    Aim. The study aimed at establishing whether there are any significant differences between the two translations of the same novels: one published unofficially and anonymously on the Internet, and the other published officially by the publisher. The elements taken into consideration in the analysis were: the culture-bound elements, the vulgar terms, and syntactic calques. Methods. The theoretical part of the research is based on the refraction theory by A. Lefevere (1992), according to whom translation is a process regulated by a system in which it functions. In opposition to the regulated translational activity stands unofficial Internet translation. The comparative analysis of the translations was further developed with the application the ‘foreignisation’and domestication dichotomy proposed by L. Venuti (1995). Results and conclusion. The results of the study imply that there are significant differences between the official and unofficial translations; the official translations aim at domesticating techniques, whereas the unofficial translations are more likely to apply ‘foreignising’ techniques, even at the cost of breaking cultural values of the target culture. Cognitive value. The Internet has become an  inseparable part of modern people’s daily life, yet Internet activities are still not regulated and researched to such a degree as ‘real world’ ones. The study aims at showing differences between the Internet and official translation, however, it is not able to answer the question regarding the roots of these differences. Further inquiries would be necessary in this case – if even possible.

    Cel badań. W związku z istniejącymi konkurującymi ze sobą teoriami ujmującymi podejście do kultury w przekładzie jako czynnik systemowy bądź pozasystemowy, celem badania jest przeanalizowanie przekładu elementów kulturowych w tłumaczeniu oficjalnym (czyli powstałym w systemie regulowanym przez patronów, wydawców, normy itd.) oraz nieoficjalnym (internetowym, powstałym w sposób dobrowolny, niezlecony i poza systemem). Metodologia. Dokonano porównania elementów kulturowych w przekładzie powieści Maybe Someday Colleen Hoover (2014), która została przetłumaczona zarówno przez Piotra Grzegorzewskiego (2016), jak i internetowego użytkownika posługującego się pseudonimem marika1311. W analizie wykorzystano koncepcję forenizacji i domestykacji Lawrence’a Venutiego (1995; 2004). Wyniki. Wyniki badania pokazują, że przekład internetowy jest znacznie bardziej forenizujący w porównaniu z przekładem funkcjonującym na rynku wydawniczym. Tłumaczka nieoficjalnego przekładu preferuje kulturę źródłową, czasem nawet kosztem poprawności i zrozumiałości tekstu docelowego. Wnioski. Sugeruje to, że podejście tłumacza do kultury może rzeczywiście być elementem regulowanym przez system, w którym tłumacz funkcjonuje; ale także wywieranie wpływu systemu na kulturę i język docelowy.
    Aim. There are numerous competing theories on the culture in the translation: some view culture as a systemic factor, some as an extrasystemic one. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyse the translation of culture-bound elements in the official translation (hence, one created in the system regulated by the patrons, publishers, norms etc.) and in the unofficial translation (the Internet one, created voluntarily – not commissioned – and outside of the publishing system). Methodology. The subject of the analysis is the translation of culture-bound elements in two translations into Polish of Colleen Hoover’s novel Maybe Someday (2014): one by Piotr Grzegorzewski (2016) and one by the Internet user functioni8ng under the nick marika1311. The concept of the foreignisation and domestication by Lawrence Venuti (1995; 2004) is applied in the analysis. Results. The results of the study show that the Internet translation is significantly more foreignising that the translation functioning on the market. The translator of the unofficial version prefers the source culture, even at the cost of the target text’s correctness and clarity. Conclusion. The results suggest that the translator’s approach to the culture in translation may in fact be an element regulated by the system in which the translator functions. Furthermore, they suggest that the system places emphasis on the target culture and target language.

    The article focuses on the multisemiotic functioning of Internet memes in communication through the web, focused, among other things, on a humorous effect. The role of the image, first of all, in the creation of the Internet meme and also in its re-application in a multicultural and interlingual environment seems fundamental. This iconic element is part of the large and varied number of relationships with other types of signs (linguistic, cultural, discursive). It seems that the question of the typological diversity of image-text relations (in the very broad sense of it) can be addressed from a variety of perspectives that involve not only a philosophy of translation, but also an approach to humorous communication on the Internet. The article aims to analyse the nature of the relationship that unites an iconic element with a linguistic element that constitutes the essence of the message conveyed by internet memes.

