The article discusses the role of the archive in biographical narrations and the relationship between the biographer and the archive in research practice. It discusses author’s metacomment in contemporary biographies, articles on archive research, memoirs and novels (by A. Y. Kaplan, Ryszard Matuszewski, J. P. Sartre, Monika Rudaś-Grodzka, Joanna Krakowska, Joanna Kuciel-Frydryszak, Olof Lagercrantz and others). A key role in understanding their texts is played by a philological imagination and memory as elements of creating a biography, daily work in the archive and placing the biographer and the archive both in the process of creating knowledge and in the narrative figures.

The paper focuses on the different meanings that the idea of homeland is expressed in Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna’s poetry, comparing them also with what she writes about it in her prose and in private correspondence, in order to find out if and how her attitude toward identitarian matters changed during her long lifetime. Iłłakowiczówna’s case seems particularly relevant in this respect since she lived in a multicultural environment and happened to approach several languages and cultures, and also because of the tensions she had to endure due to the dramatic events that occurred in Central Europe in the course of the century.

The article shows how Kazimiera llłakowiczówna creates unreal worlds in her work. One can observe the creation process on several levels: title, description of characters and the whole text understood as a complete, specific picture of the unreal world.Poetical conceptualization of unreal worlds is based on many complex semantic and cultural associations of the words, ideas and symbols. It is connected with various types of composition and stylistic forms. The poet is very sensible with the language and its po- tential, uses it with consideration and great subtleness.

The pressure of war, living abroad in the face of a military conflict, has been a challenge for education throughout the ages. The aim of this article is to show the contemporary challenges of Polish education, which welcomes and supports Ukrainian students. In addition, the paper is comparative in nature, drawing on the Hungarian-Romanian experience of tutor, writer, and glottodidactician Kazimiera Ilłakowiczówna’s life in emigration. What were, and what are, the teaching methods and problems faced by the multicultural, multinational society of Central Europe? The work aims to show a mosaic of examples from the life of a Polish school, from teaching methodology and didactics. It is supposed to make us aware of the problems faced by contemporary education, which are echoed from the past of the Polish community during the Second World War in the 20th century.

The topic of this paper is Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna Children’s Rhymes – a book of poetic miniatures for children, to which Karol Szymanowski composed a set of songs for voice and piano entitled Children’s Rhymes Op. 49 in memory of his late niece Alusia. The author of this paper discusses the circumstances of the work’s composition and recalls the conflict between the poetess and the composer that arose when he got the songs published by the Universal-Edition publishing house without her permission. Next, the autor focuses on an intersemiotic analysis of the musical interpretation of the poems (dynamic, rythmical, agogic and melodic modifications), based on the conception of illustrating text with the use of sounds.
Szkic poświęcony jest Rymom dziecięcym Kazimiery Iłłakowiczówny – tomikowi miniatur poetyckich przeznaczonych dla dzieci, do których Karol Szymanowski skomponował cykl pieśni na głos i fortepian pt. Rymy dziecięce op. 49 zadedykowanych zmarłej siostrzenicy – Pamięci Alusi. Autorka szkicu przywołuje okoliczności napisania cyklu oraz wspomina o konflikcie, jaki powstał między poetką a kompozytorem, który bez zgody autorki wydał pieśni w wydawnictwie Universal-Edition. W dalszej części szkicu Autorka skupia uwagę na intersemiotycznej analizie muzycznego przekładu wierszy (zabiegi dynamiczne, rytmiczne, agogiczne oraz melodyczne), w którym przejawia się kompozytorski zamysł ilustrowania tekstu dźwiękami.

