    This article presents figure of American scholar Martha Bohachevsky-Chomiak who was born in Ukraine. As a child she emigrated to USA with her parents. She graduated from American university and started work on history of Ukrainian female movement in 19th and 20th century. Her ground breaking work Feminists Despite Themselves: Women in Ukrainian Community Life 1848-1939 was a beginning of her career in Ukraine. Her West perspective brought new light to the Ukrainian science and opened it for the new possibilities.
    Феміністична критика - американсько-український варіант: Досвід Марти Богачевської-Хом'якВ статті подано сильветку американської вченої українського походження Марти Богачевської-Хомяк, яка в дитинстві емігрувала з батьками до США, де отримала освіту і почала свою наукову діяльність. М. Богачевська-Хомяк досліджувала історію українських жіночих організацій кінця XIX - початку XX століття. її знакова праця Feminists Despite Themselves: Women in Ukrainian Community Life 1848-1939 перекладена в Україні Білим по білому. Жінка в гормадському житті України 1884-1939 (1995). Західна перспектива дослідниці внесла в українську науку новий погляд і відкрили для неї нові хоризонти. Книжка М, Богачевської-Хомяк і її діяльність в Україні (кілька років була гостивним професором Києво-Могилянської Академії стали інспірацією до розвитку тендерних студії.

    El artículo trata sobre los discursos en la prensa panameña acerca de la condición femenina, el feminismo y el sufragismo entre 1911 y 1922. Dicho período de tiempo precedió al nacimien-to de las primeras organizaciones feministas en Panamá en 1923: el Partido Nacional Feminis-ta y la Sociedad Nacional para el Progreso de la Mujer. Característica del feminismo paname-ño fue su temprana organización, coincidiendo casi con la creación del Estado nacional y con la construcción del Canal interoceánico, así como la influencia que en él tuvo tanto los ecos del movimiento feminista internacional, como de los movimientos obreros y las revoluciones que se desarrollaban en Europa y en América. En los años referidos se oyeron las primeras voces que reclamaban un nuevo papel para la mujer en la sociedad, así como las de quienes se oponían a los cambios. Este trabajo estudia las opiniones y argumentos a favor de las reivindicaciones feministas y los contrarios a ellas, y reseña la presencia de autoras españolas y latinoamericanas en las publicaciones panameñas. En él se examinan especialmente los escritos de mujeres que contribuyeron de manera funda-mental a la redefinición de la femineidad y la construcción de un nuevo modelo de mujer.

    After World War II, sexology developed in Poland as a holistic discipline embracing achievements in medicine, psychology, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, history, and religious studies. Sexuality was perceived as multidimensional and embedded in relationships, culture, the economy, and society at large. This approach was fundamentally different than the biomedical model, which started to develop rapidly in the United States after Masters and Johnson’s Human Sexual Response. The author discusses the impact of the two different models of sexology on the understanding of gender, while also considering the influence of economic and political factors (capitalism and socialism) on the development of scientific knowledge

    This piece of work is an attempt, grounded in artistic practice, to describe several key aspects of the mechanisms of hierarchy, power and violence in Polish theatre taking into account the perspective of a woman director. These mechanisms are currently the subject of theoretical studies and discussions within the community. In this paper I would like to propose a look “from the inside.” There is a historical and theoretical part followed by an attempt to analyse the mechanisms of power-sharing in theatre based on a discussion on competitions for the position of theatre manager, taking into consideration the criteria that discriminated against women for years, and the unspoken assumptions. This is followed by a self-reflection on the evolution of the author’s own working methods as a director with almost twenty years of artistic experience, and finally a description of the hierarchical relationships between an actress, a director and a manager, and of the political mechanisms involved. The second part of the paper is empirical in nature and is based primarily on the author’s experience of working at the Teatr Polski in Warsaw as well as her active participation in professional and public debate. It also describes the tension between the possibility of individual professional success and the permanence of anachronistic and violent systemic mechanisms of functioning of the institution of theatre.

    W artykule omówiono zmiany stosunku wobec żeńskich nazw tytułów i zawodów od początku XX w. do czasów współczesnych, uwzględniając zarówno praktykę (uzus), jak i refleksję metajęzykową. Ocenę oraz zakres stosowania feminatywów ukazano na tle zmieniającej się sytuacji społecznej i zawodowej kobiet oraz w powiązaniu z ideologiami motywującymi te zmiany. Takie ujęcie problemu pozwoliło zaobserwować charakterystyczne tendencje: wyrazem emancypacji kobiet była maskulinizacja języka ich dotyczącego, co stało się tendencją dominującą zwłaszcza po 1945 r.; feminizm (w Polsce aktywny dopiero od lat 90. XX w.) wystąpił z hasłami przeciwstawienia formacjom męskim derywatów żeńskich, zaś genderowa idea nieokreślania płci znalazła wyraz w obyczaju określanym jako splitting.
    The article investigates the changes in the attitude towards female names of professional titles and jobs since the beginning of 20th century until now, with particular regard to both practice (usus) and metalinguistic reflection. The evaluation and range of use of female names was presented against the altering social and professional situation of women and in relation to the ideologies behind these changes. Such approach enabled the observation of characteristic tendencies: the effect of the emancipation of women was the masculinization of the language referring to females, which became a dominating tendency especially after 1945; feminism (inactive in Poland until 90’s) claimed the opposition to masculine formations of female derivatives, and gender idea of unspecified sex was expressed in the custom of so-called “splitting”.

    Opis:
    The article concerns the relationships between terms, frequent in Polish literary criticism, such as “women’s literature”, “women’s press”, “women’s writing”, “literature written by women” and ”Feminist literature”. The author discusses three research books that have been published recently in which slightly different categories have been applied and which, at the same time, focus on the female element of cultural texts. In addition, the author points at multiple tendencies, frequently dissimilar and distinct, in the approach to the relationship between gender and the text. At the same time the author emphasizes a certain disposition manifested by researchers to employ the gender category to judge literary works. Hence, it seems to be quite justified to reopen the Jy women to show them in a new light. The same applies to the surrounding discussions on relevant titles — just as it is the case with publications by Joanna Krajewska, Jerzy Strzelczyk and Kamilla Łozowska-Marcinkowska.
