Opis:
The Diocesan Museum in Łomża was established in 2012. On April 16 of that year officially, in the presence of the Apostolic Nuncio in Poland, a new cultural institution initiated its activities. That day was the culmination of the wishes of many generations of priests who wanted the diocese to have its own museum with different collections of art. The space occupied by the Diocesan Museum in Łomża is a place where every visitor can learn about the history of the Diocese. About 450 m2 of the building are dedicated to expositions. The main room of the museum has as its title: “Between heaven and earth” and it is a gallery of sculpture and painting. The second room was given the name: “On the rectory”. Its arrangement is an attempt to recreate the interior of a rectory, which as a house and a meeting place is an integral part of the functioning of every parish. The next room is called “Treasury”. The objects gathered there are mainly made of silver and gold, as well as copper and brass. The exhibited collection includes: monstrances, chalices, crosses, reliquaries, ampoules, bells. The oldest chalices on display come from the Gothic period. The newest present in the collection are from the twentieth century. Thanks to the determination of the Bishop of Łomża Stanislaw Stefanek and his successor, Bishop Janusz Stepnowski, the Diocesan Museum officially inaugurated its activities on April 16, 2012. A year later, on April 8, 2013 a further display room was opened, set aside for temporary exhibitions. These are changed regularly and the large number of visitors of the exhibitions is for us an expression of gratitude for the work that is being done. During a year and a half that the Museum is opened, it has been visited by over 10,000 people. We are happy because of the interest not only of the local inhabitants, but also of groups from the whole of Poland and from abroad. In addition to the possibility of seeing the exhibits, we are also prepared to conduct museum lessons in a specially prepared room for such encounters, by earlier appointment. Thus, learning about local history can be connected with spending time in a creative and joyful way. W artykule opisano, zorganizowany w 1949 roku w kościele katedralnym w Łomży, koncert ku czci świętej Cecylii. Organizatorem jego był wileński muzyk – dyrygent i organista – Władysław Kalinowski, który po II wojnie światowej zamieszkał w Łomży. W czasie koncertu chór katedralny pod dyrekcją Władysława Kalinowskiego wykonał utwory wokalne, między innymi Antoniego Szuniewicza, Franciszka Szuberta, Antoniego Chlondowskiego, a Kalinowski zagrał na organach kompozycje Franciszka Liszta i Miczysława Surzyńskiego.
The article describes a concert in honor of St. Cecilia. It took place in 1949, in the cathedral church in Lomza. The organizer was Vilnius musician – conductor and organist – Wladyslaw Kalinowski, who after World War II settled in Lomza. During the concert cathedral choir under the direction of Wladyslaw Kalinowski has done vocal among others: Antoniego Szuniewicza, Franciszka Schuberta, Antoniego Chlondowskiego. Kalinowski played the organ compositions by Franciszka Liszt and Miczysława Surzyńskiego.

In the article, Regensburg music inspirations in sacred liturgies of the Łomża Cathedral Church in the years 1949–1951 are described. They were introduced by a Vilnius musician – Władysław Kalinowski – a graduate of the School of Church Music in Regensburg – who after the Second World War (as a result of the resettlement which for many years was called repatriation) settled in Łomża, where, encouraged by the Vilnius bishop Czesław Falkowski, started working as an organist and a choir conductor.
W artykule opisane zostały regensburskie inspiracje muzyczne w liturgii sakralnej łomżyńskiego Kościoła katedralnego w latach 1949–1951. Zostały one wprowadzone przez wileńskiego muzyka – Władysława Kalinowskiego – absolwenta Szkoły Muzyki Kościelnej w Regensburgu – który po II wojnie światowej (w ramach przesiedlenia zwanego przez lata repatriacją) zamieszkał w Łomży, gdzie za namową ówczesnego biskupa wileńskiego Czesława Falkowskiego podjął pracę organisty i dyrygenta chóru.

Next to shift the course of events in the article was also outline the background to the conflict, as well as answers to questions about how the incident occurred, who was his main inspiration and organizer of why the celebration of the funeral of Marshal Pilsudski in the diocese of Lomża turned into a political and an anti-Church and then ended the whole thing.

