Artykuł poświęcony jest mało znanemu wątkowi pedagogicznej działalności Janusza Korczaka, jakim była współpraca z Polskim Radiem. W latach trzydziestych minionego stulecia systematycznie przygotowywał on i prezentował na falach eteru słuchowiska przeznaczone nie tylko dla dzieci, lecz również dla dorosłych, w których rozważał kwestie wychowawcze. Dwukrotnie zrywano współpracę z Korczakiem bez podawania jakiejkolwiek przyczyny. „Stary Doktór” nie tylko doceniał potęgę nowego medium społecznego, lecz również wiązał z nim duże nadzieje. Planował wykorzystać jego wszechmoc do zmiany sposobu myślenia na temat dziecka i jego problemów.
The article concerns a little-known story of Janusz Korczak educational activity, which was the collaboration with the Polish Radio. In the 1930s he prepared and presented a lot of radio dramas for children as well as for adults. These dramas were focused on problems of education. The cooperation with the Polish Radio was cancelled twice without giving any reason. The old Doctor not only appreciated the power of new social medium, but also had great hopes. He wanted to use “omnipotence” of the medium to change the image of children and their problems.

In this paper, I focus on one of the children’s rights, which Janusz Korczak raised in his writings, namely the child’s right to the present day, which I understand as a postulate to appreciate the dignity of a child in its everyday life. My aim in this paper is, therefore, not only to reconstruct and uncover the complexities of this postulate, but also to theoretically embed this concept in pedagogical narratives about the child, and more specifically in anthropology of education and upbringing. In order to achieve this aim, 1. I will describe two paths in thinking about the relationship between human beings and their culture, taking into account especially its temporal dimension. Then I will proceed to 2. the concept of children’s rights in Korczak’s understanding of the child subjectivity; in order to indicate 3. the radical and ethical character of message his thinking.

The reconstruction of the image of the child would have to begin with the ways of establishing the subject of research, namely, the basis of the verbal image of the child. Words and names distinguish and identify concepts and things, carry a certain meaning, and it is the context that sometimes allows to make the meaning more specific. However, in Korczak’s work it is not that easy, because there is no single, consistent definition of the child, there are many different explanations and explications of the concept in question depending on the situation and circumstances it was located by the author. I will try to show the meanings and connotations of the lexeme ‘child’ used in Korczak’s texts. It must be emphasized that the motif of the child is omnipresent in Korczak’s world, it acts as a dominant in each of the texts under analysis Nevertheless, putting these images together into a single, coherent picture seems impossible for several reasons. One of them is the fact that the child is involved in many different linguistic, cultural, social and generational contexts in Korczak’s prose. The other is the repertoire of linguistic means the author used to define the concept of the child and to create an image of the child to model the ways the child is perceived.

anusz Korczak’s ideas and practical pedagogical achievements permanently went down in the history of Polish and world pedagogy. They have become a unique source of knowledge, ideas and inspiration in the quest for new educational solutions. His rich literary works, especially the pedagogical trilogy entitled How to Love a Child, is both a source of knowledge and inspiration for further reflection and research in the field of pedagogic sciences and an encyclopaedia of practical knowledge in the area of care, upbringing and education. The purpose of this article is to depict Korczak as a person, tutor, guardian, researcher-clinician and show his moral credibility confirmed with testimony to love. Not only does it present the topicality and importance of his pedagogical message but it also indicates the possibility of being a role model for many of today’s tutors and teachers.
This article proposes the thesis that Edith Stein’s late anthropology has a theocentric orientation. The threefold structure of a human being consisting of a body, soul and spirit is examined in order to validate the thesis. First of all, the finitude of a human being points out to the eternal being and – consequently – human beings are not conceivable by themselves, without the context of God. Moreover, the hylomorphic union of the body and soul adopted from Aristotelian and Thomistic philosophy is enriched in Stein’s anthropology by the concept of spirit. This results in a threefold structure and is reason enough to suggest man’s iconic similarity to the Trinity. Furthermore, Stein takes over St. Teresa of Avila’s concept of an internal center of the soul, which can be a meeting point between a person and God. The analysis of the soul’s center supports the main thesis.

