    Opis:
    Priest Paweł Mikulski was born on 16 August 1896 in Plebanówka in the Borderlands. After graduating from the Faculty of Theology at the Theological Seminary in Lviv, he was ordained a priest by Archbishop Józef Bilczewski. In the years 1921-1945, he ministered to three parishes in the Stanisławów province. Together with parishioners, he left for the Regained Territories in the Opole diocese. He was then transferred to the bishop’s curia in Gorzów Wlkp. In the years 1947-1960, he was the administrator and parish priest of the parish of Saint John the Baptist in Międzyrzecz. On 22 August 1960, he retired at the age of 64. He settled as a resident priest in Chojna, where he died on 20 June 1977. The pastoral service of Rev. Paweł Mikulski coincided with the most difficult period of growing tensions and open repression of the communist authorities against the Church and him. The Department for Denominational Affairs of the State Security Office constantly kept Rev. Mikulski under surveillance. He is remembered by the inhabitants of Międzyrzecz as a committed priest who understood his parishioners.

    This paper presents Stanisław Mikulski’s (one of the most popular Polish actors) relations with Russia. These include, among many others, his work as a young actor in the plays written by Russian writers and playwrights, which were staged in the Juliusz Osterwa Theatre in Lublin, his most famous role as a Russian secret agent – codename J-23 – both in television theatre and the TV series More Than Life at Stake (Stawka większa niż życie), and his participation in six Russian films. Moreover, Mikulski worked as the director in the Centre of Information and Polish Culture in Moscow, thus contributing to Polish-Russian cultural relations.

The use of archival photographs of the capital, old postcards, and computer reconstructions using 3D technology increase the realism of the presentation, and provide the effect of intuition, intimacy, and directness.     Zofia and Władysław Jarema – the founders of the Groteska Theatre – from the beginning of their artitistic work in Krakow distanced themselves from perceiving the theatre of dolls as exclusively children-oriented. By gathering around themselves a group of distinguished artists, they consistently and reasonably built up the repertoire and Groteska stage for the adult audience. In their search, they included Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński, Sławomir Mrożek, and Tadeusz Różewicz. This paper is an attempt at analysing and reconstructing the performance of Kartoteka (a drama by Różewicz), which was staged in Groteska Theatre (interpretation by Zofia Jarema, stage design by Kazimierz Mikulski) a few months after its Warsaw preview in the Drama Theatre. The author of the paper also discusses the type of influence which this performance and the Jaremas’ activity in general had on the contemporary theatre of dolls.

    In his book on Stanisław Pigoń, the author outlines the legend of an eminent humanist, literary historian, memoirist, editor, teacher and tutor of many generations of scholars of Polish literature. The narrative is based on his own recollections (as his student) and on extensive correspondence between the professor and Ignacy Chrzanowski, Roman Pollak, Julian Krzyżanowski, Tadeusz Mikulski, Czesław Zgorzelski, Maria Danilewiczowa, and Bishop Ignacy Świrski. This correspondence allows us to take a closer look at the complex problems that the emerging academic milieu of scholars of Polish studies was facing in the difficult postwar times. The volume concludes with a recently uncovered source material – letters of Professor Pigoń to Bishop Świrski – which reveals the secrets of his technique as a literary analyst of Part II of Dziady [Forefathers’ Eve] by Adam Mickiewicz.
