The research objective for this study is to investigate different Information Technology (IT) tools for Business Intelligence (BI) development. Firstly, the issue of BI was identified and the various ages in BI development were presented. Then, the most important IT tools used in BI development were discussed. Finally, some strengths and weaknesses of described tools were demonstrated. The study was based mainly on a critical analysis of literature, creative thinking and an interpretive philosophy. The results of this research can be used by IT and business leaders as they plan and develop BI applications in their organizations.
Celem artykułu jest rozpoznanie możliwości różnych narzędzi IT do budowy aplikacji Business Intelligence (BI). Na wstępie zidentyfikowano istotę BI oraz opisano trzy etapy rozwoju systemów BI. Następnie omówiono różne narzędzia IT, jakie mogą być stosowane do budowy BI w organizacjach. Ostatecznie, mocne i słabe strony tych narzędzi zostały zaprezentowane. Badania zostały przeprowadzone w oparciu o krytyczną analizę literatury przedmiotu. Wyniki badań mogą być interesujące dla specjalistów IT oraz menedżerów, którzy planują tworzenie aplikacji BI w swoich organizacjach.

W artykule zaprezentowane zostały wyniki badań, które dotyczyły samooceny uczniów w zakresie korzystania z narzędzi technologii informacyjnej. Uzyskane wyniki badań dowiodły, że badani uczniowie są świadomi dobrodziejstw współczesnej techniki i umiejętnie z nich korzystają. Widoczny jest wzrost umiejętności w deklaracjach badanych w zależności od wieku uczniów.
The paper presents the results of the research concerning students' selfesteem as far as the use of information technology tools is concerned. The results proved that the students are aware of the benefits of modern technology and that they use them skillfully An increase in. skills is visible in the declarations of respondents, depending on the age of the students.

Opis:
The paper presents the main issues of the management of electrical grids. Selected information technology tools supporting electrical grids maintenance are presented. In electrical infrastructure maintenance of power companies, geographic information systems are increasingly used to support the management of their resources. Their functionalities in terms of creating comprehensive databases for the electrical infrastructure of the power sector are described. The important information technology tools regarding spatial systems for supporting maintenance and operation management electrical grids and the conditions of their implementation are presented. This paper also attempts to present an innovative multidimensional evaluation of the technical and economic benefits resulting from the use of modern information technology tools for the management of energy infrastructure.

Warunki eksploatacji miejskich sieci ciepłowniczych muszą sprostać wielu wyzwaniom, w tym restrykcyjnym wymaganiom UE, dotyczącym polityki zrównoważonego rozwoju, ograniczenia emisji zanieczyszczeń, zmniejszenia zużycia energii oraz poprawy efektywności energetycznej w całym systemie ciepłowniczym. Obecnie wiele przedsiębiorstw energetycznych wytwarzających lub przesyłających ciepło wdraża technologie informatyczne i opracowuje strategie operacyjne w celu zoptymalizowania kosztów i poprawy ogólnej pracy sieci. W artykule omówiono systemy i narzędzia informatyczne, w tym dwa nowoczesne programy dostępne na rynku europejskim, będące zaawansowanymi narzędziami do analizowania pracy sieci ciepłowniczych w zakresie bieżącej eksploatacji oraz planowania ich rozbudowy. Programy umożliwiają dokonanie wszelkich inżynierskich obliczeń hydraulicznych i termodynamicznych, zarówno statycznych, jak i dynamicznych.
The exploitation of district heating networks has to cope with many challenges, such as EU demands involving balanced development policy, carbon dioxide emission limits, energy usage reduction and increasing the energetic efficiency of the heating systems. Many energetic companies at present apply information technology and work on cost optimization strategies and improving their heating systems in general. The article covers the usage of different methods and technologies, including two modern computer systems available on the European market which are advanced devices for analyzing heating system exploitation and for planning its development. The computer programs enables hydraulic and thermodynamic calculation, both static and dynamic.

