This article is a general introduction of liturgical books, with a special focus on the Gradual, which were funded by primate Jan Łaski ca. 1520 for the church in Łask. An exact number of the books is unknown, presumably there were nine of them. Seven books have been preserved until nowadays: two volumes of the Gradual, two volumes of the Antiphonary, two Psalters and one Cantatorium. Actually, the Graduals and one of the Psalters remain in the State Archive in Łódź.

United States Federal Executive ClemencySummaryThe article relates to the core principles underlying federal executiveclemency as an act that mitigates the punitive consequences resultingfrom a criminal conviction. Presidential clemency is also the least appreciated and most misunderstood of presidential powers – the Constitutionplaces no limits on the way the President exercises his power to pardon,except in cases of impeachment.The article gives a historical overview of the power of clemency in theU.S. Constitution. It also examines the evolution of the Supreme Court’sviews on clemency over the years, both substantively and procedurally,and how the Court has interpreted the power to grant pardons, conditional pardons, as well as amnesties, commutations of sentence, remissions of fines and forfeitures, and respites. It discusses the procedurefor clemency, including the role of the Pardon Attorney, and concludeswith a proposal of certain reforms to reinvigorate the federal pardonprocess and restore its moral force.

It contains toponomastic data on the property as Well as the legal and economic situation of Church at that time. It also provides information on the personnel and institutions connected With Church, such as hospitals and parish schools. The Latin edition of this description from 1880 is presented in this article. Its translation into Polish Was first published in 1817.

We can find the Mariological texts of St Thomas Aquinas in only a few of his works. Nonetheless, in his teaching he focused on Mariological issues of importance to theology. This article aimed to present Aquinas’ theology on the question of the fullness of grace in the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the first part of this article, in addition to the general historical context, the basic content on Aquinas’ theology of grace is introduced. In the following chapters, the author of the article, based on the teaching of St Thomas, sought to present the effects produced by the presence of full grace in the life of Mary, followed by a discussion of its three forms, which St Thomas related to the stages of the life of the Mother of Jesus. In summary, firmly grounded in Christoligy, St Thomas’ Mariology links the truth of Mary’s ‘full grace’ to the literal presence of Christ in her womb. Consequently, Aquinas regards the Incarnation of Christ as the sole source of the graces received by the Mother of Jesus.

The Right of Clemency at the State Level in the United StatesSummary The article discusses the core issues related to state-level clemency in the United States of America. This power is deeply rooted in American history. At this level clemency often serves as an important mechanism of checks and balances on the state judiciary; it enables error-correction in a state criminal justice system, it may afford relief from undue harshness, and it helps to ensure that the state justice system is tempered. Although it is not required by the federal constitution, each state has a constitutional provision addressing clemency. This article points out that an important difference compared with solutions at the federal level is that the power to exercise clemency at the state level is vested in either the governor, an executive clemency board, or a combination thereof, so an important part of the study was to determine the advantages and disadvantages of each of these solutions. Another important aspect of the study was to identify the determinants affecting the regulation and application of state clemency. The article also discusses (I) some legal methods to limit the power to pardon and (II) regulations which determine the transparency of the whole procedure.

The present article discusses the question of 16th century evangelic reformed church rite, which was introduced in London by Jan Łaski. Particularly, we have analyzed one of its elements – the form of saying the Sacrament of Lord‟s Supper. The Polish reformator organizing the Reformed Church in England with the acceptance of Edward VI, focused mainly on liturgy in its broad meaning, articulating all of its elements which must find their place in the church. He did not omit the theological questions basing his claims on the authority of the Bible. His thoughts were written down on the pages of the greatest work of his life entitled “Forma i całkowity porządek kościelnego posługiwania”, which we have used as the source document. The Sacrament of Lord‟s Supper seems to be interesting in the way that in the Reformation times it caused inquisitive and heated discussions in the heart of the Protestantism itself. However, the denominational situation in the Republic of Poland in the mid 16th century that is the fatherland of the reformator did not allow him to come back to his homeland, which he desperately desired. He dedicated his work to the Polish King Zygmunt August, expressing his hopes that it would find the reach soil in Polish multidenominational movement. Łaski indicated in details how he understood the sacrament of the Supper, and also how it should be said in the churches. He theologically proved that Mass is not the repetition of the sacrifice, which was once made on the cross by Christ, therefore he strongly rejected the papists‟ teaching concerning transubstantiation. He also polemized lively in this field with the followers of Lutheran Reformation, who saw the „reality‟ in the Sacrament of the Altar and at the same time he expressed his respect towards the father of the Reformation – Martin Luther. His reformation idea „sola scriptura‟ is particularly conspicuous in his writing, as each element of the liturgy concerning the Supper had its confirmation in the Bible. Łaski worked out the whole ceremony of the liturgy for the foreign – reformed Church in England. He also described how the life of the believers should look like, and similarly to Calvin in Institutio, he worked out the organizational model of the Church defining, beside theological basis, the religious life of the congregation and the duties of the pastors.

