Montenegro became a union republic of the Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia (1945–1992) after the Second World War and the political changes and wars in the Balkans at the turn of the 20th and 21st century. Montenegro proclaimed its independence on 3rd June 2006. As an independent state, this former republic of socialist Yugoslavia takes action to gather and scientifically describe its remarkable cultural heritage. In 2019 Cetinje Academy of Music, which is part of the University of Montenegro, decided to carry out a scientific project aimed at depicting this entire cultural heritage. Folk culture and Orthodoxy are the dominant features of this whole opus, thus it is not surprising that cultural products are mostly associated with these two cultural factors. Catholics constitute a group of about 3.5%, which amounts to a relatively small number of believers. Though they are a small community, they also left their mark on culture. One of the important factors in the Catholic worship is the pipe organ. The article is the first part of a series of texts dedicated to the organ in Montenegro, in which the organ from St. Tryphon's Cathedral in Kotor and from the parish church of Our Lady Help of Christians in Muo is described. The presentation of these instruments comprises their history and description as well as contemporary and archival photographs. The contemporary instrument in St. Tryphon’s Cathedral in Kotor is a small contemporary instrument which comes from the German organmaster’s factory Fischer + Krämer. The factory was founded in Schlatt, near Bad Krozingen, in 1970. The firm builds its instruments with mechanical key actions in wood and their pipe measurements are based on the Baden-Alsace tradition of Stieffell and also on the pattern of Andreas and Johann Andreas Silbermann. However, the history of the organ in Kotor Cathedral is relatively well documented and has been depicted by musicologists from the former Yugoslavia. The organ preserved in the church of Our Lady Help of Christians in Muo is, in its construction, an instrument belonging to the Dalmatian-Italian tradition of the organ building, which derived from Domenico Moscatelli’s factory. It was built in 1784 in Zadar and brought to Muo in 1880. The organ is a mechanical instrument containing Italian sound concept and stop naming. Its current condition is disastrous. The organ requires special care due to the fact that it reflect a substantial document of European organ building’s trends. Respect for music in its material (an instrument with a beautiful organ front) and spiritual (beauty of sounds) dimensions is required. Therefore, Boka Kotorska is not only a charming, mountainous and seaside resort, but also a place with a vital role in the contemporary account of the material heritage of Montenegrin culture.

This article is a second part of the series of texts on organs in Montenegro, in which the organs from St Nicholas’ Church and the Church of Our Lady of the Rock in Perast will be described. The description of these instruments will include their basic presentation in the context of the organ building trends in this part of Europe. Organs as a special musical instrument are an important example of the material heritage of musical culture. Montenegro, being a predominantly Orthodox country in which instrumental and vocal-instrumental music is not performed, cannot claim a large number of organs. However, their significant proportion includes historically noteworthy instruments.

It is undoubtful that the Italian Renaissance, understood as the totality of phenomena associated with the concept of the revival of antiquity, had a huge impact on European culture. Simultaneously, there is no question that the development of the revival idea on the Apennine Peninsula was different than in the rest of Europe, north of the Alps. These differences resulted primarily, but not exclusively, from the firm establishment and influence of medieval traditions. The contrast between north and south of Europe was particularly visible in church architecture and in the, newly emerging, artistic one. Artists and art theorists of the Apennine Peninsula were generally oriented towards the reception of ancient forms (or ones considered to be antique), but were usually critical towards Gothic architecture, identified as a foreign German style (maniera tedesca). On the other hand, in north-of-the-Alps Europe, late-medieval architecture was often perceived as an element shaping one’s own identity. In case of some countries, such as Germany or France, it was even associated with the “national” heritage, which however was not in contradiction with the reception of the Italian forms all’antica. This reception usually proceeded twofold; either it was a direct “transfer” of Italian Renaissance patterns, or their compilation with the Gothic style. This dualistic approach also characterized the architecture of the early modern Polish Republic. Moreover, it is already recorded at the initial stage of the reception of Renaissance forms in Poland. The goal of this thesis is to outline the problem of “the memory of Middle Ages” in the sacral buildings of Italian architects in the 16th c. Poland, defined as the problem of the influence of medieval traditions. The attempt to answer the questions about the factors influencing the retrospective dimension of the works of these artists takes into consideration recent research results, as they allow to phrase an innovative hypothesis about the special influence that the medieval tradition of the Apennine Peninsula had on mentioned works. Moreover, the hypothesis is also encouraged by the conclusions presented in the preliminary research results.

Ksiądz Giussani nie może być uważany za krytyka literackiego, ale jego głęboka kultura skłania go do poszukiwania tych wszystkich aspektów dzieła literackiego, które są bliskie jego własnemu doświadczeniu i najlepiej odpowiadają na pragnienia i lęki każdego człowieka. Dlatego w tekście mowa jest o spotkaniu z wymienionymi autorami. Tekst odnosi się przede wszystkim do Zmysłu religijnego, natomiast jeśli chodzi o przywołanych poetów nawiązuje się zwłaszcza do pisarzy włoskich. Naszym zamiarem było dokonanie porównania między niektórymi osądami wyrażanymi na temat autorów cytowanych przez nowoczesną i współczesną krytykę z tym, co ksiądz Giussani stwierdza o tych autorach. W tekście sięgnięto do oryginalnych tekstów tam, gdzie było to możliwe.
* The original article "Echi della letteratura italiana nell’ opera «Ill senso religioso» di don Luigi Giussani" was published in Roczniki Pedagogiczne, vol. 15, no. 1 (2023), pp. 155-168. This article analyses a less studied aspect of Don Luigi Giussani’s work, his style of writing and the method of analysis of the texts that the author knows and mentions in his works. Fr Giussani cannot be considered a literary critic, but his profound culture leads him to seek all those aspects of the literary work that he feels close to his own experience, and which best respond testify to the desires and fears of every man. Therefore, the contribution speaks of a meeting with the authors mentioned. The text mainly refers to the work The Religious Sense, while for the poets who are remembered, reference is made above all to Italian writers. We intend to make a comparison between what are some judgments expressed on the authors cited by modern and contemporary criticism in comparison with what Don Giussani affirms about these authors. In the text, an attempt has been made where possible to go back to the original texts.

The article analyses strategies utilised by Wilhelmina Zyndram-Kościałkowska, a translator of the novel Dopo il divorzio by Grazia Deledda, to introduce Deledda’s works on the polish literary market. The text shows ways in which characteristics of Deledda’s works and Kościałkowska’s translation strategies serve to minimise the effect of foreignness and to present Deledda’s works as important argument in the polemics between the literary tradition and the modernity. In consequence, the Polish translation of Dopo il divorzio may be viewed as an act of an influence on a Polish literary system.

Si analizza nel presente articolo un aspetto meno studiato dell’opera di Don Luigi Giussani, il suo stile di scrittura e anche il metodo di analisi dei testi che l’autore conosce e cita nelle proprie opere. Don Giussani non può essere considerato un critico letterario ma la sua profonda cultura lo porta a cercare tutti quegli aspetti dell’opera letteraria che egli sente vicino alla propria esperienza e che meglio rispondono testimoniano i desideri e le paure do ogni uomo. Per questo nel contributo si parla di incontro con gli autori ricordati. Nel testo si fa riferimento principalmente all’opera Il senso religioso, mentre per i poeti che vengono ricordati si fa riferimento soprattutto agli scrittori italiani. Si intende svolgere un paragone fra quelli che son alcuni giudizi espressi sugli autori citati dalla critica moderna e contemporanea a confronto con quanto afferma Don Giussani su questi autori. Nel testo si è cercato dove possibile di risalire ai testi originali