Autorki artykułu stawiają dwie tezy. Pierwsza mówi o misji udostępniania wytworów kultury, która przyświecała hrabiemu Raczyńskiemu w momencie fundacji w 1829 r. biblioteki oraz o aktualności tej misji w funkcjonowaniu oddziałów muzealnych Biblioteki Raczyńskich: Muzeum Literackiego Henryka Sienkiewicza (MLHS) i Mieszkania-Pracowni Kazimiery Iłłakowiczówny (MPKI). W drugiej tezie autorki dowodzą, że księgozbiory obu placówek są specyficzne – zawierają wyjątkowe książki oraz same jako całości mogą stać się obiektem badań literaturoznawców oraz językoznawców. Artykuł zawiera informacje na temat powstania Biblioteki Raczyńskich oraz ufundowania jej oddziałów muzealnych. W swoich analizach autorki dzielą księgozbiory na trzy zasadnicze kategorie: pozycje ofiarowane przez darczyńców, książki wyróżniające się wyglądem, utwory stworzone przez patronów placówek oraz dodatkową kategorię dla MPKI – książki stanowiące warsztat pracy pisarskiej. W obrębie tych kategorii wyróżnione i opisane zostały najbardziej interesujące pozycje.

Niniejszy artykuł porusza pomijane dotychczas w literaturze zagadnienie korespondencji wybitnej poetki i tłumaczki Kazimiery Iłłakowiczówny. Analiza charakteru spuścizny znajdującej się w czterech dużych bibliotekach: Bibliotece Kórnickiej PAN, Bibliotece Raczyńskich w Poznaniu, Wojewódzkiej i Miejskiej Bibliotece Publicznej w Bydgoszczy oraz Bibliotece Uniwersyteckiej w Poznaniu pozwala spojrzeć szerzej na problem niekompletnej i szczątkowej biografii poetki, równocześnie skupia tę rozproszoną dziś spuściznę. Bogata i różnorodna twórczość Kazimiery Iłłakowiczówny doczekała się wydania zbiorowego poezji (Toruń 1998) pod redakcją Jacka Biesiady i Aleksandry Żurawskiej--Włoszczyńskiej, inaczej jest z jej biografią. Zapomniany w historii literatury „słowik wileński” kryje się w swoich listach w archiwach zbiorów bibliotecznych. Bez Kazimiery Iłłakowiczówny barwna epoka międzywojenna wydaje się niekompletna. Traci mistrzynię osobliwej dyskrecji, metaforyzacji rzeczywistości oraz lekkiej ironii.
The present article discusses the correspondence of the distinguished poetess and translator, Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna. In the literature of the subject these issues have not yet been addressed adequately and satisfactorily. An analysis of the nature of the written legacy of the poetess, currently housed in four large Polish libraries: Kórnik Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Raczyński Municipal Library in Poznań, Public Library in Bydgoszcz and Poznań University Library, allows us to have a broad outlook to issues related to the incomplete and fragmented biography of the poetess. At the same time, it makes it possible to integrate somehow this dispersed legacy. The rich and varied literary output of Kazimiera Iłłakiewiczówna has been finally integrated with the edition of a collection of her poems (Toruń, 1998, ed. Jacek Biesiada and Aleksandra Żurawska-Wołoszyńska. Unfortunately, this is not the case with Iłłakiewiczówna’s biography. The mysteries of the biographical past of the nearly forgotten “Wilno nightingale” still remain to be discovered in archives and library collections. Without Iłłakiewiczówna, the colourful epoch of the literary interwar period seems though to be incomplete. It clearly lacks the mistress of the singular discreetness, methaphorization of realities and her irony light as a breath.

In the interwar period Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna had two meetings with her audience at the invitation of the Club of Polish Literature Students and Scholars of the Poznań University - on 25 February 1930 and 9 May 1933. On 23 February 1939 she took part in the 126th Literary Thursday. She read her works, alongside Emil Zegadłowicz, on 11 April 1931 at a special literary-artistic evening organized to mark the 10th anniversary of the Trade Union of Polish Writers in Poznań. In the discussed period Iłłakowiczówna's poems and critical studies pertaining to her artistic output appeared among others in „Dziennik Poznański", „Kurier Poznański" and „Tęcza". In the years 1919-1939 Iłłakowiczówna also paid private visits to Poznań and places in its vicinity, e.g. to Wierzenica, Kwilicz, Jurkowo.

