In the paper the parametric optimization problem for a linear system with two delays and a PD-controller is presented. In the parametric optimization problem the quadratic performance index is considered. The value of the quadratic index of quality is calculated due to the Lyapunov functional and is equal to the value of that functional for the initial function of the neutral system with two delays. The Lyapunov functional is determined by means of the Lyapunov matrix.

The notion of positive discrete-time Lyapunov system is introduced. Solution of the Lyapunov state equation is derived and necessary and sufficient conditions for the positivity of Lyapunov system are established. Different necessary and sufficient conditions for the asymptotic stability of the positive Lyapunov systems are given. Using the Kronecker product of matrices necessary and sufficient conditions for reachability and controllability of the positive Lyapunov systems are established. The considerations are illustrated by numerical example.

Quadrocopters are nonlinear and inherently unstable systems. To be able to account for the nonlinearities during more aggressive manoeuvres nonlinear control methods need to be utilized to obtain the desired position while at the same time guaranteeing stability. In the article, the quadrocopter dynamics is modelled using the Newton-Euler method. The propeller aerodynamics is modelled using a combination of momentum theory and blade element theory. There are two different control objectives; the 1st objective requires the quadrocopter to reach a desired attitude set point using, while the 2nd objective requires the quadrocopter to track an attitude trajectory. In both cases, Lyapunov stability criterion, in conjunction with LaSalle’s invariance principle, is used to guarantee the system becomes asymptotically stable. In the case of reaching the desired attitude set point, a direct Lyapunov control method is implemented with the control constants determined empirically. For the trajectory tracking, limited knowledge is assumed on the system dynamics and the Mamdani fuzzy controller is used with a rule base that satisfy the Lyapunov stability criterion. The fuzzy membership functions developed empirically and a centre of gravity defuzzification method is used. All simulations are done in MATLAB/Simulink. The results of the numerical simulation are presented in the article.

Sufficient conditions that guarantee exponential decay to zero of the variable delay difference equation $x(n + 1) = a(n)x(n) + b(n)x(n − g(n))$ are obtained. These sufficient conditions are deduced via inequalities by employing Lyapunov functionals. In addition, a criterion for the instability of the zero solution is established. The results in the paper generalizes some results in the literature.

Continuous-time positive systems, switching among p subsystems whose matrices differ by a rank one matrix, are introduced, and a complete characterization of the existence of a common linear copositive Lyapunov function for all the subsystems is provided. Also, for this class of systems it is proved that a well-known necessary condition for asymptotic stability, namely the fact that All convex combinations of the system matrices are Hurwitz, becomes equivalent to the generally weaker condition that the systems matrices are Hurwitz. In the special case of two-dimensional systems, this allows for drawing a complete characterization of asymptotic stability. Finally, the case when there are only two subsystems, possibly with commuting matrices, is investigated.

This research work announces an eleven-term novel 4-D hyperchaotic system with two quadratic nonlinearities. We describe the qualitative properties of the novel 4-D hyperchaotic system and illustrate their phase portraits. We show that the novel 4-D hyperchaotic system has two unstable equilibrium points. The novel 4-D hyperchaotic system has the Lyapunov exponents L1 = 3.1575, L2 = 0.3035, L3 = 0 and L4 = −33.4180. The Kaplan-Yorke dimension of this novel hyperchaotic system is found as DKY = 3.1026. Since the sum of the Lyapunov exponents of the novel hyperchaotic system is negative, we deduce that the novel hyperchaotic system is dissipative. Next, an adaptive controller is designed to stabilize the novel 4-D hyperchaotic system with unknown system parameters. Moreover, an adaptive controller is designed to achieve global hyperchaos synchronization of the identical novel 4-D hyperchaotic systems with unknown system parameters. The adaptive control results are established using Lyapunov stability theory. MATLAB simulations are depicted to illustrate all the main results derived in this research work

Asymptotic properties of various semidynamical systems can be examined by means of continuous subadditive processes. To investigate such processes we consider different types of exponents: characteristic, central, singular and global exponents and we study their properties. We derive formulae for central and singular exponents and show that they provide upper bounds for characteristic exponents. The concept of conjugate processes introduced in this paper allows us to find lower bounds for characteristic exponents. We also give applications to continuous cocycles.