Opis:
Systems analysis and design (SAND) is an information systems (IS) course that is taught around the world in most higher education management of information systems (MIS) programmes. However, the theoretical nature of this type of course presents challenges for instructors as they devise instructional strategies to convey the abstract concepts that are necessary for their students to understand, such as, how to draw data flow diagrams (DFD) to correctly represent the informational specifications of an IS. Evidence suggests that one of the factors of the low success rates of many IS-design projects in the workforce is due to the graduate recruits’ failure to acquire basic SAND knowledge. While a considerable amount of literature focused on integrating technology into the teaching practices to facilitate the knowledge acquisition, a few investigated its effectiveness to fulfil this particular purpose. This paper reflects on such challenges and proposes an evaluation approach to assess the effectiveness of technology integration in teaching an IS course like SAND. The empirical interpretations represented in this paper are gathered through a series of quasi-experimental 2x3 factorial experiments that were conducted at four higher education institutions and based on the Rasch item response theory and measurement analysis. The preliminary analysis from this study provides reliable evidence to delineate key instructional strategies when designing higher education IS courses.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza okresu ostatnich 35 lat. Okres lat 1980–1984 to czas, kiedy na Wydziale Zarządzania zmienił się program studiów z zakresu zastosowań informatyki w zarządzaniu. Rozwój systemów i technologii informatycznej jest dość mocno skorelowany ze zmianami metod zarządzania i struktur organizacyjnych. Celem artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytania: Jakim zmianom uległ system zarządzania, który musiał się dostosować się do coraz to powszechniejszego stosowania zarządzania projektowego i globalizacji zarządzania? Jakie w tym czasie nastąpiły zmiany w technologii informacyjnej?
The article is an analysis of the period of the last 35 years. The 1980–1984 period is the time when the Faculty of Management studies program changed as regards the application of informatics in management. In the 1980s, the computing center was also established. It was also a period of transformation of the management system and development of science. The development of systems and information technology is quite correlated with changes in management methods and organizational structures. This article attempts to answer the questions: What changes occurred in the system, which had to adapt to the increasingly widespread use of project management and management globalization? What changes occurred in information technology over that period?

The Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) at its 81st session decided to include, in the work programmes of the NAV and COMSAR Sub-Committees, a high priority item on "Development of an e–navigation strategy”. E-navigation is meant to integrate existing and new electronic navigational tools (ship and shore based) into one comprehensive system that will contribute to enhanced navigational safety and security while reducing the workload of the mariner (navigator). This paper describes present IT created to support navigational and administrative activities related to vessel movement and cargo transhipment. Direction of development of existing systems is drafted with reference to E-Navigation concept. Information sets available for the vessel in Polish Sea Areas are grouped.

Niniejsza praca jest analizą stanu obecnego, jak i kierunków rozwoju zintegrowanych systemów zarządzania zasobami przedsiębiorstwa, zwanych popularnie systemami ERP (ang. Enterprise Resource Planning) w porównaniu z systemami do zarządzania zasobami wojskowymi zwłaszcza w trakcie działań militarnych, tj. systemami BMS (ang. Battlefield Management System). Znaczna część artykułu została poświęcona prezentacji najnowszych rozwiązań tego typu oprogramowania i wyróżnieniu w nich cech innowacyjnych, które w najbliższym czasie nadal będą rozwijane lub rozbudowywane. Głównym celem opracowania było wykazanie, iż w dobie dynamicznych zmian otoczenia osiąganie sukcesów w zakresie zarządzania przez zarówno przedsiębiorstwa, instytucje wojskowe, jak i związki operacyjne bądź taktyczne idzie w parze ze wspieraniem działalności nowoczesnymi systemami informacyjnymi. Oprogramowanie to, tworzone przy użyciu zaawansowanych technologii informatycznych, wywołuje swego rodzaju „sprzężenie zwrotne”, bowiem staje się podstawą budowania współczesnych modeli zarządzania organizacjami czy też strategii zarówno biznesowych, jak i wojskowych.
The purpose of this article is to analyze the current situation as well as the development trends of the integrated Enterprise Resource Management systems in comparison with the Battlefield Management systems. The main part of the article is devoted to the presentation of the latest solutions in this type of software and the indication of the innovative features which will continue to be developed or expanded in the near future. In addition, the reader will be made famil-iar with a detailed analysis of this trend of expansion in the automotive industry, which has been particularly affected during the global economic downturn. The main purpose of the article is to demonstrate that the dynamic changes in the age of achieving a successful economic environment are going hand in hand with the promotion of modern management systems, which are created with advanced information technologies. They are the basis for creating new models of organization management or business strategies.