In the Łomża region, northeastern Poland, many new lacustrine and peat deposits have been found. Pollen analysis of borehole material shows that they accumulated mostly during the Eemian Interglacial. Parts of these sites were active in the Vistulian, probably in its early phases. The sites analysed usually represent small lakes or peat-bogs sediment with accumulating in different time intervals of the Eemian. Only exceptionally they are represented by deep-water facies with a decrease in water level not before the hornbeam zone, as seen at many Eemian sites in Poland. Especially interesting is the occurrence in the pollen spectra of a number of exotic taxa such as Viburnum lantana, Bruckenthalia spiculifolia, Falcaria vulgaris, Lycopodium lucidulum t. noted previously in the Eemian Interglacial mainly in the south and in the southeastern Poland, where milder climatic conditions prevailed. The analysed interglacial spectra also show signs of plant—animal interaction. Such signs have been observed in Holocene and Vistulian strata, although in other pollen taxa. Pollen affected by these processes may come to resemble other species and so be misidentified.

Tematem artykułu jest historia młodej kilkunastoletniej dziewczyny żydowskiego pochodzenia z Łodzi - Barbary Bulwy, która ucieka przed niechybną śmiercią z rąk hitlerowców. Trafia do getta w Białymstoku, skąd wydostaje się zdobywając fałszywą metrykę. Pracuje jako pomoc w niemieckiej rodzinie, ale podejrzewana o żydowskie pochodzenie zmienia pracę. W 1943 roku wychodzi za mąż za Polaka - żołnierza Armii Krajowej. Po jego wywózce do Niemiec i zakończeniu wojny w 1945 roku podejmuje pracę w Powiatowym Urzędzie Bezpieczeństwa w Łomży. Tymczasem do kraju wraca mąż i wspólnie zaczynają pracę na rzecz wywiadu AK. W tym samym czasie w Urzędzie Bezpieczeństwa poznaje swego drugiego męża Albina Baryckiego, zakochuje się i unieważnia swoje pierwsze małżeństwo. W związku rodzi się dwoje dzieci. W międzyczasie aresztowani zostają żołnierze AK, z którymi Barbara Bulwa vel Kosiewska vel Barycka współpracowała w przeszłości dla Obwodu Armii Krajowej w Łomży.

Charity is an integral part of the Churchʼs ministry, and active charity is one of the Christianʼs basic duties (cf. Mt 25, 35-45). The Church follows in the footsteps of her Founder, who loved us and showed us this love not only through the Sacrifice of Salvation, but also through works of mercy (cf. Mt 11, 5). Therefore, he not only proclaims the love of neighbor and obliges him to perform acts of mercy, but also gives charitable activities institutional forms, making caring for the poor one of the main tasks of the deaconʼs office (Acts 6, 1-6). In Poland, the traditions of this activity date back to the beginnings of the Piast state. Over the centuries, it was mainly animated and led by bishops and religious orders, but also brotherhoods and lay people. It was similar in the interwar period and in the Lomza diocese, except that the nature and forms of this activity were adapted to the changing socio-political conditions after the war. And so, in the first period, emphasis was placed mainly on the organizational and coordination side of charity, and since the economic crisis in 1929 and the development of Catholic Action, primarily on specific charity work and refining its methods. By charity we will understand the entire charity campaign carried out in the interwar diocese of Lomza. It was based mainly on Parish Committees of Relief, consisting mainly of Vincentian associations and Catholic Action, 2) charitable institutions and foundations; 3) the activities of religious orders, in particular the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy of Saint. Opis:
Avenues for a long time have been one of the fundamental components of the country landscape. Straight roads connecting manors and farms on Polish territory, were lined with trees. The avenue would also serve as a composition and sight axis. They would also connect the residential areas of parks and gardens with other dominant objects in the surrounding landscape, such as palaces, manors, farms etc. Common lime (Tilia cordata) is a native species to Poland. Therefore it was often used as an avenue tree in different regions of our country. Lime avenues are numerous in Podlasie and some other provinces (which used to be a part of Łomża province). Four lime avenues in Łomża vicinity were chosen to show the actual meaning of relic avenues in the contemporary agricultural landscape, and to formulate some conclusions concerning the possibilities of their protection and survival. Growing antropopressure has caused the vicinity of the relic avenues to undergo some unfavorable changes. Roads which had once been used only by horse drawn transport, became busy communication tracks. Avenue trees remaining in such conditions without necessary care had no chance of survival. Nowadays old avenues do not serve the roles for which they were originally meant. Nevertheless they are of great value even now but for other reasons. They represent exceptional landscape qualities, and in many cases (e.g. the avenue in Puchały) are the only remaining relics of ancient manors. It can be said that old avenues just as other relics bridge the past and the present together. They are our cultural and natural heritage. We should endeavour to keep and conserve the traditional virtues of our home landscape, from which old avenues are inseparable.

