Opis:: Tematem eseju jest analiza wartościowania antropocenu w tekstach kultury (film), ujmowana zarówno w znaczeniu dosłownym, jak i metaforycznym oraz jego reprezentacja na przykładzie wybranych dzieł Lecha Majewskiego (ur. 1953). Głównym celem rozważań jest wskazanie synergii człowieka z jego otoczeniem (zob. humanistyka środowiskowa), we wskazanej twórczości, w aspekcie semiotycznym i kulturowym. Pozwala to lepiej zrozumieć postawę autora Doliny Bogów (2019) wobec transformacji XXI wieku. Metodologia: analiza dyskursu teoretycznego i filmoznawczego.
The subject of the text is the analysis of the anthropocene valuation in cultural texts (film), both literally and metaphorically, and its representation on the example of selected films by Lech Majewski (born 1953). The main purpose of the considerations is to show the synergy of man with his environment (see environmental humanities), in the indicated creativity, in the semiotic and cultural aspect. This allows us to better understand the attitude of the author of Valley of the Gods (2019) towards the transformation of the 21st century. Methodology: film studies, cultural anthropology

Opis:: The article discusses grammatical, semantic and pragmatic linguistic style indicators appearing in the dialogues of Lech Majewski’s film The Knight from 1980. The analysis of the material proved that the film is dominated by means evoking the old, historical Polish language. The author most often reached for inversion, conventional historicisms (referring to the stereotype of the feudal medieval times) and stylistic, as well as the old forms of address. Stylistic strategy used in the film can be defined as historical stylization. Language of the dialogues harmonizes with fairy-poetic narrative convention of The Knight.

Opis:: The subject of the analysis is the problem of metaphysics in Lech Majewski’s novel Metafizyka [Metaphysics] (2002) and in the author’s film adaptation entitled Ogród rozkoszy ziemskich [The Garden of Earthly Delights] (2004). In the novel, metaphysical sensations are conveyed through discourse: 1) the reflections of the rationalist protagonist who undergoes a crisis of worldview following the death of his partner, and 2) in interpretations of the mysterious triptych by Hieronymus Bosch, showing an irreal world: an earthly paradise which the characters attempt to emulate by repeating scenes from the painting. In the film, Majewski aban metaphysical discourse in favour of exposing The Garden of Earthly Delights and showing elaborate psychological portraits of his characters, especially the heroine who is fascinated by Bosch. Therefore, despite having the same plot, the novel and the film are two separate, autonomous works.

Myślą przewodnią jest stosunek współczesnych reżyserów dzieł śląskich do filmowego imaginarium regionalnego wypracowanego przez mistrzów: Kazimierza Kutza, Janusza Kidawę, Lecha Majewskiego i innych. Kontekst rozważań stanowią odzwierciedlone w filmach antropologiczne i społeczne przemiany przestrzeni kulturowej regionu, będące efektem transformacji ekonomiczno-ustrojowej oraz różne strategie odnoszenia się do tradycji i poetyki kina regionalnego stosowane przez dzisiejszych twórców. Materiał badawczy stanowią filmy fabularne ostatniej dekady należące do kina głównego nurtu.
The article addresses the problem of the changing image of Upper Silesia in Polish cinema. The guiding thought is the attitude of contemporary directors of work related to Silesia to the regional film imaginarium developed by the masters: Kazimierz Kutz, Janusz Kidawa, Lech Majewski and others. The context of the analysis are the anthro- pological and social transformations of the cultural space of the region, resulting from the economic and political transformation and different strategies of referring to the tradition and poetics of regional cinema reflected in the films of contemporary film- makers. The research material is made up of feature films of the last decade that belong to the mainstream cinema.

Opis:: Lech Majewski’s The Mill and the Cross (2011) is a full-length feature film, a screen adaptation of Pieter Bruegel’s painting The Way of the Cross (1564). Majewski proves to be an excellent interpreter of Bruegel’s art, whom he considers a philosopher, an epic, and a poet. He relies on the research of Michael F. Gibson, and in his plotting he draws on a long-standing tradition of literary experience and digital technology (without this, it would have been impossible to faithfully reproduce the overall plan and realities of the painting). Majewski exposes the palimpsest nature of the narrative and shapes the film like a contemporary novel of space. In order to make the ideas of the screened painting comprehensible and to emphasize the fictionality of the depicted world, he introduces various versions of “literature about literature”. In the film, he perfectly integrates painterly features (word reduction, stop motion, long static camera shots) and literary features (the structure of an episodic novel of manners).