Currently, digital skills have become an important factor for the development and active participation in today's information society. The article describes innovative IT methods and tools used in the education process. New technologies and new methods of conducting classes form the basis of today's education. Traditional methods have been replaced by digital tools that are perfect at the stage of educating school students in IT profiles, preparing them for vocational exams. The article compares the results of school students from vocational exams at the Technical College of Lublin with the results from the entire Lubelskie Voivodeship.
Aktualnie cyfrowe umiejętności stały się istotnym czynnikiem rozwoju i aktywnego uczestnictwa w dzisiejszym społeczeństwie informacyjnym. W artykule opisano innowacyjne metody oraz narzędzia informatyczne wykorzystywane w procesie kształcenia. Nowe technologie oraz nowe metody prowadzenia zajęć lekcyjnych stanowią podstawę dzisiejszej edukacji. Tradycyjne metody zostały zastąpione cyfrowymi narzędziami, które doskonale sprawdzają się na etapie kształcenia młodzieży szkolnej w szkołach o profilu informatycznym, przygotowujących młodzież do egzaminów zawodowych. W artykule porównano wyniki egzaminów zawodowych uczniów Technikum Informatycznego w Lublinie z wynikami uczniów z całego województwa lubelskiego.

The article describes some preliminary results of the implementation of Work Package 4 (WP4) “Selection and testing new ICT tools” within a framework of the international research network IRNet and researchers from partner institutions from Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine and Australia. These results concern analyzing and studying some categories of ICT tools for making didactic videos. The whole package period was divided into several main stages 1-5. The role of multimedia in teaching is considerable since they offer various information presentation formats simultaneously. The advantage of combining text, audio, images, animation, video and hyperlinks lies in the use of both main channels - visual and verbal - for making didactic videos in an efficient way. Features of an effective presentation and examples of computer programs which may be used for this purpose have also been shown in the paper. The authors presented a ranking list based on the quality and quantity assessment of choosing ICT tools, proposed some recommendations of features of good didactic videos and analyzed some mistakes users make most frequently while elaborating didactic videos.

The article presents the theory that modern technologies are changing the way in which marketing is organised and that they will transform the prevailing composition of the market, while enterprises should come to terms with the act that having a market share will no longer suffice to maintain the market leader position. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the key challenges generated by technological innovations and to identify the opportunities for marketing in light of the new communication and information technologies so that quantifiable benefits can be gained. The research topic underpinning this paper is: 1) an analysis of social media use by the Millennial generation; 2) an evaluation of the attitudes of SMEs towards the incorporation of information technology into their current marketing practices; 3) determining the implementation possibilities of Marketing 4.0 by promoting a flexible approach to organising marketing actions. Following a review of the available literature on the subject, we will present a concept of the model of the flexible organisation of marketing actions. The D3I2C concept combines today’s marketing actions and digital transformation. It can be harnessed by academia and other organisations seeking guidance on the implementation of transformation in the organisation of marketing actions.
W artykule postawiono tezę, że nowoczesne technologie zmienią sposób, w jaki zorganizowany jest marketing, a także przekształcą zastaną kompozycję rynku, a przedsiębiorstwa powinny pogodzić się z tym, że sam fakt posiadania części rynku nie będzie już wystarczał, by trwale utrzymać pozycję rynkowego lidera. Celem niniejszej publikacji jest podsumowanie głównych wyzwań przynoszonych przez innowacje technologiczne, a także określenie możliwości rysujących się przed marketingiem w świetle nowych technologii komunikacyjno-informatycznych, by można było dzięki temu odnosić wymierne korzyści. Tematyka badawcza leżąca u podstaw niniejszej pracy to: 1) analiza korzystania z mediów społecznościowych przez pokolenie Milenialsów, 2) ocena postaw MŚP wobec włączania technologii teleinformatycznych w stosowane przez nich obecnie praktyki marketingowe, 3) określenie możliwości zastosowania Marketingu 4.0 poprzez wspieranie elastycznego podejścia w organizacji działań marketingowych. Po przeprowadzeniu przeglądu dostępnych publikacji przedstawiamy koncepcję modelu elastycznej organizacji działań marketingowych. Koncepcja D3I2C to połączenie współcześnie stosowanych działań marketingowych i transformacji cyfrowej. Opis:
Złożoność, wieloetapowość oraz niejednorodność przedsięwzięć inżynieryjnych wiąże się z trudnościami w doborze narzędzi informatycznych, umożliwiających ich racjonalne wspomaganie. Brak zgodności informacyjnej i funkcjonalnej poszczególnych aplikacji, wykorzystywanych do wspomagania kolejnych etapów złożonego przedsięwzięcia sprawia, że spójna realizacja takiego procesu jest albo znacznie utrudniona, albo wręcz niemożliwa. Istotna zatem wydaje się próba dokonania oceny możliwości wykorzystania do tego celu zintegrowanych aplikacji o charakterze hybrydowym. Wykorzystywane są one z powodzeniem do wspomagania złożonych, niejednorodnych przedsięwzięć o charakterze biznesowym, a ich specyfika i znaczny zakres potencjalnych zastosowań umożliwia ich wykorzystanie również w zakresie problemów inżynieryjnych, oferując przy tym spójność informacyjną i funkcjonalną całego przedsięwzięcia.
Engineering tasks, such as the ones presented in the article related to civil engineering, examined in the informational and decision-making context, are frequently complex, multi-stage and heterogeneous in nature. This leads to difficulties when selecting IT tools that enable their support. No informational or functional conformity of particular applications used to support the subsequent stages of a complex task makes the coherent realisation of such a process considerably harder or even impossible. Support of numerous homogenous engineering tasks is provided with the use of technologies that have been adopted from other management areas, mainly dedicated to business operations. This is what one should also do with complex and heterogeneous engineering problems. It seems rational that integrated applications that allow one to both solve algorithmic problems and heuristic ones should be employed. Integrated hybrid systems ensure continuity of support for complex, multi-stage engineering problems, at the same time offering informational and functional coherence of the whole task.

