    The focus of my paper is Alma López who draws from indigenous traditions and archetypes in order to rewrite them from a feminist perspective and provide Latinas with alternative paradigms for the construction of the 21st century identities. The main goal of the article is to analyze how López takes advantage of the polyvalence of the Virgin of Guadalupe, as part of traditional Mexican iconography, and reinterprets the traditional archetype from a queer and feminist perspective (Calvo, 2004: 202).

    The article examines a philosophy of studying America practiced for over five centuries. Following the ideas of Fernand Braudel, this work intends to present the evolution of studying (or knowing) America with partly structuralistic and partly functionalistic focus, which leads towards multifaceted interpretations of Amer-ican reality.
    El artículo trata de una filosofía del conocer de América practicado durante más de cinco siglos. Siguiendo las ideas de Fernand Braudel, se propone ver la evolución del conocimiento (o el saber) sobre América mediante un enfoque, en parte es-tructuralista, en parte funcionalista, que llevaría a las interpretaciones pluriangulares de América.

    Diante da incontestável relevância da mídia como campo de construção de sentidos sobre a soci-edade pós-industrial e seus conflitos, a proposta deste artigo é analisar o potencial discursivo das coberturas jornalísticas sobre os processos de deslocamento humano, por meio do estudo de caso interno da América Latina. Trata-se da imigração dos venezuelanos para o Brasil iniciada em 2015, pela porta do estado de Roraima, e o processo de interiorização desses imigrantes para ou-tros estados do país, desencadeado em abril de 2018. Pela ampla repercussão, por meio de co-mentários virtuais de matérias veiculadas no portal de notícias G1, das Organizações Globo, construímos nosso corpus com as três primeiras sobre o tema. A análise interroga os sentidos de identidade nacional indicados nas práticas de recepção das notícias do êxodo venezuelano para o Brasil. Abordamos o problema a partir de pensadores da comunicação e da cultura, como Jesús Martín-Barbero e Néstor García Canclini e estudiosos das questões de identidade, história e na-cionalidade, como Stuart Hall e Sérgio Buarque de Holanda. Os dados indicam o retorno da po-lêmica em torno das interpretações do “homem cordial” buarqueano, que permite compreender a recepção do brasileiro às notícias do corpus analisado.
    Faced with the undeniable relevance of the media as a field of construction of meanings about post-industrial society and its conflicts, this article analyzes the discursive potential of coverages to influence the processes of human displacement, through a case study in Latin America. The coverage analyzed the immigration of Venezuelans to Brazil starting in 2015, on route through the state of Roraima (North of Brazil), and the process of internalization of these immigrants to other states of the country; I assume the coverage was released in Apr 2018. Through virtual comments on the website of G1 news, Globo Organizations, we have built our corpus with the first three articles on the subject. The analysis questions the meanings of national identity indi-cated in the practices of receiving the news of Venezuelan exodus to Brazil. We approach the problem from the perspective of scholars of communication and culture, such as Jesús Martín-Barbero and Néstor Garcia Canclini and scholars of identity, history and nationality issues, such as Stuart Hall and Sérgio Buarque de Holanda. The data indicate the return of the controversy of interpretations of the “cordial man” (according to Buarque), allowing the understanding of the reception of Brazilians to the news of the analyzed corpus.

    Granica wraz z różnymi jej rolami oraz interpretacjami zawsze odgrywała znaczącą rolę w dyskursie latynoskim i autorek pochodzenia meksykańskiego w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Zmiany definicji paradygmatów przestrzennych, które pojawiały się od połowy wieku XX, zaowocowały różnorodnymi przedstawieniami granicy w literaturze, która zaczęła odzwierciedlać wielorakie role, jakie ta granica odgrywała. Jednym z rezultatów tychże zmian było przeniesienie uwagi w dyskursie przestrzennym z położenia/lokalizacji na mobilność, „z ziemi/terytorium na drogi/trasy” (Kaup 200). Ta zmiana z kolei doprowadziła do powstania alternatywnych koncepcji przestrzennych oraz przedefiniowania lokalizacji geograficznych, przyczyniając się między innymi do pojawienia się pojęcia przestrzeni istniejących pomiędzy innymi przestrzeniami (z ang. in-between spaces) oraz do zmiany w przedstawianiu granicy – od linii demarkacyjnej do strefy kontaktu. Biorąc pod uwagę współzależność między przestrzenią a konstruowaniem tożsamości, nowe pojęcia granicy miały wpływ na tożsamość Chicana. Współczesna literatura Chicana (autorek pochodzenia meksykańskiego w Stanach Zjednoczonych) często przedstawia drogi i trasy zamiast domów i mieszkań (Kaup 228) oraz zajmuje się kwestią budowania tożsamości w przestrzeniach pomiędzy innymi przestrzeniami (in-between spaces). Autorki meksykańskiego pochodzenia nierzadko analizują doświadczenia bohaterek/ów-nomadów podróżujących zarówno po Stanach Zjednoczonych i Meksyku, jak i pomiędzy tymi państwami, pokazując różnorakie przyczyny tych wypraw, oraz różne doświadczenia i rezultaty tych podróży. Celem tego artykułu jest analiza przedstawienia zmieniającego się pojęcia granicy w książce Reyny Grande, The Distance Between Us: A Memoir. Ponadto artykuł analizuje, w jaki sposób przekraczanie granic opisane przez autorkę przyczyniło się do poczucia wyobcowania odczuwanego przez główną bohaterkę i jej rodzinę, co z kolei wywołało u niej uczucie jednoczesnej przynależności do jakiegoś miejsca i braku takiego miejsca wraz z rosnącym odczuciem bycia „Innym”, które jest charakterystyczne dla procesu powstawania tożsamości ponadnarodowej.
    The border with its multiple roles and interpretations has always played an important role in Chicana and Latina discourse in the U.S. Redefinitions and redesigns of spatial paradigms that took place in the second half of the 20th century resulted in proliferation of border imagery in literature that presented complex roles of the border. The aforementioned transformations were reflected in the shift of focus in Chicana discourse on the spatial, from location to mobility, “from land to roads” (Kaup 200). This shift in turn, led to alterative constructions of space and remappings of geographic locations that included creation of in-between spaces and rewriting of the border from a demarcation line into a contact zone. Due to the interdependence between space and identity formation, the new concepts of the border predetermine a different approach towards Latina identity formation. Contemporary Chicana literature often focuses on roads rather than dwellings (Kaup 228) and discusses the issue of identity formation construed in in-between spaces. Chicana authors often examine the experience of nomadic subjects traveling both within the U.S. and/or Mexico or crossing the border, presenting multiple reasons behind such travels, as well as different experiences and outcomes resulting from these journeys. The purpose of this article is to analyze how the redefinitions of the border are reflected in Reyna Grande’s The Distance Between Us: A Memoir and how border crossings presented by the author contribute to the displacement of the main character and her family, triggering the notion of simultaneously belonging and unbelonging, or becoming “Othered,” which results in the construction of transnational identities.
