Opis:
Item response theory (IRT) is widely used in educational and psychological research to model how participants respond to test items in isolation and in bundles. Item response theory has replaced classical measurement theory as a framework for test development, scale constructions, scree reporting and test evaluation. The most popular of the item response models for multiple choice tests are the one-parameter (i. e. the Rasch model) and threeparameter models. This is the general framework for specifying the functional relationship between a respondent’s underlying latent trait level, commonly known as ability in educational testing, or the factor score in the factor analysis tradition and an item level stimulus. In this paper, arguments are offered for continuing research and applying multidimensional IRT models. The position is also taken that multi-parameter IRT models have potentially important roles to play in the advancement of measurement theory about which models to use should depend on model fit to the test data. All calculations are conducted in R available from CRAN which is a widely-used and well-known environment for statistical computing and graphics.

Item response theory is considered to be one of the two trends in the methodological assessment of the reliability scale. Depending on the complexity of the adopted item parameterization, different types of IRT models for dichotomous items are defined. Most applications carried out in practice concern educational testing or psychological research and are based largely on the continuous assumption of the latent trait. The aim of this paper is to compare the estimation results of the discrete (formulated by the latent class approach) and continuous dichotomous IRT models in the analysis of Polish households’ saving skills as well as to assess Poles’ responses according to their ability to save money and the difficulty of the items (evaluation of the reliability of the item scale). All the computations and graphics in this paper are prepared using the MultiLCIRT and ltm packages of R.

Opis:
Item response theory (IRT) is a model-based theory in which the responses to test items depend on some person and item characteristics, according to specific probabilistic rela-tions. The simplest and most popular are dichotomous IRT models that specify a single (i.e. unidimensional) latent trait under the assumption of normal distribution. This article reviews the latent class ordinal polytomous item response models (LC-IRT) and presents the compari-son with the well-known traditional IRT models (based on the assumption of a normally dis-tributed latent trait). The main goal of the article is to compare the estimation results of differ-ent kinds of ordinal polytomous IRT models with continuous and discrete latent variable in measuring job satisfaction in Poland. We analyzed data collected as part of the International Social Survey Programme using the ltm and MultiLCIRT packages of R.

flow of information, ACTA, IRT, new media
Opis:
The idea of free flow of information, for which after II world war developed democratic countries fought on the United Nations and UNESCO forums, was primarily based on the American concept of freedom of the press and the belief that the source of human progress is unrestricted activity of individuals and free competition, uninhibited by state authorities intervention. Today, with the Internet we finally have free access to information and freedom of passing it on to others. However, frequently there are more cases of limiting access to certain information on the network, not only from authoritarian countries, but also democratic. Under the legal names of projects such as European Commissions’ ACTA or ITR (International Telecommunications Regulations) operated by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU – the specialized organization of United Nations) there are smuggled provisions that main goal is to better control the Internet, and thus the flow of information in the world. Citizens of many countries recognize this as a desire to limit their rights and freedoms, so they loudly oppose such regulations. There is a war for control over information. This war has already started decades ago and on its course not only politicians, big business and the media have an impact, but also to the fore come Internet users – citizens of free countries.

Przystosowanie człowieka do środowiska pracy wpływa na szereg zjawisk psychospołecznych, organizacyjnych i ekonomicznych. Trwają badania nad aplikacyjnością tej koncepcji oraz doskonaleniem metod badawczych. W niniejszym opracowaniu dokonano analizy cech warunkujących przystosowanie do środowiska pracy poprzez wykorzystanie metody, pozwalającej na konsolidację danych pochodzących z kilku kwestionariuszy. Dzięki zastosowaniu specjalnie zbudowanego wskaźnika cech ukrytych przy wykorzystaniu modelu GRM (Graded Response Model) porównano wyniki 419 badanych z ustalonym wzorcem optymalnego przystosowania do pracy. Stworzono ranking pracowników. Wskazano również możliwości aplikacyjne badania poprzez opis sposobu wdrożenia wyników w procesie tworzenia strategii ZZL w organizacji.
Work adjustment (WA) is a variable that influences a great variety of psychological, social, organizational, and economic parameters. Research on the applicability of this concept as well as the improvement of the methodology is ongoing. This paper undertakes analyses of qualities prerequisite to work adjustment using a method allowing the consolidation of data derived from several questionnaires. Thanks to the application of a specially formulated latent trait index, based on the Graded Response Model (GRM), a comparison of results from 419 respondents with the optimal WA pattern was made. An employee ranking was established. Also indicated was the potential for implementing these results in developing a HRM strategy in an organization.

Fuzzy TOPSIS method enables linear ordering of objects characterized by linguistic variables, which values constitute expressions emerging from natural language. Crucial, however, often neglected phase of this method is a selection of the way of introducing linguistic expressions by fuzzy numbers. Therefore, in this article one suggested a modification of fuzzy TOPSIS method using Rating Scale Model (RSM) to establish triangular fuzzy numbers. A suggested method enables establishing the rank of objects on the basis of objective criteria and subjective weights expressed in the form of triangular fuzzy numbers. Usability of the suggested method was confirmed by an empirical example, concerning linear ordering of selected smartphones models.

