The article indicates the features of space ascribed to the literary protagonists who can be regarded as outsiders. Three types of figures of an “outsider out of necessity” have been selected: a rogue/scoundrel, a homosexual and a chav. For each of these figures—and they are characteristic for the Polish latest prose—distinctive dominant space is attributed, which defines, in different ways, and simultaneously brings out the limiting one-dimensionality and, tragic in its expression, the seclusion associated with the condition of “outsiders out of necessity”. With reference to a rogue/scoundrel especially important is flattening (certain “one-dimensionality”) of the disintegrating landscape. In the case of homosexuals there dominates a closed space of one’s own house (flat). For chavs, in turn, characteristic are labyrinth-like districts of urban ghettos.

Opis:
The article concerns the possibilities to assess the effectiveness of bank services basing on an analysis of their interest margins, and its aim is to show the informational capacity of those measures. The first part of the article discusses theoretical issues related to setting various types of interest margins and on their basis specifying interest margin discrepancies. Then results of empirical research are presented which were conducted basing on the data from quarterly financial reports of selected WSE listed banks in 1998-2009. The analysis covered the shaping of all the discussed values in time, both for the bank sector as a whole and in relation to particular banks.

The distinction between arguments and margins within a simple nuclear sentence is sharp at conceptual level in that it is grounded in explicit relevance criteria: arguments are saturated referential noun phrases that are essential for the integrity of the process; different layers of margins enrich different kinds of processes according to different consistency requirements. If one observes the syntactic structure of linguistic expressions, on the other hand, the same distinction seems to shade into a sort of continuum owing to two orders of factors. First, there is a cleavage between the model sentence, whose main function should be the expression of the process, and the utterances actually documented in texts and corpora, whose structure is shaped by the incommensurate function to adapt the structure of the process to the communicative dynamism of a text. Moreover, within the model sentence itself, the coding regime of arguments and the coding regime of margins shadow into one another: some margins are coded, like arguments, through formal grammatical relations, while some arguments are coded, like margins, directly as conceptual relations through a set of forms of expression motivated by their conceptual content.In spite of these obstacles, the conceptual distinction between arguments and margins and the hierarchy of margins can be identified at the level of model sentence thanks to adequate and differentiated criteria. These criteria are formal where the difference of coding regime draws a sharp formal distinction between arguments and margins, and conceptual and textual where the structure of the forms of expression neutralises the distinction. Conceptual and textual criteria also make the identification of a clear hierarchy of margins possible.

Nowadays in radiotherapy, much effort is taken to minimize the irradiated volume and consequently minimize doses to healthy tissues. In our work, we tested the hypothesis that the mean dose distribution calculated from a few fi rst fractions can serve as prediction of the cumulated dose distribution, representing the whole treatment. We made our tests for 25 prostate cancer patients treated with three orthogonal fi elds technique. We did a comparison of dose distribution calculated as a sum of dose distribution from each fraction with a dose distribution calculated with isocenter shifted for a mean setup error from a few fi rst fractions. The cumulative dose distribution and predicted dose distributions are similar in terms of gamma (3 mm 3%) analysis, under condition that we know setup error from seven fi rst fractions. We showed that the dose distribution calculated for the original plan with the isocenter shifted to the point, defi ned as the original isocenter corrected of the mean setup error estimated from the fi rst seven fractions supports our hypothesis, i.e. can serve as a prediction for cumulative dose distribution.

