COMMON-SENSE LEGITIMATION OF INFORMAL PRACTICES IN PRESENT-DAY SERBIA

Opis:
As a part of a larger research within the Horizon 2020 project Closing the Gap Between Formal and Informal Institutions in the Balkans, 38 semi-structured interviews with citizens of Serbia have been conducted in the period  July – October 2017. These comprise the database used for analysis of “narratives of informality” – stories of how the research participants legitimize (or rationalize) informal practices (using connections and acquaintances to “get things done”, giving/receiving bribe, exchange of favors, etc.), supplemented by the analysis of participants’ attitudes towards informal practices, particularly when using them themselves. An insight into the respondents’ ideas of informality was gained through describing and understanding doxa – beliefs of an individual as “a quasi-perfect correspondence between the objective order and the subjective principles of organization (with which) the natural and social world appear as self-evident” (Bourdieu) or senso comune (Gramsci) – “naturalized”, unreflected, practical knowledge taking the form of self-explanatory content of common sense, that which is taken for granted, what “everybody knows“, the knowledge of the world that is undisputed – “just the way it is”, the domain of indefinite beliefs and incoherent views of the world, the knowledge which “legitimizes with the absence of legitimizing”. The assumption is that the “quality” of doxa, in the sense of its positive or negative orientation, has a large impact on the possibility of changes in formal practices and procedures – in some cases serving as a stimulus for change, and as an obstacle to changes in others – situations in which the new/imported rules remain “empty shells” with little influence in social life.

STYLISTIC CATEGORY
VALORISATION
Opis:
The authoress discusses the problem of the axiological marking of the determinants of informality, analyzed in the article as a stylistic category (simultaneously treating the style as an anthropological-cultural category). She is interested in positive valorization of colloquialism in the discourse that belongs to the so-called high culture, carried out from the point of view of an intellectual, a scientist and an artist. The evidence of positive valorization is found in the texts of contemporary humanities: philosophy, linguistics, anthropology of culture, theory of literature, literary criticism and contemporary literature and art. The found examples of valorization portray its varied shades, which are influenced by the context: philosophy looks for the sense of human existence in daily causal activities, literary criticism discovers the source of aesthetic contemplation in the everyday living, literature and art attempt to notice the signs of authenticity of our existence in the trivial pictures of ordinary nature and colloquial language. Besides, the scientific discourse positively evaluates the common-sense knowledge and the 'colloquial' attitude towards the world. In the texts of the present day humanities, such parameters of colloquialism as closeness, privacy, individuality, symmetrical ness of the interlocutors' status, advantage of co-operation over competition are also positively assessed. Axiologically positive marking of the determinants of colloquialism enables many of them to penetrate the scientific discourse, shaping the new forms of the expression of the subjectivity and forming the relationship with the reader.

Opis:
This article is a part of research project that focuses on citations in media coverage in Poland after 1989; two earlier installments of the article have been included in earlier publications of “Poznańskie Studia Polonistyczne”. Part Three provides a discussion on and characteristics of the category of the average man in the street, ordinary people whose utterances are increasingly included in the journalistic narration. Taking the notion of everyday life, with which the demand for an ordinary man in the media is closely linked, as a starting point in the discussion, the authors proceed to characterize citations, along with their explanatory attributions, indicate their textual functions and analyse the categories that are revealed within the process: anonymity, transparency and singularity.

Opis:
The current article contributes to the discussion on the trajectories of the economic integration of immigrants in adverse, informal contexts. Specifically, it explores the processes of the generation and application of business resources among Central Asian migrant entrepreneurs in Russia. This study highlights the crucial and multifaceted importance of former employment for migrant entrepreneurs. With restricted access to resources in Russia, Central Asian migrants deliberately used their workplaces to access business knowledge, networks and financial capital. By applying these resources, they replicated the successful business models of their former employers. This integration path appears to be shaped by the ambivalent forces of informality in the Russian economy.

Opis:
The basic premise of the paper is that the study of formal and informal processes has moved beyond the formality-informality debate. Forms which may be termed as hybrid formalities and hybrid informalities are more and more often encountered in the literature. However, these hybrid types are pretty much under construction, and they occur in a rather disparate manner. So that, there is need of a systematic approach which would conceptualize them within a broader typology. The paper advances such a typology of hybrid formalities and informalities. For the sake of conceptual unity, these are drafted in the same theoretical framework-the structuralist perspective on informal economy. Eventually, the systematization of this typology of hybrids leads to the formulation of some general findings about the manner in which sociologists relate to formality and informality in general.

Opis:
Official talk as a kind of institutional character interaction has not been a subject of detailed profound linguistic analyses so far. The article constitutes an attempt at describing an official conversation through conversation analysis which is aimed at focusing and interpretation of formal and informal elements. The presence of these elements in the official talks is conditional on the formal character of the conversation on the one hand, and on the other hand on its oral form. Formality and informality are treated as factors which shape the relation between interlocutors and as discourse control tools.

Opis:
There are many elements of colloquial speech in poetry of Jan Twardowski which belong to different subsystems of a language, such as: lexics and semantics, phraseology and syntax. A large amount of lexics includes words with antropocentric meaning which exist in every variant of language. But the major part of the lexics is colloquialisms with emotional meaning. The most often they have expressive and pragmatic function. Imitating oral language has also an impact on the structure of Jan Twardowski’s poetry. The poet uses colloquial elements for breaking language conventions and in this way he creates a new kind of metaphisical poetry. Using colloqiualisms apart from elements becoming from other variants of language causes an increase of semantic potention of this poetry. It also creates a new perspective that is not charateristic for the linguistically homogenious texts and enables this poetry to get to the larger amount of readers, including even these who don’t believe in God.
