    The article presents the conclusions of the research conducted by the author in the collection of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp. The sources are fully featured and described for the first time. The article focuses on showing a complicated post-war history of the items connected with music (musical instruments, printings, manuscripts, handwritten copies of instrumental books), which are auxiliary sources to reconstruct the repertoire of chapels in KL Auschwitz-Birkenau. The main aim of the article is also to discuss the preserved repertoire. In the last chapter, the author presents a short characteristics of original works composed by musicians and composers in slavery with a short analysis of all of them. Presented musical printings are a reflection of tastes of the German public in the 1930s as well as an example of ridiculous anthropological establishments of Nazi music scientists and the lack of ability to implement it on listeners practice. In addition, the work contains annexes: musical instruments, original works composed during camp existence, and musical printings—a list of music materials which survived in the collection of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.

    Postać zamordowanego w KL Auschwitz proboszcza stała się po 1943 r. w pamięci zbiorowej wiejskich społeczności Stryszowa i Dąbrówki rodzajem figury pamięci z czasów okupacji, która współcześnie (wraz ze śmiercią ostatnich świadków przeszłości) zaczęła odchodzić w niepamięć. Pośród wielu opowieści (często o legendarnym charakterze) i dociekań o czysto spiskowej narracji zupełnie zatarła się działalność społeczna, katechetyczna i duszpasterska w Strszyowie ks. S. Żeliwskiego. Szkic biograficzny stał się dla autora nie tylko formą, służącą do zdementowania (czasem) nieprawdziwych wiadomości, co przede wszystkim przyczynkiem do poszerzenia stanu wiedzy na temat wydarzeń z lat 30. i 40. XX wieku w beskidzkich wsiach prywatnych –Stryszowie i Dąbrówce. W artykule zostały wykorzystane dotychczas nieznane badaczom źródła ze stryszowskiego archiwum parafialnego, uzupełnione o informacje pozyskane metodą oral history od ostatnich żyjących świadków przeszłości parafii Stryszów. Autor, bazując na fragmentach zachowanego testamentu ks. S. Żeliwskiego, przedstawił stryszowskiego proboszcza jako księdza, duszpasterza i katechetę oraz plebana z czasu największych niepokojów, a także zarysował proces monumentalizacji postaci S. Żeliwskiego przez jego następcę ks. Stanisława Wciślaka.
    After 1943, in the collective memory of the rural communities of Stryszów and Dąbrówka, the figure of Rev. Stanisław Żeliwski, murdered in Auschwitz, became a kind of a figure of memory from the times of the occupation, which nowadays began to fade into oblivion with the death of the last witnesses of the past. Among the many stories (often of legendary nature) and inquiries of purely conspiratorial narrative, the social, catechetical and pastoral activity of Rev, S. Żeliwski in Stryszów was completely forgotten. For the author, the biography became not only a way to deny (sometimes) untrue news, but primarily a tool to broaden the state of knowledge about the history of the 1930s and 1940s in a private village in the Beskids mountains (Stryszów and Dąbrówka). The article uses unknown sources of the parish archives of Stryszów, supplemented with information obtained through oral history from the last living witnesses of the past of the Stryszów parish. The author, basing on the fragments of the surviving testament of S. Żeliwski, presented the parish priest of Strysz as a priest, chaplain and catechist, and a vicar from the time of the greatest unrest, and outlined the process of the elevating the memory of S. Żeliwski by his successor, Rev. Stanisław Wciślak.

