The standard industry practice in publishing or audiovisual translation should be mentioning the translators for their work in the credits. When it comes to technical texts, for example manuals or localized texts such as websites, translators or localizers are hardly ever mentioned, especially when translation agencies provide the entire process of translation or localization. Digital games usually do contain credits listing all people working on a digital game, but such lists tend to leave out translators or localizers. The paper aims to investigate the issue of crediting digital game translators or localizers in Slovak digital games and show different crediting practices. We inspect credits in digital games made by Slovak developers and show different crediting practices in the industry. We examine the use of credits in Slovak digital games and rationalize the situation by looking at the localization of digital games, localization training at Slovak universities, and language support for Slovak digital games. The paper contains reviews of 69 selected computer and mobile device games published by 34 studios or developers.

Coraz więcej osób korzysta codziennie z różnego rodzaju zlokalizowanych produktów, których treści przetłumaczono i dostosowano do wymogów polskiego rynku i odbiorcy. Lokalizacja to obecnie najbardziej dynamicznie rozwijająca się gałąź usług tłumaczeniowych, generująca ogromne obroty i wymagająca wykwalifikowanych lokalizatorów, których jednak niezwykle trudno znaleźć. Uniwersyteckie programy kształcenia tłumaczy koncentrują się zazwyczaj na przekładzie literackim, niekiedy prawnym i prawniczym, podczas gdy od tłumacza-lokalizatora wymaga się nieco innego zestawu umiejętności niż od tłumacza tekstów literackich bądź prawnych i prawniczych. Studenci rozważający podjęcie pracy lokalizatora są zazwyczaj skazani na samodzielną naukę i zdanie się na intuicję. Wykładowcy uniwersyteccy natomiast często uważają, że ta dziedzina tłumaczeń nie wymaga specjalnych rozwiązań dydaktycznych ani umiejętności, a zadania stawiane przed lokalizatorami są trywialnie proste (w szczególności w ich językowym aspekcie). Artykuł przedstawia problemy i wyzwania związane z kształtowaniem językowych i pozajęzykowych kompetencji tłumaczy-lokalizatorów oraz proponuje model nauczania przedmiotu „Lokalizacja”.
Various types of localized products are being used by more and more people with increasing frequency. Contents of such products are translated and made appropriate to the Polish market and user (localized). Localization is the most dynamic sector of the translation industry, generates substantial sales volumes and requires highly qualified localizers who are still relatively difficult to find. University translation courses usually focus on literary translation and sometimes also cover legal texts, whereas translators-localizers are expected to possess a slightly different skill set. Students planning a career as localizers are usually resigned to self-study and intuition. University teachers often believe that this translation modality does not require any special didactic approach or abilities, and that the tasks faced by localizers are trivially simple (especially in their linguistic aspect). The article presents issues and challenges related to developing linguistic and non-linguistic competences of translators-localizers. Finally a model university course in localization is described.

The performance and efficiency of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is typically subject to techniques used in data routing, clustering, and localization. Being primarily driven by resource constraints, a Socionomic model has been formulated to optimize resource usage and boost collaboration among sensor nodes. In this paper, we present several experimental results to ascertain the underlying philosophy of the Socionomic model for improving network lifetime of resource constrained devices - such as, sensor nodes.

Campylobacter is an asaccharolytic microorganism which uses amino acids as a source of carbon and energy. CjaC/HisJ is a ligand-binding protein, a component of the ABC transport system. Campylobacter CjaC/HisJ is post-translationally modified by glycosylation. The number of glycosylation motifs present in the CjaC protein is species-specific. C. coli CjaC has two and C. jejuni one motif (E/DXNYS/T) which serves as a glycan acceptor. Although the two C. coli CjaC motifs have identical amino-acid sequences they are not glycosylated with the same efficiency. The efficacy of CjaC glycosylation in Escherichia coli containing the Campylobacter pgl locus is also rather low compared to that observed in the native host. The CjaC localization is host-dependent. Despite being a lipoprotein, CjaC is recovered in E. coli from the periplasmic space whereas in Campylobacter it is anchored to the inner membrane.

