This research aims at introducing a clear, sustainable framework for brownfield regeneration that focuses on the role of community in urban regeneration. The town of Al-Fuheis, Jordan, is losing its shine under clouds of dust and chemical emissions. It needs regeneration so that social and economic struggles can be simultaneously addressed through innovative regeneration. In order to reach this goal, a qualitative analysis was presented to introduce the general framework of brownfield regeneration. The structure of the framework depends on the researcher’s interpretation. Purposive sampling was used in this part of the study to involve the local community in taking decisions concerning regeneration. Their decisions must be considered during the master plan development. The brownfield regeneration model is summarized in a clear diagram. The results of a questionnaire analysis show the effective role of community to participate in urban regeneration. Applying the brownfield regeneration framework enhances the social, environmental, and economic value.

The goal of the paper is to indicate similarities and differences between strategic priorities of socio-economic development on the basis of research conducted in two local communities: Tymbark and Slopnice. The paper is based on a methodological approach called the AHP method, which is used to evaluate the benefits and costs of the basic criteria of socio-economic development and prioritizing models of development. The research indicates key factors of local development in the framework of the endogenous development paradigm. Moreover, the preferred development models have been chosen in the compared communities.

Opis:
Food security is one of the main problems under the pandemic and climate change condition that we currently face. Managing peatland to fulfill community needs faces several problems including peat fire, GHG emissions and loss of biodiversity. Agroforestry is one of land use systems on peatland that is capable of accommodating different interests while still concerning the conservation purposes. This study aimed to assess the potential of agroforestry for ensuring the food security of local communities. This research was carried out in the Kalampangan Village, Palangka Raya City central Kalimantan for six months. This study used both quantitative and qualitative approaches, including interviews and field observations. Interviews were carried out with 13 farmers in Kalampangan who applied an agroforestry system. The data gathered included all agroforestry components and number of the food production component. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed three agroforestry types were applied by the Village community Kalampangan, namely agrosilviculture, agrosilvopasture, and agrofisheries. The biodiversity of agroforestry in Kalapangan is relatively high, with a total of 58 different species identified. A total of 86% of all agroforestry components are sources of food, including fruits, vegetables, seeds, tubers, spices and livestock. The information above shows that the peatland agroforestry in the Kalampangan Village has the potential to support food security while maintaining the biodiversity. Thus, agroforestry can be recommended as a peatland land use and rehabilitation strategies to accommodate the basic needs of local communities and increasing their prosperity.

Corporate community engagement remains an under researched area in sustainability debates. Presenting a case study, based on in-depth interviews and site visits, of how one indigenous company Energia Ltd has formed a strong partnership or bond with the Emu-Ebendo community in the oil rich Niger Delta, the dynamics of corporate community engagement are critically discussed. Evidence of how both the company and community has benefited from this relationship is presented. The case analysis concludes that the company has effectively utilised a clearer understanding of the culture of the host community, leading to a transformational relationship. The approach adopted by Energia Ltd in the Emu-Ebendo community is unique in context. The key conclusion reached is that community benefit funds and community enterprise development, as a derivative of corporate engagement, can play a transformational role in societal and economic development.
Kwestia korporacyjnego zaangażowania społecznego nie jest często podejmowana w ramach debat o rozwoju zrównoważonym. Lukę tę uzupełnia niniejsze studium przypadku, oparte na szczegółowych wywiadach i pracy w terenie. Pokazujemy, w jaki sposób kompania Energia Ltd wprowadziła zasadę partnerstwa, w wyniku której nawiązała się silna więź pomiędzy firmą a społecznością Emu-Ebendo zamieszkującą bogatą w ropę Deltę Nigru. Przedstawiono dowody, jakie korzyści odniosły zarówno kompania, jak i społeczność. Przeprowadzono analiza pokazuje, że firma efektywnie wykorzystała zasady wyznaczające ramy kultury lokalnej społeczności, co prowadziło do pozytywnych zmian odnoszących się do wzajemnej relacji. Podejście przyjęte przez Energia Ltd wobec społeczności Emu-Ebendo jest nowatorskie. Okazało się, że fundusze świadczeń społecznych i społeczny rozwój przedsiębiorstw, będące pochodną zaangażowania korporacyjnego, mogą odgrywać podstawową rolę w przemianach społecznego i ekonomicznego rozwoju.

