The aim of this paper is to analyse Twitter activity of Prime Ministers of Poland and of the Czech Republic, Mateusz Morawiecki and Andrej Babiš respectively, during the 2019 European Parliament election campaign with the special focus on their ways of creating, imposing and reproducing the campaign discourse. It examines especially the person-alization of the election campaign, namely using the election-related activities to promote their image. Also, the im-portance of hashtags as a strategy for building discursive styles is explored and ways of using political pretexts e.g. the Europe Day to introduce election themes are compared. In this context the answer to the following question pre-sents itself as a research challenge: to what extent PMs’ tweets impact the course and the dynamics of the campaign and to what extent it is just dry information, a press commentary?

W artykule zaprezentowany został inwentarz księgozbioru należącego do biskupa diecezji lubelskiej Mateusza Wojakowskiego (1775-1845). Celem artykułu jest rekonstrukcja księgozbioru, tj. udostępnienie edycji inwentarza odbiorcom wraz ze wstępną analizą zawartości biblioteki. Inwentarz księgozbioru znajduje się w księdze notarialnej z 1845 r., wchodzącej w skład zespołu „Akta Serafina Konwickiego notariusza miasta Lublina” przechowywanego w Archiwum Państwowym w Lublinie. W tekście źródłowym zastosowane zostały zasady edycji zgodnie z Instrukcją wydawniczą dla źródeł historycznych od XVI do XIX wieku. Ponadto uzupełniono i wzbogacono dane bibliograficzne, ponieważ źródłowe informacje dotyczące posiadanych przez duchownego egzemplarzy książek były niepełne, gdyż pierwotnie służyły jedynie dla celów spadkowych. Ustalono pełny tytuł, nazwisko autora, miejsce, rok wydania w oparciu o dostępne bibliografie i katalogi biblioteczne. Poczynione ustalenia pozwolą na pełniejszą analizę zawartości domowej biblioteki biskupa. W inwentarzu liczącym 220 pozycji wymieniono łącznie 255 tytułów dzieł w 296 woluminach. Gromadzone książki były przede wszystkim w języku polskim, ponadto po łacinie, w języku francuskim i niemieckim. Domowy księgozbiór duchownego miał uniwersalny charakter. Zawierał książki i czasopisma z różnych dziedzin: ogólne, prawne, o edukacji, filozoficzne, z historii, geografii, słowniki, z nauk przyrodniczych i stosowanych, literaturę piękną. Ważną część stanowiły druki religijne, w tym księgi liturgiczne, kazania, katechizmy, modlitewniki, Biblia, rozmyślania. Inwentarz księgozbioru biskupa Wojakowskie go – postaci wyróżniającej się nie tylko na polu działalności duszpasterskiej, ale i obywatelskiej – nie był dotychczas znany i wykorzystywany w literaturze. Jest to także przykład inwentarza XIX-wiecznego księgozbioru należącego do duchownego.
The article presents an inventory of the book collection owned by the bishop of the Lublin diocese, Mateusz Wojakowski (1775-1845). The aim of the article is to reconstruct the book collection, i.e., to make the edition of the inventory available to recipients along with an initial analysis of the library’s content. The inventory of the book collection can be found in a notarial register from 1845, which is part of „Records of Seraph Konwicki, a notary of the city of Lublin” kept in the State Archives in Lublin. In the source text, editing principles were applied in accordance with the Publishing Instructions for historical sources from the 16th to 19th century. Additionally, bibliographic data was supplemented and enriched, because the source information about the copies of books owned by the clergyman was incomplete, as they were originally used only for inheritance purposes. The full title, author’s name, place and year of publication were established on the basis of available bibliographies and library catalogues. The findings will allow for a more comprehensive analysis of the contents of the bishop’s home library. The inventory of 220 items lists a total of 255 titles of works in 296 volumes. The collected books were mainly in Polish, and additionally also in Latin, French and German. The clergyman’s home book collection was of universal character. It included books and magazines in various fields: general, law, education, philosophy, history, geography, dictionaries, natural and applied sciences, and belles-lettres. Religious prints constituted an important part, including liturgical books, sermons, catechisms, prayer books, the Bible, and meditations. The inventory of the book collection of Bishop Wojakowski – a figure distinguished not only in the field of pastoral but also civic activity – has remained unknown and unused in literature so far. It is also an example inventory of a 19th-century book collection belonging to a clergyman.

