Intrasudetic Basin
vertebrate footprints
Opis:
New specimens of vertebrate footprints are reported from the Early Permian deposits in Poland. Footprints discovered in a well-known Early Permian Rotliegend tracksite at Wambierzyce (old German name Albendorf) represent ichnites of Hyloidichnus arnhardti Haubold, 1973.

Opis:
The Lower Permian Walchia shale of the Intrasudetic Basin is lacustrine sediment enriched in organic matter and base metals. Rock-Eval geochemical analysis was conducted on 110 drill-core rock samples of the Walchia shale in order to characterize the quantity, genetic type and maturity of dispersed organic matter. Concentrations of U, Th, Cu, Ni, V, Pb, Zn, Co, Mo, Cr, P, S and Fe were determined and microscopic studies to recognize mineral composition were performed on selected samples. Organic matter of the Walchia shale is immature and dominated by terrestrial type III kerogen with an admixture of planktonic type II kerogen. The Walchia shale is generally poor source rock, but some parts of the profile exhibit good and even excellent hydrocarbon potential. The average concentrations of analysed metals are higher than the average reported for black shales. The concentrations of base metals do not correlate with TOC contents, suggesting that their presence is associated with inorganic features of the Walchia shale or they could have been related primarily to organic matter which was subsequently oxidized and altered. Uranium may be partly associated with phosphates. Results of microscopic investigations revealed the lack of detectable radioactive minerals, abundance of framboidal pyrite, and prevalent galena, sphalerite and chalcopyrite.

Opis:
We describe the organic petrography, palynology and Rock-Eval pyrolysis values of lacustrine black shales termed the Anthracosia Shales (Upper Carboniferous/Lower Permian) in the Intrasudetic Basin (Sudetes, SW Poland). Samples were taken from cores of two boreholes: Rybnica Leśna PIG 1 and Ścinawka Średnia PIG 1. Maceral composition, miospore assemblage composition, palynofacies and geochemical characteristics of dispersed organic matter in the Anthracosia Shales were used to determine conditions of the environment and to evaluate their petroleum potential. Data from both organic petrography and palynology analyses enabled recognition of three broadly distinct organic associations in these shales: bituminous, humic, and intermediate, while Rock-Eval pyrolysis revealed the presence of bituminous and humic kerogen types I and III. Type I corresponds to the bituminous association, with amorphous organic matter (AOM) dominant in the palynofacies, and type III corresponds to the humic association with phytoclasts prevailing in the palynofacies. The thermal maturity of the organic matter is determined by the values of: (1) vitrinite reflectance VRo = 0.53–0.73%, (2) palynomorph 3–4 colour index, and (3) Tmax = 443–447°C, which indicate oil window maturity. Some of the TOC results (1.6–2.9 wt.%) indicate that the Anthracosia Shales are good and very good petroleum source rocks, though the thickness of this interval is low (4–5 m). Shales with TOC values <0.5 wt.% prevail, and may be classifed as poor source rocks.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of geological mapping and a detailed structural analysis carried out in the Łączna Anticline. This elevated region coincides with the Zawory (Cz. Závora) mountain range in the Central Sudetes (SW Poland). The Łączna Anticline separates two minor geological units (depressions) within the northwestern part of the Intrasudetic Synclinorium – the Krzeszów and the Police brachysynclines. In numerous exposures of Triassic and Upper Cretaceous sedimentary rocks, several brittle and a few soft-sediment deformation structures have been recognized. Their orientation and spatial distribution suggest that the Łączna Anticline is a horst-like, intra-basinal high, formed due to permanent extension, dextral strike-slip movements within fault zones, and negative flower structures. The studies did not confirm the occurrence of continuous deformations such as anticlinal bends and flexures. The results show that the preservation of some lithological varieties of sedimentary rocks within modern morphological and structural elevations reflects the migration of centres of maximum subsidence within a pull-apart basin system. A new structural and geodynamic interpretation for the Łączna Anticline area is proposed.
