    The article deals with a problematic phrase in TestZab 9, 8 in which mysterious Messiah is portrayed as the holy city – Jerusalem. This obvious Christian interpolation needed some explanation, for neither the person resposible for the final shape of the apocryphon, nor any early Christian writer had commented on it. Up till now this expresssion was usually interpreted as a copist error (Hollander, de Jonge) or simply left with no comment what so ever. The author decided to do a quick research on early Christian literature in order to compare the phrase from TestZab 9, 8 with some christological ideas connected to the holy city in the works of the Church fathers. Few of them: Origen, Hilary of Poitiers and Jerome did write some about Jesus Christ picturing him as New Jerusalem. However, one can hardly prove any impact of TestZab 9, 8 on the thaughts of theses three Church thinkers. It is much more  probable that some biblical traditions and early Church teaching together with some ideas of Philo of Alexandria paved way to their christology in the context of Jerusalem. In this context the phrase about Messiah-Jerusalem is rather an isolated one and thus proves to be either a copist error or a deliberate action of one Christian interpolator which has found no understanding in the later Christian thought.

    Kościół parafialny pw. św. Jerzego w Dzierżoniowie zaliczany jest do grupy świątyń miejskich powstałych w 2. połowie XIII w. Został on przekazany pod patronat Zakonowi Rycerskiemu Szpitalników św. Jana z Jerozolimy w 1338 r., zatem zdecydowanie później niż inne świątynie na Śląsku (np. w Strzegomiu w 1203 r., w Złotoryi przed 1267 r., w Głubczycach w 1279 r., w Brzegu w 1280 r. czy we Lwówku w 1281 r.). W artykule, w oparciu o wyniki przeprowadzonych badań architektonicznych oraz studia porównawcze podjęto próbę określenia formy pierwotnego kościoła halowego i jego przekształceń w XIV w., obejmujących wieżę oraz ciągi kaplic. Kolejna przebudowa realizowana od początków XV w., a zakończona w 1556 r. w dużym stopniu zatarła pierwotny układ świątyni. W wyniku tych prac powstała nawa główna nakryta sklepieniem sieciowym z chórem zamkniętym wielobocznie oraz trójnawowy korpus bazylikowy.
    The parish church St George in Dzierżoniów belongs to a group of city temples dating to the 2nd half of the 13th century. It was passed to the patronage of The Knights Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, later than other temples in Silesia (eg. in Strzegom in 1203, in Złotoryja before 1267, in Głubczyce in 1279, in Brzeg in 1280 or in Lwówek in 1281). Based on the results of the architectural research and comparative studies we have attempted to determine the form of the original hall church and its transformations in the 14th century which included the tower and a series of chapels. Another reconstruction implemented at the beginning of the 15th century was completed in 1556 and it largely obliterated the original layout of the temple. As a result of these works the main nave was created with a choir with a polygonal enclosure, covered with a network vault and the body of a three-nave basilica.

    John Chrysostom (349–407) provides the most comprehensive commentary on the Pauline epistles from the patristic era. During his priestly mission in Antioch (386–397) and his episcopate in Constantinople (398–403), he wrote over 200 homiletic commentaries on the entire Pauline epistolary body of work. This research attempts to analyze how Chrysostom interprets Paul’s verses concerning the collection and uses them to organize and transform the ecclesial groups into communities of love, particularly paying attention to the poor. The study focuses on the works of John Chrysostom on Rom 15:25–29. Based on his interpretation, the status of debtors in the spiritual blessings is the main reason why the Romans had to be more earnest in almsgiving, imitating the Macedonians and the Achaeans who had helped the community in Jerusalem. He also encourages them to reform their lives, cutting off the superfluities, luxurious lifestyles, and bad attitudes in squandering money on other selfish needs. At the same time, he stirrers them up to meet their needs moderately, which meant using only the goods that are truly necessary for a healthy and dignified life so that they would always have something to share with the poor.

