Opis:
Mekong Delta is an area with an important position in the socio-economic development of Vietnam. However, due to the impact of climate change as well as of the construction of hydroelectric dams in the upstream of the Mekong River in recent years, saline intrusion and flooding have been occurred because of high tide. According to published researches, the Mekong Delta is being experienced surface subsidence with a rate of up to centimeters per year, that exacerbates the impact of saline intrusion and flooding. Thus, studying to establish the surface subsidence map is an urgent need in this site. There are many of technologies to create the vertical movement map such as: Levelling, INSAR, GNSS, etc. Up to now, there are no scientific reports on the application of GNSS to monitor the vertical movement in this area. In this paper, the authors have calculated the largest vertical displacement velocity up to 3cm/year based on processing GNSS observations of nearly 20 GNSS monitoring station in the area using Bernese software. From these results, the research team has made the vertical movement map of Mekong, Vietnam.

thermosteric sea-level rise
Opis:
The Mekong Delta is sinking and shrinking. This is because of the absolute sea-level rise, and because of the subsidence of the land. The absolute sea-level rise originates from the thermal expansion of the ocean waters and the melting of ice on land, plus other factors including changes in winds and ocean circulation patterns. The subsidence originates from the construction of dams in the river basin upstream of the Delta, that has dramatically reduced the flow of water and sediments, and excessive groundwater withdrawal, plus other factors including riverbed mining, infrastructural extension, and urbanization. The origin of alluvial delta created by a continuous supply of water and sediments and the natural subsidence of uncompacted soils is relevant background information to understand the current trends. Another factor affecting the sinking and shrinking include the degradation of the coastal mangrove belt. It is concluded that the subsidence due to the reduced flow of sediments and water, and the withdrawal of groundwater more than the replenishment of aquifers is more than one order of magnitude larger than the absolute sea-level rise estimated by satellite and climate models, or the value estimated from tide gauges, that is much less. The current sinking and shrinking trends are not sustainable, as the low-lying Delta may disappear before the end of this century.

Opis:
The manufacturing of Catfish products has been developed rapidly in the Mekong delta. Every year, about 1.2 million tons of Catfish and 150,000 tons of biofuel are produced. The biofuel B100 manufactures in Mekong delta satisfies the America standard ASTM D6751; EURO EN 14214 or Vietnamese standard TCVN 7717. Mekong delta, a lower land area, has a large inland water way system with around 100.000 river boats that operate with marine diesel engine. Using the biofuel for the marine diesel engine in area will reduce the HC, CO, SOx and NOx emission to the environment. Therefore, with a study on applying the catfish biofuel, it will reduce the climate change by the increasing of sea water level and save energy by using green energy to replace petrol oil.
