Opis:
The exploration of mammalian diversity distributed at the tribal district of Dimapur in Nagaland, India revealed the presence of a diverse population of 16 species of mammals belonging to 16 genera, 16 families. The species of order Primate and a single species of order Oryctolagus cuniculus were observed in the Dimapur. The mammalian species reported presented an assemblage of unique and threatened species of mammals. The analysis of data revealed that Hoolock hoolock (Harlan, 1834) endogered species, Ursus thibetanus (G. Cuvier, 1823), Panthera pardus (Linnaeus, 1758) valnerble species and Oryctolagus cuniculus (Linnaeus, 1758) near threatened species have been listed in IUCN 3.1, while out of the sixty specie s reported ten species have been placed under different schedules of Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972. A total of sixty species reported from the study area was found to be declared threatened by IUCN 3.1.

Opis:
Repellent usage against rodents is almost not provided anymore. Permission to use many rodent repellent substances under European Union (EU) plant protection regulations has not been renewed in recent years. Some approval for chemical substances have not been renewed due to their toxicological properties, and for some biorational approvals have also not been renewed due to lack of financial support together with other concerns. Some other rodent repellent substances possessing accurate properties in a secondary way have also been withdrawn. Thus, the use of almost ten active substances is now illegal. The lack of support and the resultant orphan use may be explained by the relatively small market and possible business together with the expectations of modern substance application requirements. As a result, the opportunity to consider new biorational substances as candidates is therefore open. Plant based food substances are preferred candidates for plant protection considering their favourable toxicological characteristics. Capsicum oleoresin, a mixture obtained from two spice species (Capsicum annuum and C. frutescens), is one of them with appropriate repellent properties. An application under EU Plant Protection Product regulation has recently been submitted and may become a new repellent for biological control agent against seed predators.

Opis:
The aim of the paper is to review the ancient sources devoted to the sea monster called κάμπη (f. ā-stem). Some researchers believe that it is also attested as κάμπος (n. es-stem). The zoonym in question, so named by the reason of a similarity of the marine animal to a caterpillar, evidently derives from the verb κάμπτω ‘to bend, curve’. The dramatist and philosopher Epicharmus of Kos (ca. 530–440 BC) was probably the first Greek writer who mentioned the sea monster κάμπη. Such a supposition is confirmed by the gloss κάμπη· κῆτος παρὰ Ἐπιχάρμῳ, registered in Hesychius’ lexicon (5th–6th c. AD). According to most modern lexicographers, the alternative form κάμπος n. ‘a sea monster’ is attested in one literary work in the form of the genitive plural καμπέων (Lyc., Alex. 414). The author intends to verify whether the alleged variant κάμπος (n. es-stem) is an authentic lexical item or a doubtful guess.

The biggest in the world ozokerite resources were discovered at the beginning of XIX century in Boryslaw, in time of the explorations for rock oil. This discovery caused a fever similar to gold rush in Alaska. The crude ozokerite, like its derivative named ceresin, is broadly used as insulating and impregnation material, as a component of greases, pastes, various chemicals even pharmaceuticals.

Opis:
The potential usefulness of taphonomical research for studies of Pleistocene mammal remains is detailed. The required taphonomical research involves two stages. The first one is the biostratinomical stage, which concerns the time between the death of the organism and its burial; for this time-span, the spatial distribution of the remnants is analysed, as well as the weathering marks, the activity of predators (i.e. gnawing and digestion), the influence of temperature, intentional human activity, rodent marks (i.e. gnawing), and trampling. in the second one is the diagenetic stage, which deals with the time-span from the burial of the remnants to their discovery; for this time-span, the influence of physical and chemical processes (including diagenetic alterations of the deposit, the influence of water, and plant-root marks) are considered. The application of taphonomical analysis provides the possibility of reconstructing the environmental conditions under which the skeleton or bone complex was preserved, as well as the depositional history of the bones (postconsumption remnants, flood remains, accumulation of bones by predators). This opens new possibilities for the study of Pleistocene bones in Poland.

Introduction. Leptospirosis is endemic in Ternopil region. In Ukraine, the disease is registered in almost all regions, including the Ternopil region. The aim of the research is to study the regularities of epidemic and epizootic processes of leptospirosis, and the circulation of its pathogens among different sources (small mammals, animals) and humans. Materials and method. Etiologic spectrum of leptospirosis registered in Ternopil region in 1972–2016 among small mammals, farm animals and sick people was studied. Results. Due to the analysis of pathogens circulation among different sources (small mammals, animals), as well as the annual morbidity in humans, it was proved that new leptospira serovars are endemic and brought into the regions mostly by farm animals. Farm animals introduce the infection to humans through the environment, sometimes within 3–5-years. The spread was observed of pathogen serovars, which are new in certain areas, among all types of mouse-like small mammals and rats. It was established that livestock and small mammals are parallel reservoirs. Conclusions. In the regions with endemic species, the structural modification in the etiology of leptospirosis in humans is caused by additional reservoirs among animals, as well as the circulation of other pathogen serovars that were absent in the main natural reservoir, i.e. mouse-like small mammals and rats. The constant monitoring of the population, contamination and carrier state of mouse-like small mammals, rats and farm animals, is required In order to predict the future epidemiological situation on leptospirosis among the population and to improve leptospirosis diagnosis.

Opis:
Muskrat, Ondatra zibethicus (L. 1766), is an introduced species to European fauna. It is widespread in Poland, however signs of it decline were observed in last decades. While most of information on muskrat is based on questionnaires and bag record, in this paper results of field census for muskrat signs (tracks and feaces) at total of 1554 sites are presented. Signs of muskrats were present at 19,5% of 1111 sites surveyed from 1996-1998, and at 5,3% of 413 sites surveyed in 2007, Muskrats inhabited mostly small and medium rivers in western part of the study area. Decrease in occurrence of the species over a study period is best document by significant reduction in frequency of muskrat records at the 249 sites surveyed in 1996-1998 (present at 44% sites) and 2007 (7%). The decline of the muskrat population is most probably the effect of increasing predation by American mink Neovison vison.
