    Opis:
    The author discusses different uses of the mirror metaphor in philosophy, literature and aesthetics. On one hand, a mirror serves to talk about human empowerment and inner life, while on the other becoming one of the most important metaphors of truth, of proper representation of reality. The final part of the paper considers the practical location of mirrors – and the practice of mirroring as the basis for other philosophical and existential metaphors. The author treats the mirror not only as a metaphor but also as an artefact with its own history: the history of an object but also social and economic history. By taking into account this physical history of mirrors, we can observe the changing foundation of epistemological and aesthetic metaphors.

    At the foundation of systematic thinking lie decisive assumptions that cannot be articulated and treated in a theoretical manner. Nonetheless, they are settled practically and metaphorically to orient and provoke the systematic attempts of philosophy. This field of non-theoretical assumptions is the theme of this paper. In the following, I articulate one specific metaphorical and practical answer that defies theoretical and systematic treatment. While it is among the most fundamental and fatal answers that can ever be ventured in the entire field of systematic thinking, they cannot occupy center-stage in theoretical thinking. The problematic concerns the pragmatic or absolute establishment of the edifice of philosophy. In the following, I try to portray a fundamental but irresolvable conflict in a back-and-forth movement between rival answers given to this problematic. This investigation concludes by emphasizing the irremediable failure to settle, once and for all, the conflict portrayed between the two opposed designations of philosophy in principle.

    Opis:
    The main purpose of this article is to provide biblical scholarship with a broad hermeneutical framework concerning the cognitive dimension of metaphorical phenomena. According to current research, metaphor is a tool of knowledge, a way through which the human mind conceptualizes reality. Despite the fact that Cognitive Linguistics (CL) is generally credited with bringing the cognitive dimension of metaphor to light, the discovery of this dimension is by no means recent. This article will show that it already appeared in Aristotle’s work, was blurred in Classical Rhetoric by a more aesthetic perspective, reappeared at the very beginning of the modern age, and finally became dominant in the 20th century. CL is therefore the result of a long tradition that has the merit of clarifying the cognitive mechanisms of metaphorical processes. Its theoretical and methodological model currently represents the reference point for studies on daily and literary metaphors, shedding new light on biblical metaphors. This article shows how CL can be beneficial for biblical exegesis by analysing Song 8:10 in light of this approach.

    Opis:
    Polish Hegelians are one of the most important philosophical groups in Poland in the 19th century. Their work, today overshadowed by the accomplishments of famous Romantic poets, is still an interesting object of theoretical literary research. The treatises they wrote are characterized by extraordinary literariness, concerning both poetic language (numerous metaphors, or comparisons) and narrative orderliness, Culler’s “unusual composition of words (rollrock)”. Hence, the idea to analyse Cieszkowski’s, Kremer’s and Libelt’s writings. My considerations fit into a hermeneutic interpretative key, which allows me to interpret this type of work as a message from the past, at the same time defining the future. I refer to the following categories: dialogue culture, critical reading, rhetoric and intertextuality.
    Polscy hegliści stanowią jedną z najważniejszych grup filozoficznych w Polsce XIX wieku. Ich twórczość, dziś pozostająca w cieniu dokonań słynnych wieszczów romantycznych, jest jednak interesującym obiektem badań teoretycznoliterackich. Pisane przez nich traktaty odznaczają się niezwykłą literackością, przez którą należy rozumieć zarówno poetycki język (nasycenie tekstu rozlicznymi metaforami, czy porównaniami), jak i narracyjne uporządkowanie, Cullerowskie, „niezwykłe złożenia słów (rollrock)”. Stąd pomysł, by literaturoznawczej analizie poddać pisma Augusta Cieszkowskiego, Józefa Kremera i Karola Libelta. Rozważania wpisuję w hermeneutyczny klucz interpretacyjny, który pozwala mi na odczytywanie tego typu twórczości jako komunikatu z przeszłości, zarazem określającego przyszłość. Odwołuję się do kategorii takich jak: kultura dialogu, czytanie krytyczne, retoryczność i intertekstualność.
