Background. Bio-pharmaceutical supplements are widely used and essential for consumer health awareness. They are commonly used as alternative or complementary medicine. The bio-pharmaceutical market includes substances with health benefits beyond nutritional value, such as dietary supplements, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, botanicals, etc. These products traditionally prevent and treat diseases. Material and methods. The study explores the impact of online social marketing on consumer behavior regarding biopharmaceutical products in Pakistan. Using involvement theory, it investigates how online social marketing influences purchase intentions, specifically regarding health and well-being. Results. During three months, from January to March 2023, a survey was conducted in Lahore, a city known for significant sales and purchases of these products. The study involved 500 female participants. The statistical analysis indicated excellent fit of the proposed model (χ²=12.5427, p=0.056; CFI, NFI, TLI>0.95; RMSEA=0.028), where situation mediates product’s effect on purchase (ab=0.1068). Product directly impacts purchase (c’=0.4273), showing significant influence on purchase (total effect=0.5341). Conclusions. The paper reviews social marketing literature, delving into the nexus of biopharma products, health, and their influence on purchase intentions. It identifies critical research gaps and suggests future directions, offering valuable insights for academia and Pakistan’s biopharmaceutical industry, focusing on advancing healthcare-related initiatives.
Wprowadzenie. Suplementy biofarmaceutyczne cieszą się dużą popularnością, a ich stosowanie wiąże się z rosnącą świadomością konsumentów dotyczącą zdrowia. W wielu przypadkach są zażywane w roli alternatywnych leków lub środków uzupełniających leczenie. Rynek suplementów biofarmaceutycznych oferuje środki zapewniające szereg korzyści zdrowotnych wykraczających poza proste wartości odżywcze – suplementy diety, aminokwasy, witaminy, minerały, substancje pochodzenia roślinnego i wiele innych. Zgodnie z powszechnym przekonaniem, substancje te zapobiegają chorobom i pomagają w ich leczeniu. Materiał i metody. Celem analizy jest badanie wpływu działań w zakresie internetowego marketingu społecznego na zachowania konsumentów związane z produktami biofarmaceutycznymi w Pakistanie. Wykorzystując koncepcje zaczerpnięte z teorii zaangażowania zbadano, w jaki sposób działania wpisujące się w zakres internetowego marketingu społecznego wpływają na decyzje zakupowe związane ze zdrowiem oraz dobrym samopoczuciem. Wyniki. W ramach trwających trzy miesiące badań, realizowanych w okresie od stycznia do marca 2023 roku autorzy przeprowadzili badania ankietowe w mieście Lahore, które charakteryzuje się wysokimi wskaźnikami sprzedaży i zakupów tych produktów. W badaniach wzięło udział 500 kobiet. Przeprowadzona analiza statystyczna potwierdziła doskonałe dopasowanie proponowanego modelu (χ²=12,5427; p=0,056; CFI, NFI, TLI>0,95; RMSEA=0,028), zgodnie z założeniami którego sytuacja oddziałuje na wpływ produktu na zakup (ab=0,1068). Produkt oddziałuje bezpośrednio na decyzję o zakupie (c’=0,4273), co wskazuje na znaczący wpływ na zakup (całkowity efekt=0,5341). Wnioski. Artykuł obejmuje przegląd opracowań naukowych dotyczących marketingu społecznego, a także analizę ogniw łączących produkty biofarmaceutyczne, zdrowie oraz wpływ tych czynników na zamiary zakupowe. Wskazano kluczowe braki w dotychczasowych badaniach oraz wyznaczono nowe kierunki badawcze, uwzględniając cenne spostrzeżenia dla środowiska akademickiego i pakistańskiego przemysłu biofarmaceutycznego, koncentrując się na rozwoju inicjatyw związanych z opieką zdrowotną.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a model depicting the relationship between the behavioral intention of tourists in the conditions prevailing during a pandemic and other variables. Design/methodology/approach – In constructing the research procedure, two measurements of tourist behavioral intention were taken into account, which were taken far apart in time. In verifying the developed model, the results of surveys of 1,615 people carried out in June 2021 and 917 people carried out in December 2021 were considered. Findings – As a result of the habituation process, tourists show greater acceptance of the restrictions. Practical implications – Information on the basis of which companies make management decisions plays a significant role in the creation of company value. In the tourism sector, the information concerns primarily consumer behavior. Originality/value – Changes over time in risk perception, health protection motivation, and reactance due to perceived pandemic-related restrictions were taken into account in the context of behavioral intention towards tourism.