This paper presents new distribution stands for 70 species of lichenized town from Łomża town (Podlasie, NE Poland). The investigations in the area of Łomża were carried out in the years 2014–2015, on 34 research stands. Seven species have been put on the Red list of the lichens in Poland (Cieśliński et al. 2006), including Rhizocarpon lavatum in critically endangered – CR, Ramalina fastigiata, R. fraxinea in the endangered category – EN, in the Ramalina farinacea in the vulnerable category – VU and Evernia prunastri, Hypogymnia tubulosa, Physcia aipolia in the category of near threatened – NT and five have been put under legal protection, two of which are strictly (Ramalina fastigiata, R. fraxinea) and three of which are partially protected (Cladonia arbuscula, Hypogymnia tubulosa, Ramalina farinacea). The lichens occur on following substrate types: soil, decaying wood, bark of all trees and shrubs species, boulders, concrete, foundation, mortar, plaster and bryophytes.

The article is the question of the relation of the Church Lomza political parties during the Second Republic. It found that the sympathies of the Diocese of Lomza deposited on the side of the Catholic-national groups. Norma was also that none of the party software struggling with the Church and religion, or not recognizing the principles and norms of Catholic could not count on Catholics. The latter groups were included mainly PSL “Liberation”, PPS and Communist parties. Emphasized the fact that the political options of Catholics should be consistent with the value system of the Gospel. This applies to the fact that Catholics supported the forces and political movements which, in relation to the basic ethical took a position contrary to the moral and social teaching of the Church.

Research using lichens as bioindicators of air pollution has been conducted in the city of Łomża. The presence of indicator species of epiphytic and epilithic lichens has been analysed. A 4-point lichen scale has been developed for the test area, on the basis of which four lichenoindication zones have been determined. The least favourable conditions for lichen growth have been recorded in the city center. Green areas and open spaces are the areas with the most favourable impact of the urban environment on lichen biota.

Opis:
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie roli organizacji pozarządowych w procesie integracji migrantów w Polsce. Egzemplifikacją teoretycznych rozważań jest analiza działań podejmowanych przez lokalną organizację pozarządową wobec migrantów w Łomży. Artykuł powstał na podstawie analizy desk research oraz badań terenowych, w których posłużono się techniką indywidualnych wywiadów pogłębionych prowadzonych z przedstawicielami władz lokalnych oraz organizacji pozarządowych. Analiza działań organizacji pozarządowej podejmowanych wobec migrantów w Łomży wykazała, że są to działania typowe dla tego typu podmiotów. Jednak fakt podejmowania działań w średniej wielkości mieście nadawał tej aktywności szczególną specyfikę, niespotykaną w dużych miastach.
The aim of the article is to present the role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the process of migrant integration in Poland. To achieve this goal, a case study of Łomża and actions taken by a local NGO towards migrants are analyzed. The article was written on the basis of desk research and field research, in which the technique of individual in-depth interviews conducted with the representatives of local authorities and non-governmental organizations was used. The analysis of the NGOs' activities towards the migrants in Łomża showed that these are typical activities taken by NGOs. However, the fact that these actions have taken place in a medium-sized city make it unique, different from the activities taking place in other large cities.

Kościół parafialny pw. Narodzenia Najświętszej Panny Marii wzniesiony na miejscu wzmiankowanej w 1738 roku drewnianej kaplicy. Parafia erygowana w 1778 roku przez Michała Jerzego Poniatowskiego, biskupa płockiego, staraniem Kazimierza Krasińskiego. Kościół drewniany wzniesiony został w 1781 roku, kolejny, również drewniany, w około 1870 roku, zastąpiony murowanym z okresu 1910–1914, według projektu Juliusza Dzierżanowskiego i Jarosława Mariana Wojciechowskiego. Zbudowany w stylu neogotyckim, murowany z cegły, halowy, trzynawowy z transeptem, z wielobocznie zamkniętym prezbiterium i z dwiema wieżami. W ołtarzu głównym obraz Matki Boskiej ze śpiącym Dzieciątkiem i św. Janem Chrzcicielem z pierwszej połowy XVIII wieku.
Parish Church of the Nativity of St. Mary was built in 1738 in a place of wooden chapel. Parish erected in 1778 by Michael George Poniatowski, Bishop of Plock, thanks to the efforts of Kazimierz Krasinski. The wooden church built in 1781 and another also timber in approx. 1870 was replaced a brick from the period 1910 to 1914, according to the design of Julius Dzierżanowski and Jaroslaw Marian Wojciechowski. It was built in neo-Gothic style as brick, hall, three-aisles with transept, a closed side prosbytery and two towers. In the main altar there is an image of the Virgin with sleeping Child and Saint John the Baptist from the XVIII century.
