Opis:
Text function of multi-leveled language means expressing the modal meaning of possibility as one of the explicators of the author’s modality in Leo Tolstoy’s novel Anna Karenina is considered in the article.The authors determine functional specificity of the given means in revealing the valuable aspects of the heroes of the novel Anna Karenina, ruining the main heroine and influencing severely the people close to her: children, husband and Vronsky. The article traces the role of the modal means in showing the dynamics of formation and spiritual negative transformation of vital views of the heroine contrasting to the „family ideas” of the author of the novel and accepted by his readers.

The article Cthulhu for Children. References to H. P. Lovecraft’s Works in John Bellairs and Brad Strickland’s Lewis Barnavelt Series discusses references to H. P. Lovecraft’s works in John Bellairs and Brad Strickland’s children’s horror novels about Lewis Barnavelt. Contemporary “children’s-like” books which make use of the Cthulhu Mythos are presented, as well as basic information about the series and relations between Bellairs and Lovecraft, which provide the foundation for an intertextual dialogue with the gentleman from Providence’s prose in the considered novels. Not only do the Lewis Barnavelt books, The Beast Under the Wizard’s Bridge in particular, utilize horror, but also ridicule it on the basis derived from the “great subversive play”. Therefore, carnivalesque world, in which ‘weak’ children defeat a Great Old One, contrasts with the universe known from Lovecraft’s writings, where humans, overwhelmed by the incomprehensibility and vastness of the cosmic power, are deprived of any hope.

In recent years, the “crisis of German studies” has become an increasingly current topic within academic discourse. This SUBJECT, more precisely defined as “legitimation crisis of traditional German studies”, has been long debated in Germany. Legitimation is a common principle in the fields of law, political science, and sociology. It refers to other principles such as ‘legitimity’ and ,justification’. Since the Nineties, the crisis in German literature studies appears to be rather an identity crisis, the origin of which can be seen in the centrifugal forces of attraction of several other disciplinary approaches. Something similar has happened – worldwide – in the field of German linguistics, and even in the branch of German as a Foreign Language teaching practice, due to the progressively increasing habit of providing the GFL-object with attributes specifying its specific purposes, for instance: German for Occupational Purposes, German for Business, German for Medical Purposes, for legal Professionals, Engineers, German for young, adult, senior learners etc. The question of which variety of German should be considered at the university level depends upon several factors, a simple answer is therefore not forthcoming. It is extremely important for the modern field of German studies especially within the “German as a Foreign Languagecountries”, that the object „GFL for humanistic purposes” be clearly defined, at least as a variety within the multiplicity of given alternatives.

The current curricula of the departments of Chinese in Korea emphasize language and literature, although most students in these departments would prefer an emphasis on curricula in the Chinese social sciences, with less emphasis on language and literature. The research reported here include surveys that identified needs as perceived by students, and contrasted these with studies of existing Korean departments of Chinese. This research indicates that Korean universities currently lack the ability to meet students’ needs. For more effective education, Chinese departments should offer two-track curricula, consisting of a language track and a social science track.

Artykuł przedstawia historię Katedry Języków i Literatur Słowiańskich na Uniwersytecie Fryburskim w Szwajcarii w latach 1980-2014. Jest opisem kształcenia polonistycznego od objęcia tej katedry przez prof. Rolpha Fiegutha do czasów obecnych. Nawiązuje i w pewnym sensie kontynuuje (choć nie tak szeroko) historię fryburskiej katedry spisaną i wydaną przez J. Starnawskiego w 1984 roku. Przywołuje osoby związane z polonistyką, pokazuje jej rozwój i dokonania. Artykuł napisany w roku obchodów 125-lecia Uniwersytetu Fryburskiego i jednocześnie rocznicy powstania Katedry Języków i Literatur Słowiańskich.
The article presents the history of the Chair of Slavic languages and literature at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland in the years 1980-2014. It describes the development of Polish studies from the time when Prof. Rolf Fieguth acceded to the chair to the present. The article refers to and in a sense continues (but without the scope) the history of the chair in Fribourg written and published by J. Starnawski in 1984. People connected with slavistics in Fribourg are evoked and its development and achievements are portrayed. The article has been written to mark the 125the Jubilee year of the University of Fribourg which marks as well the creation of the Chair of Slavic Languages and Literature.

Opis:
This paper focuses on policy of mother tongue education in Slavonic countries like the Czech Republic, Serbia, Slovakia and Poland. The presented article covers mainly issues concerning language policy in the context of teaching of national languages. The comparison shows that the common history of Slavs and socio-geographical factors don’t play important role in planning of the L1 Slavonic educational systems. The analysis reveals also the lack of interdependence between the Slavonic national curriculum. That is why the author proposes new direction in comparative studies to include the mother tongue education in the process of building the regional, cultural and economic community of the Slavs.