This paper examines the effect of the riskiness of the top four cryptocurrencies on the riskiness of stock market indexes in Egypt, being recognized as a developing country. The analysis uses daily data on cryptocurrencies and the three stock market indexes covering January 2020 to January 2023. The risk is measured using the holding period Value at Risk (VaR). The GMM results show that (a) cryptocurrency volatility is negatively associated with the volatility of stock market indexes. That is, the higher the investors’ interest in trading cryptocurrencies, the lower the volatility of stock market indexes as investors trade stocks less frequently, (b) cryptocurrencies can provide hedge and diversification benefits, and (c) the relationship between volatilities of cryptocurrencies and stock market indexes varies across indexes, therefore, contingent.

Research background: Chatbots represent valuable technological tools that allow companies to improve customer experiences, meet their expectations in real time, and provide them with personalized assistance. They have contributed to the transformation of conventional customer service models into online solutions, offering accessibility and efficiency through their integration across various digital platforms. Nevertheless, the existing literature is limited in terms of exploring the potential of chatbots in business communication and studying their impact on the customer's response. Purpose of the article: The main objective of this study is to examine how consumers perceive chatbots as customer service devices. In particular, the paper aims to analyze the influence of the dimensions of “Information”, “Entertainment”, “Media Appeal”, “Social Presence” and “Risk for Privacy” on the “Customer Experience” and the latter on the “Purchase Intention”, under the consideration of the Uses and Gratifications Theory. Moderations due to Chatbot Usage Frequency for some of the relationships proposed are also analyzed.  Methods: An empirical study was performed through a questionnaire to Spanish consumers. The statistical data analysis was conducted with R software through the lavaan package. To test the hypotheses from the conceptual model a structural equation modelling approach was adopted. Findings & value added: The results obtained identify the main characteristics of chatbots that can support brands to effectively develop their virtual assistants in order to manage their relational communication strategies and enhance their value proposal through the online customer journey. Findings demonstrate the contribution that chatbot dimensions make to the online consumer experience and its impact on the purchase intention, with the consideration of the moderating effect exercised by the user's level of experience (novice vs. experienced) with the use of chatbots. Regarding managerial implications, this research offers recommendations for e-commerce professionals to manage chatbots more effectively. The “Entertainment” and “Social Presence” dimensions can be operationalized at a visual (e.g., appearance of the avatar and text box, use of designs aligned with the website) and textual level (e.g., style and tone of voice, use of expressions typical of the target audience) to generate a feeling of proximity with the chatbot and facilitate its adoption. “Media Appeal” requires that the chatbot be easy to use, effective, and accessible, to facilitate its usability. Finally, mitigation of “Privacy Risk” concerns should be achieved by presenting an appropriate privacy policy and requesting permission for the use of customers’ private information.

Celem badania było sprawdzenie zależności między zaangażowaniem w pracę personelu a chęcią do odejścia z pracy w kontekście płci pracowników. W tym celu przeprowadzono badanie ilościowe (N = 123) w grupie młodych respondentów z różnorodnych przedsiębiorstw w Polsce. Przeprowadzono analizę korelacji i moderacji. Zastosowano ramy koncepcyjne modelu planowanych zachowań. Ustalono, że płeć jest moderatorem wpływu zaangażowania w pracę na chęć odejścia z niej. Dla kobiet większe zaangażowanie w pracę przekłada się na mniejszą chęć odejścia niż dla mężczyzn. Próba nie była statystycznie reprezentatywna. Artykuł pogłębia poznanie uwarunkowań chęci odejścia z pracy. Przeanalizowano zaangażowanie w pracę jako poprzednik odejścia z pracy i wskazano na rolę płci w tym procesie. Praktyczne implikacje: budowanie narzędzi do zwiększania zaangażowania w pracę u młodych pracowników, z uwzględnieniem różnic między kobietami a mężczyznami.
The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between staff work engagement and their turnover intention in the context of staff gender. For this purpose, a quantitative survey (N = 123) was conducted with a group of young respondents from a variety of companies in Poland. Correlation and moderation analysis was conducted. The conceptual framework of the planned behaviour model was applied. It was found that gender is a moderator of the effect of work engagement on the intention to leave a job. For women, higher work engagement translates into lower willingness to quit than for men. The sample was not statistically representative. The article deepens the understanding of the determinants of willingness to leave a job. It analyses work engagement as a predictor of leaving a job and points out the role of gender in this process. Practical implications are the following: building tools to increase work engagement in young employees, taking into account differences between men and women.

