Opis:
Separation among rubidium and potassium ions from salt lake brines remains challenging. In this work, a typical room temperature ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-metyhlimidazaolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([C2mim+][NTf2-]) was used as diluent and synergistic extractant, dicyclohexano-18-crown-6 (DCH18C6) was used as extractant to extract rubidium ions from brine solutions which contain high concentrations of potassium ions was investigated. Under the optimal conditions, the single extraction efficiency of rubidium ions was up 93.63%. The thermodynamic parameters of the rubidium ion extraction were obtained. Based on the slope analysis method, the extracted species in the organic phase were ascertained as 1:1 complex. UV-visible has been performed to investigate the ion concentration of ionic liquid before and after the interaction of metal ions and ligands. Rubidium ions in [Rb · DCH18C6]+ complex were stripped by 2.5 mol · L–1 NH4NO3. The extraction system offers high efficiency, simplicity and environmentally friendly application prospect to separate rubidium from brine solutions.

The presented article describes the method of synthesizing new ionic liquid based on a biguanide cation and a tiocyanate or benzoate anion with antimicrobial properties. The structure of obtained new ionic liquid was confirmed by infrared spectroscopy. Additionally, the article describes a simple method of producing an antibacterial textile materials and PE-based film with the addition of an ionic liquid.

Opis:
Addition of organic acids to dilute hydrochloric acid solution can improve the extraction of rare earth elements by single cationic extractants. However, the correlation between the chemical structure of organic acids and the extraction of REEs as well as the variation in equilibrium pH has not been elucidated. In this study, we investigated the extraction of Tb(III) from dilute HCl solutions containing an organic acid like formic, lactic, fumaric, or maleic acid. As extractants, single Cyanex 272, a mixture of Cyanex 272 and Alamine 336 (Ala336-Cy272), and an ionic liquid (ALi-Cy272) synthesized by Cyanex 272 and Aliquat 336 were used. The speciation of Tb(III) in dilute HCl solutions containing organic acids was analyzed. In extraction of Tb(III), organic acids showed two roles as complexing and buffering agent, which depended on the chemical structure of the acids. There was some difference in the extraction of Tb(III) between single Cyanex 272 and ionic liquid, ALi-Cy272. During extraction with ALi-Cy272, formic and lactic acid negatively affected the extraction of Tb(III). The fact that the chemical structure of organic acids affected the extraction of Tb(III) from dilute HCl solution by the studied extractants can provide important information on the selection of suitable extraction systems.

In this study, an imidazole ionic liquid (dodecyl-tri-methylimidazolium chloride) was employed as a collector to separate quartz from phosphorite. The micro-flotation experiments of a single mineral found that it had selective collecting ability for quartz than phosphorite. Mixed mineral flotation experiments confirmed that efficient separation results could be obtained using the imidazole ionic liquid as the collector. A concentrate with a 31.44% grade of phosphorite could be obtained with a 0.285 kg/Mg collector dosage at neutral pH, which was much better than the traditional collector dodecylamine. The adsorption mechanism of the imidazole ionic liquid on the surface of phosphorite and quartz was investigated by contact angle and zeta potential measurements, Fourier transform infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses. These results showed that the adsorption of imidazole ionic liquid at the quartz surface was stronger than that of phosphorite, and the collector adsorbability difference between quartz and phosphorite resulted in the efficient flotation separation. Consequently, the dodecyl-tri-methylimidazolium chloride salt is an effective collector for reverse flotation of quartz from phosphorite.

Radiation-induced processes in ionic liquid (IL) methyltributylammonium bis[(trifl uoromethyl)sulfonyl] imide ([MeBu3N][NTf2]) solutions containing p-terphenyl (TP) and saturated with carbon dioxide (CO2) were studied using nanosecond pulse radiolysis technique with UV-vis detection. The transient absorption spectra generated in these solutions were assigned to TP radical anions (TP•–) and triplet excited states (3TP*). Saturation of [MeBu3N][NTf2] solutions with carbon dioxide efficiently takes out presolvated electrons (e–presolv) and solvated electrons (e–solv). On the other hand CO2 is not a scavenger of excited states of TP (1TP*, 3TP*), which in the reaction with triethylamine (TEA) leads to the formation of TP•-.