This paper aims at describing the way in which online translation platforms can facilitate the process of training translators. Zooniverse, a website hosting a variety of citizen science projects in which everyone can take part, was used as an example of such a concept. The first section of this paper is focused on the history, idea and general description of the website. In section two the online translation platform, which is connected with Zooniverse, has been presented in detail with emphasis put on advantages and weak points. Ideas for practical application of Zooniverse’s localization platform have been outlined in section three. Results have shown that localization platforms hold a great potential in terms of providing training for trainee translators. This is mostly because they offer basic experience in terms of simple computer assisted translation technologies and access to translations into other languages that have been already submitted. They are also characterized by simplicity and accessibility, as the platform can be used from any place all over the world. Zooniverse can, therefore, be the basis for further research on how the potential of such websites can be harnessed for more effective translator training.

The primary focus of the present article is the development of practices aimed at creating new language versions of video games in Poland. The historical outline concentrates on various forms that video game localization practices took throughout the years and juxtaposes them with global localization trends. Firstly, the initial attempts in the 1980s are discussed. Some of those projects were just adaptations of video games developed outside Poland and were not officially called localizations. Next, the first official distributing companies in Poland of the 1990s are described. The topic of gaming magazine articles which in the final decade of 20th century resembled user manuals is also discussed. Then the focus is on the first official localizations involving voice acting. After that, the process of illegal video game localization in Poland is discussed with the multifarious forms it took, the manners of combatting this phenomenon and a variety of examples. Later the turn of the centuries is depicted. This period witnessed numerous successful Polish localizations, which were prepared with considerable attachment to the quality of translation. The first decade of 21st century was the time when most Polish localization companies were established. The change of localization approach at the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century is discussed further. The 2010s provided more examples for partial localizations. The possible reasons for such an approach are also provided. However, these were also the times of a constantly growing number of English localizations of games developed in Poland. Subsequently, the discrepancy between the localizations commissioned by larger and independent companies are compared. Finally, the developments of the early 2020s are shown.

During implementation of leak detection and localization systems for liquid and gas pipelines the authors have met serious problems concerning reliability. The main problems were integrity (i.e. discontinuities) and quality of the input data acquired from telemetry systems, such as damages, bad calibration and drift of the measuring instruments and transmitters, bad balance between fluid entering and leaving the system and incorrect installation of temperature transmitters. The proposals how to overcome these problems have been presented.

We consider two standard group representations: one acting on functions by translations and dilations, the other by translations and modulations, and we study local Toeplitz operators based on them. Local Toeplitz operators are the averages of projection-valued functions $g ↦ P_{g,ϕ}$, where for a fixed function ϕ, $P_{g,ϕ}$ denotes the one-dimensional orthogonal projection on the function $U_gϕ$, U is a group representation and g is an element of the group. They are defined as integrals $ʃ_W P_{g,ϕ} dg$, where W is an open, relatively compact subset of a group. Our main result is a characterization of function spaces corresponding to local Toeplitz operators with pth power summable eigenvalues, 0 < p ≤ ∞.

In this paper, the localization of wideband source with an algorithm to track a moving source is investigated. To locate the wideband source, the estimation of two directions of arrival (DOA) of this source from two different arrays of sensors is used, and then, a recursive algorithm is applied to predict the moving source’s position. The DOA is estimated by coherent subspace methods, which use the focusing operators. Practical methods of the estimation of the coherent signal subspace are given and compared. Once the initial position is estimated, an algorithm of tracking the moving source is presented to predict its trajectory.

The objective of the paper is demonstration of the role of multi scale modelling in the system, which optimizes the whole production chain. Product exploitation and properties are the key parameters for formulation of the objective function in the optimization problem. Such parameters as fatigue resistance, wear resistance or thermal resistance are crucial for extending the life cycle of products, therefore, theoretical prediction of those parameters is inevitable for the optimization of the manufacturing system. Thus, the main focus in the paper is on description of the idea of multi scale modelling and on presentation of the multi scale model developed by the Authors. This model combines finite element (FE) solution of the macro scale problem with the cellular automata (CA) model of the micro scale phenomena. Simulation of the production chain is the second part of the paper. The chain under consideration is composed of stock heating, cold forging, machining and simulation of exploitation conditions. The correlation between the process parameters and the exploitation properties of the product is demonstrated. Finally, the optimization problem which would be the base of intelligent manufacturing, is formulated.

