The second part of the research focused on assessing the level of perception of the local population as a result of research questionnaire. In the final part of the article prepared conclusions from the measurements.

    Society is continuously impacted by accelerating technical and social changes that challenge individuals, organizations, and societies. This appears to lead to the emergence of negative organizational behavior patterns that impose high levels of demands on employees. Firstly, the purpose of this study is to qualitatively examine how three organizational challenges—organizational anorexia, organizational greed, and organizational narcissism—are expressed in the Swedish public sector. Secondly, the Swedish Armed Forces and the field of elderly care are compared to discover additional organizational challenges by carrying out comparisons. The sample of organizations used is described in the Methods section. The study’s main findings show that these three organizational challenges have been experienced in different ways in these organizations. A new organizational challenge has appeared, organizational temporality, describing participants’ perceptions of time when carrying out their assigned tasks.

    One of the most endangering and challenging threats during recent warfare are explosions of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and their destructive influence on a light armoured vehicle. Providing sufficient protection is the most challenging issue which can be achieved thanks to complex studies and a proper design process. The article presents preliminary numerical analyses of side explosion near a special military vehicle with regards to newdeveloped standards. The results were used to modify the existing hull and enhance its protection capabilities against critical charge to provide better protection for personnel inside the vehicle. A numerical model was developed in LSPrePost software. All the computational analyses were carried out using an explicit LS-Dyna solver, where material properties of finite elements were described by the Johnson-Cook material model with the basic parameters specified in the standard tensile tests. Due to time consuming simulations, the Linux-based computational cluster was adopted. The setup (mass of the explosive, distance between explosive charge and vehicle, etc.) was taken from military codes. In their computational research, the authors performed also a kind of a sensitivity study changing some of parameters. Pressure, stress distribution and plastic deformations vehicle structure were analyzed.

    The following paper reviews the schemes of memory behind the shaping of the contemporary vision of the Czech’s own history and the forms they take while materialising in the contemporary Czech Republic. Among the “great narratives” to have built up the picture of Czech history, a leading role was assumed by a traditional model, that sees the Czechs as a nation on the border of Slavic and Germanic superethnoses. Simultaneously, attention was drawn to its reformation and modernisation potential and Slavic character, the latter of which intensified after having confronted the Germanic world. The Czech post-1989 settlement with its communist past has only slightly impaired this idiom of memory; Soviet domination, especially the Warsaw Pact intervention in 1968, has to a great extent depreciated the value of “Slavicness” as an element of identification of the Czechs. Also, a Czech sense of nationality has faded to the benefit of a sense of “citizenship”—with the latter understood in a broad sense. Czech state institutions have only to a limited extent been committed to researching some details of the politics of history. Among these organisations have been, for example, the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes (Ústav pro studium totalitních režimů, ÚSTR), the Military History Institute (Vojenský historický ústav, VHÚ) and some other bodies, including the Czech National Museum (Národní muzeum). When analysing the responsibilities shouldered by the above institutions, one may observe an influential yet financially inadequate role of some NGOs, such as Pamět národa (The Memory of Nation) whereas a typical narrative pattern of Czechness has found its place in the educational system. As for the legal perspective, the Czech Republic managed to settle accounts with its communist past by passing both the Lustration Act and the Act on the Period of Lack of Freedom.