    The present study aims at presenting the role of prayer in the life of the early Church the Acts of the Apostles. First, the practice of prayer in the early Church was discussed. In light of the analysis, prayer appears as a fixed practice among the fi rst Christians. The author of the Book of Acts underscores its basic characteristics, to wit faithfulness, perseverance, and unanimity. Second, the places of gathering for prayer were discussed. As many texts from Acts revealed, besides the Jerusalem temple, the private houses were the primary places of gatherings and prayer for early Christians. Third, different approaches and forms which characterized early Christian prayer were revealed. In the final threefold part of this study, the most salient features of prayer were discussed in detail: (1) the prayer of petition, connected in particular way with the gift of the Holy Spirit; (2) the prayer uttered at some crucial moments of the history of the early Church; Luke wanted to show how the first Christians faithfully followed the lead of Jesus, the master of prayer, in their search for God’s will revealed to them in prayer; and (3) the prayer of worship and thanksgiving.

    The purpose of this article is to analyze the standpoint of Pope Honorius (625–638) at the early stage of the controversy over operation in Christ. Patriarch Sophronius (633/634–638) expressed his protest against the statement on one operation in Christ after it had been officially expressed in the Alexandrian Pact of unity in 633. The Pact was supported by both Sergius of Constantinople (610–638) and Emperor Heraclius (610–641). Patriarch Sergius developed his tactics in order to defend the stance of both the Church of Constantinople and the Emperor. As a result, a significant tension between both Patriarchs arose. After the confrontation between Sophronius of Jerusalem and Sergius of Constantinople, Pope Honorius (625–638) was concerned with the matter of operation in Christ. He maintained the standpoint of Sergius and became one of the implicit initiators of the Ekthesis issued by Emperor Heraclius.

    Palestinians are not a homogeneous group. One of the minority groups are Christians, the majority of whom is Orthodox. Although relatively few have stayed in their homeland, they still play an important role there. The Orthodox Palestinians have a strong feeling of identity, both ethnically, as Arabs, and religiously as Orthodox Christians. They face problems in three main domains. First, they are exposed to the same forms of discrimination from the Israeli regime as the rest of Palestinians – they are deprived of the opportunity to create and be part of their own, fully independent state. Second, they are a minority living among the Sunni majority nation. Thirdly, despite being a majority in their Church – Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem – they are under Greek domination in various areas. All these factors render the situation of Orthodox Palestinians very complex. The aim of this article is to show this situation and its potential influence on the Palestinian question and the Orthodox Church issues.
    Палестинцы не представляют собой однородной группы. Одну из подгрупп составляют христиане, также разделенные, причем большинство из них это православные. Несмотря на то, что на данный момент православных на родине осталось совсем немного, они по-прежнему играют немаловаж- ную роль. Для них характерно очень сильное чувство идентичности – как этнической, так и религиозной. При этом они постоянно вынуждены пре- одолевать проблемы разного рода. Во-первых, со стороны Израиля они подвержены тем же формам дискриминации, что и прочие палестинцы, они лишены возможности создать полностью независимое государство и быть его частью. Во вторых, внутри собственного народа, они являются религиозным меньшинством по отношению к суннитскому большинству. В третьих, являясь большинством в своей родной Церкве – православном Иерусалимском Патриархате, в то же время на разных полях они подвер- жены греческому доминированию. Все это делает ситуацию православных палестинцев чрезвычайно сложной. Целью данной статьи является пред- ставление современного положения православных палестинцев и его по- тенциального воздействия на палестинский вопрос и вопросы, связанные с церковью.