Opis:
Conjoint measurement and analysis have a common underlying psychometric and statistical assumption concerning axioms of additivity and two-way frame of reference in preference measurement. However, whereas the former concept is widely used in the fundamental measurement of subject × object dominance structures as in IRT and Rasch measurement models, the latter is utilized in a broad family of object × object dominance structures in both compositional (i.e. Thurstone case III and V) as well as decompositional (classical conjoint experiments and BTL/alpha simulation) preference measurement models. These two traditions are rarely combined in one measurement model and research design that integrates subject × object × object measurement [Neubauer 2003]. The aim of the paper is to adopt and compare three types of preference measurement models in the area of banking products in Poland: 1. paired-comparisons and rating scale conjoint experiment, 2. IRT-based conjoint (Rasch and Birnbaum politomous models), 3. compositional Thurstone III/V models [Bockenholt 2006]. Part-worth utilities are used for product optimization and comparison across the estimated models.

Opis:
Item Response Theory (IRT) is an extension of the Classical Test Theory (CCT) and focuses on how specific test items function in assessing a construct. They are widely known in psychology, medicine, and marketing, as well as in social sciences. An item response model specifies a relationship between the observable examinee test performance and the unobservable traits or abilities assumed to underlie performance on the test. Within the broad framework of item response theory, many models can be operationalized because of the large number of choices available for the mathematical form of the item characteristic curves. In this paper we introduce several types of IRT models such as: the Rasch, and the Birnbaum model. We present the main assumptions for IRT analysis, estimation method, properties, and model selection methods. In this paper we present the application of IRT analysis for binary data with the use of the ltm package in R.

The sample comprised 16,426 working Norwegians (Mage = 37.31; SD = 11.36) who filled out the Bergen Work Addiction Scale (BWAS). The results showed that the difficulty/third threshold parameters corresponding to the threshold used to classify symptoms as present were lower than 1.5 for the items corresponding to tolerance and conflict and higher than or equal to 1.5 for the items corresponding to salience, mood modification, relapse, withdrawal, and problems. The cut-off point used to identify individuals as potentially addicted to work identified 411 individuals (31.9% of all individuals classified by the polythetic approach as potentially addicted to work) whose estimates of the latent trait level were lower than 1.5 as potentially addicted to work. The problem of class overlap (being classified by the polythetic approach into different class despite almost the same level of the latent trait) affected 4,686 individuals (28.5% of the whole sample). The dichotomization of polytomous items had a substantial effect on the estimates of the latent trait level. The findings show that the polythetic approach is not efficient in identifying potentially addicted to work individuals and that the prevalence rates of work addiction based on the polythetic approach are not trustworthy.

Ukraine is characterised by active natural hazards processes within different structural, tectonic and landscape zones. In Middle Dnieper basin region mass movement processes have great impact on people’s livelihoods and infrastructure. These processes occur on the slopes with different geological structure. The determining causes include lithologic and stratigraphic conditions, hydrogeological regime, structural and textural peculiarities of rocks and the geomorphology of the slopes. Landslide inventory database has been developed based on long-term observations of more than 400 landslides and landslide-prone areas. This paper takes efforts forward by combining different geological and geophysical methods to advance the current understanding of landslide phenomena and contributing towards a better informed assessment of landslide hazard and risk. The developed methodology is implemented in a test sites of Kyiv region, covering an area of 18.3 km2 situated in the Middle Dnieper basin. Electrical Resistivity Tomography, Self-Potential and Infrared Thermography techniques were employed to investigate the lithostratigraphic sequences, the geometry of landslide body and potential mass movement. The results presented here confirm the potential of using an integrated approach that combines different field data to better plan mitigation activities and measures for the effective land management. This study will be useful in increasing the safety aspects of the infrastructures and lives and also for planning of research and developmental activities.

Opis:
Item response theory is considered to be one of the two trends in methodological assessment of the reliability scale. In turn, latent class models can be viewed as a special case of model-based clustering, for heterogeneous multivariate discrete data. The combination of the two mentioned latent variable models concerns the assumption that the population under study is composed by homogeneous classes of individuals with very similar latent trait levels. In this approach, the model selection is based on the ordered steps consisting of selecting specific features, such as the number of latent dimensions, the number of latent classes, and the constraints on the item parameters. The main goal of the paper is to find groups of Poles not currently working for pay with similar workplace flexibility levels and to analyse the (selected) item characteristics of the International Social Survey Programme questionnaire, as well using the discretized variant of polytomous IRT models, formulated by a latent class approach.
W pracy przedstawiono zastosowanie podejścia modelowego w taksonomii wykorzystującego teorię IRT w badaniu umiejętności dostosowania się do zmian polskich respondentów poszukujących pracy. Badania przeprowadzone zostały z wykorzystaniem pakietu MultiLCIRT programu R dla danych pochodzących z Międzynarodowego Programu Sondaży Społecznych ISSP 2015.