This work presents studies on the recovery of platinum group metals (PGM), especially platinum and rhodium, from spent automotive converters using hydrometallurgical techniques such as leaching and liquid-liquid extraction. The XRD analysis confirmed the presence of indialite – the high temperature hexagonal form of cordierite (the main catalyst building material) in the solid samples. The influence of time and temperature on the leaching of PGM from spent automotive converters was investigated. The largest amounts of Pt(IV) and Rh(III) were leached with freshly prepared aqua regia and a mixture of HCl, $H_2SO_4$ , and $H2O_2$. Further, liquid-liquid extraction with quaternary phosphonium ionic liquid (Cyphos IL 101) was applied to recover PGM from the leach solutions (after leaching with a mixture of HCl, $H_2SO_4$, and $H_2O_2$ and to separate Pt(IV) from Rh(III).

Because of industrialization and modernization, phenomenal changes have taken place in almost all spheres of life. Consequently, the consumption of energy resources and the cases of environmental hazards have risen to an unprecedentedly high level. A development model with due consideration to nature and an efficient utilization of energy sources has become the need of the hour, in order to ensure a sustainable balance between the environmental and technological needs. Recent studies have identified the suitability of ionic liquids (ILs), often labeled as ‘green solvents’, in the efficient utilization of energy resources and activities such as bio-extraction, pollution control, CO2 capture, waste management etc. in an environmentally friendly manner. The advent of magnetic ionic liquids (MILs) and deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have opened possibilities for a circular economic approach in this filed. This review intends to analyze the environmental and energy wise consumption of a wide variety of ionic liquids and their potential towards future.

In this opinion paper, the author provides a perspective on possible processing strategies for this pretreatment with ionic liquids, identifying different advantages as well as challenges to be overcome.

Opis:
Chitin is the second most abundant polysaccharide on the Earth after cellulose, therefore there is a tangible need for finding new environmentally-friendly solvents for the manufacture of useful forms of that polymer. Ionic liquids have been recently proposed as a possible type of solvent for chitin and cellulose. The possibility of the dissolution of chitin of various origin in six selected ionic liquids was investigated. Chitin samples were characterised by the main characteristic properties: degree of N-acetylation (by FTIR spectroscopy), degree of crystallinity (by WAXS), average molecular weight (by the viscometric method) and physical form. The studies performed allowed to find the optimum chitin-ionic liquid system based on 1-btyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate for the manufacture of chitin fibres by the solution blow spinning method. Final products were characterized by the same set of parameters as the initial materials.
Chityna jest drugim po celulozie polisacharydem na Ziemi, dlatego istnieje namacalna potrzeba znalezienia nowych i przyjaznych dla środowiska rozpuszczalników do produkcji użytecznych form tego polimeru. Niedawno ciecze jonowe zostały zaproponowane jako możliwe do zastosowania „zielone” rozpuszczalniki chityny i celulozy. W artykule oceniono możliwość rozpuszczania różnego pochodzenia chityny w sześciu wybranych cieczach jonowych. Próbki chityny zostały scharakteryzowane poprzez następujące właściwości: stopień N-acetylacji (spektroskopia FT IR), stopień krystaliczności (WAXS), średnia masa cząsteczkowa (metoda wiskometryczna). Przeprowadzone badania pozwoliły na znalezienie optymalnego systemu cieczy jonowej do wytworzenia włókien chitynowych metodą rozdmuchu. Produkty końcowe zostały scharakteryzowane poprzez ten sam zestaw parametrów, co początkowe polimery.

