Opis:
Based on case studies prepared at the Harvard Business School, the article analyses the content of university courses on business history. Its aim is to answer the question whether or not business history courses are used for discussing the problems of CSR or moral dilemmas behind strategic decisions made by managers. The article argues that the chance of enhancing the understanding of social problems on the part of the managers and shaping their responsiveness to them, created by the presence of courses on history in the academic curriculum, remains, to a large extent, unrealised. Teaching materials are still influenced by the Chandlerian paradigm and thus focus on changes in organisational structures and strategies of large multinational companies. They pay little attention to the social environment of business, rarely pose questions on the motivations of human actions or value hierarchies and avoid discussions on the social consequences of management decisions.

This paper specifies competences and skills of methodologically rational decision making and their impact on security of organisations. The study indicates some reasons for developing the competencies and skills in education, professional development and taking them into account in the recruitment. It is the practical aim of this paper. Its scientific aim is to formulate and to partly justify general hypotheses concerning the impact of methodologically rational and irrational attitudes of members of organisations on their security. We apply the method of ideal types of Max Weber and phenomenological analyses, which concern intentionality of methodologically rational and irrational mental attitudes.

Opis:
The text discusses the context and background for development of public-private partnership in the education sector. This development is based in the concept of New Public Management (New Governance) widespreaded in the policy and practice of governments since 1980 s. The article discuses an example of involvement of non-public actors in providing education: The Private Financial Initiative (PFI). PFI has become the predominant model for building and operating of new schools in the United Kingdom. The British experiences have been employed by other countries as the number and volume of educational investments conducted in the PPP formula is steadily growing. This process has been illustrated by the relevant European Investment Bank data. The text also features the Polish approach to contracting out public education services i.e. when local authorities entrusts the operation of public school to a private entity. This concept corresponds with the idea of community schools where local communities become authentic owners of the school itself and its assets.

Issues concerning relations between business and society in teaching Business History in the United States and Poland

Opis:
Based on empirical material in the form of case studies prepared at Harvard Business School and Kozminski University, the article analyses the content of teaching materials in the field of business history. The Harvard case studies served as a model for the Polish ones. In contrast to the United States, at Kozminski University and in other Polish business schools, business history is not taught as a separate subject. The article puts forward the thesis that history education could provide an opportunity for future managers to broaden their knowledge of the social environment in which they will operate and to shape attitudes of responsibility for the social consequences of decisions made. However, this opportunity remains largely untapped in both the United States and Poland. American teaching materials are still influenced by the Chandlerian paradigm, and therefore they focus on the evolution of structures and changes in the strategy of large multinational corporations. These materials present students with role models of successful entrepreneurs and companies. Their social environment is presented in a sketchy manner, and questions about the motivations of human actions or hierarchies of values are rarely asked. The teaching materials also shy away from questions about the social consequences of managerial decisions. This is so, despite the fact that scientific publications are moving away from concentrating solely on the centre of global capitalism, the history of the largest corporations, and the treatment of the social environment as a variable on which the entrepreneur or company have no influence. Business history as a scientific discipline in Poland is still at an early stage of development. However, one can notice a gap between research and teaching similar to the one that exists in the USA: there are works critically analysing the period of transformation and showing the peripheral character of Polish capitalism as well as the social consequences of this peripheral nature that are completely ignored in teaching.

Opis:
The interest for multidisciplinary teams began in the 90’s of the past century. This interest stemmed from shifting the focus from activities consisting on “providing care” to increased focus on individuals (clients) that benefit from widely understood social assistance system. The issue of interdisciplinary teams is well described in the literature related to health care and social assistance, however there are not many publications in the field of education that explore the problem. The main goal of this article is the analysis based on literature and experiences coming from the activity of interdisciplinary teams in schools, of the possibilities of this type of work organization in school and the analysis of factors that influence its efficiency.

In democratic society implementing the equality of possibilities allows to elaborate “people’s responsibilities and capacities” necessary for the realization of individuals’ personal functions in society. Thus a big attention is paid to school education as well. In the age of education a child’s socialization is taking place, that is conveyed by social maturity and the quality of maturity processes. Nevertheless, the education is significant not only for children and their successful socialization, but also for parents as when a child starts to attend school institution, his/her life has new purpose. A child, who attends institution of school education, has to adapt to this situation and to strive that it would become space of socio-cultural life. So in the article the authors discuss the quality of education (Lithuanian case). Based on the analysis of scientific literature and research.

The education system in Indonesia has two main sub-systems, one under the management of the Ministry of Education and Culture (MoEC), and madrasah education and religious education under the management of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA). Out of approximately 233,517 state schools and madrasah, about 82% are state schools and the remaining 18% are madrasah; and out of 49,402,000 students from these institutions, 87% are registered in-state schools and other 13% are registered in madrasah. Indonesian laws and regulations require state schools and madrasah to be treated equally. Moreover, madrasah teaches the same national curriculum in addition to Islamic religious subjects regulated by MoRA. The author tried to define the current circumstance of Islamic education in Indonesia, the academic issues that the government faces and sought possible solutions for them through field surveys and data analysis methods used throughout the investigation. The found data show that improper infrastructure of government contribution towards public education including religious education, and limited quota in pedagogical universities lead to a shortage of teachers in rural areas. The government of Indonesia needs further educational reforms in the area of public education, teacher training, and re-training programs, and increasing teachers’ salaries. School dropouts, shortage of well-qualified teachers, and school fees challenge the national education system in the country.

Circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in many challenges for all entities constituting the education system in Poland. The article aims to present the specific character of managing education and the teaching team in this demanding unusual reality. Contemporary principals and managers of various levels of education, often burdened with a multitude and diversity of tasks and requirements imposed on their role and the organisation of work of the managed entity, regardless of the circumstances of management, require and expect adequate support. The article reviews current empirical research on the problem of the functioning of schools in the pandemic, including such aspects as the situation of teachers, principals, students and their parents. The results are set within the practical, day-to-day management of education, focusing on the implementation of statutory tasks and the circumstances of cooperation between the principal and the staff team (e.g., concerning communication, fulfilment of needs, conflict resolution). Reference has also been made to own empirical research dedicated to managerial talent in education and the specific character of conflict management in an educational institution.

Opis:
On the management structure of higher education an equivalent impact have external interaction as well as the internal determinants. Higher education facilities compete with each other in the regional and global dimension on the free market basis. European universities are evolving into open organizations for the environment. The model of added value creation is changing: in traditional model supply and demand of services were important, nowadays value-added are new stakeholders (business communities, particularly the local ones, local authorities, NGOs), and it is the inclusion of those entities, which, as institutionalized or not, have a real impact on the decisions of institutions of higher education, should be seen as a strategic goal. The autonomy of public universities is in fact limited by law, forcing submission to the pattern established by the state. Despite this, the state has little ability to pursue the assumed educational and science policy. The current structure of management in higher education is not sufficiently clear and unwieldy, and substantive autonomy of universities is lower than in many other EU and OECD countries. The article attempts to answer the question to which extent solutions and experiences of European higher education systems are able to influence the reform process launched in Poland and to identify constraints inside the system which slow this process.
