Opis:
In 1933, twelve years aer his Manhood and Humanity came out, Alfred Korzybski (1879-1950), a Polish aristocrat who arrived in the United States during World War I, published his most famous book called Science and Sanity. A former Russian intelligence officer, earlier trained as a chemical engineer at the Polytechnic Institute in Warsaw, Korzybski had a broad-ranging intellectual background, which he employed to work out his theory of general semantics. It is beyond doubt that the theory under discussion can help journalists depict the reality of the world in its multidimensional complexity – and thus make their performance more professional.

Opis:
The article discusses the figure of a journalist presented in the contemporary drama scripts. The author analyzes how consistent journalists are, if they observe professional ethical standards and if they treat their profession as a calling and mission or only a way of making a living. The analysis of three dramas – Witaj Barabaszu by Jarosław Jakubowski, Powrót do Reims by Beniamin Bukowski and Wolny strzelec by Ishbel Szatrawska – suggests that the journalists featuring in the dramas treat their profession as a way of creating reality, manipulating facts along with their reception, taking advantage of guests and informers to present a subjective account of events. When preparing the materials, they fail to maintain integrity, especially the principle of being unbiased and objective. The descriptions of the journalists indicate a loss of public confidence in media-related professions. Many current journalists have ceased to be thoughtful professionals and turned into being entertainment providers, manipulators or celebrities. The theater seems to hyperbolize this situation to put the problem in the spotlight and encourage a public debate.

Contemporary journalism carried out especially in the media. This fact, in itself, raises a number of dilemmas regarding the role of social and quality of work.
The article takes a closer look at the model journalist presented in the „Niedziela” Catholic weekly. The purpose of this presentation is to find answers to the following questions: in what way should a journalist perform his or her work? Are there explications thanks to which the journalist can understand professional tasks more precisely and carry them out more properly? The author found these explanations in the weekly “Niedziela.” The following issues related to journalism are described there: mission, professionalism, reliability, openness, creativity, honesty, ethics, moral responsibility, expressing love for God as the Truth, and Christian values. Texts published in “Niedziela“ describing misconceived journalistic work and the creation of poor media coverage also served the indicated purpose. A journalist who does not understand the principles of journalistic service and rejects its values is characterized by a lack of professionalism, promotion of “celebrity journalism,” replacing service with commercialism, using false information, not pursuing the truth and bringing out the good. The study uses descriptive and hermeneutic methods, which made it possible to present the issue in the light of the collected publications and to interpret the content cited from them. In this way, answers were found to the question concerning a model journalist.

The article is dedicated to aspects of a journalist’s work published between 1996–2014 in the professional monthly magazine Press, aimed at people interested in media, advertisement and public relations. These statements help other media professionals become familiar with the work experience of their colleagues, as well as help acquaint new entrants to the profession with the rules, difficulties and dilemmas associated with this work. The author classifies and defines three types of published texts: those written in an instructional form, those which approach the conventions of an informative article, and finally, copyright protected publications. An analysis of these texts leads to a conclusion that the primary aims of the publication have led its authors to focus attention on perceptions and the practical dimensions of the knowledge being shared. They use detailed descriptions, and have gradually abandoned ready solutions, encouraging readers instead to consider a range of possibilities; they also illustrate their suggestions with examples from personal experience. They do not fail to provide enlightening recollections of their own mistakes or detail the difficult beginnings of their own careers. The role models presented demand from the reader an ability to synthesize various elements. The original structure of the publication as well as its thoughtful and recollection-driven approach to the subject helps to achieve this. An awareness of the technical nature of texts urges experienced journalists to explain in plain terms the ins and outs of the profession by presenting specific events, making comparisons, and offering brief advice or warnings. This also relates to the language of expression they use, which makes even the official and hackneyed style of instructional discourse easy to understand.

System of social communication is constantly evolving. The history of media shows that new technologies play a significant role in the formation and perception of social environment. In the 21st century, the influence of the Internet on the functioning of the social, political and media institutions has become a subject of interest shared by numerous scholars working within the field of communication and social sciences. Changes in the area of the media are thought to have important economic, cultural, and social consequences. However, the nature and scale of these changes are rather controversial (Briggs i Burke 2010). Technological changes, also those occurring in the world of media, result in drawing two risky conclusions. First of them is that the changes are perceived as an enemy (things are getting worse); second of them is – in opposition to the first one – that changes are seen as progress. In the media, the newest technologies have transformed the nature of the work of organisation and media workers, range of persons creating content, ways of retrieving and spreading information, ways of creating news, as well as ways of news consumption. This article presents changes taking place in the media environment and attempts to indicate further possible directions taken by these changes. The article undertake to indicate the possible direction in which they follow the media and journalism in the era of the dominance of social media, with a focus on the role of Facebook. Is the journalist continues to be the provider of news? What comes down the function of searching for information? Where consumers are looking for news and whether a journalist is still a credible figure?

