    As part of a diplomatic tour to the United States in 2012, now ex-president of Argentina Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, gave a series of speeches at various institutions of higher learning. The Argentinean press covering the President’s visits coded their analysis following a melodramatic code reminiscent of popular serialized programming known in Latin America as telenovelas (Soap operas in the Anglo-American media context). Conservative and right leaning media outlets used the telenovela formula to construct Kirchner as a villain, due to her promotion of a populist participatory democracy in opposition to neoliberal economic policies. Journalists followed the Kirchner tour closely, and each of her visits were framed as episodes full of the genre’s markers with clearly delineated cliff-hangers, explosive revelations, and competing dichotomous characters. In order to understand the uses of melodramatic paradigm, I am proposing a close reading of the staging, performance and the speeches Kirchner held at Harvard University. I argue in this article that Kirchner employs the code of melodrama to speak to her constituents, but it is also her adversaries which frame a condemnation of the President using similarly structured telenovela paradigm. I am interested in addressing how the telenovela/ melodramatic code is appropriated by both opposing political sides and the implications this has on the television genre as a purveyor of political discourse.

    Opis:
    The main objective of this article is to discuss gender policies – proposals and agendas, legislation and political initiatives during the presidency of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in Argentina (2007–2015). Firstly, I analyze the achievements of Kirchner’s presidency on the discussed field – in legislation and in the fight against gender violence. Subsequently, I present failures and problems of the Kirchner’s agenda. In the conclusions I summarize the arguments presented in the article and consider whether the presidency of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner can be identified as a step forward in terms of gender equality, women’s empowerment and equal rights in Argentina.
    El objetivo principal del presente artículo es discutir las políticas de género –propuestas y agendas, legislación e iniciativas políticas durante la presidencia de Cristina Fernández de Kirchner en Argentina (2007–2015). Primero, analizo los éxitos de la presidencia de Cristina Fernández –en la legislación y en las cuestiones de la violencia de género. Luego, presento los problemas y las derrotas de la agenda kirchnerista en el ámbito de género. En la conclusión, resumo los argumentos presentados en el artículo y considero si la presidencia de Cristina Fernández de Kirchner puede ser identificada como un paso adelante en materia de la igualdad de géneros, los derechos igualitarios y el empoderamiento de las mujeres en Argentina.

    Włodzimierz Kirchner (1875-1970) – former priest, activist in the Łódź and Warsaw districts of the Christian Charity Association, he supported the efforts of the organisation by publishing articles on philanthropy. He was a proponent of the so-called ‘enlightened philanthropy’, i.e. he argued that social support cannot be of a spontaneous and chaotic character, but, rather, it should be controlled and monitored so that unemployment can be prevented. To justify his theses, the main of which was a conviction that giving alms was a waste of money and a tool spreading demoralisation, he conducted an analysis of dysfunctional communities, e.g. Bałuty (near Łódź back then). He depicted the inhabitants of the area (serving as a synecdoche of the dysfunctional communities throughout Poland) as a group of pretenders and impostors hustling potential benefactors by using a theatricalisation of behaviours which evoked empathy. He collected and published his conclusions in the brochure titled Walka z nędzą na Bałutach, which – due to its controversial recommendations of emotional restraint and the application of the method of control and monitoring – stirred aversion among various groups of intellectuals. Kirchner was accused of blind support of doctrines and extreme aestheticism, while the leftist press accused him of hypocrisy typical of the clergy.

    The present article is about the continuities and changings in the foreign policy of Argentina in the XXI century. The governments of the Kirchner’s, Macri and Fernándeza were functioning in different international conditions and have to adequate their foreign policy to these conditions. The Peronist considered the foreign policy as part of the internal policy. Macri saw the foreign policy as the basic policy of the state needed to achieve the interest of the state and independently from the need of the internal legitimization of the government. Despite the announces of change in the foreign policy of the Kirchner’s and Macri there was several commons elements and the changes where not substantial’s. From the point of view of Argentina the most important where the relations with the United States and Latin America.
