The theory of economics comprises a variety of approaches and schools of thought that result from the range and manner of analyzing economic reality. The diversity of methods used to asses economic processes encourages one to specify a certain number of research methods from the perspective of their essence and significance in the economic theory. The aim of the paper is to characterize selected aspects of economics in terms of the way in which economic processes are presented. The authors mention three perspectives: institutional, Austrian and neoclassical – all of them crucial for presenting the most important issues in the theory of economics. Obviously, the presented assessment of the importance of these approaches is selective and focuses solely on certain issues. It, nevertheless, seems interesting both because of the used instruments and of its theoretical value.

The ongoing processes in production enterprises must be constantly monitored and improved in order to meet the requirements of growing competition in the technical, technological and organizational aspects. Also, customer expectations regarding the quality of products are constantly increasing, while maintaining the lowest manufacturing costs. The analysis of the course of operations, exploited resources, materials, recharges, as well as the identification of risk and losses are the basis for improvement and optimization, leading to increase in process efficiency, as well as optimisation of organization and working conditions. There are many management methods and tools used to streamline processes. Currently, Lean Management (LM) is one of the most popular and effective concepts in this field. The primary goal of LM is to eliminate activities that do not bring added value in processes, while saving resources and meeting customer requirements. The Lean concept offers many useful methods and tools that, when properly selected in the organization, implemented and used, can bring the intended results. The aim of the article is to present the results of the analysis of potentially accidental events in a production enterprise based on the identification of key threats occurring in the plant. Based on Lean Management methods and tools implemented in the company, their impact on work safety was determined.

Risk management is an activity which integrates recognition of risk, risk assessment, developing strategies to manage it, and mitigation of risk using managerial resources. Some traditional risk managements are focused on risks stemming from physical or legal causes (e.g. natural disasters or fires, accidents, death). Financial risk management, on the other hand, focuses on risks that can be managed using traded financial instruments. Objective of risk management is to reduce different risks related to a pre-selected domain to an acceptable. It may refer to numerous types of threats caused by environment, technology, humans, organizations and politics. The paper describes the different steps in the risk management process which methods are used in the different steps, and provides some examples for risk and safety management.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza okresu ostatnich 35 lat. Okres lat 1980–1984 to czas, kiedy na Wydziale Zarządzania zmienił się program studiów z zakresu zastosowań informatyki w zarządzaniu. Rozwój systemów i technologii informatycznej jest dość mocno skorelowany ze zmianami metod zarządzania i struktur organizacyjnych. Celem artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytania: Jakim zmianom uległ system zarządzania, który musiał się dostosować się do coraz to powszechniejszego stosowania zarządzania projektowego i globalizacji zarządzania? Jakie w tym czasie nastąpiły zmiany w technologii informacyjnej?
The article is an analysis of the period of the last 35 years. The 1980–1984 period is the time when the Faculty of Management studies program changed as regards the application of informatics in management. In the 1980s, the computing center was also established. It was also a period of transformation of the management system and development of science. The development of systems and information technology is quite correlated with changes in management methods and organizational structures. This article attempts to answer the questions: What changes occurred in the system, which had to adapt to the increasingly widespread use of project management and management globalization? What changes occurred in information technology over that period?

The aim of the article is a presentation of the concept of The Business Model Canvas as a tool that supports the process management in the newly created organization and involvement in scientific discussion on the usefulness of such tools in practice. Model Canvas in the planning phase assists in the tasks and activities necessary to start operations in the initial phase helps in ensuring all the elements and from the perspective of annual activity helps determine the direction of development.

The aim of this article is to provide an answer to the question about the current state of advancement of computer-assisted translation tools. We assume that several decades of research in the field carried out by the EU institutions in the context of the European integration process have provided the most advanced computer-assisted translation tools available in the biggest translation service in the world, i.e., the Directorate General for Translation of the European Commission. The present work therefore focuses on the following three main types of CAT tools employed by the EU translators: translation memory tools, terminology management tools and machine translation tools. The same types of tools, offered by the EU providers, i.e. SDL and SYSTRAN, are also used by translators working outside the EU structures. We can therefore presume that the EU translation services set work standards which are then accepted by all professional translators. For that reason, in order to define the most probable directions of future development of these tools, this article also reports the current research conducted by the EU in the CAT tools field.

Artykuł ukazuje możliwości zastosowania narzędzia, jakim jest audyt personalny, do oceny i poprawy efektywności procesu zarządzania zespołem pracowniczym. W pierwszej części artykułu zaprezentowano ogólne pojęcie audytu, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem audytu personalnego, a także opisano wady i zalety oraz podstawowe założenia leżące u podstaw wykorzystania omawianego narzędzia w praktyce. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na procedurę audytu procesu zarządzania zespołową formą organizacji pracy. Artykuł kończy praktyczny przykład zastosowania audytu do oceny i poprawy efektywności procesu zarządzania zespołem pracowniczym.
This article focuses on the issue of a personnel audit which can be used as a tool for improving team management process. Firstly, the notion of personnel audit as an element of the internal audit is described, then attention is drawn to such areas as: rules for the application of this instrument, scope of personnel audit, as well as audit procedures and methods. Next, the article underlines possibility of improving teamwork management process through personnel audit and indicates a significant impact of the audit as a HR tool on teamwork effectiveness. Finally, the audit procedure concerning team management process is described and presented.