Opis:
Ionic liquids are molten salts composed of large, asymmetric, organic cations (e.g. imidazolium or piperidine) and inorganic anions such as e.g chloride or fluoroborate. These compounds are characterized by low melting point, below 1000C, however, they also have other interesting properties including high thermal stability, minor vapor pressure or negligible volatility. Moreover, by the appropriate selection of the cation and anion building the ionic liquid, it is possible to obtain the desired physicochemical properties of these salts. For this reason, ionic liquids are applied to the synthesis, catalysis, electrochemical methods, extraction methods, etc. Application of these compounds in separation techniques merits special attention, especially considering liquid chromatography. Ionic liquids are commonly used in this technique as free silanols suppressors, especially regarding the analysis of basic compounds. Moreover, the excess amount of ionic liquids ions may adsorb on the hydrophobic ligands present at the stationary phase surface, which also plays a significant role in the retention of analytes. Besides their application as silanols suppressors, these compounds were also used as ion pair reagents in the analysis of antisense oligonucleotides, which are short nucleic acid fragments with therapeutic potential due to the ability to bind with complementary sequences of ribonucleic acid. For this reason, antisense oligonucleotides are used in the treatment of several diseases. This article briefly presents structures, properties and the application of ionic liquids as mobile phase modifiers for the analysis of the wide range of different analytes using liquid chromatography. Moreover, a part of this paper was devoted to the analysis of antisense oligonucleotides with the use of the different chromatographic techniques, including the application of ionic liquids as mobile phase additives in ion pair chromatography.

A comparison of methods for obtaining nanocellulose using acid and ionic liquid hydrolysis reactions. In this study, two methods were compared, i.e. acid hydrolysis using sulphuric acid (VI) and ionic liquid hydrolysis using 1-methyl-3-butylimidazolium chloride to obtain nanocellulose from Sigmacell Cellulose Type 20. The efficiency of both processes was tested for weight loss of the material during the reaction. The study showed that much more material can be obtained using ionic liquid hydrolysis than using acid hydrolysis. A dynamic light scattering study was performed to determine material particle size before and after these processes. Particles of nanometric size were recorded only for cellulose after the reaction with an ionic liquid. In addition, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was performed to determine the chemical structure of the materials tested.

Chitosan–cellulose gel beads were regenerated from an ionic liquid, and their application to a metal adsorbent was examined. The chitosan–cellulose gel beads, which were prepared from 1-ethyl-3-methyl imidazolium acetate, were more stable in the acidic and basic aqueous solutions than cellulose or chitosan. The adsorption of copper on chitosan–cellulose gel beads was examined, and the adsorption amount of copper ion increased with pH, suggesting that amino groups on chitosan were related to adsorption. The adsorption isotherm of copper, zinc, and nickel ions was well described by the Langmuir model, and the adsorption ability of these metal ions obeyed the Irving-Williams series. Fe3+, Mn2+, and Co2+ from a buffer solution and Pt4+, Au3+, and Pd2+ from a hydrochloric acid solution were not adsorbed on the chitosan–cellulose gel beads.