Początek drugiej połowy XVIII wyznaczył stuletni okres dominacji budownictwa kanałowego w rozwoju transportu, znacznie przyczyniając się do przemysłowej rewolucji i współczesnego kształtu świata zachodniego. W kulturze materialnej wyznaczył też początek nowożytnej inżynierii cywilnej. Wielu budowniczych kanałów podjęło dalsze wyzwania inicjując w kolejnym stuleciu etap dominacji transportu kolejowego. W tych samych latach kiedy Francis Egerton, Trzeci Książę Bridgewater, z Jamesem Brindleyem zbudowali kanał do Manchester, rozpętując w Anglii manię kanałową (1761) i kiedy zegarmistrz Francois Zacharia samotnie uporał się z problemami koncesji, rozpoczynając pracę przy francuskim kanale „dwóch mórz” (1763), Wielki Książę Litewski, wojewoda wileński Michał Kazimierz Ogiński w 1765 roku podjął się patronatu nad budową 50-kilometrowego Kanału Telechańskiego (dzisiaj Ogińskiego, Aginskiego) na Polesiu. Roli Wielkiego Brindleya w tym przypadku podjął się oficjalista Księcia, Mateusz Butrymowicz. Do 1788 roku budował na poleskich bagnach groble i drogi, a na bagnistych terenach zalewowych stworzył folwark o oryginalnej strukturze agrarnej i logistycznej. Odznaczył się ożywioną aktywnością parlamentarną na rzecz reform gospodarczych, finansów oraz budowy infrastruktury transportowej. Okres kolejnych wojen i upadku Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów na przełomie wieków doprowadziły do zniszczenia materialnych śladów jego działalności. W artykule przedstawia się rezultat studiów oraz hipotezy dotyczące ich kształtu, lokalizacji oraz metod i technologii budowy.
The beginning of the second half of the 18th century was the onset of a hundred-year-long era in the development of transportation dominated by canal construction, which contributed to industrial revolution and the contemporary structure of the western world. In the sphere of material culture it was also the formative time of the modern civil engineering. In the subsequent century many constructors took the challenge and initiated the stage of railroad transport domination. At the time when Francis Egerton, the 3rd Duke of Bridgewater, together with James Brindley constructed the canal to Manchester (the Bridgewater Canal), thus unleashing a real ‘canal-mania’ in England (1761), and when the watchmaker Francois Zacharia alone overcame the concession problems and embarked on drilling the ‘Two-Seas Canal’ (1763), Michał Kazimierz Ogiński, the Grand Duke of Lithuania and the Voivode of Vilnius, in 1765 took the patronage over the construction of a 50-kilometre Telechany Canal (today known as the Oginski Canal) in the Polesie region. The role of ‘Great Brindley’ was played by one of the Grand Duke’s officials – Mateusz Butrymowicz. Up until 1788 he went on constructing the roads and causeways across the Polesie swamps, and in the marshy floodplains he created a farm of a very original agrarian and logistic structure. He distinguished himself as a very active member of parliament vouching for economic and financial reforms as well as for the construction of transportation infrastructure. Due to the subsequent wars and the fall of the Republic of Both Nations (the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth) at the turn of the 18th and 19th century, the traces of his material activity have been wasted. This article presents results of research and the hypotheses concerning the form, location, methods and technologies used in his constructions.

The article attempts to analyze the verbal means of persuasion appearing in the statements of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on the coronavirus pandemic. The material selected for analysis includes statements from the period: 14.03.2020-08.03.2022. The start date is the day of declaring the state of epidemic emergency in Poland, and the final date – refers to the statements from the first week of the state’s operation after the lifting of most sanitary restrictions.The method of linguistic analysis of lexical and grammatical planes was used, with particular emphasis on persuasive means implementing 4 rhetorical mechanisms according to Stanisław Barańczak.