    The article presents the efforts of the Polish underground and diplomatic activities of the Polish government in London aimed at forcing the governments of the US and Great Britain with the support of other governments of the anti-Hitler coalition to issue a warning to the Germans against the effects of the murder of KL Auschwitz prisoners in the face of the approaching eastern front. As a result of the warning issued on 10 October 1944, Germany abandoned the murder of 7,000 prisoners who were unable to walk (mainly Jews, but also Poles and prisoners of other nationalities).
    Artykuł prezentuje wysiłki polskiego podziemia i działania dyplomatyczne rządu polskiego w Londynie, mające na celu wydanie przez rządy USA, Wielkiej Brytanii, przy poparciu innych rządów koalicji antyhitlerowskiej, ostrzeżenia Niemców przed skutkami wymordowania więźniów KL Auschwitz w obliczu zbliżania się frontu wschodniego. W wyniku ogłoszenia tego ostrzeżenia 10 X 1944 r. Niemcy zrezygnowali z wymordowania 7000 niezdolnych do pieszej ewakuacji więźniów (głównie Żydów, lecz także Polaków i osób innych narodowości).

    Artykuł ma na celu przedstawienie koncepcji badań nad procesami członków załogi SS byłego niemieckiego nazistowskiego obozu koncentracyjnego i zagłady Auschwitz-Birkenau przed sądami powszechnymi w Polsce w latach 1946‒1955. Przedstawiono w nim wybrane zagadnienia dotyczące analizowanej tematyki wraz z przykładową literaturą oraz niepełne dane statystyczne. W dostępnej w internecie bazie Załoga SS KL Auschwitz znajdują się informacje o 8502 SS-manach. Na podstawie zgromadzonych materiałów można stwierdzić, że w omawianym okresie liczba osób, co do których zachowały się jakiekolwiek dokumenty wymiaru sprawiedliwości, wynosi 722. Natomiast liczba SS-manów z załogi KL Auschwitz, co do których przeprowadzono postępowanie sądowe zakończone wyrokiem w Polsce, wynosi 695. Kolejnym krokiem w kierunku przeprowadzenia charakterystyki procesów SS-manów z załogi KL Auschwitz toczących się przed polskimi sądami winno być pełne opisanie stanu badań i literatury przedmiotu.
    The article aims to present the concept of research on the trials of the members of the SS garrison of the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau before common courts in Poland in the years 1946–1955. It presents selected issues related to the analyzed subject, along with an exemplary literature, and shows incomplete statistical data. Information about 8502 SS men can be found in the database The SS KL Auschwitz Garrison available on the Internet. On the basis of the collected materials, it can be concluded that in the period, the number of people for whom any documents of the judiciary have survived is 722. On the other hand, the number of SS men from the KL Auschwitz garrison, against whom court proceedings ended with a verdict in Poland, is 695. The next step towards characterizing the trials of SS-men from the KL Auschwitz garrison pending before Polish courts should be a complete description of the state of research and literature on the subject.

    The article indicates how the figure of Zofia Kossak has been recorded in the unpublished accounts by former KL Auschwitz-Birkenau female internees who during their internment came into contact with the famous writer and activist of the Polish Underground State. Their testimonies diverge from the hagiographic tone which has dominated the known stories of Kossak’s camp experiences, rather resembling Tadeusz Borowski’s infamous post-WWII article entitled Alicja w krainie czarów.

    This article analyzes how the postwar accounts by female prisoners of Birkenau presented the character of Zofia Kossak, the famous writer and the activist of the Polish Underground State. The accounts are held today in the Archives of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum and were hitherto unpublished. They shows Zofia Kossak in an unheroic way, contrary to the published testimonies of her camp experience. The accounts are reminiscent of the famous article Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland published by Tadeusz Borowski in 1947.