In the pres ent pa per I de scribe Daph nia shell mar gins and some tail spines from the Holo cene sedi ments of a lake in south ern Fin land where the mar gins were much more abun dant than the postab dominal claws, in di cat ing that postab domi nal claws may be un der rep re sented. Daph nia claws, shell mar gins and tail spines were found also in sur face sam ples of 17 Fin nish lakes and thus the abun dance of tail spines could be com pared with that of postab domi nal claws. The re sults showed that in most cases the tail spines are more abun dant than postab domi - nal claws and may give a closer es ti mate of the true abun dance of Daph nia. How ever, in some lakes claws were clearly more fre quent than tail spines. This essay aims to rethink concepts such as ideology, agency and resistance in order to problematise how these are being instrumentalised by nation states to create hierarchical differentiating categories under the umbrella of citizenship. In order to address the idea of otherness that sustains the discourses that have been generated around citizenship as an element that not only legitimises the existing system, but also the identities and subjectivities that may or may not form part of the enunciated norm. Through this journey, other ways of approaching these concepts from and for the identities of the margins will be presented, with the intention not to enunciate new truths or definitions of the concepts addressed, but to try to make visible the existing gaps in the system and how we can build on and thanks to these „borders”.
Celem niniejszego eseju jest ponowne przemyślenie takich pojęć jak ideologia, sprawczość i opór, aby sproblematyzować sposób, w jaki są one instrumentalizowane przez państwa narodowe w celu stworzenia hierarchicznych kategorii różnicujących pod pojęciem obywatelstwa. Aby zająć się ideą inności, która podtrzymuje dyskursy powstałe wokół obywatelstwa jako elementu nie tylko legitymizującego istniejący system, ale także tożsamości i podmiotowości, które mogą, ale nie muszą, stanowić część głoszonej normy. W trakcie tej podróży zaprezentowane zostaną inne sposoby podejścia do tych pojęć z punktu widzenia tożsamości z marginesu, bez zamiaru głoszenia nowych prawd czy definicji omawianych pojęć, ale z zamiarem podjęcia próby uwidocznienia istniejących luk w systemie oraz tego, jak możemy budować na tych „granicach” i dzięki nim.

This paper analyzes the determinants of banks’ net interest margins in Honduras during the years 1998 to 2013 – a period characterized by increasing banks’ net interest margins, foreign bank participation and consolidation. In line with findings in the previous literature, we find that operating costs are the most important drivers of banks’ net interest margins. We also find that competition among banks has led to higher concentration and that funding by parent banks positively impacts foreign banks’ net interest margins. Together, these results suggest that banks, particularly foreign banks, are under pressure to consolidate and reduce operating costs in order to offer competitive interest margins. We conclude that further structural reforms and consolidation may lower banks’ net interest margins.

Subiect of the paper is the problem of predicting sea-going ship resistance and/or horsepower in real operating conditions. Attention is drawn first of all to the need and possibility of revising the very much outdated but still used "service margin" method, which consists in adding an arbitrary percentage margin to the value of resistance or horsepower, relatively precisely determined for the calm water conditions. A negative impact in this respect is shown of the generally used delivery-acceptance procedures, where particular importance is attached to the ship propulsion tests on the "measured mile". The need of revising the "service margins" is a consequence of an obvious need for most efficient ships from the technical as well as economic point of view. Secondly, it is a "must" of permanent improving the ship design quality - the adequacy and accuracy of design methods. The work presents the "wave service margin" coefficient models. It is assumed that they may contribute to the necessary rationalization of the procedure of real ship resistance and/or horsepower determination. The work is based on the results of resistance tests of a series of ships designed within the Baltecologicalship project. The tests were carried out in the Chair of Ship Theory and Design of the Faculty of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology, Gdansk University of Technology.

The titled „margins” of the Polish as a foreign language textbooks can be the subjects which are less attractive, “worse” or sensitive (for example a poverty, a corruption, taboo), and also which concern the opposition own-foreign showing the second part of this opposition as a “worse”. These last margins should be avoided in the communicative textbooks, as they are based on the idea of an egalitarianism and individualism. However, the examples from the latest Polish as a foreign language textbooks which are presented in this paper prove it is not always successful. It is surely caused by the bias of the Polish nation which considers everything that is different or foreign to be simply the “worse”. It can also be said that the characteristic features of the Polish language are a christianism and xenophobia.