The article discusses the issues connected with the legal aspects of the risk management in agricultural production. It is based on US federal crop insurance system and its programs before and after the reinforcement of the Farm Bill in 2014. The paper presents the development of the insurances’ from the historical point of view and its premises in the scope of agricultural policy. Special attention is given to the basic insurance’s plans and their challenges arising from the regulations. In conclusion, the author attempts to evaluate the US insurance system and points out the differences in the relation to the Polish one. The federal crop insurance program is well-positioned today to promote resilient agricultural practices that mitigate the future impact of production risk.

Companies should constantly seek the causes and sources of irregularities. For this purpose, known and widely used quality management methods and tools should be used. Thanks to them, organizations will be able to identify key irregularities and then seek solutions for correction and improvement. Achieving high reliability of products, companies are able to fully meet their consumers’ needs. The paper explains the basic concepts related to quality. However, the most important issue is to present an example of solution using the Poka Yoke method, for an electronics company. The company specializes in the production and development of electronic and electromechanical components, for industries of different categories: household appliances, energy, automotive. The presented solution for improvement concerns modernization of workstations.

Niniejsza praca jest analizą stanu obecnego, jak i kierunków rozwoju zintegrowanych systemów zarządzania zasobami przedsiębiorstwa, zwanych popularnie systemami ERP (ang. Enterprise Resource Planning) w porównaniu z systemami do zarządzania zasobami wojskowymi zwłaszcza w trakcie działań militarnych, tj. systemami BMS (ang. Battlefield Management System). Znaczna część artykułu została poświęcona prezentacji najnowszych rozwiązań tego typu oprogramowania i wyróżnieniu w nich cech innowacyjnych, które w najbliższym czasie nadal będą rozwijane lub rozbudowywane. Głównym celem opracowania było wykazanie, iż w dobie dynamicznych zmian otoczenia osiąganie sukcesów w zakresie zarządzania przez zarówno przedsiębiorstwa, instytucje wojskowe, jak i związki operacyjne bądź taktyczne idzie w parze ze wspieraniem działalności nowoczesnymi systemami informacyjnymi. Oprogramowanie to, tworzone przy użyciu zaawansowanych technologii informatycznych, wywołuje swego rodzaju „sprzężenie zwrotne”, bowiem staje się podstawą budowania współczesnych modeli zarządzania organizacjami czy też strategii zarówno biznesowych, jak i wojskowych.
The purpose of this article is to analyze the current situation as well as the development trends of the integrated Enterprise Resource Management systems in comparison with the Battlefield Management systems. The main part of the article is devoted to the presentation of the latest solutions in this type of software and the indication of the innovative features which will continue to be developed or expanded in the near future. In addition, the reader will be made famil-iar with a detailed analysis of this trend of expansion in the automotive industry, which has been particularly affected during the global economic downturn. The main purpose of the article is to demonstrate that the dynamic changes in the age of achieving a successful economic environment are going hand in hand with the promotion of modern management systems, which are created with advanced information technologies. They are the basis for creating new models of organization management or business strategies.