    Wojna lub bitwa nie zawsze oznaczają starcie z wrogiem zewnętrznym. Zanim III Rzesza przystąpiła do wojny, musiała uporać się najpierw ze swoimi wrogami wewnętrznymi – przeciwnikami politycznymi narodowych socjalistów – Żydami, homoseksualistami czy świadkami Jehowy. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest ukazanie procesu szkolenia esesmanów, których głównym zadaniem było nadzorowanie więźniów osadzonych w obozach koncentracyjnych i obozach zagłady. Skupiono się na roli ideologii narodowosocjalistycznej i jej wpływowi na postawę wartowników oraz wartości, jakie wpajano im w trakcie szkolenia i służby w kacetach. Głównym obiektem badań byli esesmani z garnizonu kompleksu obozowego Auschwitz-Birkenau. W świetle dokumentów zachowanych w Archiwum Państwowego Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau pokazano, że również tamtejsi strażnicy byli poddawani indoktrynacji zapoczątkowanej w KL Dachau przez Theodora Eickego. W pierwszej części tekstu przedstawiono założenia ideologii narodowosocjalistycznej, które ze szczególnym naciskiem były promowane w SS-Totenkopfverbände oraz swoiste wartości, charakterystyczne dla samych SS. Następnie scharakteryzowano te elementy szkolenia wojskowego, przez które przechodzili kandydaci na esesmanów, a które w zasadniczy sposób wpłynęły na ich postawę wobec osadzonych w obozach koncentracyjnych. Główna część tekstu została poświęcona dokumentom świadczącym o szkoleniach ideologicznych esesmanów oraz treściach, jakie były w nich przekazywane, a także o roli Wydziału VI w utrwalaniu narodowosocjalistycznych poglądów wśród załogi KL Auschwitz.
    War or battle does not always mean confronting an external enemy. To reach this stage, the Third Reich had to deal first with its internal enemies – political opponents of the National Socialists, Jews, homosexuals, and Jehovah’s witnesses. The aim of this work was to present the training process of SS men, whose main task was to supervise persons imprisoned in concentration and extermination camps. The focus was on the role of the National Socialist ideology and its influence on the attitude of the guards and the values that wereinstilled in them during training and service in camps. The main subject of researchwere SS men from the garrison of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp complex. In the documents preserved in the Archives of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, it has been shown that the local guards were also subjected to the indoctrination initiated in KL Dachau by Theodor Eicke. The first part of the paper presents the assumptions of the National Socialist ideology, which were promoted with particular emphasis in the SS-Totenkopfverbände, and specific values characteristic of the SS itself. Then, the elements of military training that candidates for SS men underwent were characterized, and which significantly influenced their attitude towards prisoners in concentration camps. The main part of the work was devoted to documents testifying to the ideological training of SS men and the content that was conveyed therein, as well as the role of Division VI in perpetuating the National Socialist views among the KL Auschwitz staff.

    Na terenie KL Auschwitz oraz w kopalniach i hutach, przy których istniały filie obozu, obok więźniów pracowali również robotnicy cywilni. Z reguły zatrudniani byli za pośrednictwem prywatnych firm. Pochodzili z Niemiec, państw sojuszniczych III Rzeszy oraz krajów okupowanych. W pierwszym okresie zatrudniano przede wszystkim fachowców, później także pracowników niewykwalifikowanych. Ich warunki zakwaterowania i wyżywienia były najczęściej fatalne. Angażowali się w pomoc więźniom, głównie poprzez dostarczanie żywności i lekarstw. Pewna ich część przynależała do organizacji konspiracyjnych.
    Civilian labourers worked alongside the prisoners both in the Auschwitz Concentration Camp and in the mines and steel mills of the branch camps. As a rule, they were employed through private companies. They came from Germany, the allied states of the Third Reich, and the occupied countries. In the first period, mainly professionals were employed, later also unskilled workers. The conditions of their housing and food were usually disastrous. They often helped prisoners, mainly by providing food and medicine. Some of them belonged to underground organisations.