Mobile, personal devices are getting more capable every year. Equipped with advanced sensors, mobile devices can use them as a viable platform to implement and test more complex algorithms. This paper presents an energy-efficient person localization system allowing to detect already visited places. The presented approach combines two independent information sources: wireless WiFi adapter and camera. The resulting system achieves higher recognition rates than either of the separate approaches used alone. The evaluation of presented system is performed on three datasets recorded in buildings of different structure using a modern Android device.

Introduction: Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers occurring in Poland. Unfortunately, this cancer is most often diagnosed at the time of great advancement. This is caused by the appearance of specific symptoms only in the late stages of cancer. Also, such low detection of early stages of adenocarcinoma may be caused by disregarding of slight symptoms. Purpose: To analyse symptoms in patients with colorectal cancer and correlate with chosen clinical-pathological parameters. Materials and methods: The study group consisted of 46 patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Information on symptoms associated with cancer (subjective and objective) have been selected from patients' medical history. The presence of these symptoms was correlated with the age and sex of patients, tumor location, histological type of cancer, grade of histological malignancy (G), stage of tumor (T stage), presence of lymph node metastases and distant metastases. Results: It has been shown that the presence of pain complaints described by the patient are associated with the occurrence of cancer in the colon. The painfulness and pathological resistance diagnosed by the physician are more often associated with cancer located in the colon. In the case of tumors located in the rectum, faecal admixtures appear more frequently. It has also been shown that the presence of admixtures of blood and mucus in the stool is associated with more advanced local tumors, infiltrating pericolorectal tissues (T3 + T4). Conclusions: Familiarity with clinical symptoms of colorectal cancer could make patients more sensitive to more often screening for cancer. Analysis of these symptoms could indicate to the physician the location or stage of the cancer.

This article presents the notion of translation in the context of localizations of video games. It introduces a theory as well as analysis of chosen video games and studies the process of translation. The author considers the obstacles which can be encountered by translators, as well as methods which are used in the process of localization. The author analyses games from different genres: Ace Ventura (1997, adventure), Baldur’s Gate (1998, RPG) and Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos (2002, RTS), where the plot (and as a consequence its translation) is very important. The author studies fragments from these games and tries to explain and critique (if necessary) the choices taken by translators.

This article presents a wearable system that localizes people in the indoor environment, using data from inertial sensors. The sensors measure the parameters of human motion, tracking the movements of the torso and foot. For this purpose, they were integrated with shirt and the shoe insole. The values of acceleration measured by the sensors are sent via Bluetooth to a smartphone. The localization algorithm implemented on the smartphone, presented here, merges data from the shirt and the shoe to track the steps made by the user and filter out the localization errors caused by movements the shirt and torso. The experimental verification of the algorithm is also presented.

The economy spatial organization is a result of the trend towards concentration and a tendency to distraction. Although globalization leads to the global economic space homogenization, but simultaneously leads to the concentration of economic and social life in a relatively small number of sites whose locations are specially attractive. It is therefore essential to reconcile the local interests with the regional, national, international and global ones, but eluding to remain a “scansen”, and to become a colony. The author discusses the essence of the glocalization phenomenon as a “reverse” of the globalization. He draws attention to the changes in management, which occur in the economy and in its entities operating at the local level, which this process enforces. This is of particular importance in view of the disaggregation of national economic space and atomization of its components, at this stage of its development and advance-ment, implied by globalization, the author stresses.
Organizacja przestrzenna gospodarki jest wypadkową tendencji do koncentracji i tendencji do dekoncentracji. Choć globalizacja prowadzi do homogenizacji globalnej przestrzeni ekonomicznej, to jednocześnie prowadzi do koncentracji działalności gospodarczej i życia społecznego w relatywnie małej liczbie miejsc o szczególnej atrakcyjności lokalizacyjnej. Istotne zatem jest, aby pogodzić interes lokalny z regionalnym, krajowym, międzynarodowym i globalnym, nie pozostając zaściankiem, ani też nie stając się kolonią. Autor omawia istotę zjawiska glokalizacji, jako „rewersu” globalizacji. Zwraca uwagę na zmiany w zarządzaniu, jakim podlegają gospodarka i podmioty gospodarcze działające na poziomie lokalnym, które ten proces wymusza. Ma to szczególne znaczenie wobec implikowanej przez globalizację, na obecnym etapie jej rozwoju i zaawansowania, dezagregacji narodowych przestrzeni ekonomicznych oraz atomizacji składowych tych przestrzeni – podkreśla autor.
