Opis:
The dissolution of smithsonite in boric acid solutions was investigated. The influence of the reaction temperature, acid concentration, solid-to-liquid ratio, particle size and stirring speed on the zinc extraction were determined in the experiments. The results show that the dissolution rate increases with increasing acid concentration and reaction temperature, and with decreasing particle size and solid-to-liquid ratio. The dissolution results were analyzed by reaction control models. The activation energy of smithsonite in boric acid solution was also calculated.

Opis:
Acid leaching of Egyptian zinc ore from the Um Gheig area was carried out with sulfuric acid. This study determines the optimum conditions for dissolution of non-sulfide zinc ore. The optimum conditions are 25% -74m particle size, 45 °C temperature, 2 h leaching time, 1.1 stoichiometric molar ratio of H2SO4 to Zn, 1:3 solid/liquid ratio. The maximum filtration rate is 1.6 Mg Zn•m-2•day-1at pressure difference of 0.80 bar. The zinc recovery is about 90%. As the zinc ore contains zinc silicate, some additives were tested to enhance filtration and prevent formation of silica gel. To increase the added value of the product, zinc oxide was precipitated by a co-precipitation method in a nanosize powder with average particle size ~ 20 nm. Photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye under UV light using ZnO nanopowders produced at different conditions was investigated. Photocatalytic efficiency with methylene blue (MB) concentration was reduced as much as 85% in 240 min with the produced nanoparticles.

Opis:
A hubnerite (MnWO4) mineral concentrate was prepared from the mineralized quartz veins of Gabal Qash Amir muscovite granite. This W- concentrate was chemically processed to obtain the more economic highly pure tungsten oxide. To accomplish this goal, two successive atmospheric agitation leaching processes were conducted. The first includes HCl acid agitation leaching to breakdown hubnerite mineral structure. The purpose was also to get rid of the associated Mn and Fe contents from one hand, and to prepare the more important intermediate tungstic acid from the other hand. From the latter, a sodium tungstate (Na2HWO4) leach liquor was adequately prepared after applying the second atmospheric NaOH agitation leeching process using the optimum conditions of 40% caustic soda concentration at solid/ liquid ratio of 1/3, 180oC for 2h. Finally, 7% Alamine 336 in kerosene was used for extracting 93.7% of W content under the studied optimum conditions of O/A ratio of 1/1, contact time 7 min at room temperature (20±5oC) and pH of 8.

Celem pracy było określenie dystrybucji pierwiastków ziem rzadkich (REE) w procesie sekwencyjnego chemicznego ługowania próbek węgla z pokładu 404 KWK Pniówek. Na potrzeby pracy wykorzystano pięciostopniową zmodyfikowaną procedurę ługowania opisaną w pracy D.A. Spears.
The aim of the study was to determine the distribution of REE in coal using during the sequential chemical leaching of four coal samples from 404 seam of Ruda beds of “Pniówek” coal mine. The five digestion steps were used to determine REE distribution. In this study adopted the leaching procedure described in work D.A. Spears. The content of REE in obtained solutions was determined by ICP-MS method. The contents of REE in the samples was analyzed in coal and separately in the solutions which were products of the sequential leaching of inorganic and organic substances of coal. It was found that the REE content in coal samples is varied. The contents of REE were normalized to chondrites. It showed a small negative anomaly for Eu and larger positive anomaly for Gd. The enrichment in LREE of coal samples and respectively lower and less diverse of HREE content are shown on all of the normalized curves. The normalized curves obtained for chondrites REE content in the leaching products connected with organic substance (stage IV-V) have a similar course. The normalized curves obtained for chondrites REE content of the leaching products connected with mineral substance (stage I-III) for the individual samples of coal were similar. All these curves are characterized by positive anomalies in the range of Sm-Tb and enrichment in MREE relative to LREE.

