    Opis:
    From a historical and sociological perspective, based on the social theory of recognition of Axel Honneth, this article analyzes the life course of the Italian Jewish Holocaust survivor Liliana Segre, born in 1930 in Milan, and her struggle for social recognition after her liberation from the concentration camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Ravensbrück, Jugendlager and Malchow. The article will underline on one side, the “spiral of misrecognition” that Liliana Segre, as all Italian Jews, has been victim of after the approval of the Fascist racial laws of 1938 and the negative consequences for her identity, such as social shame, loss of self-confidence, self-respect and self-esteem. On the other side, the article focus on the “upward spiral of recognition”, that Liliana Segre was able to realize after her return from the concentration camp. Through marriage, maternity, paid work in the labor market and civil engagement as Shoah witness, she was able to regain social self-esteem and dignity for herself and, for the Jewish people.

    Artykuł poświęcony został problematyce tożsamości bohaterki opowiadań Jadwigi Maurer (1932-2012). Jest nią żydowska dziewczyna ocalała z zagłady, która po wojnie emigruje do Niemiec, do Monachium. Szczegółowa analiza kolejnych tekstów układających się w swoiste cykle ujawnia, że na płaszczyźnie tożsamościowej warunkiem i jednocześnie skutkiem ocalenia od śmierci było źródłowe doświadczenie wygnania. Doświadczenie to po wojnie stało się dla bohaterki prozy Maurer swoistą matrycą poznawczą porządkującą jej ogląd rzeczywistości, a także wyznaczającą aksjologiczne ramy egzystencjalnych wyborów.   
    The article is devoted to the problem of the identity of the main character of Jadwiga Maurer’s stories. She is a Jewish girl survivor of the Holocaust who emigrates to Munich, Germany, after the war. Detailed analyses of Maurer’s short stories, arranged in a kind of cycles, reveal that at the identity level, Holocaust rescue was linked to the source experience of exile. The experience of exile after the war became for the main character of Maurer’s prose a kind of cognitive matrix organizing her experience of reality, as well as setting the axiological framework of existential choices.

    Opis:
    The purpose of this paper is to examine the way in which the experience of the Holocaust can be represented, embodied and even relived in or through music. The category of experience thus serves as a main methodological tool in this survey, helping to reconstitute the proces of expressing it through music, specifically in Arnold Schoenberg’s A Survivor from Warsaw Op. 46. A related point to consider is the composer’s engagement in the fight for human rights just before the World War II, a fact that is not yet widely recognized. A brief overview of Schoenberg’s religious, social, and political environment is followed by the history of the Survivor’s… origins, analysis of its literary text, and, finally, interpretation. While discussing the ethical limits of the Holocaust representation, the opinions of Theodor W. Adorno, Ernst van Alphen, Berel Lang, and Giorgio Agamben are consulted.
