    Opis:
    Oświata Dorosłych (The Adult Education) – an andragogics magazine which was launched in 1957, used to devote a lot of space in its columns to the problem area related to educating adults. Therefore, it seemed interesting to present problems of prison-based school system over the period of 23 years – until 1990 (i.e., the year when the magazine ceased to appear). The scope of research exploration was marked out by the following questions: How was the prison-based school system organized? What were the motives of tasking up school education by the detained? What was the effectiveness of the teaching and rearing proces in teachers’ opinions? What role did the teacher play in the didactic-rearing proces in this specific environment. I have analyzed 21 articles dealing with this subject matter, that is all those published in the columns of the magazine in that period.

    The aim of the paper is to identify student’s and teacher’s motives of involvement in tutoring – a new educational offer in the academic year 2014/2015 at the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography of the University of Gdańsk. First, the theoretical concept of tutoring is presented, followed by the description of the process of implementation of the voluntary course of tutoring at the Faculty. Finally, results of the one-question survey conducted among 11 tutors and their 14 tutees is presented. The research revealed that a motive of development of academic skills and knowledge is present in every student’s opinions. More than half of the teachers became tutors to help students and because they find tutoring developmental.

    Even though discovering true motives for studying at University/college is a difficult task, still it is indispensable. Identification of real motives may help to improve didactic and educational methods at Universities. Furthermore, the teaching process decides about the quality of education as well as the quality of the future graduates’ work. The article provides an analysis of choice for studying psychology and pedagogy as a result of negative experience in the student’s family.

    Edukacja techniczna małych dzieci jest archaiczna (Furmanek, 2007, s. 44–54) i wymaga diagnozy dla wypracowania nowych działań. 91% nauczycieli obserwuje duże zainteresowanie dzieci zajęciami technicznymi, jednak brakuje im pomysłów na proste doświadczenia, które rozwijałyby myślenie dzieci. Artykuł przedstawia wyniki ankiety przeprowadzonej wśród 2475 nauczycieli na temat trudności i motywów podejmowania się prowadzenia zajęć z techniki wśród dzieci.
    Technical education for young children is archaic (Furmanek, 2007, p. 44–54) and requires a diagnosis to develop new activities. 91% of teachers are very interested in technical classes for children, but they lack ideas for simple experiences that would develop children;s thinking. The article presents the results of a survey conducted among 2,475 teachers on the difficulties and motives of undertaking technical classes among children.

    A discussion on the quality of initial teacher education held in the European Union and a declining number of candidates for teacher training programmes are the reasons for an empirical exploration of candidates’ motives to choose a teaching career. International research provides knowledge on the topic, hence the article’s focus on theoretical and empirical analysis of Polish and Portuguese students’ motives for choosing ITE, as compared to their place of residence. 308 students (163 from Poland and 145 from Portugal) participated in the survey. The article presents survey results, which point to the dominant role of students’ own interests in choosing a degree in teaching. The prevailing number of respondents declared a village as their place of residence. When choosing a degree in teaching, the surveyed group was mainly influenced by their teachers and peer environment.
    Tocząca się w krajach Unii Europejskiej dyskusja na temat jakości kształcenia nauczycieli oraz utrzymująca się w wielu krajach członkowskich tendencja zmniejszającej się liczby kandydatów na studia pedagogiczne skłaniają do podjęcia eksploracji empirycznej problematyki motywacji kandydatów do podejmowania studiów pedagogicznych. Poszerzonej wiedzy w tym zakresie dostarczają badania międzynarodowe, stąd artykuł poświęcony jest analizie teoretyczno-empirycznej problematyki motywów wyboru studiów pedagogicznych przez studentów w Polsce i Portugalii z uwzględnieniem kontekstu ich miejsca zamieszkania. Oba kraje są członkami UE i realizują jej założenia strategiczne. W badaniach uczestniczyło 308 studentów, w tym 163 z Polski oraz 145 z Portugalii. Artykuł finalizowany jest wnioskami, wynikającymi ze zgromadzonego materiału, które wskazują na dominującą rolę własnych zainteresowań studentów w procesie wyboru studiów pedagogicznych, w tym najliczniejszą grupę stanowią zarówno w Polsce, jak i Portugalii, studenci deklarujący wieś jako miejsce zamieszkania. W badanej grupie, na wybór studiów pedagogicznych mniejszy wpływ miały tradycje rodzinne niż nauczyciele i środowisko rówieśnicze.

    The authors present the results of research carried out in 2017/2018 academic year and compare them with the results obtained in 1999/2000 academic year. The aim of the study was to find out the changes in students’ motivation for learning English as a second language in general and changes in hierarchy of motives which have a strong positive effect on learning English as a second language from diachronic point of view. The methods of mathematical statistics and computer data processing as well as discursive reflection for making conclusions were used in the research. 97 Law, Economics and Agro-ecology students of National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine completed a questionnaire for collecting data and evaluating motives. The results of the research have shed light on motives and motivation of present-day Law, Economics and Agro- -ecology students who learn English as a second language at higher educational institution.
