It does not often happen in the history of urban development that conditions in which towns are functioning are radically changed. Uniejów on the river Warta, with a population of a little above 3000, is one of such urban centres – its development path is now taking a new turn due to intensive development of tourism and recreation functions. The changes that are taking place in Uniejów are primarily affecting its residents. To find out their opinions on the new situation a survey has been conducted on a random sample of the inhabitants of the city and its region. The responses received show that generally the perception of the changes is positive – 100% of the respondents appreciate the improved appearance of the city and 76% point to increased economic growth. On the other hand, there are opinions indicating limited participation of the inhabitants in the success of the city – there are persons who feel to be affected negatively or not at all. This may be due to the fact that Uniejów has only very recently started the new development trajectory and it is too early for all the residents to feel its impact.

The article is devoted to the history of small towns incorporated in the 14th century that were located on the borderland of Silesia and Lesser Poland. It analyses four centres located in he so-called central area of the borderland – Będzin, Bieruń, Chrzanów and Mysłowice. The aim of the research is to point to any regularity connected with the creation and functioning of small towns in the specific area of the borderland as well as to show relations between these centres and larger cities such as Krakow or Opole. The development of a settlement of a municipal character in a particular place was influenced by a number of factors, including natural factors, the existence of a city or a market settlement in the neighbourhood, the vicinity of trade routes, fords, as well as the organization of local and regional routes. None of the discussed towns was created from scratch as there were traces of settlements frombefore the incorporation in their vicinity. The early establishment of the towns is additionally corroborated by information about parishes whose existence had been proved in all towns except from Bieruń since the beginning of the 14th century. Small towns played an important role in the economy of their regions as they satisfied the needs of their inhabitants, people from the adjacent villages and merchants travelling through the town. Moreover, the towns fulfilled a series of political, proprietary, and cultural functions in relation to the neighbouring settlements. One can notice some regularities and similarities in the origin, functions and conditions of developing small towns. These factors were not influenced in any major way by the fact that the towns were located at different sides of the border.

The article discusses the basis for development of spa and recreational functions in Uniejów. The town has favourable natural (geothermal water, climate) and historical conditions (medieval town center). Currently, in connection with the above-mentioned assets, a new morphological unit intended for leasure activities is developing in the left- bank part of Uniejów. Maintaining the balance in the development of the emerging left- bank section and the right-bank (of medieval origin) section of Uniejów seems to be the right path to ensuring sustainable growth of the town. The spatial policy and spatial planning of Uniejów should be oriented to promoting the development of both parts of the town to obtain the synergy effect.

Tourism and recreation are a very topical issue in Uniejów – a city which only recently introduced and developed these functions. This article is devoted to the tourists-residents relationship. Apart from a review of selected theoretical issues it also presents findings of surveys which examined the attitudes of the inhabitants of Uniejów and its region to the growing numbers of tourists, and their opinions about the effect of the new functions on the situation of the city. The present level of development of Uniejów's tourist functions as measured by the Baretje-Deffert index is low. The city is currently in the growth stage (according to Butler's stages of tourist areas evolution). This is in line with the positive attitude of the resident population to tourists. The respondents to the questionnaire survey reported good or fairly good relations with tourists visiting the city. Also, the majority of Uniejów's inhabitants have a positive opinion about the influence of the changes taking place in the city on the quality of life. However, some negative effects of increased tourist traffic have also been poined out, such as higher prices of goods in the shops.

Procesy rozwoju struktury przestrzennej polskich miast znacznie zintensyfikowały się po 2000 r. Szczególnie intensywne zmiany zaczęły zachodzić po 2004 r. Wykorzystując wcześniejsze badania dotyczące przeobrażeń struktury przestrzennej małych miast Dolnego Śląska, jakie zaszły w latach 1945–2000, zbadano w kolejnym okresie, tj. w latach 2000–2017, kierunek przemian przestrzennych wybranej grupy małych miast wokół Wrocławia. Miasta te po wielu latach zastoju urbanistycznego rozpoczęły proces przywracania zerwanych więzi łączących powstałą po II wojnie światowej zabudowę mieszkaniową z obszarami śródmiejskimi. Tempo i kierunek zmian, które zaszły w nich w ciągu ostatnich 17 lat, są przedmiotem przeprowadzonych przez Katedrę Urbanistyki i Procesów Osadniczych badań na wybranej grupie małych miast zlokalizowanych wokół Wrocławia.

The aim of this paper is to present festivals, serving as operations activating public spaces and increasing the periodic influx of tourists to Uniejów. Due to the dynamic development of geothermal investments and increase investment in tourism, Uniejów region becomes an attractive place to leisure and recreation. A large number, of events (over 77 festivals) in the city (including 5 national festivals) requires not only the physical shape of public spaces (such as squares, parks, castle and others), but also must socialize physical public space for cultural purposes. It's more dynamic festivals in Uniejów periodic tourist traffic for such a large number of tourists it is necessary to meet the conditions for the use of public space. Seasonal festivals (POW WOW Spring Festival of Song and Dance Company of North America, National Water Festival, the Grand Knight of the Castle Tournament in Uniejów, Indian Summer - Day Avenue of them. Tue-Okha), enliven the newly created city space. Designed around recreational areas, must be not only friendly but clear to read. The public space around the term is diverging from the historical center of novelty, which integrate with the rest of the city is extremely difficult.

