Opis:
Żądło (2012) proposed a certain unit-level longitudinal model which was a special case of the General Linear Mixed Model. Two vectors of random components included in the model obey assumptions of simultaneous spatial autoregressive process (SAR) and temporal first-order autoregressive process (AR(1)) respectively. Moreover, it is assumed that the population can change in time and the population elements can change its domains’ (subpopulations’) affiliation in time. Under the proposed model, Żądło (2012) derived the Empirical Best Linear Unbiased Predictor (EBLUP) of the domain total. What is more (based on the theorem proved by Żądło (2009)), the approximate equation of the mean squared error (MSE) was derived and its estimator based on the Taylor approximation was proposed. The proposed MSE estimator was derived under some assumptions including that the variance-covariance matrix can be decomposed into linear combination of variance components. The assumption was not met under the proposed model. In the paper the jackknife MSE estimator for the derived EBLUP will be proposed based on the results presented by Jiang, Lahiri, Wan (2002). The bias of the jackknife MSE estimator will be compared in the simulation study with the bias of the MSE estimator based on the Taylor approximation.

Opis:
The problem of prediction of subpopulation (domain) total is studied as in Rao (2003). The problem is inspired by results obtained by Żądło (2012) who considered two predictors – empirical best linear unbiased predictor (EBLUP) under some correct model and some simpler misspecified predictor. In the simulation study he showed that the misspecified predictor may be in some cases more accurate than the EBLUP derived under the correct model what resulted from the decrease of accuracy of the EBLUP due to the estimation of unknown parameters of the correct model. But the problem occurred in the case of MSE estimation – under the correct model the bias of the MSE estimator derived under the misspecified model was very large. Hence, in the paper we consider a predictor based on some misspecified model and we derive some MSE estimator under the correct model and we propose usage of two other MSE estimators.

Opis:
The problem of the estimation of the design-variance and the design-MSE of different estimators and predictors is considered. Bootstrap algorithms applicable to complex sampling designs are used. A generalisation of the bootstrap procedure studied by Quatember (2014) is proposed. In most of the cases considered in our simulation study it leads to more accurate estimates (or to very similar ones in remaining cases) of the designMSE and the design-variance compared with the original algorithm and its other counteparts.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to describe some parametric estimation methods for the Weibull, gamma and Gompertz distributions and to identify among them estimators the most efficient in practical applications. Techniques which are considered as traditional methods, like the maximum likelihood (MLE) and the method of moments (MM) estimation but also some newer and less commonly used techniques like the Lmoment estimator (LME), least-square estimator (LSE), generalized spacing estimator (GSE) and percentile estimator (PE) were presented. The application of each method was demonstrated in a simulation study using data sets generated for different distribution parameters and sample sizes. Discussed estimators were compared in terms of their efficiency and bias measured by mean-square errors (MSE) based on the simulations results.

Opis:
Sample surveys are often affected by missing observations and non-response caused by the respondents' refusal or unwillingness to provide the requested information or due to their memory failure. In order to substitute the missing data, a procedure called imputation is applied, which uses the available data as a tool for the replacement of the missing values. Two auxiliary variables create a chain which is used to substitute the missing part of the sample. The aim of the paper is to present the application of the Chain-type factor estimator as a means of source imputation for the non-response units in an incomplete sample. The proposed strategies were found to be more efficient and bias-controllable than similar estimation procedures described in the relevant literature. These techniques could also be made nearly unbiased in relation to other selected parametric values. The findings are supported by a numerical study involving the use of a dataset, proving that the proposed techniques outperform other similar ones.

Opis:
The ever-growing need for high data rate, bandwidth efficiency, reliability, less complexity and less power consumption in our communication systems is on the increase. Modern techniques have to be developed and put in place to meet these requirements. Research has shown, that compared to conventional Single Input Single Output (SISO) systems, Multiple-Input Single Output (MISO), and Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) can actually increase the data rate of a communication system, without actually requiring more transmit power or bandwidth. This paper aims at the investigation of the existing channel estimation techniques. Based on the pilot arrangement, the block type and comb type are compared, employing the Least Square estimation (L.S) and Minimum Mean Squared Error (MMSE) estimators. Pilots occupy bandwidth, minimizing the number of pilots used to estimate the channel, in order to allow for more bandwidth utilization for data transmission, without compromising the accuracy of the estimates is taken into consideration. Various channel interpolation techniques and pilot-data insertion ratio are investigated, simulated and compared, to determine the best performance technique with less complexity and minimum power consumption. As performance measures, the Mean Squared Error (MSE) and Bit Error Rate (BER) as a function of Signal to Noise power Ratio (SNR) of the different channel estimation techniques are plotted, in order to identify the technique with the most optimal performance. The complexity and energy efficiency of the techniques are also investigated. The system modelling and simulations are carried out using Matlab simulation package. The MIMO gives the optimum performance, followed by the MISO and SISO. This is as a result of the diversity and multiplexing gain experienced in the multiple antenna techniques using the STBC.