Centralni kontrpartnerzy po kryzysie finansowym 2007+ stali się jednymi z kluczowych dostarczycieli usług obsługi transakcji dokonywanych przez uczestników rynku finansowego. Podjęte inicjatywy w zakresie reformy rynku kapitałowego sprawiły, że coraz większa część transakcji rozliczana jest przez CCPs, co decyduje o ich rosnącym znaczeniu systemowym. Z tego względu coraz większego znaczenia nabierają mechanizmy stabilizowania sytuacji CCP w razie wystąpienia szoków. Klasycznym przykładem takiego rozwiązania jest kaskadowe pokrywanie strat w razie niewypłacalności członka rozliczającego CCP. W artykule odniesiono się również do najnowszych zagadnień związanych z ustanawianiem procesu resolution dla centralnych kontrpartnerów.
After recent financial crisis 2007+, central counterparties have become one of the key services providers for handling the transactions of financial market participants. The capital market reforms have resulted in the growing share of transactions that are cleared by the CCPs. For that reason, the activity of CCPs has gained systemic significance, i.e. problems in the functioning of CCPs can easily trigger the materialization of systemic risk and lead to a systemic crisis. As a consequence, reliable mechanisms for stabilizing the CCP’s situation become increasingly important in the event of shocks. A classic example of such a solution is the cascade of losses in the event of the insolvency of a CCP’s clearing member. The article deals also with the latest issues related to the resolution process for central counterparties.

This paper presents the results of a study examining whether empirical patterns and trends in international trade in services are in line with those for the international trade of goods. The author conducts static and dynamic analyses of Polish international trade in services using firm-level data. The results suggest that exports of services are dominated by large companies. Most of them have been on the market for a long time. Usually, they export one specific type of services to a single market. The value of service exports is growing due to the firms’ net intensive margin. All the results are similar to empirical observations made with respect to international trade in goods.
W artykule zawarto wyniki sprawdzenia, czy prawidłowości dotyczące funkcjonowania firm obecnych w handlu towarami, wynikające z teorii handlu międzynarodowego i badań empirycznych, występują również na rynku usług. Przeprowadzono statyczną i dynamiczną analizę międzynarodowego handlu usługami przy wykorzystaniu danych jednostkowych dla Polski. Wyniki badania wskazują, że w międzynarodowym handlu usługami największe znaczenie mają firmy duże, działające na rynku przez dłuższy czas. Najwięcej firm eksportuje jeden rodzaj usług w jednym kierunku. Wzrost wartości polskiego eksportu usług dokonuje się głównie przez kontynuowanie związków już istniejących (net intensive margin). Prawidłowości zaobserwowane dla polskiego handlu usługami są zgodne z wnioskami płynącymi z badań empirycznych dotyczących międzynarodowego handlu towarami.