Dążeniem wychowania moralnego jest kształtowanie w dzieciach i młodzieży systemu wartości zgodnego z powszechną wizją podmiotowego traktowania każdego człowieka, z kanonami pomocnymi w odróżnianiu dobra od zła oraz z wartościami uniwersalnymi takimi, jak: szacunek, uczciwość, odwaga, altruizm czy odpowiedzialność. Ważne jest zatem nie tyle dostarczanie wiedzy o wartościach moralnych i o odpowiadających im normach i zasadach postępowania, ale także rozwijanie pewnego rodzaju wrażliwości moralnej poprzez m.in. dawanie przykładu postępowania moralnego. Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie sylwetki Janusza Korczaka w kontekście głoszonych i prezentowanych wartości, jako wzoru osobowego godnego naśladowania i miana autorytetu moralnego.
The aim of moral education is to form in children a system of values in accordance with the universal vision of treating every man in the subjective way, with the principles that are helpful in differentiating the good and the evil, and with universal values such as: respect, honesty, courage, altruism or responsibility. Hence it is important not so much to supply the pupil with the knowledge about moral values and the respective norms and rules of behavior, but also to develop in him a certain kind of moral sensitivity through, among others, being an example of moral behavior. The aim of the article is to present the figure of Janusz Korczak, in the context of the values he presented and promoted, as a personal example worth of following and as a moral authority.

The article is based on an analysis of Róża Sternkac’s notebooks, which are a previously unused archival source from the history of the Orphans’ Home. On that basis, chosen examples of Korczak’s pedagogy being used in reference to various aspects of the functioning of Orphans’ Home have been identified. The examples, however, do not concern Korczak himself, but the notebooks’ author, mentored by Stefania Wilczyńska. The previously mentioned analysis allows us to trace the path of the young educator’s development. Starting with the struggle of the first pedagogical challenges, the path eventually leads to the formation of an attitude of effective action based on self-knowledge, understanding children, and work conditions. Another important factor is in-depth self-reflection, concerning not only one’s actions and emotional states, but also the sphere of values and institutional conditions. The article concludes with a proposal to broaden the understanding of the term “Korczak’s pedagogy” to the area of shaping young educators’ and pedagogues’ abilities to create their own, original pedagogy.

Janusz Korczak’s works and pedagogical activities can be perceived on different levels. This text is a proposal of the analysis of Korczak’s achievements in the context of building personal relation-ships in the process of educating with respect to alumni and teachers-educators. In Conclusions the created reconstruction of the way Janusz Korczak understood mutual relations was interpreted in the context of the idea of dialogical personalism. It is a theoretical and empirical article based on Korczak’s works, the materials collected during a visit to Korczakianum. The method applied in this reconstruction was the fusion of the analysis of selected works and the open interview with the managers of this research lab.

This article is an attempt to specify the meanings of a child’s category, childhood and the best interest of the child made on the basis of analysis and interpretation of pedagogical thought of Janusz Korczak and literature analysis. The interpretations and references to Korczak’s thoughts have been there included. The research project were based on document content analysis. Korczak – the figure undoubtedly the foreground in Polish pedagogy and the world doctrine of children’s rights. It is his pedagogical practice and contemporary reception of his thoughts, made by educators and lawyers, that will become the basis for seeking the meanings of categories on which the modern doctrine of children’s rights and the system of their protection are built. As a result: the principle of the best interest of the child as a determinant of the pedagogical practice of Janusz Korczak has been normalized in the Convention on the Rights of the Child and other acts of Polish and international law. This category is interpreted dynamically in the context of changes in the discourses of a child and childhood functioning in social and political life, especially in the area of education and upbringing of the young generation. As a pedagogical category, it is visible in the reflection of many pedagogues as a central category, most often identified with the goal of all adult activities for the child.