Research background: Although perceived barriers are considered one of the central constructs in entrepreneurship research, most previous studies only examine the direct effect of perceived barriers on attitudes and/or intentions to become entrepreneurs. Little attention is paid to how perceived barriers can weaken individuals' translation from entrepreneurial intentions to actual behaviors. Purpose of the article: This research aims to adopt the Social Cognitive Career Theory and a moderated mediation model to bridge the entrepreneurial intention-action link, investigate the moderation effects of perceived barriers on this link and the mediation path from entrepreneurial self-efficacy to entrepreneurial behavior via entrepreneurial intention. Methods: A valid sample of 1,698 Vietnamese respondents with real working and business experiences through the stratified random sampling with three stages and PROCESS macro approach have been used to examine the moderated mediation effect of perceived barriers on the entrepreneurial self-efficacy-intention-behavior linkages. Findings & value added:  The findings of this study shed new light on entrepreneurial literature by applying the Social Cognitive Career Theory to illustrate the moderated mediation effects of perceived barriers and entrepreneurial intention in the relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial behavior. Particularly, the translation from entrepreneurial intentions into start-up actions was found to became weaker when perceived barriers was high. Moreover, perceived barriers were also found to negatively moderate the indirect effects of entrepreneurial self-efficacy on start-up behaviors through entrepreneurial intentions. The findings of our study also provide several essential recommendations for policymakers and practitioners to encourage individuals' business venture creations and enhance entrepreneurial ecosystem.

National Education Policy 2020 perceives an education system grounded in Indian ethos that significantly contributes to transforming India, or Bharat, sustainably into an inclusive and dynamic knowledge community by offering high-quality education for all, thereby attempting to make India a global knowledge superpower. The development of India into a democratic, just, socially conscious, cultured, and compassionate country preserving liberty, equality, fraternity, and justice for all envisioned in its Constitution depends greatly on higher education. In addition to developing well-rounded individuals with critical 21st-century skills in the arts, humanities, languages, sciences, social sciences, professional, technical, and vocational fields, such education will also foster an ethic of social engagement, soft skills as well as a rigorous specialisation in a particular field or fields. NEP 2020 will open a new horizon to young graduates by focusing on better teaching-learning methods and revolutionising the higher education sector. Since these calls for a major change in the traditional undergraduate programmes, it is essential to understand students’ perceptions towards this move and how they respond to such a change. This study aims to understand the behavioural intention of students to opt for integrated and honours programmes as envisaged by the NEP. The study adopted an exploratory as well as a descriptive research design. Sample respondents selected for the current study are the students pursuing their Plus-two course or those who completed it, waiting for their higher education in Kerala. The study results revealed that the behavioural intention of students to enrol for integrated and honours programmes is influenced by many factors: their perceived enjoyment, innovation anxiety, self-efficacy, performance expectancy, ease of learning, and usefulness.

Many retailers have low sales due to the difficulty in the purchase decision of their customers. Previous research shows the lack of studies on the impact of store interiors on purchase decisions. This study aims to find out various visual merchandising factors that affect purchase intentions at XYZ retail stores and focuses on visual merchandising itself, as well as store environment and customer inspiration factors that affect customer behaviour. The non-probability sampling technique with analysing 140 respondents using an online questionnaire with SMART PLS was used to conduct this research. The results show that customer inspirations directly influence customers’ purchase intentions. Visual merchandising and store environment indirectly affect purchase intention as well, mediated by customer inspirations. The customer inspiration variable is in the good category in the XYZ store. It is recommended to use quick response in visual merchandising and develop a store environment virtually that can be connected to a customer’s device.

