    Article discusses linguistic conceptualisations of autoerotic activities-sexual sphere rejected culturally and linguistically, mostly in European culture. Analyses of particular linguistic forms taken from dictionaries and the Internet, are based on a broad cultural and ideological background according to methodological principles of cultural linguistics. There was especially shown an influence of religion and ideology, locating sexual activities in the field of medicine. Those discourses still “command” semiotically and linguistically of the term of autoerotism. Analysis of collected verbal constructions has shown that semantic field of autoerotism contains following elements: 1. official names (found in dictionaries); 2. Socially fixed neutral euphemisms; 3. fixed periphrases with different degree of formality (from vulgar, through colloquial and in everyday use to those used jokingly); 4. periphrases created on occasions which are the most common, also with different degree of formality.

    Masturbacja jako zagadnienie naukowe nadal budzi kontrowersje. Autor niniejszego artykułu prezentuje ten temat w szerokim kontekście współczesnej psychologii, pedagogiki i innych dyscyplin wiedzy zajmujących się ludzką egzystencją. Moralny wymiar masturbacji musi być rozpatrywany świetle problematyki ludzkiego bycia, ponieważ tylko w takiej perspektywie można stworzyć uzasadnioną opinię o tej delikatnej kwestii.
    Masturbation is still a controversial issue among researchers. The author shows that modern psychology, pedagogy and other disciplines dealing with the human being try to perceive masturbation in a wider, anthropological context. Therefore, moral assessment of masturbation has to based on a comprehensive approach to the human being, because only in such a perspective one can form justifiable judgments on such delicate matters.

    In every society, there is socially constructed dominant, highly valued, and eagerly gratified model of sexuality of men and women which could be named gender grata. Gender non grata means all that stays in opposition to the main stream, widely legitimized sexual behaviour. The extremum of gender non grata seems to change. It depends on complex social dynamics rooted in religion, science, various groups of interests, and engagement of moral crusaders. Some time ago, this extremum was represented by masturbation; currently, pathological epicenter is occupied by pedophilia. This phenomenon can be placed and analyzed within various frames of reference. The one used in this article is labeled as moral panic.

    In this text we present part of two complex researches. First research was orientated to constructing of sexual biographies and identification of attitudive microdiscourses in area of sexuality (also moral) and their discursive sources. Second research was orientated to sexual lifestyles and their socio-cultural contexts of men and women in Slovakia and Czech Republic. In text we present only results which concern to masturbation behavior and we analyze them from the point of view implication to sexual morality in present time.

    The article attempts to describe homoerotic and non-heteronormative motifs mainly in Witkacy’s novels and, in a limited way, also in his plays (The Beelzebub Sonata and Maciej Korbowa and Bellatrix). The author refers to categories of bi-curiousness, semi-vir, abjection and phantasmal scenario, tracking the relation between decadence as ideology and decadence as homosexuality, and stating a thesis that Witkacy was a queer writer. The homoerotic scenes analyzed by the author, bearing similarities in structure and language, are described as representing two separate “phantasmal scenarios” in Witkacy’s literary imagination.

    In this text we present part of one research about sexual lifestyles and their socio-cultural contexts which related to solo sex activities of asked men and women in Czech Republic and Slovakia. We are monitoring factors as sex, age (younger, middle and older adult age), preference of moral values in sexual and partnerships relations, sexual satisfaction, and we compare also answer differences of all participants of this research in Slovakia and Czech Republic in connection to masturbation behavior. We analyze results in terms of implication for sexual morality in present time.

    The paper deals with saturation sexual needs in people with intellectual disabilities through masturbation. The authors present a partial research findings about masturbation clients in terms of professional social service workers in Slovakia, which indicate their acceptance and tolerance. With these expressions of culture through sex education and enlightenment, however, encountered only rarely. In terms of moral assessment, the author further reflect on the appropriateness or inappropriateness of the behavior. Emphasize the necessity of advising persons with intellectual disabilities themselves and professionals working with these people.