W artykule zostało podjęte zagadnienie elit mieszczańskich w małych miastach Małopolski w okresie nowożytnym. Szczególną uwagę skupiono na osobach piastujących najwyższe urzędy miejskie: radnych i wójtów sądowych oraz na różnicach ustrojowych między miastami prywatnymi a królewskimi. Przejawiały się one m.in. w odmiennej hierarchii urzędów i większej rotacji urzędników. Omówiono też kwestie statusu prawnego mieszczan w dobrach szlacheckich i małomiasteczkowej elity majątkowej.

W artykule zaprezentowano metodę rewitalizacji Starego Miasta wraz z zamkiem i zespołem folwarcznym w Między-rzeczu, zastosowaną w projekcie dyplomowym, wykonanym w 2016 roku na Uniwersytecie Zielonogórskim, w Katedrze Architektury i Urbanistyki [1]. Projekt ten został wyróżniony w międzynarodowym konkursie konserwatorskim im. Prof. Jana Zachwatowicza, organizowanym dorocznie przez PKN ICOMOS, a także zdobył nagrodę w Konkursie o Nagrodę Ministra Infrastruktury [2]. Metoda rewitalizacji polegała na przywróceniu generalnych cech przestrzennej struktury średniowiecznego miasta, przy dopuszczalnej różnorodności elementów drugoplanowych kompozycji. Pojęcie różnorodności odnosi się tu zarówno do obiektów objętych ochroną konserwatorską, jak też do nowoprojektowanych o nowoczesnej formie, harmonizującej z otoczeniem, a także rekonstruowanych. Wschodnia pierzeja rynku jak i duża część pierzei południowej, uległy zniszczeniu na skutek II wojny światowej i nigdy nie zostały odbudowane, a ich miejsce oraz sąsiadujących kwartałów zabudowy wypełniła zieleń. Większość mieszkańców, szczególnie młodych, akceptuje taki stan. Projekt stanowi przykład kompleksowego opracowania konserwatorskiego od skali urbanistycznej do architektonicznej, Wykonane studium historyczno-urbanistyczne oraz staranne analizy stanu istniejącego, w różnych aspektach pozwoliły skonstruować wytyczne konserwatorskie, które dały podstawę do projektu rewitalizacji historycznego miasta. W ramach rewitalizacji, m.in. uzupełniono strukturę miejską o brakujące kwartały zabudowy, przywrócono Rynkowi jego rangę i historyczne proporcje, zaprojektowano nową posadzkę w Rynku, ożywiono nową funkcją zabudowania folwarczne oraz zaprojektowano park krajobrazowy na sąsiadującym zdegradowanym terenie.
The article presents a method of revitalisation of the Old Town together with the castle and grange complex in Międzyrzecz, applied in a master’s dissertation prepared at the Chair of Architecture and Urban Planning of University of Zielona Góra in 2016, that received an honourable mention in the Prof. Jan Zachwatowicz international conservation competition organised by PKN ICOMOS. The revitalisation method envisaged restoration of the general spatial characteristics of a historical urban scheme, permitting diversity of the supporting components being subordinated to the overall composition. The notion of diversity applies to the buildings protected by the monuments conservator as well as to the new ones harmonising with the existing environment and to reconstructions. The eastern frontage and part of the southern frontage of the market place were destroyed by World War II and never rebuilt. Their place, as well as that of the adjacent dwelling quarters were taken by greenery. Majority of residents, especially the young ones accept this status quo. The master’s dissertation is an example of a comprehensive conservation study, from urban to architectural scale, preceded by historical-urban studies and relevant analyses of the existing state in many aspects. Results of the analyses enabled to formulate conclusions and conservation guidelines which served as the basis for the revitalisation design. The revitalisation included, amongst other things, rebuilding of the missing city blocks, preparation of a new floor design for the Market Place, revival of the grange complex buildings with new features and designing a landscape park to be situated on the adjacent, degraded land.

W artykule przedstawiono zmiany jakie zaszły w spółdzielniach mleczarskich w małych miastach po wstąpieniu Polski do UE. Przeanalizowano liczbę spółdzielni mleczarskich w małych miastach, spożycie niektórych artykułów mleczarskich, przychody netto ze sprzedaży produktów. Zwrócono także uwagę na proces konsolidacji, ofertę produktową spółdzielni mleczarskich oraz modernizację spółdzielni. Z analizy danych wynika, że spółdzielnie mleczarskie w małych miastach stanowią ponad 39% spółdzielni zrzeszonych w KZSM ZW2. Niektóre z tych spółdzielni należą do krajowej czołówki, np. „Mlekovita” w Wysokim Mazowieckim, OSM Ryki, OSM Sierpc czy OSM Krasnystaw. Największy wzrost przychodów netto ze sprzedaży produktów odnotowała spółdzielnia mleczarska „Mlekovita” o ponad 268% w 2010 roku w stosunku do roku 2004. Stwierdzono pozytywne zmiany w spółdzielczości mleczarskiej w małych miastach po wstąpieniu Polski do UE.
The article presents changes that have taken place in dairy cooperatives in small towns after Poland’s accession to the EU. It analyzes a number of dairy cooperatives in small towns, consumption of selected dairy products, net revenues from sales of products. It also draws attention to the process of consolidation, product range of dairy cooperatives as well as modernization of cooperatives. The analysis of the data shows that dairy cooperatives in small towns constitute over 39% of cooperatives united in KZSM – National Association of Dairy Cooperatives. Some of these cooperatives are among the best in the country, for example: „Mlekovita” in Wysokie Mazowieckie, OSM Ryki, OSM Sierpc, or OSM Krasnystaw. Dairy cooperative „Mlekovita” has registered the highest increase in net revenues from sales of products, over 268% in 2010 in comparison to 2004. Positive changes have been noted in dairy cooperatives in small towns after Poland’s accession to the EU.