Despite strong development in Vietnam’s major cities, buses only contribute to city traffic. Bus services in Vietnamese towns do not yet meet passengers’ current needs and are not popular with passengers, especially in terms of time and convenience. This article analyzes the factors affecting urban people’s intention to use buses in Vietnam and, on that basis, makes recommendations to the authorities in cities to enhance the attractiveness of bus usage. Twenty-seven factors have been identified as affecting the need to travel by bus. The survey results show that there are still many barriers to attracting passengers using bus services in urban metropolitan areas. Therefore, urban governments in Vietnam need to adjust the current bus route network to suit the needs of the people, especially students, to increase its coverage.

Research background: Previous studies have argued that empathy (EMP) is an important factor that enhances individuals’ intention to engage in social business. However, the effect of this factor on social entrepreneurial intention (SEI) is unclear (Ukil et al., 2023). Also, although numerous studies have explored the individual impacts of EMP and social entrepreneurial self-efficacy (SES) on SEI, there is a notable scarcity of research that delves into the combined influence of these two predictor variables on the intention to engage in social business. Purpose of the article: This study proposes that EMP does not only individually affect, but also interacts with other factors to influence the intention to start a social business. Therefore, this study aims to investigate how EMP and SES interact to promote SEI. Methods: Based on a survey dataset of 409 respondents in Vietnam, this study employed polynomial regression with response surface analysis to examine the complementary, balance, and imbalance effects of EMP and SES on SEI. Findings & value added: This study's results suggest complementary effects between EMP and SES on SEI. Specifically, this study finds that when EMP and SES are balanced at higher levels, SEI is higher, and when their imbalance increases in either direction, SEI is lower. In addition, this study finds that the degree of SEI is higher when individuals have high SES with low EMP compared to the other way round. The findings of this study enhance our understanding of the complexity of motivation and how it affects SEIs, revealing the complex interaction between EMP and SES in shaping these intentions within a multidimensional motivational framework.

The study was conducted to determine the factors affecting the intention of people to segregate garbage in Vinh Chau town, Soc Trang province, Vietnam by surveying 198 households. Cronbach’s alpha analysis method, EFA analysis, and linear regression analysis were used in the study. The analysis results of Cronbach’s Alpha index, KMO and Bartlett's test showed that the questionnaire data used in the study was highly reliable and were suitable for EFA analysis. The results of linear regression analysis identified three factors including "subjective norm", "control of cognitive behavior" and "perceived level of garbage classification information" that had positive impact on intention of domestic solid waste classification of local people in Vinh Chau town, Soc Trang province, in which "subjective norm" was considered to be the most influential factor on the intention to classify domestic solid waste in the study area. Besides, the intention of the people to segregate the domestic solid waste was highly appreciated, but it has not been widely implemented in the locality. Therefore, the study proposed some governance implications based on the factors affecting the intention of people to classify household solid wastes. In particular, local authorities should pay special attention to propagating and disseminating policies and guidelines on the information of domestic solid waste and implementing a model of waste segregation at source.

Aim. This study aims to understand the factors determining university students’ behavioural intentions toward online learning in Bangladesh. Specifically, this study investigates the relationship between performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE), social influence (SI), facilitating conditions (FC), and behavioural intention (BI). Moreover, this study explores the influence of pandemic fear (PF) as a moderator in the relationship between exogenous and endogenous factors. Methods. The study is cross-sectional and followed a quantitative research approach with purposive sampling. Data were collected at a single point using a sample size of 578 respondents who studied online during the various phases of lockdown at five public and five private universities in Bangladesh. Regarding multivariate analysis, the Partial Least Squares - Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) is applied in this study to test the causal relationships in the structural model, as it is considered a second-generation technique. Results. Statistically, a positive significance was found between PE, EE, SI, and BI in online learning participation. Whereas the FC and the BI exhibited a negative relationship, a positive relationship was found between PE, EE, and the SI on BI. In addition, a moderating role for PF was investigated, and EE and FC were found to influence BI significantly. Conclusion. This study presents an extended UTAUT model by integrating pandemic fear as the moderator to study students' behavioural intention to adopt an online learning system under a disruptive situation. Practitioners, especially academicians and policymakers, will find this model useful while developing andragogic interventions for the higher education sector in Bangladesh.