    Onanizm niemowlęcy, zwany również masturbacją dziecięcą lub zespołem gratyfikacji, należy do prawidłowych zachowań występujących w czasie rozwoju człowieka. Masturbacja w okresie niemowlęcym i wczesnodziecięcym może przybierać różne formy. Ze względu na częsty brak bezpośredniej stymulacji narządów płciowych bywa błędnie diagnozowana m.in. jako padaczka, proksymalne dyskinezy, bóle brzucha czy dystonie, przez co dzieci narażane są na szereg zbędnych i obciążających badań. Dla odmiany dość często pomija się możliwość występowania zaburzeń i chorób współistniejących, które mogą prowokować lub nasilać onanizowanie się dziecka. W artykule szczegółowo omówiono zagadnienie onanizmu w okresie niemowlęcym i wczesnodziecięcym w kontekście procesu diagnostycznego oraz leczenia z uwzględnieniem dostępnych wyników badań dotyczących masturbacji niemowląt i dzieci.
    Infantile onanism, also known as masturbation or gratification syndrome, is a part of the normal behavior during the development. Masturbation in infancy and early childhood may take many forms. Because of the lack of direct stimulation of the genitals it is sometimes misdiagnosed as an epilepsy, a proximal dyskinesia, an abdominal pain or a dystonia. Children are exposed to a number of unnecessary and aggravating examinations. On the other hand, the possibility of coexisting disorders and diseases that may intensify child masturbation is quite often ignored. The article explains in detail the issue of masturbation in infancy and early childhood in the context of the diagnostic process and treatment and includes the results of research on infantile masturbation.

    Przedmiotem badań uczyniono rzadko dotąd poruszany w badaniach historyczno-pedagogicznych problem masturbacji dziecięcej. Cezury czasowe podjętych analiz obejmują II połowę XIX i początek XX wieku. Podstawę źródłową dokonanych ustaleń stanowią poradniki wychowawcze (w tym religijne), a także z zakresu higieny i lecznictwa, wydane drukiem na terenie ziem polskich w badanym okresie. Celem badań jest próba systematyki poglądów poświęconych kluczowemu zagadnieniu, prezentowanych przez autorów poradników (pedagogów i wychowawców, lekarzy, księży) oraz ukazanie ich ewolucji. Jak wynika z dokonanych ustaleń, w większości badanych poradników onania traktowana była w kategoriach nadużycia płciowego, prowadzącego do poważnych chorób, a w konsekwencji śmierci. W ujęciu poradników religijno-wychowawczych rozumiano ją w kategorii grzechu śmiertelnego. Treści porad skupiły się na tym, jak rozpoznawać symptomy onanii u dzieci i jak jej skutecznie zapobiegać. Szczególną rolę we wskazanych zakresach działań odgrywali rodzice. Podkreślić należy, że na początku XX wieku zaczęły się pojawiać prace (głównie autorstwa osób ze środowiska medycznego) uświadamiające, że masturbacja nie jest aż tak niebezpieczną praktyką, za jaką ją przez wieki uznawano, zaś uprawiana z umiarem w żaden sposób nie wpływa na stan zdrowia osoby ją praktykującej, jednak nadal sugerowano strzec dzieci przed tym niemoralnym występkiem.
    The issue of childhood masturbation, rarely addressed up to now in historical and pedagogical studies, is the subject of the research presented here. The demarcatory timelines for the analysis carried out encompass the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century. Our source material is educational handbooks (including religious ones), as well as those related to hygiene and health care, published in printed form on Polish territory in the period under consideration. The aim of the research is to systematize the views on this issue offered by the authors of those works (teachers and educators, doctors, priests), and to present their evolution. As those findings indicate, in most of the guides, masturbation was treated as a form of sexual self-abuse, leading to serious diseases and, consequently, to death. In religious and educational handbooks it was placed in the category of being a mortal sin. The contents of the advice given focused on how to recognize the symptoms of masturbation in children, and how to prevent it effectively. Parents were to play a special role in the courses of action recommended. It should be emphasized that it was only at the beginning of the 20th century that works (developed mainly in medical circles) began to appear, aimed at making people aware that masturbation was not as dangerous as it had been thought to be over the preceding centuries, and that, when practised in moderation, it did not affect the health of the person practising it in any way. It was still suggested, however, that children be protected from falling victim to what was considered a morally offensive activity.