Opis:
Background: Currently, many IT tools are used in every field. Therefore, the management of enterprises want modern IT solutions to also include logistic applications in various and diversified business profiles. It is also related to the minimization of operating costs. The EDI system makes it possible to achieve such goals. For this reason, research was carried out in selected Polish and Russian enterprises and the results were presented together with the conclusions regarding the use of the EDI system. Methods: The comparision of small enterprises in Poland and Russia were conducted. For that purpose a random sample of 100 enterprises, i.e. 50 enterprises in Poland and 50 enterprises in Russia was selected. The data were collected by the use of specially prepared questionnaires. Results and conclusions: EDI system is used in both Polish and Russian enterprises although the scope of application of this system varies and depends on the concept of its use by the management of enterprises. Polish enterprises is mainly focused on the optimization of inventory management, minimization of costs and productivity of the enterprise, while in the case of Russian enterprises, activities are aimed at improving relationships with partners, the quality of the company's operations and productivity.
Wstęp: Obecnie wykorzystywanych jest wiele narzędzi informatycznych w każdej dziedzinie. Dlatego kierownictwa przedsiębiorstw chcą, aby nowoczesne rozwiązania informatyczne obejmowały także zastosowania logistyczne w różnych i zróżnicowanych profilach działalności. Związane jest to także z minimalizacją kosztów działalności. System EDI umożliwia realizację takich celów. Z tego względu przeprowadzono badania w wybranych przedsiębiorstwach polskich i rosyjskich oraz przedstawiono wyniki wraz z wnioskami w zakresie stosowania systemu EDI. Metody: Przeprowadzono analizę porównawczą pomiędzy polskimi i rosyjskimi małymi przedsiębiorstwami. W celu wyselekcjonowano losowa próbę 100 przedsiębiorstw tj. 50 przedsiębiorstw polskich i 50 przedsiębiorstw rosyjskich. Dane do analizy zostały zebrane przy pomocy specjalnie przygotowanej ankiety. Wyniki i wnioski: System EDI jest używany zarówno w polskich jak i rosyjskich przedsiębiorstwach aczkolwiek zakres i cel używania jest różny i zależy od koncepcji zarządzania w firmie. Polskie przedsiębiorstwa skupiają się głównie na optymalizacji zarządzania zapasem, minimalizacją kosztów oraz produktywnością natomiast rosyjskie przedsiębiorstwa skupiają się głównie na poprawie relacji z partnerami oraz jakością operacji biznesowych i produktywnością.
