Praca jest rozszerzeniem pracy Majechra(1978) na przypadek, gdy w równaniach warunków występują dodatkowe niewiadome (wielkości nie zmierzone). Zagadnienie rozwiązano metodą eliminacji niewiadomych (patrz Majcher(1982)) i sprowadzenia rozważanego problemu do przypadku wieloetapowego wyrównywania spostrzeżeń zawarunkowanych (patrz Majcher(1982). Ponadto wyprowadzono wzory na błędności i błędy średnie poprawek, wyrównanych spostrzeżeń i niewiadomych.
The following problem is considered: For a given (measured) vector l, a vector v is sought such that A(l+v)+By=w for some unknown y and v T v=min (matrices A, B and the vector w are given). Further, it is assumed that the system of equations has a partitioned form A j (l+v)+B j y=w j , j=1,···,n. Formulas for solutions are given, also in the partitioned form along with a multistage numerical algorithm.

The usual vector cross product of the three-dimensional Euclidian space is considered from an algebraic point of view. It is shown that many proofs, known from analytical geometry, can be distinctly simplified by using the matrix oriented approach. Moreover, by using the concept of generalized matrix inverse, we are able to facilitate the analysis of equations involving vector cross products.

A technique for computing an ILU preconditioner based on the factored approximate inverse (FAPINV) algorithm is presented. We show that this algorithm is well-defined for H-matrices. Moreover, when used in conjunction with Krylov-subspace-based iterative solvers such as the GMRES algorithm, results in reliable solvers. Numerical experiments on some test matrices are given to show the efficiency of the new ILU preconditioner.

Opis:
In this paper, we construct a ‘telling’ case to highlight a problematic inconsistency between the results of international large-scale assessments (ILSAs) and other studies of Swedish students’ knowledge of linear equations. In this context, a ‘telling’ case, based on the scrutiny of appropriately chosen cases, is presented as a social science counter-example to the prevailing view that ILSAs’ assessments are not only valid but should underpin systemic reform. Our ‘telling’ case comparison of the different forms of study shows that Swedish students, in contrast with the summative assertions of the different ILSAs, have a secure and relational understanding of linear equations that persists into adulthood. We conclude with a cautionary message for the curriculum authorities.

Let (F,D) be a differential field with the subfield of constants C (c ∈ C iff Dc=0). We consider linear differential equations (1) $Ly = D^{n}y + a_{n-1}D^{n-1}y+...+ a_{0}y = 0$, where $a_0,... ,a_n ∈ F$, and the solution y is in F or in some extension E of F (E ⊇ F). There always exists a (minimal, unique) extension E of F, where Ly=0 has a full system $y_1,... ,y_n$ of linearly independent (over C) solutions; it is called the Picard-Vessiot extension of F E = PV(F,Ly=0). The Galois group G(E|F) of an extension field E ⊇ F consists of all differential automorphisms of E leaving the elements of F fixed. If E = PV(F,Ly=0) is a Picard-Vessiot extension, then the elements g ∈ G(E|F) are n × n matrices, n= ord L, with entries from C, the field of constants. Is it possible to solve an equation (1) by means of linear differential equations of lower order ≤ n-1? We answer this question by giving neccessary and sufficient conditions concerning the Galois group G(E|F) and its Lie algebra A(E|F).

For a wide class of linear functional equations the solutions are generalized polynomials. The existence of non-trivial monomial terms of the solution strongly depends on the algebraic properties of some related families of parameters. As a continuation of the previous work [A. Varga, Cs. The authors consider the numerical solution of Ax=f, where A is a bounded invertible linear operator in a complex Banach space, (i) using only premultiplication of vectors by A and (ii) forming linear combinations of known vectors. Essentially, this involves the approximation of A^(−1) by polynomials in A. Several methods of computing this approximation are investigated.

Opis:
We consider the problem of uniform stabilization of nonlinear hyperbolic equations, epitomized by the following three canonical dynamics: (1) the wave equation in the natural state space L2(Ω) x H^-1(Ω), under nonlinear (and non-local) boundary dissipation in the Dirichlet B.C., as well as nonlinear internal damping; (2) a corresponding Kirchhoff equation in the natural state space [wzór), under nonlinear boundary dissipation in the 'moment' B.C. as well as nonlinear internal damping; (3) the system of dynamic elasticity corresponding to (1). All three dynamics possess a strong, hard-to-show 'boundary → boundary' regularity property, which was proved, also by invoking a micro-local argument, in Lasiecka and Triggiani (2004, 2008). This is by no means a general property of hyperbolic or hyperbolic-like dynamics (Lasiecka and Triggiani, 2003, 2008). The present paper, as a continuation of Lasiecka and Triggiani (2008), seeks to take advantage of this strong regularity property in the case of those PDE dynamics where it holds true. Thus, under the above boundary → boundary regularity, as well as exact controllability of the corresponding linear model, uniform stabilization of nonlinear models is obtained under minimal nonlinear assumptions, provided that a corresponding unique continuation property holds true. The treatment of the present paper is cast in the abstract setting (Lasiecka, 1989, 2001; Lasiecka and Triggiani, 2000, Ch. 7, 2003, 2008), which is proper for these hyperbolic dynamics and recovers the results of Lasiecka and Triggiani (2003, 2008) in the absence of the nonlinear interior damping, in particular in the linear case.

The paper presents various methods of solving systems of linear equations under conditions of uncertainty. In a situation when the parameters of such systems cannot be precisely determined with real numbers, they can be represented by interval numbers, fuzzy numbers or ordered fuzzy numbers. Solutions of systems of linear equations with such representations of parameters are shown in the example of Leontief input-output model. It has also been shown that when ordered fuzzy numbers are applied, their additional feature – orientation – can broaden and deepen economic analysis.