    The era of the Crusades was also the era of pilgrims and pilgrimages to Jerusalem. The Russian Orthodox world did not accept the idea of the Crusades and did not consider the Western European crusaders to be pilgrims. However, Russian people also sought to make pilgrimages, the purpose of which they saw in personal repentance and worship of the Lord. Visiting the Christian relics of Cyprus was desirable for pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem. Based on the method of content analysis of a whole complex of the writings of Russian pilgrims, as well as the works of Cypriot, Byzantine, Arab and Russian chroniclers, the author explores the history of travels and pilgrimages of Russian people to Cyprus in the 12th–18th centuries, the origins of the Russian-Cypriot religious, inter-cultural and political relationships, in addition to the dynamics of their development from the first contacts in the Middle Ages to the establishment of permanent diplomatic and political relations between the two countries in the Early Modern Age. Starting with the 17th century, Russian-Cypriot relationships were developing in three fields: 1) Russians in Cyprus; 2) Cypriots in Russia; 3) knowledge of Cyprus and interest in Cyprus in Russia. Cypriots appeared in Russia (at the court of the Russian tsars) at the beginning of the 17th century. We know of constant correspondence and the exchange of embassies between the Russian tsars and the hierarchs of the Cypriot Orthodox Church that took place in the 17th–18th centuries. The presence of Cypriots in Russia, the acquisition of information, the study of Cypriot literature, and translations of some Cypriot writings into Russian all promoted interactions on both political and cultural levels. This article emphasizes the important historical, cultural, diplomatic and political functions of the pilgrimages.
    Czas wypraw krzyżowych był także epoką pielgrzymowania do Jerozolimy. Rosyjski świat prawosławny nie zaakceptował idei wypraw krzyżowych i nie uważał zachodnioeuropejskich krzyżowców za pielgrzymów. Jednak Rosjanie również starali się organizować pielgrzymki, których cel upatrywali w osobistej skrusze i uwielbieniu Boga. Nawiedzanie chrześcijańskich relikwii znajdujących się na Cyprze było pożądane przez pielgrzymów udających się do Jerozolimy. Opierając się na metodzie analizy treści całego kompleksu pism pielgrzymów rosyjskich, a także pism kronikarzy cypryjskich, bizantyjskich, arabskich i rosyjskich, autorka bada historię podróży i pielgrzymek odbywanych przez Rosjan na Cypr od XII do XVIII stulecia, genezę rosyjsko-cypryjskich stosunków religijnych, międzykulturowych i politycznych, a także dynamikę ich rozwoju od pierwszych kontaktów w średniowieczu do nawiązania stałych stosunków dyplomatycznych i politycznych między oboma krajami we wczesnej epoce nowożytnej. Począwszy od XVII wieku stosunki rosyjsko-cypryjskie rozwijały się na trzech płaszczyznach: 1) Rosjanie na Cyprze; 2) greccy Cypryjczycy w Rosji; 3) wiedza o Cyprze i zainteresowanie Cyprem w Rosji. Greccy Cypryjczycy pojawili się w Rosji (na dworze carów rosyjskich) na początku XVII wieku. Znamy stałą korespondencję i wymianę posłów pomiędzy carami rosyjskimi a hierarchami cypryjskiego Kościoła Prawosławnego, która odbywała się w XVII-XVIII wieku. Obecność greckich Cypryjczyków w Rosji, zdobywanie informacji, studiowanie literatury cypryjskiej oraz przekładanie niektórych pism cypryjskich na język rosyjski sprzyjało interakcjom na płaszczyźnie zarówno politycznej, jak i kulturowej. Niniejszy artykuł podkreśla ważne historyczne, kulturowe, dyplomatyczne i polityczne funkcje pielgrzymek.

    The scholars who examined the Miaenergist confrontation focused their attention on the different aspects of the controversy. The purpose of the article is to understand whether the sociocultural matter could also be covered in confrontation between Sophronius of Jerusalem and Sergius of Constantinople. Sophronius’ views were formed in the circle of the Palestinian monasticism, which was strongly loyal to the verbal confession of two-nature Chalcedonian Christology. Accordingly, he expressed his protest against the statement on one operation in Christ. In response, Sergius of Constantinople developed his tactics in order to defend the stance of the Church and Court of Constantinople. As a result, a significant tension between the both Patriarchs arose.
    Autorzy, którzy badali spór wokół chrystologicznej doktryny monoenergetyzmu, zwrócili uwagę na różne aspekty kontrowersji. Celem artykułu jest zrozumienie czy kwestia społeczno-kulturowa może być również przedmiotem konfrontacji między Sofroniuszem z Jerozolimy a Sergiuszem z Konstantynopola. Poglądy Sofroniusza zostały uformowane w tradycji monastycyzmu palestyńskiego, który był wierny wobec dosłownego wyznania chalcedońskiej chrystologii dwóch natur. W związku z tym wyraził on swój protest przeciwko stwierdzeniu o jednym działaniu w Chrystusie. W odpowiedzi Sergiusz z Konstantynopola opracował swoją taktykę, aby bronić stanowiska Konstantynopolitańskiego Kościoła i rządu. W konsekwencji powstało napięcie między dwoma patriarchami.     Human time, no matter to what culture or religion a man belongs, is filled with celebrations that give rhythm to his life and help him capture the essence of his existence. Also Christianity over the centuries worked out various forms of specific celebration. The goal of this text is to look at the character of celebrate in the fourth and fifth centuries and to determine how the Christian writers wrote about the celebration. The first sources that author considered are two ancient texts of Socrates of Constantinople (Socrates Scholasticus) and Sozomen (Salminius Hermias Sozomenus) with the same names: Historia Ecclesiastica. In both works there are little chapters, in which appear the mention of the celebration, the majority of them is associated with Feast of the Passover and The First Council of Nicaea, others occur mainly on the margins of the narrative. This is because the history of the Church is here treated primarily as ‘political’ history, shaped by the decisions of great personages of the Church. The most important conclusion that emerges from these two texts is the observation that the differences in the way of celebration are not a source of division, but most of all divisions for doctrinal reasons manifest themselves in a separate celebration. The second source is The Travels of Egeria, also called The Pilgrimage of Aetheria (Itinerarium Egeriae), a letter describing the author’s travel to the holy places. In her report Egeria devotes much attention to the description of those involved in the celebration of subsequent festivals. The modern reader is struck by the generosity of crowds gathered in prayer and their vivid faith that motivates them to make long prayers going for hours. Celebration of Christians in the fourth and fifth centuries was an expression of a vivid faith. Their religion permeated life in all dimensions, and determined the essence of who they were. It was touching the inexpressible, the main aim was above all communion with Christ and the Church. Originally Christians celebrated entirely in the community of the Church, which gives a more or less clear framework to all that can be considered for celebration.