Poprawa oczyszczenia przestrzeni pierścieniowej otworu wiertniczego przed zabiegiem cementowania jest bardzo rozbudowanym zagadnieniem. Związane jest to z faktem, że na odpowiednie usunięcie osadu filtracyjnego wpływa wiele czynników, począwszy od technicznych i technologicznych, poprzez hydraulikę i mechanikę płynów, a skończywszy na chemicznych zmianach zachodzących w układach stosowanych cieczy przemywających. Skuteczne oczyszczenie kolumny rur okładzinowych oraz formacji skalnej wpływa na ograniczenie lub wyeliminowanie migracji bądź ekshalacji gazu na kontakcie płaszcza cementowego z elementami przylegającymi (formacja skalna lub rura okładzinowa). Dodatkowo oczyszczenie przestrzeni pierścieniowej przyczynia się do dokładnego związania płaszcza cementowego z powierzchniami styku, co pozwala zminimalizować działanie środowiska korozyjnego na kolumnę rur okładzinowych w czasie wieloletniej eksploatacji odwiertu. W celu uzyskania wymaganego usunięcia osadu płuczkowego podczas przygotowywania otworu do cementowania stosuje się ciecze przemywające na bazie różnych środków. Są to zazwyczaj środki powierzchniowo czynne, które pozwalają na zdyspergowanie pozostałości osadu płuczkowego i jednocześnie nawilżenie powierzchni przestrzeni pierścieniowej, co jest korzystne podczas hydratacji wtłaczanego w kolejnym etapie prac zaczynu cementowego. Problematyka doskonalenia usuwania osadu płuczkowego wiąże się z koniecznością opracowywania nowych cieczy przemywających. W tym celu badaniom poddawane są różnego rodzaju środki charakteryzujące się zróżnicowaną budową i mechanizmem działania. W celu uzyskania wymaganych rezultatów działania cieczy przemywającej należy prowadzić szereg prac badawczych, a na podstawie porównań i analizy uzyskanych rezultatów staje się możliwe otrzymanie wymaganego efektu. W niniejszej publikacji przedstawiono badania efektywności usuwania osadu płuczkowego za pomocą cieczy przemywających sporządzonych na osnowie środków o anionowej oraz niejonowej budowie. Następnie przeprowadzono analizę korelacyjną w celu przedstawienia zależności efektywności usuwania osadu od rodzaju stosowanych środków. Przeprowadzona analiza pozwala na wytypowanie grupy środków charakteryzujących się korzystniejszym działaniem oraz określenie wpływu budowy środka powierzchniowo czynnego na skuteczność jego działania. Podczas realizacji prac badawczych wykonane zostały testy dla różnych stężeń środków anionowych oraz środków niejonowych. Badania skuteczności działania cieczy przemywających przeprowadzono w oparciu o pomiar stopnia usunięcia osadu płuczkowego z powierzchni rotora wiskozymetru obrotowego. Podczas prowadzenia badań zastosowano zakres koncentracji środków powierzchniowo czynnych w przedziale od 0,1% do 10%.
Improving the cleaning of the annular space sealing before cementing is a very complex issue. This is due to the fact that the appropriate removal of filtering sludge is influenced by many factors ranging from technical and technological, through hydraulics and fluid mechanics, and ending with chemical changes occurring in the systems of used washing liquids. Effective cleaning of the drill pipes and rock formation reduces or eliminates migration or exhalation of gas on the contact of the cement with adjoining elements (rock formation or casing). In addition, the cleaning of the annular space contributes to the precise bonding of the cement with the contact surfaces, which minimizes the corrosive environment’s impact on the column of casing pipes during long-term exploitation of the well. In order to obtain the required removal of the mud sludge during the preparation of the cementing, washing liquids based on various means are used. These are usually surfactants that allow to disperse the residue of the sludge and simultaneously moisturize the surface of the annular space, which is beneficial during the hydration of the cement slurry pressed in the next stage. The problem of improving the removal of mud sludge involves the need to develop new washing liquids. To this end, various types of measures characterized by diversified structure and mechanism of action are subjected to research. In order to obtain the required results of the action of the washing liquid, a number of research works should be carried out, and based on comparisons and analysis of the results obtained, it becomes possible to obtain the required effect. This publication presents studies on the effectiveness of removing mud sludge with the use of washing liquids prepared on the basis of anionic agents and non-ionic construction. Then a correlation analysis was carried out in order to present the dependence of the efficiency of sludge removal on the type of measures used. The conducted analysis allows to select a group of agents characterized by a more beneficial effect, and to determine the impact of the surfactant structure on its effectiveness. During the research work, tests were carried out for various concentrations of anionic agents and non-ionic agents. The tests of the effectiveness of the washing liquids were carried out based on the measurement of the degree of removal of the sludge from the rotor surface of the viscometer. During the tests, the concentration range of surfactants used was in the range of 0.1% to 10%.

In the present paper, results from rheological measurements and tensile tests of polymer blends containing chitosan and poly(vinyl alcohol) with different additions of an ionic liquid are presented. Flow measurements were carried out using solutions of pure polymers and their blends with and without the addition of an ionic liquid. It has been observed that the polymer solutions and their blends exhibited non-Newtonian behaviour. Rheological parameters from the power law and activation energy of viscous flow were determined and discussed. Mechanical properties, such as the tensile strength and ultimate percentage of elongation of films, have been determined and compared. This study thus shows that the addition of an ionic liquid is an effective method for improving the flexibility of chitosan blends.

An aryl-substituted aromatic acid ionic liquid (M-X) was synthesized through hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide and sodium salicylate, and it was employed as a flotation collector for the separation of quartz from magnetite. Laboratory flotation studies of magnetite and quartz were conducted using the M-X and dodecylamine (DDA) as collector. The results showed that the M-X has a stronger collecting ability and selectivity for quartz without starch. The adsorption mechanism of M-X on quartz and magnetite surfaces was studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), zeta potential and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. Results indicated that the adsorption of M-X on the quartz surface was more efficient than that on the magnetite surface. And the salicylate anion in M-X was found to have depression effect to magnetite.