    Celem artykułu „Żydzi słowaccy w obozie na Majdanku” jest przedstawienie faktów dotyczących transportów i charakterystyki tych więźniów. Transporty Żydów ze Słowacji były kierowane na Majdanek od końca maja do połowy czerwca 1942 roku. W tym okresie do obozu trafiali wyłącznie mężczyźni. Kobiety, dzieci i osoby niezdolne do pracy umieszczano w gettach na terenie dystryktu lubelskiego. Do KL Lublin przywieziono ich latem i jesienią 1943 r. po likwidacji gett. Żydzi słowaccy nie stanowili w obozie grupy jednorodnej społecznie. Ci, którzy byli wykształceni i znali język niemiecki, pełnili różne funkcje. Ich uprzywilejowana pozycja w obozie oraz fakt, że nie dopuszczali do swojej grupy nikogo innego, wzbudzały zazdrość innych więźniów i były powodem konfliktów z innymi grupami. Kary, szykany, zabijanie w komorze gazowej, a przede wszystkim prymitywne warunki bytowe były przyczyną wysokiej śmiertelności w obozie. Ci, którzy pozostali przy życiu, zostali zamordowani 3 listopada 1943 r. podczas akcji „Erntefest”. Tego dnia rozstrzelano około 18 000 Żydów z wielu krajów. Przeżyli tylko ci, którzy zostali deportowani do KL Auschwitz w maju i czerwcu 1942 r. oraz ci, którzy uciekli.
    The aim of an article „Slovak Jews in Majdanek camp” is to present the facts about transports and characteristics of those prisoners. Transports of Jews from Slovakia were headed to Majdanek from the end of May till the middle of June 1942. In this period, only men were sent to the camp. Women, children and people who were unable to work were placed in ghettos in the area of Lublin district. They were brought to KL Lublin in the summer and autumn 1943 after liquidation of the ghettos. Slovak Jews did not present a socially homogeneous group in the camp. Those who were educated and knew German took various functions. Their privileged position in the camp and the fact that they did not allow anyone else to enter their group made other prisoners jealous and was a reason of conflicts with other groups. Pentalties, chicanes, killing in gas chamber and above all primitive living conditions were a reason of high mortality in the camp. Those who stayed alive were murdered on the 3th of November 1943 during the “Erntefest” action. This day about 18 000 Jews from many countries were shot. Only those who were deported to KL Auschwitz in May and June 1942 and those who ran away survived.

    Autorka analizuje jeden z dzienników osobistych z obozów koncentracyjnych autorstwa Abrahama Kajzera, więźnia KL Auschwitz-Birkenau i AL Riese (filia KL Gross-Rosen na Dolnym Śląsku). W artykule została wykorzystana teoria Pawła Rodaka dotycząca szeroko rozumianej materialności dziennika jako praktyki piśmiennej, która należała do wyjątkowo skomplikowanych w czasie II wojny światowej, zwłaszcza w obozach koncentracyjnych (znalezienie materiału i narzędzia pisarskiego, stworzenie przestrzeni oraz wytworzenie rytuałów piśmienniczych; miejsce ukrywania notatek oraz ich losy powojenne). Dziennik nie jest jedynie zapisem tekstualnym, jest ściśle związany z życiem. W obozach był bardzo niebezpieczną praktyką (autor mógł zapłacić życiem za pisanie). Abraham Kajzer pisał w jidysz na workach po cemencie ołówkiem kopiowym w obozowej latrynie, która była również miejscem przechowywania notatek. Po wojnie przekazał materiał Adamowi Ostoi, który go przetłumaczył oraz przygotował do publikacji. Kajzer opisał obozową rzeczywistość i traumatyczne przeżycia, które obok wielu innych są dowodem nazistowskiego ludobójstwa.
    The author analyses one of the intimate diaries from concentration camps written by Abraham Kajzer, who was a prisoner of KL Auschwitz-Birkenau and AL Riese (which was a part of KL GrossRosen on Lower Silesia). In article is uses Paweł Rodak's theory of broad understanding of diary's materiality as a writing practice, which was very complicated and difficult during the World War II, especially at concentrations camps (finding material and tool to write, organizing space and work out a ritual of writing; also place where notes were hiding and their fates in the post-war years). Diary it's not only on textual level but it's closely related to regular life. But in the camp writing daries was extremely dangerous practice (author could pay with his own life for it). Abraham Kajzer was an writing in Yiddish on empty cement bags with indelible pencil in camp latrine, where he was also hiding notes. After war he passed on his material to Adam Ostoja, who translated them and edited to publication. Kajzer described his reality in concentration camps and many traumatic experiences, which are one of many evidences of the Nazi genocide.