In the postmodern period we are dealing with many manifestations of marginaliza-tion, the understanding of which requires the use of a different language and different categories than those employed during the high phase of modernity. Giving an axiological meaning to the manifestations of marginalization in art is a comparatively recent phenomenon, a product of modernity. Divisions of art before and after its autonomization occur according to different rules. The article recounts the views of J. Habermas, C. Greenberg, and J. F. Lyotard on the central and the marginal in art, and it asks the question about their usefulness today in analyzing the phenomena of the marginal. To understand the ongoing paradigmatic change it might be advisable to consider the reflections of D. Mersch, who points out the ambivalent status of the concept of art and the avant-garde, which permits us to vindicate other concepts, for example that of the rearguard (arrière-garde). The age of modernity produced and already partly overcame the totalizing discourse on art, which condemned whole areas of artistic activity to exclusion. The size of the margins seen from this perspective turns out to be variable and dynamic, which calls into question the practice of giving an axiological meaning to the concept. The arguments for the change in thinking that take place in late modernity is the positive appreciation of events and individual experiences, the phenomena of the ephemeral as understood by G. Böhme, and the return to the idea of the whole built on different foundations.
W epoce ponowoczesnej mamy do czynienia z wieloma przejawami marginalizacji, których zrozumienie domaga się użycia innego języka i innych kategorii niż w latach rozkwitu moder-nizmu. Nadanie aksjologicznego znaczenie przejawom marginalności w sztuce jest zjawiskiem stosunkowo młodym i jest wytworem modernizmu. Podziały w sztuce przed jej autonomizacją i po jej przekroczeniu przebiegają według innych zasad. W tekście przypomniano poglądy J. Habermasa, C. Greenberga, J.F. Lyotarda na temat tego, co w sztuce centralne i marginalne, by następnie zadać pytanie o ich przydatność do analizy zjawisk marginalności obecnie. Do zrozumienia dokonującej się zmiany paradygmatycznej pomocne być mogą refleksje D. Mer-scha, który zwraca uwagę na ambiwalentny status pojęcia sztuki i pojęcia awangardy, co po-zwala rehabilitować inne kategorie, jak na przykład pojęcie ariregrady. Epoka modernizmu wytworzyła i częściowo już przezwyciężyła totalizujące dyskursy o sztuce, które skazywały na wykluczenie całe obszary działalności artystycznej. Obszar marginesów widziany z tej per-spektywy okazuje się zmienny i dynamiczny, co stawia pod znakiem zapytania nadawanie znaczenia aksjologicznego pojęciu marginesów. Argumentami za dokonującą się zmianą w myś-leniu w okresie późnej nowoczesności jest pozytywne dowartościowanie zdarzeń i doświad-czeń jednostkowych, zjawisk efemeryczności, jak u G. Böhme, a także powrót do zbudowanej na innych podstawach idei całości.

"Aftermath", after-Gross and the fans of PolishnessAftermath was released in the late 2012. Its director, Władysław Pasikowski, had previously been famous for his violent action films with strong male protagonists. He has also written some of the most sexist dialogues in the history of Polish cinema, as well as a number of lines, often obscene, which have become catchphrases and slogans present every day in the pop culture.His latest film, however, tackles a completely different issue – this thriller-cum-western tells a story that is decidedly contemporary, but nevertheless inspired by the events that took place in Jedwabne (described by Jan Tomasz Gross in his book Neighbors). Aftermath does not attempt to provide a reconstruction of the events that took place “on the margins of the Holocaust” (including Jedwabne). However, it clearly hints at the issue of the Polish contribution to the extermination of Jews and the impact of the conspiracy of silence having been broken. The film gave rise to a heated debate, which rippled through the Polish media for as long as two months after its release. This article is an attempt to analyse and interpret the words and ideas that appeared in the debate. „Pokłosie”, poGrossie i kibice polskościWraz z końcem 2012 roku odbyła się premiera filmu fabularnego Pokłosie w reżyserii Władysława Pasikowskiego. Ten bardzo popularny polski reżyser znany był dotychczas przede wszystkim z mocnych filmów sensacyjnych o twardych mężczyznach. Zasłynął także jako autor bodaj najbardziej seksistowskich dialogów w polskim kinie oraz rozmaitych i częstokroć wulgarnych kwestii wypowiadanych przez bohaterów, z których wiele do dziś funkcjonuje w popkulturze na prawach popularnych cytatów.W swoim najnowszym filmie Pasikowski sięgnął jednak po zupełnie inny temat. W konwencji thrillera z elementami westernu opowiedział historię jak najbardziej współczesną, ale w zdecydowany spósob zainspirowaną wydarzeniami w Jedwabnem, opisanymi przez Jana Tomasza Grossa w książce Sąsiedzi. Pokłosie nie stanowi jednak próby faktograficznej rekonstrukcji tego, co działo się na „obrzeżach Zagłady”, w tym również w Jedwabnem, lecz jednoznacznie dotyka problemu polskiego współudziału w zagładzie Żydów i konsekwencji związanych ze złamaniem ukonstytuowanej wokół tego faktu społecznej zmowy milczenia. Film wywołał gorącą dyskusję, która toczyła się w ogólnopolskich mediach przez niemal dwa miesiące od jego premiery. Podstawowym celem artykułu jest próba analizy oraz interpretacji słów i myśli wypowiedzianych w czasie jej trwania.
