Opis:
The chitinozoan successions (zonation) in the Llandovery and Wenlock deposits, accumulated along the northern shelf edge of the Livonian Basin, an embayment of the Palaeobaltic sea, is studied and used for time-rock correlation of the area. Analysis of the ranges of 180 taxa from 44 sections (41 of them well-sections) by graphic correlation revealed largely compatible successions of taxa as well as local stratigraphic gaps in both shelf and basin sections. Alternatives to graphic methods also produced composite standards based on stratigraphic relationships (below, co-occurring, or above) of taxonomic ranges and considered as palaeontological time scales (composites) similar to zonal schemes. We constructed such a scale using the DISTR algorithm to analyse the distribution of 84 taxa and recognized 41 datum planes. This scale includes the traditional regional and global chitinozoan zones and the associated chronological standards (including regional stages). The BioGraph and DISTR algorithms were used to study diversity changes, and to illustrate patterns of originations and extinctions of the chitinozoans. Correlation plots between composite standard and particular sections reveal variations in sedimentary rock accumulation patterns, supporting the results of sequence stratigraphic analysis of the study interval.

Opis:
The lower Llandovery black radiolarian cherts and shales of the Bardo Formation are interpreted as transgressive to highstand deposits produced by the marine flooding initiated in latest Ordovician time (persculptus graptolite zone). This formation was divided into the Rembów radiolarian chert Member and Zbrza shale Member. The sedimentary record of the Rembów Member was folded due to the late Caledonian tectonic activity. The accumulation of the radiolarian cherts was influenced by an upwelling system generated by the SE trade winds, which were active along the southern margin of the southern Holy Cross Mountains.

Opis:
Three isolated and well−preserved retiolitid taxa, two of them new, and one taxon of unknown affinity, are described from the upper Llandovery of Arctic Canada. All taxa display unusual characteristics The three retiolitids display extraordinary morphological features: Pseudoplegmatograptus cf. obesus preserves very delicate and lacey or cobweb−like list structures external to the main skeletal lists, structures previously seen only rarely on flattened material; Pileograptus pileatus gen. et sp. nov. possesses a thecal framework typical of retiolitines, particularly Stomatograptus, but its thecal orifices possess broad, meshwork genicular hoods similar to those in the plectograptines; and Giganteograptus giganteus, formerly attributed to Pseudoplegmatograptus, with its very coarse and relatively simple skeletal framework, well−developed paired thecal apertural spines, and a pustulose micro−ornamentation on the lists. The latter feature suggests an assignment to the subfamily Plectograptinae, rather than to the Retiolitinae as has been previously presumed. The presence of pustulose lists in Giganteograptus adds a further complication to understanding of retiolitid evolution. Mirorgraptus arcticus gen. et sp. nov., the fourth taxon and of unknown systematic affinity, lacks the proximal end, but preserves lists with seams and some fusellar material suggestive of some type of new retiolitid. Unlike known retiolitids or other graptolites, however, the skeletal list development is apparently confined to a narrow region along one side of the nema.