The leaching conditions of chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) concentrate in a hydrogen peroxide medium were investigated by studying the effects of its leaching parameters, such as stirring speed, temperature, hydrogen peroxide concentration and the particle size of the concentrate on Cu extraction. It was found that stirring speed has no effect on the leaching. Copper extraction from chalcopyrite is directly proportional to hydrogen peroxide concentration, but the extraction decreases at temperatures above 60°C. The maximum copper extraction was obtained with the following conditions without stirring: 240 min of leaching time, 3.0 M hydrogen peroxide concentration, 40°C leaching temperature and 53-75 m particle size fraction.

Opis:
One of the major issue in gold chloride leaching is a tendency of gold to either precipitate or adsorb on a carbonaceous matter in an ore, i.e. preg-robbing. This paper discusses issues related to a preg-robbing phenomenon in gold hydrometallurgy, specifically in gold chloride-bromide leaching. This phenomenon has been observed in the 1800s to decrease gold recovery during gold chlorination as well as the state-of-art of gold cyanidation processes. The experiments were conducted in order to study the preg-robbing phenomenon in chloride-bromide media. The tendency of preg-robbing was demonstrated by adding carbon in a non-preg-robbing ore. It was shown that the preg-robbing tendency in the chloride-bromide media was very strong. Addition of 0.01% w/w of carbon powder into the non-preg-robbing ore decreased gold recovery from 92 to 70% and addition 5% w/w of carbon decreased gold recovery to almost zero.

Clay from Udi in Nigeria was mined, ground, and acid-leached at different concentrations of hydrochloric acid to produce adsorbents of varying properties. The raw and acid-leached samples were characterized using x-ray fluorescence (XRF) and Fourier transforms infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR) to examine the structural modifications in the clay as a result of acid-leaching. The analysis showed that the acid-leaching process caused several modifications of the clay samples. The surface area, Si/[Al + Fe + Mg] ratio, adsorption capacity were found to have increased in the acid-leached samples. The acid-leached samples were tested in order to ascertain their performance in bleaching palm oil and it was observed that the bleaching efficiency increased from 29.8% to 66.7%. The acid-leached sample prepared with 7M hydrochloric acid yielded an adsorbent that was efficient in bleaching palm oil under the experimental conditions. The isotherm analysis showed that the bleaching process followed the Freundlich equation.

Numerous solutions are used in the site to treat pollution, including remediation of heavy metals and hazardous wastes by solidification/stabilization (S/S) with cement as a binder. S/S is one of the most commonly methods used for treating inorganic wastes. The objective of this research was using unconfined compressive strength test, and EPA Toxicity Leaching Procedure TCLP method 1313, to test the effectiveness performance, and efficiency of the solidification/stabilization method for treatment of some heavy metals (Fe, Zn, Mn, Cr) contaminated sands using ordinary locally produced Portland Cement type A. In this study, three loads of pollution in three mix designs by contaminated sands were used. As a result of the unconfined compression test, it was observed that the value 1–15 MPa with OPC cement content 25% in the solidification/stabilization process was good enough to comply with the limited value set by the (US EPA). In addition, the concentration of zinc ions was 500 kg/mg, 1500 kg/mg, and 3000 kg/mg, which caused an increase in compressive strength in the early period of age, and a decrease at a later age. An increase in the iron ion concentration caused an increase in the compressive strength at a later age, the effective retention percentages were (97, 93.5, 96 and 92) for iron, zinc, manganese and chromium ions, respectively, which exceeded 3000 mg/kg initially. The high effectiveness in holding and retaining metals within the matrix of solidification/stabilization at the particle size above 9.5 mm was found as well. The samples (Mn and Cr) with the low amount of cement in the mix treatment were not able to retain the required TCLP regulatory limits value, and the initial extraction pH 4.9. However, the final pH 9.5 is alkanet and stabilization effects of the cement matrix.

