    In this paper, we examine the meta-ontology of AI systems with human-level intelligence, with us denoting such AI systems as AIE. Meta-ontology in philosophy is a discourse centered on ontology, ontological commitment, and the truth condition of ontological theories. We therefore discuss how meta-ontology is conceptualized for AIE systems. We posit that the meta-ontology of AIE systems is not concerned with computational representations of reality in the form of structures, data constructs, or computational concepts, while the ontological commitment of AIE systems is directed toward what exists in the outside world. Furthermore, the truth condition of the ontology (which is meta-ontological assumption) of AIE systems does not require consistency with closed conceptual schema or ontological theories but rather with reality, or in other words, “what is the world” (Smith, 2019, p.57). In addition, the truth condition of AIE systems is verified through operational success rather than by coherence with theories. This work builds on ontological postulates about AI systems that were formulated by Brian Cantwell Smith (2019).

    Opis:
    The author focuses on the colonization of North America by the English in the years 1585–1620. The adopted time censures refer respectively to the date of the first colony on Roanoke and shore Mayflower ship, as a turning point in the history of English colonization of the New World. The content of the article is an analysis of English-language sources regarding settlement issues in the present-day United States regarding the aforementioned colonies on Roanoke Island along with accidents that happened to its inhabitants and the beginnings of the city of Jamestown. In addition to the main thread, the author also touches upon the forgotten history of the inhabitants of the sixteenth-century Commonwealth who took part in the colonization trials of the English.
    Autor koncentruje się na kwestii kolonizacji Ameryki Północnej przez Anglików w latach 1585–1620. Przyjęte cezury czasowe odnoszą się odpowiednio do daty założenia pierwszej kolonii na Roanoke oraz dobicia do brzegu statku Mayflower jako punktu zwrotnego w historii angielskiej kolonizacji Nowego Świata. Treść artykułu stanowi analiza anglojęzycznych źródeł na temat osadnictwa na terenach dzisiejszych Stanów Zjednoczonych dotycząca wspomnianej kolonii na wyspie Roanoke wraz z wypadkami, które stały się udziałem jej mieszkańców oraz początków miasta Jamestown. Oprócz głównego wątku autor porusza również zapomnianą historię mieszkańców szesnastowiecznej Rzeczypospolitej, którzy brali udział w kolonizatorskich próbach Anglików.

    There are (at least) two opposing concepts of biological information, or bioinformation,discussed in the modern philosophy of biology: genocentric (genebased)and holistic. As a main proponent of the former I consider British evolutionistJohn Maynard Smith and his teleosemantic theory of bioinformation.The latter was proposed by American philosopher Susan Oyama in the form ofso-called Developmental Systems Theory (DST).In Maynard Smith proposal bioinformation is strictly gene-based and anynon-genetic element of a living organism cannot be considered as a vehicle ofinformational content. Such information is transmitted from parents to offspringinside the germ cells and every time serves as a blueprint for buildingthe whole organisms. DST claims the opposite: bioinformation cannot bereduced to genetic elements only and is scattered throughout the whole livingsystem. What is more, biological information is not simply transmittedbetween generations but every time rebuilt from available developmental resources:bioinformation has not only it is phylogeny, but it is ontogeny as well.The aim of this paper is twofold. First: to present the foundations of both aforementionedtheories to the reader and second: to discuss the different objectionsraised against them.

    The present article is an attempt to look at selected Romantic poems which concentrate on the image of the nightingale. Starting from Charlotte Smith’s sonnets and continuing with poems by other writers of the period, I will try to trace the link between nature and poetic convention in English Romanticism. While some of the nightingales which sing in Romantic poetry seem deeply symbolic, other forsake poetic tradition and stubbornly persist in their birdy nature, resisting descriptions in terms of melancholia or woe. Nevertheless, the fate of Philomela, whose sad story of violation identifies the nightingale with loss, suffering and poetic creation, still remains an important context for Romantic nightingale poems.

    The article aim is to answer the question whether Amartya Sen’s theory of justice – presented in the fullest way in his book The Idea of Justice (Oxford 2009) – may be regarded as intellectually attractive to legal philosophy. The analysis of this theory leads to the conclusion that it can be of limited relevance to that branch of philosophy. It is connected with the fact that Amartya Sen belongs to such a kind of thinkers who reject the focusing only on the institutions as a means to the realization of justice. Con¬sidering the so-called procedural justice, Sen refers only to the idea of an impartial spectator developed by Adam Smith, and essentially he is not interested in retributive justice. Thus, it seems that the richer theory of John Rawls still remains much more attractive for the jurisprudence. However, in the author’s opinion, some concepts created by Sen may be an important starting point for reflection on law, even apart from Sen’s entire theory. His notions of freedom (which can be adapted, for example, to judge paternalistic regulations) and of capability seem to be particularly inspiring from the point of view of legal philosophy.