W nowoczesnym podejściu do kształtowania bezpieczeństwa bazującym na koncepcji trzech er, w której ery reprezentują grupy działań ukierunkowane na rozwój i usprawnienie infrastruktury drogowej, zarządzanie bezpieczeństwem oraz promocję kultury bezpieczeństwa, zarządzanie bezpieczeństwem pełni bardzo istotną rolę. W artykule przedstawiono charakterystykę stanu brd wraz z identyfikacją głównych problemów i grup ryzyka w miastach. Następnie scharakteryzowano systemy zarządzania bezpieczeństwem ruchu drogowego ruchu drogowego, które obejmują struktury organizacyjne, planowanie, odpowiedzialność, zasady i procedury postępowania oraz zasoby (osobowe i finansowe) niezbędne do opracowania, wdrażania, realizowania i monitorowania przyjętej wizji i celów strategicznych w zakresie bezpieczeństwa ruchu drogowego. Na tym tle zaproponowano koncepcję systemu zarządzania brd w miastach, skupiając się głównie na ustandaryzowanych narzędziach zarządzania. W artykule poruszono również kwestię automatyzacji zarządzania bezpieczeństwem w miastach, której rozwój możliwy jest przy wykorzystaniu zainstalowanych lub wdrażanych systemów zarządzania ruchem ulicznym. Przytoczone w artykule wyniki analiz potwierdzają wysoką skuteczność i efektywność proponowanego przez Dyrektywę 2008/96/WE systemu zarządzania bezpieczeństwem infrastruktury drogowej na drogach zamiejskich oraz wskazują na konieczność przygotowania systemu organizacyjnego i odpowiednich procedur do wdrożenia zintegrowanego systemu zarządzania bezpieczeństwem ruchu drogowego na sieci dróg samorządowych. Doskonalenia z uwzględnieniem wymagań standaryzacji, wyników badań naukowych i przykładów dobrej praktyki wymagają ponadto narzędzia służące do zarządzania bezpieczeństwem ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem automatyzacji z wykorzystaniem środków Inteligentnych Systemów Transportu.
Safety management plays a very important role in the modern approach to the development of safety based on the concept of the three eras, which represents activities aimed at the development and improvement of road infrastructure, safety management and promotion of a safety culture, where safety management plays a very important role. The paper presents the characteristics of road safety with the identification of the main problems and risk groups in urban areas. Systems of road safety management were characterized, which includes organizational structure, planning activities, responsibilities, policies and procedures, as well as resources (personal and financial) necessary to develop, implement, and monitor the implementation of the adopted vision and strategic objectives in the field of road safety. Against this background, the concept of road safety management system in cities was proposed by focusing mainly on standardized management tools. The paper also addressed the automation of security management in the cities, which may be developed with the use of the existing traffic management systems or those which are being implemented. Quoted in the article, the analytical results confirm the high effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed Directive 2008/96/EC on the safety management system of road infrastructure on rural roads, and indicate the need of preparation of an organizational system and appropriate procedures to implement the integrated system of road safety management in the urban road network. Improvement with regard to the requirements of standardization, research results and examples of good practice also require tools for safety management with particular emphasis on automation with the use of Intelligent Transport Systems.

Organisations constantly look for new, innovative solutions and methods which could be used to improve their efficiency and increase the quality of their products. Identifying the causes for returns is an important issue for modern companies, as returns are the cause for the increase in production costs and, most importantly, the loss of credibility in the eyes of the client. Therefore, for the company to be able to sustain or strengthen its position on the market, it has to follow the rules of quality management. Especially important is the rule of constant improvement. This rule is primarily connected with preventing errors and defects from occurring at all the stages of the production process. To achieve that, one must, among other things, use quality management tools. The article presents an analysis of causes for returns of a vibrating screen produced by a company which manufactures machinery and equipment for the extractive industry, using quality management tools such as the Ishikawa diagram and Pareto analysis. The analysis allowed for the identification of the causes of client returns which could not be previously identified, and proposing solutions for them.
Organizacje stale poszukują nowych, innowacyjnych rozwiązań i metod, których zastosowanie może doprowadzić je do wyższej efektywności działania i podwyższenia jakość produktów. Identyfikacja przyczyn reklamacji jest istotnym zagadnieniem we współczesnych przedsiębiorstwach, ponieważ reklamacje są przyczyną wzrostu kosztów produkcji i co najważniejsze utraty wiarygodności w oczach klienta. Dlatego też, aby przedsiębiorstwo mogło utrzymać lub wzmocnić swoją pozycję na rynku musi w swoich działaniach kierować się zasadami zarzadzania jakością. Szczególnie istotna jest zasada ciągłego doskonalenia. Zasada ta związana jest przede wszystkim z zapobieganiem powstawaniu błędów i wad na wszystkich etapach produkcji. Aby to osiągnąć należy między innymi stosować narzędzia zarządzania jakością. W artykule zastała przedstawiona analiza przyczyn reklamacji przesiewacza wibracyjnego produkowanego przez przedsiębiorstwo produkujące maszyny i urządzenia dla przemysłu wydobywczego za pomocą narzędzi zarządzania jakością takich jak diagram Ishikawy i analiza Pareto. W pracy rozważono historyczny kontekst wprowadzania i wykorzystywania pojęcia strategicznego planowania finansowego. Zestawiono je z pojęciami długoterminowego planowania finansowego oraz perspektywicznego planowania finansowego, wykazując, że synonimiczne stosowanie tych określeń nie jest uprawnione. Przytoczono także argumenty przemawiające za trójwarstwowym ujęciem planowania finansowego w podmiotach gospodarczych. Wyjaśniono różnice między planowaniem finansowym, prognozowaniem finansowym a budżetowaniem. Na zakończenie rozważono zalety i wady strategicznego planowania finansowego.
The author has reviewed the historical retrospective of strategic financial planning, distinguished the concepts of “strategic financial planning”, “long-term financial planning” and “perspective financial planning” and determined that their use as synonyms is incorrect. The correctness of three-tier financial planning has been justified. The difference between financial planning, financial forecasting and budgeting has been explained. The problem of strategic financial planning, its advantages and disadvantages, has been considered.