    In October 1939, on the territory of the Polish Republic occupied by Hitler’s Germany, two organisational structures, whose objectives to be realised were clearly defined, confronted each other - on the one hand, the network of the Polish Underground State being created and continuously expanded, with its armed forces: Armed Service to Poland (SZP) - Armed Fighting Union (ZWZ) - Home Army (AK), and on the other, the German occupation administrative apparatus, with its police units and special services. The fundamental goal of the Polish Underground State was to defend and protect the national substance, and to win back independent statehood. Whereas, the fundamental objective of the actions of the opposite sid was to eradicate the Polish elite regardless of its beliefs or political orientation, pursuant to the idea expressed by Adolf Hitler on October 2, 1939 “...Poles can have only one master, and it can be the German, therefore, representatives of the Polish intelligentsia have to be killed.It sounds brutal, but such is the rule of life...” A special position in  implementing the aforementioned objectives was taken by the police and a system of different types of camps inextricably connected with it. The Nazi decision-making bodies were fully aware of the fact that no matter what the occupation policy was going to be it would be confronted by the Polish organised underground movement. The total number of police force to implement the given tasks and in the General Gouvemment subordinate to the Chief Commandant of SS and Police (Hoherer SS und Polizeifuhrer) is estimated of 50 to 60 thousand policemen. Besides a generał terror afflicting the whole Polish society the operations of the German special services were targeted at the liąuidation of the commanders of the Home Army. The purpose of the article was to present the fate of the members of the Main Command (KG) of ZWZ-AK after their arrest and to focus on their stay in Auschwitz. It needs to be emphasised that KG ZWZ-AK, as a conspiratory apparatus was extremely well organised and developed, which grew constantly from a group of several persons who on September 27, 1939 undertook organisation activities, to 1195 officers, officer trainees,  and non commissioned officers in February 1944. There should be added an unspecific number ofprivates, ca. 2000-3000 so that approximately 300CM000 people were members of KG ZWZ-AK. During the period from March 1941 to February 1944 KG ZWZ-AK lost 457 killed and 1001 imprisoned persons. It can be justifiably assumed that the losses of KG ZWZ-AK were over 1500 soldiers, however exact calculations are not possible in this case. The highest KG commanding officers were put under arrest, namely General Stefan Rowecki, pseudonym “Grot”, the Chief Commander of the Home Army; Chief of Staff Colonel Certified Janusz Albrecht, pseudonym “Wojciech”, two Commanders of Unit U; Lieutenant-Colonel Certified Wacław Berka, pseudonym “Brodowicz”, Lieutenant-Colonel Certified Marian Drobik, pseudonym “Dzięcioł”; reserve major Tadeusz Kruk-Strzelecki, the first BIP Head, pseudonym “Dyrektor”.Those numerous arrests of the members of KG ZWZ-AK resulted in placing some of them in concentration camps. As found in half-yearly reports, there were 317 officers and soldiers of the Home Army there. The present research does not allow making any defmite statements about the exact number of KG ZWZ-AK members who were imprisoned in Auschwitz. The analysed data refer to the managing staff and include 30 people. One may put forward a hypothesis that probably a majority of those 317 soldiers placed in concentration camps became the victims of Auschwitz. The scope of the article embraced the description of the fate of those members of KG ZWZ-AK who had some special decision-making competence. In this case it was the level of the head of the department, which should be treated asthe lowest commanding link. Only in two cases I did not obey the rule. The structure of KG ZWZ-AK imposed the way of presentation the subject matter. The fate of the KG members was presented in agreement with their official membership. The published article is a tribute to the memory of all the arrested and murdered members of KG SZP-ZWZ-AK.