This article discusses the literary dispute over Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna’s poetry collected in the Szeptem volume (1966). The dispute started with an ironic review by a young literary critic, Stanisław Barańczak, in the “Nurt” magazine published in Poznań. The article’s author interprets three aspects of the dispute: its legend-creating impact on Iłłakowiczówna as a literary institution, its destructive nature against Iłłakowiczówna as a canonical poet and the dispute’s status in the literary circles of the 1960s. The article provides evidence that Barańczak’s pamphlet hit the poetics and legend of Iłłakowiczówna; what is more, it triggered off a self-repair mechanism of the canon, reinforcing and sealing it from the pressure exerted by the young poets and critics in the late 1960s and the early 1970s. This mechanism, ephemeral from the point of view of the dynamics of literary circles, ultimately carved in stone the legend of Iłłakowiczówna, preventing new interpretations of her poetry and biography.

The linguistic image of an Angel in the poetry of Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna is highly related with the biography of this poet. In Iłłakowiczówna’s poetry we may notice that the experience of the World War I and II have had an impact on Iłłakowiczówna’s approach towards religion. Her uncertain attitude has been reflected in the image of an Angel, especially Guardian Angel that is not able to help people, because he is lost in the reality after World War I. The linguistic image of an Angel is similar to the common stereotype of an Angel that is pictured as a human being with light hair and complexion, aureole, wings and characteristic colors such as white, blue, golden and green. In few features the image of an Angel differs from the picture characteristic for the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Iłłakowiczówna makes Maria instead of Christos the center of the Angels world. This feature may be derived from Iłłakowiczówna’s orphanhood. The multitude of angels consist of not only Guardian Angel, but also Angel of a House, Angel of Consolation, December Angel and Angel of  Prompt. Their images existing in this poetry reflect the difficulties that Iłłakowiczówna has encountered in her life.

The article traces Polish translations of Dickinson’s poetry preceding and following the publication in the nineteen nineties of 200 poems by Emily Dickinson translated by Stanisław Barańczak. It comments on some Polish poets’ response to Dickinson in their own works and points to the growing body of publications online of private selections from Dickinson’s poems previously translated by established Polish poets (mostly Barańczak or Marjańska) as well as translations and original poems inspired by Dickinson’s work authored by less known poets, amateur translators and lovers of poetry. The article suggests that the increased Polish interest in Dickinson’s work is not only a kind of domino effect following Barańczak’s impressive translations. It also results from the growth of interest in translation studies and skills and must be related, too, to the fact that her poetry of private sensibility confronted with a dramatically changing world resonates with contemporary experience of the sensitive individual.

Two theses are formulated by the paper’s authors. The first speaks of the mission of making culture products available to the public, which was precisely the one Count Raczyński followed at the moment of founding the Library in 1829, and of the validity of this mission in the operations of the museum branches of the Raczyński Library: the Literary Museum of Henryk Sienkiewicz (MLHS) and the Flat-Studio of Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna (MPKI). The second thesis claims that the book collections of both institutions are very special: they contain exceptional books and their book collections as such can become the object of research for literary scholars and linguists. Furthermore, information on the creation of the Raczyński Library and on the foundation of its museum branches is provided. In their analyses the authors classify the book collections into three basic categories: donated items, books that stand out as for their appearance, works created by the institutions’ donors, and an additional category for MPKI: books serving as tools for writers. The most interesting items within each category have been distinguished and described.
Autorki artykułu stawiają dwie tezy. Pierwsza mówi o misji udostępniania wytworów kultury, która przyświecała hrabiemu Raczyńskiemu w momencie fundacji w 1829 r. biblioteki oraz o aktualności tej misji w funkcjonowaniu oddziałów muzealnych Biblioteki Raczyńskich: Muzeum Literackiego Henryka Sienkiewicza (MLHS) i Mieszkania-Pracowni Kazimiery Iłłakowiczówny (MPKI). W drugiej tezie autorki dowodzą, że księgozbiory obu placówek są specyficzne – zawierają wyjątkowe książki oraz same jako całości mogą stać się obiektem badań literaturoznawców oraz językoznawców. Artykuł zawiera informacje na temat powstania Biblioteki Raczyńskich oraz ufundowania jej oddziałów muzealnych.