The article at hand tackles the subversive play of Kaytek the Wizard’s character and the constructions of childhood in the prose of Janusz Korczak. The novel, Kajtuś Czarodziej (Kaytek the Wizard) serves as the source material for an analysis which shows childhood in the convention of a ‘world upside-down’ – the typical carnivalized vision of the world found in literature dedicated to young people. In such literature, the carnival is associated with the motif of having ‘great fun’ which is a marker of children’s folklore and subculture. However – and this is something atypical for Polish children’s prose – Korczak’s novel includes a motif of subversive play during which a child overturns and deconstructs the reality governed by the social rules determined and enforced by adults. Such a form of play is revolutionary by its very nature and the child-character becomes somewhat demagogic. A consequence is that he is capable of perverting or denaturalizing the usual order, and grotesquely implementing a reversed one. In the novel explored, the subversive play of Janusz Korczak’s child-character fits into a carnivalesque paradigm of childhood and may be illustrative of ‘dark paidocracy’.

Celem opracowania było zaprezentowanie nadrzędnych idei określających dziedzictwo pedagogiczne Janusza Korczaka. Jego oryginalna twórczość literacka oraz koncepcja Nowego Wychowania dzieci i młodzieży łączą w sobie humanitaryzm, a także głęboką znajomość psychiki dziecięcej, z liryzmem, humorem oraz fantazją. Wśród przewodnich tez jego koncepcji można wyróżnić: szacunek do dziecka jako człowieka rozwijającego się poprzez własną aktywność, zasadę (praktykę) partnerstwa podmiotów w procesie wychowania, prawo wychowanka (podopiecznego) do opieki oraz odpowiedzialność społeczeństwa dorosłych za warunki jego życia, poszukiwanie syntezy wiedzy o dziecku, techniki działania pedagogicznego wpisujące się w konglomerat ogólnych założeń systemu opiekuńczo-wychowawczego oraz koncepcję wychowawcy (opiekuna, pedagoga) wynikającą z ogólnej postawy Korczaka wobec dziecka.
The aim of the study was to present main ideas describing pedagogical heritage of Janusz Korczak. Its original literary creativity and the concept of the New Upbringing of children and the youth link together humanity and the deep knowledge of the child’s psychology with lyricism, humor and fantasy. Some keynotes may be listed among his concepts: respect for a child as an individual developing by his own activity, the rule of cooperation of entities in the process of upbringing, the right of the ward to care and the responsibility of the society for his life conditions, gaining knowledge of a child, pedagogical techniques included in the care and educational system as well as the concept of the educator derived from the general Korczak’s attitude towards a child.

Artykuł przedstawia analizę współczesnego rozumienia Janusza Korczaka jako humanisty i wybitnego pedagoga. Celem tekstu jest stworzenie, ideowych wskazań dla pracujących w społeczeństwie mediów cyfrowych pedagogów XXI wieku. Środowisko cyfrowe jest traktowane przez dzieci i młodzież jako naturalne miejsce aktywności, budowania i utrzymywania relacji oraz korzystania z rozrywki i edukacji. Ze względu na akcentowanie w dyskursie publicznym licznych zagrożeń środowiska cyfrowego, postrzeganie go wyłącznie technokratycznie oraz z uwagi na dużą dynamikę jego przemian, wybór właściwego kierunku stawia pedagogów przed wieloma dylematami. W toku rozważań wykazano, że zasadne jest kierowanie się wskazaniami nurtu refleksyjno-krytycznego stawiające w centrum uwagi dialogiczne metody pracy, skorzystanie z dostępnych w Polsce holistycznych modeli edukacji medialnej, informacyjnej i cyfrowej oraz rozwinięcie rzecznictwa na rzecz praw dziecka w środowisku cyfrowym.