This article, dealing in parallel with The Book of Zechariah and The Gospel of Mathew, is focused on the similarity of ideas and expressions common to both books. It concentrates on an analysis of the biblical text and the most significant allusions, highlighting the connection between the prophesies of Zechariah and their use in Matthew. In the Gospel, that which comes from Zechariah is focused upon Jesus, who is depicted as a humble king who redeems his people and is presented like an abandoned shepherd. The language and concepts through which Jesus is described are closer to the Hebrew thoughts than to Greek concepts.
Artykuł koncentruje się na problematyce cytatów z Księgi Zachariasza obecnych w Ewangelii Mateusza oraz na głównych aluzjach, które nawiązują do proroctw Zachariasza. Wizje, które opisuje Zachariasz, i jego wezwania do nawrócenia i posłuszeństwa Bogu są ważnym elementem w nauczaniu Jezusa, który przypomina, że to grzech i nieposłuszeństwo Bogu sprowadzają nieszczęścia, a niepohamowane ambicje doprowadzają do rozlewu krwi niewinnych osób. Bóg chce cały czas wszystkich przyciągnąć do siebie z najbardziej oddalonych stron świata dzięki osobie Zbawiciela. W Ewangelii Mateusza Jezus wjeżdża do świątyni jak król, który przynosi pokój i harmonię, który sam jest cichy i pokorny. Mateusz opisuje tę scenę, wykorzystując fragment z Zachariasza, i przytacza go w tłumaczeniu, które jest bliższe Biblii Hebrajskiej niż Septuagincie. Jezus przynosi nowe prawo, które, wypływając z wiary, cechuje się miłością i miłosierdziem. Zapowiadając własną śmierć, Jezus przepowiada także rozproszenie uczniów. Będzie ono jednak tylko chwilowe, bo przez swoją mękę, śmierć i zmartwychwstanie Jezus znów ponownie przyciągnie wszystkich do siebie. Jezus ponownie stanie się pasterzem, który gromadzi rozproszone i zagubione owce. Obrazy, cytaty i aluzje zaczerpnięte z Zachariasza Ewangelista adaptuje i dostosowuje do konkretnej sytuacji, ale zachowuje przy tym idee przekazywane przez tekst hebrajski. Przez nawiązanie do Księgi Zachariasza Mateusz kładzie akcent na mesjańską, zbawczą i ponadczasową misję Jezusa.

The Polish post-release assistance system for prisoners suffers from multiple dysfunctions, such as formalization, excessive bureaucracy, low flexibility, and a chronic shortage of funds. Attempts have been made to solve these issues by departing from a standard set of measures, introducing changes to the funding mechanism, improving personnel training, and ensuring a higher level of openness to more innovative measures. The first part of this paper describes the operations of the ‘Mateusz’ Re-adaptation Centre in Toruń, with a special focus on the ‘Dąbrowski method’ and on positive adaptation, which constitute the basis of the Centre’s activities and are referred to as ‘initial post-release prisoner assistance.’ The second part of the paper presents the concept of social laboratories, through which the theoretical concepts of ‘resilience’ and ‘empowerment’ will be used to conduct a two- or three-year-long research at the Centre to prepare a proposal for reforming the Polish post-release assistance system and ensure improved flexibility, beneficiary empowerment and, above all, greater effectiveness in the rehabilitation process.

This article concerns medicinal preparations from the first European pharmacopoeia listed on the cartouches of apothecary majolica vessels (16 th‒18th century) from the Grabowski collection at the Museum of Pharmacy in Kraków. The materials for comparison are three 16th-century works: Ricettario Fiorentino (1550), Pharmacopoea by J. Placotomus (1560) and Dispensatorium by V. Cordus (1563). The inscriptions on the apothecary jars for which they were meant comprise greatly important information carriers about medicine in the old days. Their deciphering can also be helpful when dating these objects.