Zainteresowanie badawcze rodziną Łaskich herbu Korab przyniosło szereg interesujących prac oraz wielokrotnie więcej postulatów i pytań badawczych. Powstałe na przełomie XIX i XX w. opracowania wymagają dziś aktualizacji i uzupełnienia. Dotyczy to tak kwestii faktograficznych, jak i interpretacyjnych. W artykule autor podejmuje próbę realizacji tych postulatów w odniesieniu do czasu edukacji i peregrynacji trzech przedstawicieli rodziny z Łaska: Hieronima, Jana i Stanisława, synów Jarosława i Zuzanny z Bąkowej Góry, bratanków zaś kanclerza i prymasa Jana Łaskiego. Obok rekonstrukcji wydarzeń dokonano ponownej interpretacji zachowanego materiału źródłowego i zestawiono otrzymane wyniki z dotychczasowym stanem badań. Efektem tego zabiegu jest wskazanie powtarzanych przed dekady nieścisłości lub niemających ugruntowania źródłowego twierdzeń, które utrwaliły się w dotychczasowej historiografii.
Research interest in the Łaski family of Korab coat of arms resulted in an array of interesting works and several times more postulates and research queries. Studies from the turn of the 19th and 20th century need to be updated and completed. This concerns both the factual issues and interpretational ones. In his article the author undertakes to accomplish these postulates in relation to the period of education and peregrinations of three representatives of the family from Łask: Hieronim, Jan and Stanisław, sons of Jarosław and Zuzanna of Bąkowa Góra and nephews of chancellor and primate Jan Łaski. Apart from reconstructing some events, the author reinterpreted the preserved source material and juxtaposed the results with the previous state of research. This resulted in identifying some inaccuracies reproduced for decades or statements unconfirmed by any sources which are deep rooted in the historiography.

This article is a general introduction on liturgical books funded by primate Jan Łaski ca. 1520 for the church in Łask. An exact number of the books is unknown, presumably there were nine of them. Seven books have been preserved until nowadays: two volumes of the Gradual, two volumes of the Antiphonary, two Psalters and one Cantatorium. Actually, the Graduals and one of the Psalters remain in the State Archive in Łódź, both volumes of the Antiphonary in the Church Archive in Łask, the second Psalter in the Museum of Musical Instruments in Poznań, and cantatorium in the Library of the St. Mary’s Church in Kalisz. It can be stated with certainty that one volume of the Antiphonary is missing (originally there were three of them). There was likely one more book in the foundation – the author presumes that this was a missal.
Artykuł jest ogólnym spojrzeniem na księgi liturgiczne fundowane przez prymasa Jana Łaskiego ok. 1520 r. dla kościoła w rodzinnym Łasku. Dokładna liczba woluminów nie jest znana. Obecnie wiadomo o siedmiu: dwa tomy graduału (komplet), dwa tomy antyfonarza (trzeci zaginął), dwa psałterze i jednotomowe cantatorium. Graduały i jeden psałterz przechowywane są obecnie w Archiwum Miejskim w Łodzi, obydwa tomy antyfonarza znajdują się w Archiwum Kolegiaty w Łasku, drugi psałterz w Muzeum Instrumentów Muzycznych w Poznaniu. Intonarium znajduje się w Bibliotece Kolegiaty NMP w Kaliszu.

Niniejszy artykuł stanowi krótką charakterystykę prezydenckiego prawa łaski, jego zakresu przedmiotowego i podmiotowego oraz przede wszystkim próbę spojrzenia na tę instytucję z perspektywy osoby nim objętej i rzeczywistych skutków, jakie dla niej wywołuje. Z uwagi na aktualne orzecznictwo Trybunału Konstytucyjnego sytuację beneficjenta aktu łaski rozpatrywano z założeniem funkcjonowania abolicji indywidualnej w polskim porządku prawnym. W konsekwencji dokonano podziału prawa łaski na ułaskawienie – stosowane wobec osoby skazanej prawomocnym wyrokiem sądu oraz abolicję indywidualną – stosowaną zanim doszło do prawomocnego skazania. Następnie przeprowadzono analizę zarówno statusu prawnego osoby objętej prezydencką abolicją, jak i osoby objętej ułaskawieniem.
This article is a short description of the presidential pardon law, its objective and subjective scope and, above all, an attempt to look at this institution from the perspective of the person covered by it and the real effects it causes for them. Due to the current case-law of the Constitutional Tribunal, the situation of the pardon’s beneficiary was considered with the assumption that amnesty granted in individual cases would function in the Polish legal order. As a consequence, the right of clemency was divided into pardon applicable to a person convicted by a final court judgment and amnesty granted in individual cases used before a final conviction was made. Next, an analysis was carried out of both the legal status of the person covered by the presidential amnesty and of the person covered by the pardon.

Niedziele Wielkiego Postu cyklu A są szczególnym czasem chrzcielnej odnowy. Celebracje liturgiczne tych niedziel wprowadzają wierzących w przeżywanie wędrówki chrzcielnej, niemal w ponowne przemierzanie drogi katechumenów. Celem artykułu jest opracowanie kerygmatu pięciu niedziel Wielkiego Postu (cyklu A) w perspektywie chrzcielnej, aby ukazać, że celebracje tych niedziel są czasem na odnowienie łask chrzcielnych. Chodzi także o sformułowanie postulatów mających na celu odnowę współczesnego przepowiadania homilijnego niedziel Wielkiego Postu cyklu A, uwzględniając przy tym teologię homilii i współczesne nauczanie Kościoła na jej temat.
Sundays of Lent in Cycle A constitute a unique time for the baptismal renovation. The liturgical celebrations of these Sundays introduce believers to the experience of a baptismal journey, almost as if they were retracing the path of the catechumens. The aim of this article is a study of the kerygma of five Lenten Sundays (in Cycle A) in a baptismal perspective, aimed to show that these Sundays celebrations are the time for the reactivation of the graces of baptism. There are also conclusions, which may help in the revival of contemporary homiletical preaching of Lenten Sundays in Cycle A, taking into account the theology of homily and the contemporary teaching of the Church on it.