    Opis:
    The aim of the research was to extend the previous findings of different scholars concerning the emergence of Bolesław Leśmian’s literary output in Russia, particularly the Russia of today, by including the aspect of the Internet. The conducted analysis concerned both renowned Russian websites which present renditions of foreign literature into Russian and selected authorial websites publishing amateur translations as well as Internet sites which featured different kinds of comments about the Polish poet. The article also makes references to the issue of popularization of the Polish poet’s literary output and using this output as some grounds for new literary works or philosophical writing. It also gives a record of poems and vocal works devoted to Leśmian which came into being in the space of the Internet through creation of musical compositions to these texts, which undoubtedly proves the poet’s popularity among Russian-speaking Internet users.
    Celem podjętych badań było uzupełnienie wcześniejszych ustaleń różnych badaczy o zaistnieniu twórczości Bolesława Leśmiana w Rosji, a przede wszystkim w Rosji dzisiejszej, o relację dotyczącą przestrzeni Internetu. Przeprowadzona analiza dotyczyła zarówno uznanych stron internetowych, prezentujących przekłady literatury obcojęzycznej na język rosyjski, jak i wybranych stron autorskich, na których zamieszczono amatorskie tłumaczenia, a także stron, na których pojawiły się różnego rodzaju wzmianki o polskim poecie. W artykule odniesiono się także do problematyki popularyzacji twórczości polskiego poety i wykorzystania tej twórczości jako podstawy dla własnych utworów literackich bądź wypowiedzi filozoficznych. Zostały w nim też odnotowane zaistniałe w przestrzeni Internetu, a poświęcone Leśmianowi wiersze oraz utwory wokalne, będące rezultatem stworzenia kompozycji muzycznych do tych tekstów, co niewątpliwie jest dowodem jego popularności wśród rosyjskojęzycznych internautów.

    Within the framework of the studies concerning the reception of Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska’s poetry in the Soviet Union and in Russia, the author explores the issue of the political context in the target cultural and linguistic space.     Celem artykułu jest prezentacja rozważań dotyczących nowatorskiego zadania przekładowego, jakim jest tłumaczenie selektywno-streszczające ścieżek dźwiękowych programów telewizyjnych dostępnych w Internecie. Tłumaczenie selektywno-streszczające nie tylko doskonali kompetencję translatorską studentów, lecz także rozwija niektóre sprawności językowe. Na podstawie badania ankietowego przeprowadzonego wśród studentów autor omawia stopień trudności zadania oraz czynniki wpływające na jego efektywność dydaktyczną. Analiza wyników badania wykazała, że wyodrębnione czynniki są ze sobą skorelowane, a ich kompleksowe potraktowanie pozwoli znacząco zwiększyć efektywność tego zadania. Niniejsza praca stanowi rezultat doświadczeń autora w zakresie dydaktyki tłumaczenia pisemnego w Uniwersytecie Warszawskim i Uniwersytecie Śląskim w Katowicach.
    The aim of the article is to present reflections on an innovative translation exercise based on television programmes that are available on the Internet. Gist translation of TV programmes not only develops students’ translation competence, but also helps to improve their language skills. On the basis of surveys conducted among students, the author also discusses the assessment of the difficulty of this exercise and the factors that affect its didactic efficiency. The analysis of the survey results showed that the extracted factors correlate with each other, and their complex consideration will significantly improve the effectiveness of this exercise. The author also shares his experience of the use of the exercise in teaching translation at the University of Warsaw and the University of Silesia in Katowice.

    China is one of the very few countries in the world that managed to transform its online sphere both into a vibrant literary scene and into a tool of successful soft power. Some writers who represent the advent of online literature (wangluo wenxue) still enjoy best-selling and long-selling status. Despite that, the wide readership of such authors as Anni Baobei, Han Han or Murong Xuecun has not been followed by significant academic interest. This paper draws from the contribution made by Shao Yanjun to analyze whether the New-Style Literary Mechanisms (such as online literary forums) put forward by him shape textual features, and if so, whether these should be reflected in translation. The research combines literary criticism and translation theory perspectives to present some key features of Chinese Internet Literature by presenting an example of a popular short story authored by Anni Baobei Sisterhood (Qiyue yu Ansheng). The analysis of stylistic and linguistic characteristics of the translated excerpts is conducted from three perspectives: the specific text economy, unorthodox punctuation, and the attempt to recreate the mediatic realm of the source text conveyed inter alia through the approach to CSI (Culture-Specific Items). It is found that texts created under the new-style literary mechanism regime may influence the translation strategy and constitute the novelty of wangluo wenxue.

    The aim of this article is to show German-Polish and Polish-German specialized Internet dictionaries as an useful tool for translators. The paper consists of an introduction, a theoretical part, empirical part, and conclusions. In the theoretical part are shown selected issues of translations studies and lexicography, in particular concerning typology of dictionaries, the process of dictionary making, and dictionary structure. All these issues are important for further analysis. The subject of the analysis is German-Polish and Polish-German Internet dictionaries as one of modern tools available for the translator beside text corpora, data base or different kinds of tools for computer aided translation. Translators have specific needs and expectations toward dictionaries. Some of the online dictionaries investigated are not e-dictionaries par excellence, but should be rather regarded as printed dictionaries made available on an electronic platform. Nevertheless, there are also dictionaries developed exactly for Internet use. Are their macroand microstructures well-constructed and can they fulfill the specific needs of the translator?

    The article presents findings of the research into the use of discussion forums in remote learning. This tool was used in a series of academic classes aimed at developing selected elements of translation competence. The paper begins with a discussion of the notion of translation competence and its components, followed by a presentation of didactic objectives formulated for the presented series of classes with full-time teaching in mind, the level of knowledge and skills of the course participants, the degree of realization of the didactic objectives in remote teaching, and conclusions.