Problematyka legalności stanowi jeden z najistotniejszych wątków w dorobku naukowym Profesora Józefa Nowackiego. Wyróżniał on dwa rozumienia legalności: mocniejsze, sprowadzające się do ustalenia zgodności zachowania z postanowieniami należycie ustanowionego przepisu i słabsze, gdy jedyną podstawą prawną jest nakaz kierowania się określoną oceną. W opinii autora koncepcja J. Nowackiego nie uwzględnia w należyty sposób rzeczywistych problemów z ustalaniem znaczenia tekstu prawnego, tj. problemów interpretacyjnych. Stwierdzenie, że legalność to zgodność z treścią przepisu przenosi bowiem ciężar ustaleń w tej materii na podmiot dokonujący jego interpretacji. Autor omawia dwa podejścia do wykładni prawa, tj. podejście eklektyczne, w którym zakłada się brak uniwersalnego kryterium poprawności wykładni i podejście kategoryczne, w którym zakłada się, że takie kryterium istnieje. Wskazuje, że jedynie podejście kategoryczne daje się pogodzić z ideą rządów prawa i rolą sędziów jako wiernych powierników (faithful agents) prawodawcy. Proponuje zatem, by jako kryterium poprawności wykładni przyjąć zgodność z intencją prawodawcy. W takim ujęciu znika potrzeba rozróżniania legalności w wersji mocniejszej i słabszej. Kwalifikacja zachowania jako legalnego lub nielegalnego następować będzie w oparciu o kryterium zgodności z intencją prawodawcy.
The issue of legality is one of the most important threads in the scientific achievements of Professor Józef Nowacki. He distinguished two ways of understanding legality: a stronger one, which boils down to determining the compliance of behaviour with the contents of a duly enacted provision, and a weaker one, when the only legal basis is an obligation to employ a specific kind of evaluation. In the author’s opinion, Nowacki’s idea does not adequately take into account the fundamental problems with determining the meaning of a legal provision, i.e., problems of interpretation. The proposition that legality means compliance with the contents of a provision transfers the burden of making findings in this respect onto the subject interpreting it. The author discusses two approaches to statutory interpretation, i.e., the eclectic approach, in which there is no universal criterion for the correctness of interpretation, and the categorical approach, in which it is assumed that such a criterion exists. He points out that only a categorical approach can be reconciled with the idea of the rule of law and the role of judges as faithful agents of the legislator. Therefore, he proposes that compliance with the intention of the legislator should be taken as a criterion for the correctness of the interpretation. When legality is approached this way, the need to distinguish its stronger and weaker versions disappears. The qualification of a behaviour as legal or illegal will be based on the criterion of compliance with the intention of the legislator.

Purpose – Self-employment is considered one of the responses to precarious employment, particularly among those who lost jobs during an economic crisis. Although starting a new business is widely available, operating new ventures remains challenging. This article aims to explore the premises of self-employment success, namely self-employment intention and proactive coping as crucial predictors of further performance. Design/methodology/approach – The authors recruited participants among initially unemployed individuals who participated in the entrepreneurial program aimed at creating self-employment. Since entrepreneurs are expected to have specific personal characteristics important for performance, the authors assessed proactive coping as the key factor for self-employment intention. Findings – The results depicted proactive coping as crucial in performing own ventures in the long run, which suggests that self-employment intention may change over time. Practical implications – Proactive coping is particularly appropriate for self-employed at any stage of the entrepreneurial process because it maintains the intention to perform own business. Thus, the findings underline the need for proactive coping training for entrepreneurs, particularly those previously unemployed. Originality/value – As the self-employment intention may differ in time, the importance of being proactive in operating small businesses increases.