The subject matter has been presented on the basis of obligatory, quasi-obligatory and optional forms of satisfying collective needs of the community in the light of article 7 par. 1 point 17 of the Act on municipal self-government together with an indication of the role and significance of municipal bodies in the organizational and functional structure of the mechanisms presented, with the help of which the municipality’s own task is implemented. Discussing this task is important due to the fact that it is a form of implementation of the principle of subsidiarity and deconcentration in the self-government community.

The issues raised in this article present the organization and the tasks of the commune authorities in the Polish and in the French legal system, indicating their decision-making and executive function. The regulations concerning the organization and the operation of the commune authorities, outlined on the basis of the statutory regulations and the internal regulations, the output of the doctrine and the jurisprudence of administrative courts, are intended to identify the elements common and specific to these bodies. Creating good relations between the community authorities is of fundamental importance for the efficient exercise of power at the local level, hence the present issues are deemed crucial. De lege lata analysis of the research problems at hand will help to raise comments and postulates in the final assessment in respect of the relations between decision-making and executive authorities in the commune of both a personal as well as functional nature.
Problematyka poruszana w przedmiotowym artykule przedstawia organizację i zadania organów gminy w polskim oraz we francuskim porządku prawnym, wskazując na ich funkcję stanowiącą i wykonawczą. Unormowania dotyczące organizacji i działania organów gminy, nakreślone w oparciu o regulacje ustawowe oraz statutowe, dorobek doktryny, a także orzecznictwa sądowoadministracyjnego, mają na celu wskazanie elementów wspólnych dla tych organów oraz rozłącznych. Ułożenie dobrych relacji między organami gminy ma fundamentalne znaczenie w zakresie efektywnego wykonywania władzy na poziomie lokalnym, stąd ta problematyka jawi się jako istotna. Analiza de lege lata przedmiotowej problematyki badawczej pozwoli w ocenie końcowej na wysunięcie wniosków i postulatów dotyczących relacji między organami stanowiącymi i wykonawczymi w gminie zarówno o charakterze personalnym, jak i funkcjonalnym.

W artykule podjęto próbę określenia, jak działania podejmowane przez środowisko i społeczność lokalną na rzecz ucznia zdolnego są oceniane przez badanych studentów. Artykuł składa się z czterech części. W pierwszej określono, w jaki sposób definiowane są zdolności; w drugiej wymieniono i opisano funkcje, które środowisko przyjmuje wobec zdolności ucznia. W części trzeciej przeprowadzono analizę jakościową swobodnych wypowiedzi studentów. Następnie sformułowano wnioski.
The article attempts to determine how the actions taken by the environment and the community in support of the gifted student are evaluated by the students surveyed. The article consists of four parts. The first identifies how giftedness is defined; the second lists and describes the functions that the environment assumes towards the student’s giftedness. In the third part, a qualitative analysis of the students’ free statements was carried out. This is followed by the formulation of conclusions.

The starting point of this essay is a multidisciplinary study conducted by the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies of the Politecnico di Milano regarding the opportunities for the revitalisation of the almost 800 Community Cinemas owned by the Italian Catholic Church. These cinemas represent the local communities and are an important part of the contemporary Italian urban environment. Research shows that cinemas are threatened by how people currently consume audio-visual content, that there is a need to rethink the projection theatres as social gathering spaces open to the twenty-first-century neighbourhood, thanks to some features innate in the Community Cinemas that can be enhanced. Four case studies have been identified that represent the most common (or widest variation of) size and general layout among the 800 existing situations. A general model has been developed through the radical re-shaping of the space in accordance with new urban and social functions and implementing new technologies. By designing these case-study project solutions, it was possible to define that a new model of multipurpose social centre merged with a more traditional projection room is not only possible, but thanks to state-of-the-art technologies could represent a perfect match and an opportunity to make significant changes throughout a community.