Opis:
The study evaluated the effect of different acidic salivary pH values on monomer leaching and surface roughness of conventional and CAD/CAM processed (milled and 3D-printed) denture base materials. High-performance liquid chromatography was used to determine the quantity of residual methyl methacrylate monomer leaching after 30 days of immersion in acidic saliva. The surface roughness (Ra) before and after incubation was recorded using a non-contact optical profilometer. The monomer leaching and the surface roughness of the tested materials depended on the pH value of the saliva. The conventional denture framework material exhibited the highest and lowest leaching rates at pH=4.5 and pH=3.5, respectively, regardless of the treatment method. Among the CAD/CAM processed materials, the 3D-printed material showed the highest and lowest leaching at pH=5.5 and pH=3.5, respectively. Regardless of the pH, roughness after incubation was the lowest for conventional materials, and the highest for 3D printing.

Copper flue dusts, or copper Cottrell dusts, from three types of copper smelting furnaces were leached with different ammonia-based reagents (ammonium chloride, ammonium carbonate and aqueous ammonia solutions) to dissolve the oxidised copper species via the formation of copper-ammonia complexes, so that most of the copper-accompanying metals, especially iron, remained in the solid residue. Such copper-bearing dusts are not only valuable secondary source of copper but also are considered as hazardous materials and cannot be dumped as such. Therefore, two procedures for copper dust treatment are proposed, one of them includes ammonium-based leaching, liquid-liquid extraction with LIX 860 (aldoxime), LIX 84 (ketoxime) or LIX 54 (β-diketone) and electrowinning to grade A copper cathode. The other one covers also ammonium-based leaching followed by cementation with zinc to copper cement as a final product.

Sparse distribution of uranium, gold, boron and other minerals deposits are developed by the in-situ leaching (ISL) method. As a mineral, uranium is considered and the sulfuric acid is used as a solvent reagent in the governing reaction describing of uranium leaching process. At the problem decision the following assumptions was applied: the medium is homogeneous and isotropic, the density of solution and layer are constant, and solution flow on the layer border doesn't exist. Mathematical model of process is based on mass conservation equation, Darcy law, and transfer equation of reagent concentration in liquid phase, equation of useful element concentration in solid phase, and its transition to liquid phase. Distribution of hydro dynamical pressure, velocity field, distribution of uranium concentration in layer, reagent concentration and useful element concentration in product solution are obtained.

During the experiment, CO2 amount released from the dolomite was measured through the experimental apparatus to determine reaction orders and rate constants of the sample at the different temperatures by using the fractional life approach method. It was found that, reaction orders and rate constants, based on temperatures, changed from 1.505 to 1.339 and between 3.17 and 10.49 10–2 mol dm–3 sec–1 respectively. In addition, differences in reaction rate constants were examined with the Arrhenius equation and activation energy of the dissolution process was calculated as 16.69 kJ mol–1, which was consistent with the activation energies determined in literature.

Opis:
Copper oxide ore was pre-concentrated using near infrared sensor-based method and classified as product, middling and waste. The product and middling fractions were leached with ammonium chloride reagent. The effect of temperature, ammonium chloride concentration, solid- liquid ratio, stirring speed and particle size experimental variables were investigated. Mineralogical and chemical analysis of the ore fractions indicated that copper content was in accordance with the preconcentration strategy, with the product having a higher concentration than the middling and waste. The rate of copper extraction was found to be higher in the product than in the middling sample which further supports the near infrared classification, QEMSCAN®, X-ray diffraction, SEM mineralogical and X-ray florescence and Inductively coupled plasma Mass spectrometry chemical data. It was revealed that the leaching rate increases with increasing ammonium chloride concentration, temperature and decreasing ore particle size, stirring speed and solid-liquid ratio. Analysis of the experimental data by shrinking core model indicated that the dissolution kinetics follow the heterogeneous reaction model for the chemical control mechanism where the activation energies of 45.9 kJ/mol and 47.5 kJ/mol for product and middling fractions respectively were obtained. Characterization of the residue obtained at optimum leaching condition with X-ray diffraction suggests that copper was selectively leached when compared to the profile of the raw ore. The trace levels of metals associated with abundant X-ray diffraction profiles of residue found in the leachate further confirm the selective leaching process.