    The presented article analyses to which extent the African authors had got used of the image of Jerusalem in the period of their polemic with the Donatists. It is well known that one of the focal points of the Donatist controversy concerned ecclesiology. There is a great number of Church’s images occurring in the works of Christian authors, but it seems that a symbol of Jerusalem is however predominant. The city of God, an image of the Church, revealed itself as an earthly and celestial reality, including both the historical sphere and transcendence. Already in the process of forming ecclesiology in Nord Africa had a particular physiognomy with elements assimilated and altered by the Donatist sect. The reflections of Tyconius and Optatus of Milevi took on considerable significance and stood at the origin of catholic’s inspiration and argumentation. St. Augustine of Hippo placed the conflict with the Donatists not only on the practical and disciplinary context but above all on the doctrinal level. His ecclesiology proved to be coherent and compact. The bishop of Hippo found his basis on the biblical level and the traditional doctrine. In the anti-Donatist literature, it can be observed a certain predilection for a particular set of scriptural quotations used by various authors as an argument and as an illustration to support the thought concerning the universality of the Church. The topic of Jerusalem played here the crucial role.
    Prezentowany artykuł przedstawia, w jakim zakresie chrześcijańscy pisarze rzymskiej Afryki posługiwali się metaforą Jerozolimy w trakcie prowadzenia polemiki z donatystami. Wiadomo, że kluczowym punktem w tej dyskusji była kwestia eklezjologiczna. Niewątpliwie w literaturze patrystycznej pojawiało się wiele figur Kościoła, lecz wydaje się, że symbol Jerozolimy cieszył się największą popularnością. Miasto Boże, jako obraz Kościoła, jawiło się w swojej ziemskiej i niebiańskiej rzeczywistości. Zawierało w sobie zarówno sferę historyczną jak i transcendentną. W procesie swojego formowania się w północnej Afryce eklezjologia nabierała specyficznych rysów. Były to elementy, które donatyści często przyswajali sobie i dostosowywali do swoich przekonań. Refleksje Tykoniusza i Optata z Milewy nabrały w tym kontekście szczególnego znaczenia. W pewnym sensie stanęły one u początków katolickiej wizji niektórych prawd o Kościele. W swojej argumentacji natomiast św. Augustyn z Hippony umieścił konflikt z donatystami nie tylko na płaszczyźnie praktycznej czy dyscyplinarnej, ale przede wszystkim na poziomie doktrynalnym. Eklezjologia biskupa Hippony ma zwarty i konsekwentny charakter. Ten wielki Ojciec Kościoła osadził swoją refleksję na fundamencie biblijnym i prawowierności doktryny. W literaturze antydonatystycznej można zauważyć pewne preferencje, jeśli chodzi o wybór świadectw biblijnych stosowanych przez różnych autorów jako argumenty lub ilustracje nauczania o powszechności Kościoła. Konkretny i duchowy obraz Jerozolimy odgrywał tutaj kluczową rolę.
