Opis:
The paper considers the problem of adapting literary works in the context of the intermediality phenomenon. The author examines the significance of the latter category, considers the movie as an example of an intermedial text and shows the consequences of ‘translation’ of literature to other media and media transmissions. Intermediality, in the opinion of the author, is a part of the nature of the modern media market, to a large extent shaped by the specific needs of consumers.

Opis:
There is a sizeable body of scholarship concerning the ekphrastic relation of literature to painting – however, there has been ascending interest in other sources of inspiration, such as photography. The aim of this paper is to explore whether the categories used to analyse ekphraseis of paintings might apply to the ekphraseis inspired by photography in Sara Baume’s A Line Made by Walking (2017), considering that they provide insightful information regarding the creative process of the protagonist and her inner state. The notion of ekphrasis (Clüver, Vieira, Webb) and theories of photography (Barthes, Machado, Sontag) will be used as theoretical support.

Opis:
The contemporary rewritings of Don Juan’s myth highlight several forms of hybridity and illustrate the stakes involved. The hybridation affects in the first place the sources of the myth since the authors appeal to numerous intertextual references. But the successive transpositions of the mythical scenario also lead to a generic hybridity. This intermediality has a reflexive dimension: it raises the question of the limits of language to talk about the myth and abolishes the frontier between fiction and critical speech.

In this article, I analyze the problem of the interaction between literary and paralit-erary genres in the work of the Belarusian writer Andrus Horvat, winner of the Maxim Bahdanovich “Debut” Award in 2017. The intermedial potential, especially genealogical features of his work Radziwa ‘Prudok’ [‘Prudok’ Radio Station] will be discussed, as well as how it operates within the context of literature and various forms of visual art, which are subsumed under the main theme of this work, i.e. the search for the lost identity by the young generation of Belarusians.

Opis:
In Fellini’s Roma, the famous sequence in which ancient frescoes are discovered during the construction of the subway is a key scene and an allegory of his filmic and artistic approach. But Fellini’s boldness goes further. During the sequence, the filmmaker, using a somewhat fantastic shortcut, breaks through the wall that separates the world of the living and the forgotten world of ancient figures. He thus uses metalepsis at the heart of the film. Figures who were about to fade away under the effect of the outside world come again to life in his film, just as, in Virgil, the souls of the dead, grouped on the banks of the river Lethe, are waiting in the hope of returning to the world of the living. The film has often been compared to a patchwork, or a mosaic, imaging a complex and stratified city. But rather than a mosaic, we should speak of threshold crossings, that is to say rhetorical effects, amongst which the main one could be metalepsis. Fellini’s Roma is not only a melancholic and hectic fresco of a visionary director, but also an ever-moving network of initiatory paths. Through the Fellinian shifts and transgressions, it is the incessant renewal of Rome which is shown.

Opis:
In the article Harmony, polyphony or a grapy dissonance? About loneliness in Müller, Schubert and Baranczak's ‘Winterreise’, Anna Leśniewska juxtaposes different views on the process of experiencing the state of loneliness and despair: an exalted Werther romantic confronted with the cold-hearted rationalism of a 20th century cosmopolitan. The first stance is presented in Winterreise, a cycle of songs by Franz Schubert from 1827 to the lyrics of Wilhelm Müller, which is an extremely expressive demonstration of man's existential problems in the 1820s – including loneliness, a crisis of subjectivity, the failure of love, a sense of individual isolation, and attempts to gradually accept the approaching death without a certainty of existence of afterlife. The romantic view is contrasted with the poetic counterfactual Winter Journey. Poems to the music by Franz Schubert (Podróż zimowa. Wiersze do muzyki Franza Schuberta) written by Stanisław Barańczak in 1994 – a volume of poems strongly associated with Schubert's songs through explicit and implicit references, but remaining an autonomous creation. These two incompatible epochs condition the development of completely different crises related to an individual's infirmity towards the problem of loneliness, his social maladjustment and isolation caused by it, and his doubts about the meaning of human existence in the sense of metaphysical emptiness. Assuming a comparative perspective, one can feel a constant tension between Winterreise and Winter Journey. Evidently, Barańczak's Journey is an idiosyncratic response to the 19th century work, but the comparison of these shots and the study of their interrelations is made possible by the musical layer – the compositions of Franz Schubert – that links the two works and creates the "effect of mutual references in the Müller- Schubert-Barańczak triangle" described by Anna Węgrzyniakowa. Barańczak's Winter Journey, considered as a poetic counterfactual, grants a possibility of approaching the three texts comparatively; in this way, it allows us to confront Müller's and Barańczak's visions to answer the questions formulated by men of the 19th and late 20th centuries, accompanied by Schubert's compositions.

This article discusses phenomenon of adaptation of literary works in a digital environment. The authoress indicates most important features of new projects using examples from a polish understanding: intermediality, metatextuality, interactivity, multitask while reading, randomness, unpredictability and the uniqueness of every reading event. Also, she outlines the prospects of further research into transmedial genology. Digital adaptation is presented as an ontological transformation within literary studies.

Opis:
The present study does not approach digital games per se and in accordance with the, so to speak, matter-of-course habitus, i. e. within the frame of game studies discourse (regardless of the ludology-narratology debate and probably even continuing tension), but rather in a wider cultural context and that by following essentially their relations to other cultural contents and phenomena, cinema in particular. Hence the intermediality discourse is within the pursued reflection applied as, from the point of view of the author, a fruitful framework. Intermediality can be legitimately approached as such a relation between media which, as Petr Szczepanik puts it, 'creates indivisible fusions'. If we accept this thesis and utilize it as a starting point, film – connecting image, word and sound – appears to be intermedial apriori. On the basis of this and in connection with digital games (which, by the way, can be in terms of the aforementioned understood as intermedial a priori, too), such cinematic works of art – naturally, pars pro toto – are in the centre of interest here in which the a priori intermedial character of film is in a sense amplified or rather brought to a square (film as 'intermedium') – in this case and context by evincing ties, implicit and/or explicit, to digital games.

The starting point of these considerations in the form of a case study are two issues: intermediality as a distinguishing mark of contemporary hybrid art forms and numerous references to famous films in the latest Polish theatre. The article concerns the performance Between the mouth and the edge of the cup (directed by Remigiusz Brzyk, Zagłębie Theatre in Sosnowiec, 17.05.2019). This performance, inspired by the biography of Maria Rodziewiczówna, is an example of the corelation of various media and an autothematic show whose theme is the writer's biography, popular novel, film and their reception.

Music in literature
Intermediality
Comparative
Opis:
One of the typical phenomena of the latest Polish literature (created after 1989) is its musicality. Inclusion of references to performers, specific songs or musical aesthetics in the semantic layer is not only an example of intertextual reference, but an expression of broadly understood intermediality. Music becomes an essential point of reference for new generations of artists, which is audible in the narrative layer of this literature. If one were to look for the beginnings of ‘sound’ in literature, one should look to the generations of ‘martial law’ or ‘bruLion’ when, alongside politics (Solidarity) and religion (the Church), alternative music, with its Jarocin Festival, has become a powerful ideological narrative, expressing rebellion against applicable norms. In this way, it entered the literary salons, displacing traditional understanding of the correspondence of the arts, relating to the relationship between literature and classical music. Currently, it is popular music which is the main carrier of intermedial meanings in literary texts.