Artykuł prezentuje nowe spojrzenie na znaczenie i funkcje muzeum regionalnego wobec zmian mających miejsce w świecie współczesnym. Zmiany te dotyczą samej filozofii człowieka, którego rola coraz mniej postrzegana jest w kategoriach supremacji wobec środowiska naturalnego, a coraz bardziej relacji równorzędności. Dalej, ma miejsce pomniejszanie roli państwa narodowego na rzecz społeczeństwa globalnego, poszerzając zarazem przestrzeń dla lokalizmów kulturowych, w tym regionalnych i mniejszościowych. Lokalizmy z kolei wykraczają poza sferę etnosu, obejmując swym zasięgiem podziały kulturowe z porządku typologicznego. Kryteria opisu osobliwości kulturowych wychodzą poza ramy afirmacji własnego dziedzictwa, skupiając się zarazem na jego ciemnych stronach. Te i inne procesy pociągają konieczność redefinicji misji muzeum regionalnego, którego wszak naczelnym zadaniem pozostaje eksponowanie genius loci, ducha miejsca, w którym muzeum funkcjonuje i którego ma wyrażać.
The article presents a new understanding of the meaning and functions of a regional museum in the face of changes taking place in the contemporary world. These changes concern the very philosophy of man, whose role is less perceived in terms of supremacy over the natural environment, and more in terms of equality. Next, the role of the nation-state is diminished for the benefit of the global society, at the same time expanding the space for cultural localisms, including regional and minority ones. Localisms, in turn, go beyond the sphere of ethnos, embracing cultural divisions of the typological order. The criteria for describing cultural peculiarities go beyond the affirmation of one's own heritage, while focusing on its dark sides. All of these and other processes make it necessary to redefine the mission of a regional museum, the main task of which, after all, is to display the genius loci, the spirit of the place where the museum operates and which it aims to express.

The article presents socio-demographic, physical-functional and cultural-symbolic change aspects of chosen local communities in Poland, which aretheresult of the gentrification process, making itself real in their space. In the first part of the article information about genesis and the course of gentrification with the characteristic of the main actors’ groups taking part in it is addressed. The second part of the article is devoted to the description of changes being experienced by local communities. A condition for organizational success is i. a. the ability to create a context in which informal and self-organizing entities like Communities of Knowledge would emerge in order to use them as a tool for knowledge creation and distribution in organization. The paper presents how organization can influ-ence forming and development of knowledge communities using personal and contextual factors in following dimensions: people, interactions, knowledge pro-cesses, and degree of integration with host organization.

Zrozumienie procesu tworzenia i transferu wiedzy wymaga nie tylko uwzględnienia jego aspektów w płaszczyźnie epistemologicznej, lecz także ontologicznej. W tej sytuacji wzrasta znaczenie kontekstu, tj. społeczno-kulturowego środowiska, w którym przebiega proces tworzenia wiedzy. Stanowi ono z jednej strony określone ramy determinujące współpracę jednostek, z drugiej natomiast definiuje granice transferu na zewnątrz wiedzy cichej. Przykładem tak rozumianego kontekstu tworzenia wiedzy jest wspólnota. W artykule zanalizowano podstawowe uwarunkowania procesu tworzenia i transferu wiedzy w płaszczyźnie epistemologicznej oraz ontologicznej, a także przedstawiono jego przebieg na przykładzie wspólnoty wiedzy.

W  tekście omówiono teorię kontroli społecznej na przykładzie kontroli rodzicielskiej oraz sposobów konformizowania swoich członków przez społeczność lokalną. Obie instytucje socjalizacji wymuszają porządek (ład) społeczny za pomocą dwóch form kontroli: bezpośredniej (zewnętrzne sankcje) oraz pośredniej (więź społeczna). W tekście dowodzi się, że umiarkowany poziom kontroli jest wyraźnym czynnikiem chroniącym przed przestępczością.
The text discusses the theory of social control on the example of parental control and local community ways to conform its members. Both institutions of socialization enforce the social order by means of two forms of control: direct (external sanctions) and indirect (social bond). The text argues that a moderate level of control is a protective factor for crime.