The secrecy enveloping the past of public figures — journalists, politicians, and business moguls — has been plaguing democratic transition all across the Central and Eastern European region. In Bulgaria, the public has faced at different stages of the transition the uncomfortable moral crisis of reconciling the communist past with the political and cultural presence. In this process, journalists and media professionals play a vital role as critical agencies of discovering and disseminating the facts concerning the secret communist past of public figures. The situation is further complicated when journalists themselves are implicated in collaborating with the communist secret service, while at the same time, serving as prominent voices of dissent and political change. This paper examines the ramifications of these problems for press freedom and self-censorship, when not only journal- ists but media owners themselves, find their names on the “blacklist” of former secret agents and spies.

Nowadays the smartphone is an inalienable attribute of the journalist. Journalists use it as a supplement to professional equipment or as a substitute. It depends on the quality of the smartphone and the scope of the work of the journalist. If a journalist works in print media or online media, he can completely refuse the use of professional techniques, because modern smartphones have good built-in voice recorders and a camera that can help record an interview and make a photo of the hero of the material. For online and radio journalists, the smartphone is usually a complement to professional equipment. Special video and audio applications on smartphones help journalists quickly assemble the material and send it to the editor.Smartphones also allow journalists to broadcast live broadcasts from current affairs and be indispensable during journalistic investigations, where the use of professional techniques is impossible. journalist interview
Opis:
A journalist interview is a well established and described genre. In many journalism textbooks it is recognized as highly important, as interview technique is both the key to acquiring information by a journalist (from people), and a way of conducting and analysing a longer literary text in a form of a dialogue between a journalist and interviewed person. The presented text discusses interview techniques, leading to creating an extensive text that would cover many topics. Such an interview, intended for publication, takes a shape of a live question-answer conversation between a journalist and his or her interlocutor. Attention is drawn to the most important steps of interview preparation: choosing the subject and the interlocutor, arranging scenery of the meeting, conducting and recording the interview, editing and preparing the text for publishing (in the light of Polish law all this has to additionally be hedged around with the right of the interviewed person to authorise the interview). The article presents the most basic typology of interviews: for a person (when the conversation focuses on the speaking person) and for a cause (when the subject matter of the talk is a field in which the interviewed person is a specialist). The author underlines an effort that has to be made by the journalist in order to prepare for an interview – there is the necessity for detailed research, acquainting oneself with the topic to be discussed, very good knowledge of the subject close to the interviewed person’s heart. He emphasizes also an important and widely discussed issue of the journalist’s responsibility for the person with whom he or she talks, as well as requirements regarding a successful interview: respect, interest taken in the interlocutor, keeping certain distance and also – fundamental for this profession – the problem of working under pressure of time and some brevity and the need to apply schematic attitude and simplify the journalistic narrative. The whole text is illustrated with numerous quotations taken from professional press and workshop materials in which famous and renowned masters of the press interview talk about their professional experience. In this text there are also remarks on the way a journalist works on the material he or she has collected and acceptable interferences in somebody’s statement. Also, the author mentions the issue of authorisation, which is an infamous remnant of the censorship which constituted a part of press law made in 1984 and – in its principles – valid till this day.

He also discusses the usage of new media technologies in teaching. He claims that concentrating on media or information literacy which is evolving due to the usage of new multimedia technologies is nowadays one of the most important challenges for educators. The author concludes his considerations with a statement: ‘I would say that the best media education in the future will be one in which it will not exist. It means that the whole system of education would define media education as a set of skills, knowledge and practices essential for all types of human activity in the 21st century. It would result in media education being a main element in the creation of a new school in a postmodern world’.

Undoubtedly, analyzing the teaching of bishop Adam Lepa, we can see that the media show great opportunities in the field of positive action: they teach, bring the works of culture closer, arouse creative passions, and in the hands of believers they become a place of effective evangelization. Based on the above aspects, we can see that a media worker, thanks to his faithfulness to the Word, becomes not only a teacher but also an evangelizer. Recognizing the need for the formation of a journalist, the work emphasizes that spiritual formation in the life of a person responsible for the transfer of information is very important. The fruit of preaching a journalistic message will be, for example, the shaping of a Christian mentality, which will bring people closer to God. Building a Christian mentality is a way of thinking, it’s intellectual inquisitiveness, and above all, it’s habits of thought and beliefs to which a person has managed to get used to. A journalist using the formation will be aware that Christ is his most important formatter. Therefore, the principles of spiritual formation never grow old, just like the Gospel, of which a journalist of the 21st century can become a faithful witness.
